I believe this is one o the first, if not the original diner as evidenced by the interior. Chrome steel, booths, the works. I had a skillet breakfast, (meats) which came with cheese topped crispy hash browns, eggs and toast. It was surprisingly good and not your greasy spoon type. Keep driving. It is not what you remember nor what it once was. The exterior is cute. The staff is decent but the taste is way not good anymore and the portions are way off small compared to what it used to be. Salt balance was off. Things are about half the size and double the price. Stopped here on the way home from Medora. They have other locations and this place had an ad in ND travel book. Asked about the special soup and it's chicken brothbased with dumplings and potatoes. I ordered it with a Rueben sandwich. Both were really good. I ordered a vanilla shake but supposedly it takes awhile to make and it arrived after I was done eating. Maybe invest in another shake/malt maker or have 2 people make them. Spouse liked ham omelette but biscuits and gravy were hard. Suspect frozen and microwaved. I inquired about burgers and they are frozen. Such a missed opportunity and better profit margins to get fresh. Busy inside, great service. read more

It"s a diner and my expectations were in line with that reality. Thankfully they were exceeded. Service was quick and the food was very tasty. I ordered scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, bacon and toast. I have been coming to Krolls for a long time but it took a visit home for Christmas for me to write a review. The knoephla here is the best around. Some will disagree, everyone has their favorite spot, but my favorite is the lumpy yellow soup from Krolls. The sandwiches are always good and come with chips if you opt for the soup. We also had kuchen, one slice of raspberry and one of Carmel apple, which was very tasty! Kuchen being a sort of custard pie for those who don't know. If you are in the area, stop in for some local favorites! read more

Horrible Customer Service. Server was too busy talk to friends to offer coffee refills. When my meal arrived it was burnt. I was not given an opportunity to ask for it to be replaced, or order a different item. Wasn't given a bill and when I asked for the item to be removed, she apparently doesn't have the authority. I hope the owners/management staff knows that without customers, there's no business, without a business there's no job, without a job there's no paycheck and no raises. This review is for BOTH this Kroll's and the original just west of downtown Bismarck - we ate at both during our trip to Bismarck. Visiting all 50 states is on my husband's bucket list, so we took a 10-day road trip through Montana and the Dakotas, including a 2-night stop in Bismarck. We'd seen Kroll's Diner on TV (I think it was on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives but I'm not positive) so we decided to stop by the original on Main St. east of downtown Bismarck for a late lunch after the drive in from Billings. The restaurant is old and run down and the surrounding area is Bismarck's "ghetto," but the food was good. I ordered the Cajun patty melt minus the pepper jack cheese and the seasonings were excellent and the sandwich constructed perfectly. My husband ordered the house specialty "fleischkuechle," a hamburger patty with a fried pastry wrapped around it, with sauerkraut. The patty was bland and the pastry was on the greasy side, but it's a unique dish and I'd order it again. On our next day in Bismarck we again stopped off at Kroll's (this time the one in Mandan) for a late lunch after spending the morning at Ft Abraham Lincoln. This Kroll's is in a dining car and the building is in much better condition than the one on Main St in Bismarck. I ordered the fried chicken, which was fried dark golden brown and crispy the way I like it, and my husband ordered chicken fried steak. The meat was tough and rubbery but the gravy was tasty. We both ordered the "knopfle" dumpling soup as a starter - delicious! It tasted good on a 65 degree day and would taste even better on a -20 degree day. Diners are all the rage now, and if Kroll's were in L.A. it would be full of hipsters with lip and eyebrow piercings, Taliban beards and tattoos everywhere. But in Bismarck both locations were full of everyday locals from all walks of society enjoying good food at a reasonable price. read more

With Krolls you have about 4 choices where to eat. Eat here, this one has the old fashioned outside train look. Food is good prices are very good. I usually came and had a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie with ice cream. Price of pie 2.75! Enjoy good diner food in bismarck nd. Best pie I could find during the 3 years I lived in Bismarck, ND. I was surfing in the internet when i accidentally saw the website of Kroll's Diner. I was amazed with their menu and promos. So i decided to try it. I never get disappointed. Several issues with this place. First, the server didn't get our order right. My girlfriend ordered a side salad with ranch dressing with her dinner, the waitress just brought her a side of ranch dressing. Her dinner came with mashed potatoes and they were cold. Mine came with fries and a dinner roll. The fries were cold and I didn't get any butter for the roll. All in all, a disappointing experience. read more

This cute diner is adorned with nostalgia from entertainers and celebrities. There are replicas of gold records recorded by Elvis. The root beer floats were great but only 3 of us got to drink ours from a glass mug. My husband had to drink his out of the metal canister they use at the soda fountain for making malts! Very odd that they ran out of mugs. We ordered the German meal- fried potatoes, sauerkraut and sausage. Also had doughy klepna. Everything was stirred together, potatoes needed seasoning, sauerkraut was not flavorful and the sausage was all sliced up like a hot dog. I have had good service before with no complaints. But! Last time might be the last. I called a togo order in before I left work, 5 cheese burgers and a bucket of soup. I walked in paid for it.... And had a seat for 45 mins. The high school student forgot to give the cook my order. Which would of been okay IF! someone would of said sorry, but instead she made sure she had her food which she ate in the back where I could see her. My daughter was employed at krolls in Mandan nd. She ended up in the hospital last week. If not treated she could have died! She was told by the dr she was in able to work until she was cleared by a physician. He wrote her a dr note stating this. She was cleared to go back today and was told they filled her position. When she spoke with management he stated " what would you like us to do? Close down until you were cleared! We needed someone who could show up. She missed less than a week and she had an iv in her arm? How does one cook with an iv in their arm? How does your company have no compassion for someone who is ill? I will never eat there again. And I will share this story everywhere! read more
