I will not shop at the store on Mall Dr. bc of POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. AT least 5x now, while I've been waiting in line, another clerk has opened a new line, but allows the customers who have just walked up to be serviced first. The other day 4 others were checked out while I had been waiting in line before any of them! I got stuck behind a woman doing a return without a receipt! But to add insult to injury, the cashier was RUDE! I have been using their self checkout, but I always have issues with something not working right....maybe me....bc all of these machines are different from store to store. This is mainly about my checkout experience-they have no staff checking people out only self checkout, which is obnoxious if you are doing a whole grocery trip and have a million things to scan, it takes me twice as long as it would an employee to ring everything up, they didn't have paper bags (plastic bags are not flat on the bottom and not preferred for me) not to mention the scale to the right of the register you have to put scanned items on is too small so now i'm piling and crushing my groceries. for the higher prices they charge than aldi you'd think they would at least have a helpful and hospitable checkout system. i will not be coming back to this lidl read more

I really wanted to love Lidl as I previously lived in Europe and shopped at Lidl and Aldi quite often. However, this location was really disappointing. Lidl's stock varies, but I can usually count on them to have the basics on my list like fresh produce, milk, eggs, and bread. However, the produce at this location was really hit or miss. There were boxes of rotting zucchini on the sales floor and a lot of the fruit wasn't ripe. Typically, I only shop here for the basics, but with the quality so variable, I think I'll just start visiting Kroger where I can count on being able to get everything I need in one place. I also wasn't really impressed with their staff. The cashier kept cracking jokes about my neutral facial expression and how "someone looks like they're in a bad mood," which I thought was inappropriate and made me uncomfortable. I was buying almond milk at Lidl, not attending a comedy show. I wasn't aware that it is a requirement to have a mega-watt grin plastered on my face to make a purchase at Lidl. Skip Lidl and visit the nearby Kroger, Aldi, or Costco instead. You'll have a larger selection of items, fresher produce, and a more pleasant staff interaction. read more

I love Lidl. First of all if you haven't tried an apple turnover from the bakery, do it now. Especially if they're hot. Its definitely my weakness! Luckily I don't venture here often enough to eat them daily cause I would! Lidl has a great produce selection with organic and normal options. Beware if you're looking at the prices, the price is usually listed ABOVE the item not below as it normal at stores. I also think they have great specials on chicken, beef and fish. This is a convenient Lidl located right across Costco. Prices are decent, but poor customer service. I once came to this location and noticed only one cashier is open with a number of customers in line, so I used the self checkout. There was a tall white skinny,black curly hair employee watching the self checkout out. As I was scanning the items I bought, one of it was not registering, so I put it back in the cart instead on the scale., From a distance, the white skinny Lidl employee with a loud voice said, "you have to put the item on the scale after you scan it". I told him that the scanner wasn't scanning the bar code, then he came and scanned it. I then placed a bag of loose peaches on the scanner and chose peaches off the produce choices, then the same Lidl employee came to me and said that I did not scan the right item. He said that, there's a sticker barcode on the fruit, and took the item from me and entered the numbers that was on the sticker which I didn't noticed. I then said, okay and thank you. I didn't mind him showing me or helping me scan my items. What bothered me is the way he delivered his message. He was loud and impolite. It would be appropriate if he addressed his customers as " Ma'am or Sir, may I please help you scan". I highly recommend that Lidl needs to train their employees about how to respond to their customers with respect and social diversity awareness as well! read more

Three strikes. I'm done with Lidl. Same problem every time: the checkout process is totally choked. On my first visit I realized that I had left my reusable bag in the car. I asked my companion to hold my place in line and he was standing in the same place when I returned. Second visit: I brought an elderly friend who was curious about Lidl. She browsed the store but by the time we got through the interminable checkout she was weary and I felt bad about tiring her out. Third visit: - Good news: there's a self checkout area! - Bad news: all of the terminals were down. The one checkout line was long and while I was standing there one of the self-check terminals came back on line so I dashed over to it. I use the self-check at another grocery chain all the time so am not a newbie but encountered a technical problem. One of the items was not on the first of three screens and I was unable to navigate to the next screen - the interface does not have clear navigational arrows. I admit this is probably user error and for that I apologize but when the message to "call an attendant" popped up I was so exasperated I left without making a purchase. The one checker was still dealing with the long line - I don't know how long it would take for someone else to help and I didn't wait to find out. It's disappointing to review Lidl on the basis of staffing but that is the problem that's going to keep me away. read more

If you are looking for specific things, this may not be the place for you. If you shop the perimeter of grocery stores....... (produce and meats) basic meal staples. You can have a very healthy diet with great quality foods for MUCH less than other grocery stores. Very minimal. Meat sales are really good. read more

I enjoy having Lidl in the area, but find I hardly shop there anymore. When they opened there were certain products I loved which they discontinued. Diet Avalanche which was better than Diet Mountain Dew and a generic lemoning at woth lime drink I liked more than Diet Sprite or 7-up. I regularly requested online they restock until it was discontinued. They responded to me within a day and gave me a gift card which was nice....but I no longer shop for soda there as a result which is wha brought me in. They have a wide range of pasta and Indian sauces that are quite good. Pasta, chip, and cheese prices are a good value. I've been disappointed with fruits. vegetables, and paper products. By far my favorite section is their rotating freezer with German, Italian, and various themes plus their seasonal items. Pandamic has restricted the single serve rolls which used to bring me by. Breads are good and inexpensive. The lines are long every time I'm there. Perhaps bad timing, but they often seem understaffed. It's still a store I enjoy shopping at with its wide aisles if I'm out that way. read more

These "mini supermarkets" I'll call them are great. True they may not have all the items a full super sized supermarket has but they are very convenient. 1. The Size: great for those who dislike roaming 12+ aisles to get several things. You don't feel like you've walked 1/4 mile or more to get what you need. 2. Prices: items are fairly priced for the potion you get. I paid $3.79? for 1lb of thick sliced bacon. At Walmart it's $5.99+ and only 10 ounces. Price tags are large and you don't have to search for them. 3. Healthful: you'll see many healthy items which are non GMO which makes choosing and eating healthy easier on your wallet. 4. Short Term Special items: grills at an incredible price, kitchen items, home goods well priced. I like that they have special aisles designated. 5. Wines and Bier at prices that won't make you whine. Great selections well organized. I'll be shopping these new stores and trying out their own brands. FYI the brats are delicious! read more

I really wanted to love this place, but after two visits I will stick with Kroger and Aldi. The most frustrating thing to me is their flier. When you walk in they have them right near the door and it shows you everything that is on sale. For some stupid reason they put the current sale at the top of the first page and then next weeks sale at the bottom of the first page. If you do not notice the dates (as they are not completely obvious), you will be surprised at the checkout. Now why just that page and just that section show the following weeks sale is beyond me. The whole rest of the flier is current sales. So really why do that unless they are purposely trying to "trick" you to buy things? Second biggest complaint is that both times several of the advertised sale items were sold out. If you are going to offer deals, shouldn't you make sure you stock up on them? The first time I went it was the grand opening so I kinda understood, but this second time was Saturday around at 5pm. Oh and bring your own bags. That fact doesn't bother me at all and I was fun with having to pay 10 cents for the plastic bag and 6 cents for the paper bag. What I did not love was that both bags broke when I went to load them in my car. They were not heavily loaded and yet the plastic bag ripped at the bottom and the paper bags handle ripped as soon as I lifted it up. Needless to say I will not be going back. I recommend Aldis if you are looking for a generic type place with great deals. read more

Came to check out one of the newest grocery stores in Richmond. We have had several new grocery chains pop up in the 1-2 years, like 4! Crazy. So, this grocery store is laid out like Aldi. While I went down the aisle to take a look at what products they offer, I did notice some cheaper prices than the other chain stores in the area. And they do have a lot of "name brand" products (where Aldi has mostly their brand). The store was clean and things were organized. When I checked out with my couple of items, there is a charge if you want a paper or plastic bag, so I just opted for no bag since I only had 2 things. All in all, not a bad store. I need to take another stroll through to see how much of my regular shopping I could get done at this one store to see how much I would use it. But definitely a cheaper alternative for some items I do purchase. read more

Actually, it's a zero star if was able to rate it like that. Customer service and checkout are just awful. My last experience there was horrifying a new guy did a mistake for me when checking out. He puts that I took 'rustic baguette' instead of 'French baguette' so I went back to tell him respectfully that he had to give me 4 more dollars. To my surprise the guy was so rude telling me that he didn't anything wrong and that he scanned what I gave him. I kept explaining that both breads are so different and that he so what i bought initially. However, he insisted to treats me like a liar then his manager came and I thought she is going to fix it but she made it worst. She just confirmed what her collogue said by saying 'go back to your car and bring the bread with you if you want your money back' I was feeling like a liar and a theft. I had a baby with me I wasn't even able to waste that much time in proofing to these people that I'm not even fun of the other type of bread they put in my receipt. As I turned my back, the manager (she was a short girl with a dark skin and a circular face) starts gossiping me thinking I'm not understanding (Because I'm an immigrant). She was making humiliating Gestes with her face and her hands telling the checkout guy that I'm weird. When I saw her Gestes I told her that she doesn't have to treat the clients this way but she starts yelling at my face in front of everyone. She almost kicked me out saying "go bring the bread without extra talk and get out of my face" "I Don't want to hear anything". I Brought the bread; they saw that I was right but they didn't even say sorry about what happened. Finally, I discovered that they were mixing up the package of both breads and they didn't even want to say that. Rude disrespectful and very racist people don't go there. read more

This type of new shopping experience has become questionable when it comes to the supposed pricing advantage. If you do just a little math you can quickly see that prices here are very much like any other grocer. It's the packaging of their meats, seafood, and other items that seem to be a better value. For instance, scallops are packaged in 12 oz frozen packs whereas most stores package in 16 oz or one pound packs. They do provide a cost per oz on the price placard and when you apply that cost you quickly see there is no bargain here at all. Recently I heard a report that the scallop harvest was the largest in decades but I've never seen that volume of product available reflected in their pricing. As a matter of fact they had regular discounts on that product but not any more, they're taking full advantage of the wholesale pricing they pay and not passing any of that on to the consumer. Another item is the bottled water (33.8 oz) with a flavoring added priced for several months at .35$ per and now the price is at .55$ per btl. That is a 57% increase in the retail consumer price. That is also the same increase in price that Aldi has done with there bottled water. Could there be some illegal price fixing here ??? The short of this is simply there is no price advantage in shopping at Lidl or Aldi only a perceived value, but that may be all they need to persuade the consumer. read more

The store has really gone downhill since opening. Entrance is nasty and looks lile they never cleaned or swept the floors. Oh and the bathrooms! Never enough cashiers open during busy times. Update: We are finding ourselves shopping at Lidl more and more. They have great weekly specials so we have branched out and tried several different items and have been pleased with them all. I'm was excited to try Lidl as I am a fan of Aldi. While there was a great selection of pastries, I did not purchase and due to the fact that there aren't any pre packaged. It's gross to think of all the people who reach in those bins all day. I bought a loaf of white bread that crumbled at the touch. You couldn't even spread peanut butter on it. Bought a pack of ham and turkey it was dark brown on one side and smelled horrible. Will not be returning. read more

Several friends of mine on social media were posting pictures of their grocery hauls and exclaiming how much money they saved at Lidl, so I decided to come here to see what the fuss was all about. There is a decent selection of items, and there are some things you can't really find anywhere else for the price you get them at Lidl. I think this place is good for people on a budget, but while some items are cheaper here than at other grocery stores like Kroger and Food Lion, other items cost just as much (i.e. frozen items). Shopping here wasn't terrible, but my mind wasn't blown either. Doesn't really live up to the hype, in my opinion. I think I will stick to my regular grocery stores. read more

Just like Aldi only a little bigger inside. Selection and prices are about the same. The bread section is awesome and I will say, sometimes the produce is a bit more expensive but it's so much bigger and sometimes fresher. I will say, I agree completely with another reviewer about the ad, they put a small section of next weeks sales on the front page of the current weeks flier. Very confusing and annoying. Great place to shop! I was already a fan of ALDI's (and I'm sure LIDL will grow tired of people making this comparison), and this is along the same lines but larger. They also have a bakery section and large supply of alcoholic beverages. Prices are comparable to ALDI and easily beat Wal-Mart, as long as you're not worried about finding your favorite brand names. My son was helping his grandmother load groceries on to the belt. After the rude employee scanned all the items, he told my son he needed to show his IF because of the alcohol. First Time in the new General Booth VB Store. As it is brand new, everything was orderly and clean. Overall impressions - won't be going there again. Appears that 90% of the Products are Off/Generic Brands packaged to look like their Name Brand counterpart. VERY deceptive... Their Bakery Italian Bread is good with proper yeast holes and a good crust. I doubt that their Bagels are properly cooked - boiled then baked The hard items, bathrobe, 'copper' cooking pots, kids toys, look like they wouldn't survive the unpackaging. I just got an overwhelming feeling that i was shopping in the old '5 and 10 cent' Store.. (Woolworths...) Lastly, I didn't know that i had to buy Shopping Bags, no real issue at 7 cents per, but when the Cashier took my money, then left me to package up my Groceries, that was the end.. If you are feeding a large family on a very tight budget, this might work for you. Limited choices but all the essentials without the distraction of 6 varieties of frost flakes, etc.. Went there 3 times. The first time I thought I was saving money buying a few store brand items but the taste wasn't that good on any of them. I also got overcharged on one item but they gave me a refund. The next time I went with my shopping list and could not get all my items I needed such as corn muffins, curry powder and sauerkraut so I had to go to another store anyway. The last time I went, I brought my own bags but the cashier stood there staring at me and said should I give you a few minutes to start bagging? I said no I don't bag my own sorry. He said yes you have to, it's bag your own here. I said "last time they bagged it for me" He said that was just a for the first week they hired a bunch of temps. I was so mad I almost put the stuff back and left but I didn't. He tried to hand me a coupon with the receipt but I said "No thanks, keep it, I won't be back."
