I'm surprised that Kroger has all the negative reviews. I have been going there for years on and off. The store is conveniently located on Midlothian Turnpike between 288 and Charter Colony Road. It has a large parking lot and offers gas as well. Since we live in Powhatan, we generally visit Food Lion since there are two and are in very close proximity. Kroger is always on the way for us when we are going into "town". I feel that after the remodel (year or two ago) Kroger has stepped up their game. I'm sure they had to considering the competition coming in from all around. Kroger has always been a step up from Food Lion but now has a wine bar, extensive deli, and prepared food section. I got a slice of chicken pesto, sun-dried tomatoe pizza and really enjoyed it. Pizza was way thick for my liking but the combination of toppings were refreshing and tasty. I was also impressed with their seafood and meat section. Yesterday, I planned on preparing a crab boil dinner for the wife and I and found that finding crab legs wasn't that easy. After visiting three other markets I was feeling discouraged. Luckily, Kroger had them ($11.99 lb) and some a scrumtious looking shrimp ($7.99 lbs). I picked four leg clusters and a pound of shrimp (21-25 count). The crab boil was awesome, wife loved it but I couldn't have done it without Kroger. Thanks. Kroger also has the best flower section in the area. They usually receive fresh deliveries on Mondays and Thursdays if I refer correctly. One thing I would change if I could, was to keep a register in the bistro area open if are selling food. Even if it's just self-checkout. I had to walk from one end of the store to pay for my pizza and the walk back to sit down.. read more

When I asked about it, the seafood department told me that they are not real crab cakes, but are imitation krab, instead. There is no actual crab in them whatsoever. Midday on Monday and this Krogers had one...only one...checkout line open. I started toward checking out as #8 in line. Customers near me voiced their dissatisfaction with Krogers' service. I saw a number of customers giving up, leaving the line. I'll think twice before returning to Krogers due to the store's lack of adequate customer service. Today is my first day here and I loved it. This is one of those Super Krogers that I think is meant to compete with Wegmans. They have a bar area, a Starbucks, and nothing was out of stock. My family usually shops at a smaller Kroger for the comfort aspect, but lately they've been slacking on expired products. Glad to see that's not an issue here! Will definitely keep coming! read more

Went to bakery department to pick up something I had ordered. 2 employees at bakery. One seemed to be instructing the other. They both ignored me. (Also there were 3 men standing nearby who seemed to be managers and they did not offer to help or suggest one of the others help me.) after awhile I just picked up something from the shelf. (We have had similar experiences at the Kroger bakery twice before. It's stressful to require their help at the bakery.) (is it the same bad employee or do they have a bunch of bad bakery employees?) Generally, I consider Kroger to be the best the area has to offer in terms of mainstream grocery shopping. The stores are a bit larger, have a better selection, and offer a larger produce section. They are also generally newer than the rest of the motley lot. This store is not different and even has a small hot foods area that ventures into the world of Chinese cuisine. While this is a plus, it is also a huge negative when everything looks like it has been sitting there for hours, leaving the bread pudding looking similar on top to old mashed potatoes and lasagna taking on a dull orange tint over the top. In fact, most of the entries on the hot stand had some form of unusual discoloration or deformity. Kind of sad, given the promise the might otherwise presents. The other positive difference of Kroger is that they have a larger international section than any of the other traditional chains. Their prices in that section are generally good in comparison to their competitors. Overall, they remain the king of the hill when compared to Food Lion and Martins, yet leaves a lot to be desired in comparison to chains found in other parts of the country. read more

Although previous visits have been pleasant the extremely low level of customer service received on June 10, 2021 at the Midlothian store was less than desirable and personally offensive. While shopping I decided to pick up a couple of steaks and began my search with the pre-packaged meats available in the refrigerator case across from the meat department counter. Seeing nothing I wanted I waited as the person at the meat counter served another customer. During this time, he was very attentive and appeared pleasant as he interacted with the customer. Unfortunately, as I approached the counter the demeanor of person at the meat counter changed dramatically. Instead of asking if I needed assistance, he simply glanced in my direction, walked to the farthest end of the counter and began rearranging merchandise. At one point he disappeared in the back and returned empty handed but continued rearranging items at the far end of the counter. Not once did he acknowledge my presence at the counter or offer assistance. It was not until I eventually asked for assistance that he acknowledge my presence with a sneer and asked very flatly if I needed something. I decided not to purchase steaks because your employee gave the impression he'd rather be doing something other than assisting me with my order. I have no ideal why the Kroger employee responded to me the way he did. It would be easy to make his change in disposition about race because the only difference between me and the previous customer is that he was white and I am black. Despite my suspicions, I want to provide feedback about my experience, because regardless of the reason, all customers should be treated the same regardless of an employee's personal biases, workload or even if they are just having a bad day. As a retired veteran and now veteran's education counselor I have never been inclined to pick and choose with whom I will be professional. Nor should Kroger employees. Oftentimes I am asked by friends, family and colleagues the location of a good place to buy groceries and other items. In the future it will not be the Midlothian Kroger store. Today it only cost Kroger a couple of steaks. Tomorrow who knows. read more

I've never felt strongly enough about a grocery store to write a review but the time has come. Whenever I come to this Kroger I leave in a horrible mood. This morning I went in and asked a woman wearing a Kroger tag and vest a question about where to find an item. Well stupid me! She scolded me because she's "shopping" and I should ask the lady behind the bakery. They also have the tendency of opening just one check out lane on Saturday mornings which is also another great way to start the day, waiting for ten carts of groceries before your turn. I'd rather go literally anywhere else for groceries. I know Kroger isn't Wegmans but I'd expect it to be a notch above Walmart. read more

This is the closest Kroger to me. I love Kroger overall, the prices are good, I can always find great deals and I love the digital coupons. I absolutely love how they send coupons for free items every month and then of course the free Friday coupon. Now onto this location. While they recently remodeled the store, the layout is horrible and quite honestly I'm not sure of the rationale behind it. The bakery items stand between the beer and the meat section. And then on the other side of the beer is household goods. Essentially the meat is away from the rest of the food. The worst thing about this store though is the produce section. It does not matter what day or time it is, the produce section is either sold out of the sale items or the restocking is not being done routinely. I have had to dig for bananas in the boxes below the shelves because the banana shelf is completely empty. Berries, grapes and melons are so low all the time you are lucky to ever get them. If you have the patience to deal with a smaller store or a drive down midlothian turnpike then I suggest the one on polo parkway or all the way down near the 150 entrance. read more

I have been a customer here for ten years and I have watched the steady decline in customer service. Recently I have made several attempts to speak to the store manager with no success. He has never returned calls and when I contacted corporate offices, little was done to resolve my problem. The employees at this location seem to have similarly poor attitudes. They do not speak to customers and if you ask for assistance, employees make it obvious that you are wasting their time. This location has some very good food selections that I will continue to stop in and pick up, but the majority of my grocery shopping will be done elsewhere. read more

It shows unprotected/available, one choses it, and then the 'splash page' asks for username and password. Other Kroger wifis show unprotected/available, one choses it, and a 'lawyer' page gets a 'I agree' click, and the customer is online. And yes, I've talked to service desk, managers, and the regional students coming through to classes - all to be blown off. IF IT WAS ME... The Ivymont Midlothian store has slowly gone down hill to the point I just avoid it now. Dirty store , dirty parking lot with over flowing garbage cans with no tops. You have to check dates on all meats, everything is shipped prepackaged. They dont even grind their own chop meat anymore. Chicken all comes in frozen and is thawed at the store. Lucky if you can find an expiration date more than 1 day. Have to check your receipt for being over charged on many items. Only 1 or 2 checkout lanes ever open so be prepared to wait in long lines at checkout as they continue to try and retrain customers to use self checkout for large orders...and forget about someone bagging your groceries....their is a serious attitude/ culture problem at this location nobody says hello or good morning . Very disappointed to see that during this time of great concern for our health and wellbeing, that this store is home for a free-for-all. Customers are wandering through with complete disregard for any kind of social distancing. The only evidence of the store taking a proactive approach are the floor spacing suggestions at checkout. Very few employees are wearing masks. The shopping staff has no regard for other customers, planting their carts in front of food cases while wandering around aimlessly. Like other stores, items are in limited supply, but frozen vegetables are virtually unavailable here. Get your act together Kroger. I won't be back until I hear that you've set up one-way aisles, 6' spacing marks on the floor, and enforce the wearing of masks for employees and customers. read more

While there with 3 of my kids, the cashier and I were talking (she was sloooowly ringing me up). She told them they could have stickers only IF they behaved and gave each one one (my 2 year old LOVES her Kroger stickers and asked politely for 2 and was refused.) I happened to mention my 2 other children. She stopped mid check-out and looked at me and exclaimed, "WHAT were you THINKING?" I was taken aback. This was rude and unnecessary. I also had to bag myself while she stood there and watched. I wrote corporate who said they forwarded my complaint. Copy/paste apologies do nothing. No manager has contacted me about this. I KNOW Kroger employees are taught better than this cashier was and am sorely disappointed in Krogers LACK of customer service skills as of the past few months. This had to be one of the cleanest grocery stores I've ever stepped foot in. The people that work here are soooo nice...so nice that it seems that they may all be on some kind on happy medicine... hahaha, just kidding (not really). Anyway, the produce department is amazing. They have items that we don't normally see in the New Orleans markets. They always have a ton of cashiers working quickly and efficiently checking people out at record speeds. They also ALWAYS have one bagger per cashier, which to me is amazing in itself. Also, their "ethnic food isle" is huge. They carry things I didn't even knew existed. The place is huge, they have everything you could ever want and more, they have self-checkout lines for people with only a few items and it's in the middle of Midlothian for super easy access no matter where you're driving from. The Kroger on Midlothian is so frustrating, having many empty spaces on their shelves. I shop different days and different times and there are always items on my list I cannot buy. Ever since they jumbo sized the store it has gone down hill. Many times there are just a couple of registers open, always self serve but when I'm buying hundreds of dollars of food that doesn't work. And then of course the baggers, or lack of baggers. I'm just not bagging $300 worth of groceries myself! The cashiers are always wanting the customers to fill out the survey, I guess so they can get recognition. Well, I won't be filling out another one because why waste my time. The last one I filled out I asked for a response and after 9 days I called the corporate customer service and was told not to expect a response because they don't do that. The response was they gather the information and give the customer 50 fuel points. My response was that's not even 10 off a gallon so I won't be filling out a survey again. I will say several of the employees I deal with at this Kroger are the only reason I still shop here. As soon as Publix, I know they are a bit more expensive, opens on Charter Colony Parkway I'll be shopping there. When I do shop at some of the other Publix, I come home happy, unlike when I come home from Kroger. read more

I've been shopping for my big shops and pick up items at this Kroger for over a year. It used to be awesome. There were employees who were helpful and friendly, bangers who bagged with common sense and uncluttered aisles. Within the past 2-3 months, I've had several bad experiences and think I'm pretty much done coming here. With Aldi, Lidl, Publix and more in the area I'm sure someone else can offer better service than this Kroger does. I'm giving 3 stars for their quality of food. I love their store brands and their bakery items are amazing. I've never had any problems with any product I've purchased from here. Alway fresh and delicious. However, here's the bad: -Had a cashier actually tell me she was having a horrible day. Then she said "I can't wait to leave this damn place". Had my kid with me and lady behind me had hers too. Uh....okay. I can't wait for you to leave either with that attitude. Most of the cashiers are just miserable. They barely speak except to ask for your Kroger card. -Baggers could care less. 2 months ago I had one completely forget to put 2 packs of chicken in my cart. The manager replaced them, but I still had to go out of my way to go back to the store. Then I had one put canned beans in with my grapes. One bag of grapes with 4 cans of beans. My grapes did not fare well. This past trip (yesterday) I had raw ground beef in with my yogurt. Then I had raw pork chops in with my deli roast beef. My bottle of dish soap? In with my tomatoes and spinach of course. I had 3 five pound bags of sugar in one bag with no double bagging. 10 cans of canned goods in another bag not double bagged. Ice cream was in with boxes of pasta. This is just not good bagging. It is also just poor common sense. -Their new online ordering system is probably great. I haven't tried it. But I do know that when they are filling orders, they block aisles. They could care less that other shoppers are there needing to get their items. They have large carts and park it while they get everything they need off of that aisle. I've looked one associate right in the eye and said excuse me and then had to move their cart myself. -In April I went in for my son's birthday cake that I had ordered. I stood at the bakery counter for almost 5 minutes waiting while 3 associates were talking about their schedule. Another lady finally walked up and asked if I was being helped and then got my cake for me. Usually the bakery employees are very nice, so I don't know what was going on that day. -Produce department is overpriced and usually full of fruit flies or whatever. Nasty. So basically, while they have yummy food, so does the new Publix. I'll just be shopping someplace else from now on. read more

The roof at this Kroger location leaks in at least 20 places whenever it rains. If it's raining outside, you can expect a bucket catching drops and "Wet Floor" signs on every aisle. Last night I had to buy a bag of wet Doritos because they were all wet - rain was leaking right on all the chips. I also got hit on the head with raindrops while standing at the salad bar. I can't believe the stupidity of the management at this location. It appeared they ran out of buckets and wet floor signs, on the frozen food aisle, there was a large puddle taking up the entire width of the aisle surrounded with 2L Coke bottles! This is not new and happens every time it rains. How come a roofing contractor is not on-site fixing the roof? I own my own business and I could not imagine being ok with rain leaking on my customers and employees. read more

This store used to be a pleasure to shop before the expansion, but not now. I don't know who designed the layout of the aisles, but he or she should be fired - there is no logic to the staggered set up instead of one straight aisle. Many products I used to buy are no longer stocked, shelves are often not stocked. Although this store is closer to my home, I will drive 2-3 miles further to shop at the Rittenhouse Kroger or the new Publix. Publix is wonderful, sensible layout and has all the products I buy.
