Never have I ever witnessed the slowest delicatessen until today. OMG they move at a snails pace.

I'm not usually compelled to write a review for grocery stores - especially national chains. I'm a fairly loyal fan of Kroger. They hire people with disabilities consistently, they tend to have good prices, and they have a solid rewards system. They have the usual data mining program that takes what you purchase and turns it into e-mails, mailings, recommendations, and coupons. I've not had them excessively e-mail me, one of my pet peeves, so I don't tend to mind this. However, as I was stopping into this Geist area location to get a handful of items I couldn't help but notice that the experience was sticking in my psyche a little more than usual. That's typically a sign I need to write a review. This seems to be one of the larger Kroger locations in Indy. It's in an area that's sort of between mid-scale to upper-scale in terms of income. If you've been in Kroger, at least here locally, you know that the inside experience varies widely from "duck so you can dodge the bullets" to a more refined experience. There's a Starbucks in this location - a definite sign that this is an upper-scale area. Trust me, there's no Starbucks in my neighborhood Kroger. On occasion, my neighborhood Kroger cleans the floor. Perhaps I'm more sensitive to the economic divide, but it just seemed like this store represented the socio-economic chasm in Indy. In one neighborhood, there's a barebones, no-frills Kroger while another neighborhood gets a better shopping experience. I'll admit it bothered me a bit. On the flip side, for a "finer" Kroger (certainly not the best in Indy) this one is very surprisingly not well kept. It was poorly stocked, surprisingly dirty, and the architecture design was so weird that aisles seemed narrower and there were parts of the store not very wheelchair friendly. Generally, Kroger as a chain does well with accessibility. They have ample parking, as does this location, and automatic doors, also present here. Checkout aisles are nearly always a problem (and they are here) but generally employees are helpful. They didn't seem to have the smaller carts here. I came in for multiple items that Kroger typically carries and over half were not present or were not present in the style/flavor I desired. Prices here seemed a bit elevated - but elevated to the point that I said "I can get that later." I ended up leaving with 3 items because I couldn't find what I wanted and prices on what I did find were noticeably higher. The cashier was friendly and helpful. So, kudos for that. Kroger does carry local items including in the alcohol aisle, bakery area, and in other spots. I always like that. This wasn't a bad experience. It also wasn't a good experience. It was a fairly mid-range visit with an underwhelming store designed like an upscale store and offering frills not offered in other Kroger locations (though there are some that have Starbucks). I sort of left contemplating the economic divide of Indy and wondering why a great opportunity to build a top-notch spot here near Geist is being wasted. While I don't live at Geist, I do live close to this location and can easily access it. Yet, after this visit I can't think of a single reason I'd return even if I'm in the neighborhood. read more

After shopping at the Fisher's Krogers and being disappointed in their lack of seafood selection, we decided to travel out of our normal path to try this Geist store. We saw the beautiful salmon we wanted to purchase, after we filled our cart with everything else on our list, only to watch the seafood clerk walk past us and ignore us for several minutes. Finally looking up she snips, "Counter doesn't open until 10, I'm busy." Aren't we paying customers? There was no sign stating this... so, a trip to a different store? I was a server...multi-tasking isn't a thing anymore? Next...light on at check out...stood in line behind and in front of several customers...ignored by employees passing by...not even a polite, "Someone will be right with you..." really? Maybe Kroger isn't our shop anymore. Safeway in BroadRipple is sounding better every week. read more

Staff at this location are extremely unprofessional and rude. One of the workers yelled at another customer for accidentally hitting her chair with a cart...which her chair was sticking out preventing customers from entering the check lane easily; where most of the cashiers stand up. read more

This has always been my favorite Kroger, but Rodney and self check out is very rude!!!! my daughter went and asked him a question about pricing he rolled his eyes and walked away from her. I said you didn't hear her talking to you and he came over to us said absolutely nothing or acknowledged us.... Took one of my daughters items off and walked away..... So this Kroger is right across from our new neighborhood. I love it. I did not do Kroger before so this is new for us... but they have everything we need and the hours are perfect! They have the electronic handheld scanners - which is use sometimes and best of all they have a Starbucks. The only thing I wish they had was a gas station. Other than that it's a great Kroger. I especially love their holiday section. read more

This is a very difficult review. The store is poorly stocked because it is small and priority I'd given to many weird items. Little effort giving to stocking variety of a product with multiple flavors. On the other hand, the store is clean and the employees are very nice, both helpful and knowledgeable. I think that supervisors and department heads could improve the shopping experience by auditing their stock selections. If a Kroger 6 miles away can stock a variety, so can this one. Your one big issue will be the constant flow of Karens in the customer base. Obnoxious, self-centered customers flock to this location. Overall, this store could easily be a 5-star, but poor management/ordering policies are dragging it down to a 3-star. Still, this location is better than other nearby Kroger's just because of good cleanliness, employees who care, and very good check-out speed by the cashiers. read more

I love Kroger. Good prices, good selection, I'm a fan. Whether I'm stopping here after work or church for a rotisserie chicken or full-on weekly groceries, I can find everything I need! Also, points for $.10 off per gallon of gas at their stations? (Or possibly others, can't remember.) That's just icing on the cake! Speaking of cakes, their bakery is great. I can't tell you the number of times I've had a cake at a work party or elsewhere, I ask where it's from and half the time the answer is Kroger! Seriously good stuff. You also have to try one of their giant chocolate chip cookies with icing in lieu of a cake sometime. Killer. (Watch out for the sugar coma though!) Their seafood and meat case is great too. They'll season either one for you to take home. I frequently ask them to take the skin off of a salmon filet I order from time to time, and they do it with a smile! They also have sushi and a Starbucks in house, but I haven't tried either one yet. They also carry local beer & spirits so don't worry about making a separate trip elsewhere for those! The flowers! I always stop here for fresh flowers. Good prices, and they last a good long time! So many compliments, and I'm always asked where I get them. read more

This store has gone to complete hell over the past 6 months and I'm done. I've shopped here for over 6 years and up until 6 months ago I loved it. I've tried so hard to give the store grace and brush off crap service and failing quality just thinking it was due to renovations. Nope. Nope. Hell nope. They installed bag, scan and go devices (on the pretext of improving customer service) but they seldom work and when they do, I still have to wait and wait and wait in a line to pay. They need to fix their connectivity issues so customers can pay from their phones, and they need to have a line for B/S/G customers. Their "fresh" produce is disgusting, rotten, soft, and way past time for composting. And try finding someone to help in the deli, bakery, or meat case areas. A pro tip: Grab a folding chair, a Starbucks coffee, and a magazine. You'll be there long enough to finish both. It's really unfortunate there is no option to give a negative score. This is the Kroger second closest to my home. It has sushi and a better selection than the Kroger closer to me. It's pretty basic. If I just want stuff off the shelf and nothing fancy, I'll go here. My favorite Kroger is only 3 miles further, so I don't go to this one often. My favorite nearby Kroger is the Fishers location. It has store pickup and even more features. If you're in this area and need groceries, it's worth driving to the Fishers location and skipping this one. read more

This is one of the newer/larger Kroger stores. Upscale as befitting the neighborhood. As with the other Krogers, you need to shop the weekly sales, otherwise you pay too much. And in order to get the sale price, you have to use a Kroger affinity card. However, if you don't wish Big Brother Kroger tracking your purchases, you can ask to use one of the blank un-issued ones that are at all the cashier stations. P.S.: It has been pointed out to me that if you pay with a credit or debit card, your purchases are also tracked by major chain stores. Generally speaking this tracking is not done for nefarious purposes, but rather for marketing purposes and other "data mining". However, you never know when innocent purchases (suppose you always buy the beer for the monthly poker game or football watching party that you and your buddies have) can be used against you (your ex-wife uses your beer-buying history as "proof" that you're an alcoholic, in a child-custody case. Don't laugh, that has actually happened.) read more

This Kroger is the worst! We have lately been finding ourselves driving an extra 2 miles to another Kroger just to stay away from this one. The staff has been rude to my wife and the staff has been argumentative to fix issues that they caused (I.e.: forgetting to put groceries in the cart at bagging.) Furthermore, whomever stocks this store must not be able to count, or for that matter see! We have not had a visit to this store in over a year that the store had all our products in stock, sometimes with popular products being out of stock for weeks. In fact, the employee's are so clueless that I will find myself arranging the shelves to match the proper product label (so to help them out and so that they will notice things are out of stock), only to come in a week later and find that the wrong product was just pushed into the wrong spot again and NEVER restocked. This store is small and the isles are narrow, but they do a good job of keeping things in stock. Wendy in the butcher shop is always smiling and helpful. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The Kroger customer service is horrible at the check out. The people in the deli and meat section are great! They take out registers and add self check out. I get it, but when you have one person on the self check out lanes, it's horrible. And the one on the self check out today has been with the Kroger team for years. I have to agree that this store can't get too much worse. I never go to this store and find everything that I need. Last night it was Kroger's brand coffee creamer and any kind of chocolate milk--shelves empty. This is a usual day there. No surprise. Plus, it is a dark and unsightly and outdated store with employees who make no eye contact and seem to just not care about customer service (the basics like a greeting and friendly demeanor) and I almost always bag my own groceries. I could take that if the store wasn't so poorly stocked on a consistent basis, and downright OLD and UGLY compared to just about any other Kroger's around. I visit this Kroger sometimes multiple times a week. Yep, that's what happens when you keep forgetting to make a grocery list. Anyhoo, this place is pretty standard. I find it brighter and more spacious than other Krogers. Random thought - I don't know where they stream their music, but sometimes they play the best jams from the 80's and 90's. I've been caught a time or two singing and dancing in the frozen food aisle! I have no shame! :-) Hit or miss on the customer service. Some staff members will barely speak to you while others won't stop. You are pretty much on your own if you want to find something. The sales are fantastic. They also have two discount bins near the frozen food section where you can find some pretty good deals random items. It's not the best Kroger, but not the worst. It's close to home, so I will continue to shop there. read more

Had a first birthday for me great nephew. Chose Kroger because of the great taste of their cakes. Paid 33 dollars for this cake and thought we would receive a smash cake for the candle so he could do what most toddlers do. I called and was told they don't do the free smash cake. That was Marsh. Really that is amazing. As much money as we spend in Kroger on a monthly basis and on this birthday cake which I am sure probably cost about 11 to 12 dollars to make. The Starbucks was a great addition to this store. My wife and I visit this store frequently for the Starbucks coffee. The service at this Starbucks is fast and friendly. Our barista was awesome! The super barista in training made us two perfectly good Peppermint White Chocolate Mochas, not to mention while single handedly closing down the store the first night on his own. I hope he stays with company this young man definitely deserves to get a black apron. We definitely plan on coming back to this store. read more
