Apparently, I've been sleeping on Trader Joe's for a minute! I've known about Trader Joe's for years, but I live on the far Eastside of Indy, so it didn't make a lot of sense for me to drive past 20 other grocery stores to make the trek to Castleton. But now that I work on the Northside several days a week, I'm just a stone's throw away and decided to stop in to pick up some essentials. In my family, I am the main meal planner, grocery shopper, and cook. I have had this role for years, so I have a good amount of experience when it comes to grocery stores. And let me tell you, I get $&@*!NG ANGRY when I go to the store anymore! Prices are literally out of control. And I am talking about the big box stores with mass-produced food (containing known carcinogenic ingredients!) that is meant to be cheap. So, color me surprised when I walked into Trader Joe's and they have prices that are straight outta 2005. Two items I did always love at Traders Joe's were the Tea Tree Tingle shampoo and conditioner. I remember them bragging that they hadn't changed the price in over a decade. But we are living in the post-covid price apocalypse, so surely that has changed, right? Freaking $3.99 each. Are you kidding me? You know what kind of crap I have to buy at the other stores to keep my cost that low? Let me tell ya, it ain't good! And I LOVE the Tea Tree Tingle products. Salon quality. I'd pick it over most shampoos I've tried over the years. And it's less than $4. Crazy. So, I started to look around, a bit, and it's not just the HBA products. Aisle after aisle (ok, there are only like 4-5 aisles. This store could be bigger. But they have a lot of the things you need, so maybe I've just gotten used to mega-marts), I found myself thinking, "Wow, that's a good price." Over and over! Honestly, I was astonished. And in that moment, I fell in love with Trader Joe's. Here is a company who could easily raise their prices. You almost expect to pay higher prices for organic and whole foods. Yet, Trader Joe's is clearly making a significant effort to keep prices low. As someone who runs the family budget, I appreciate that so much. In a world where I feel like companies are trying to take advantage of people and gouge prices, Trader Joe's stands alone. I picked up a very nice, embroidered canvas bag (also only $4! WTF) to keep in my car so I can make these stops at Trader Joe's a much more frequent event!

4.5 stars. Still amazing. Products, service, return policy, e'rethang! Found some more favorite things: The key lime pie is fabulous! And the carrot cake, too! The lemon air freshener is just as good or better than PooPourri - and it's more reasonably priced and all natural. The coconut body butter is good. Apparently, folks make a conCOCKtion with it and the lemongrass oil to smell like pound cake and get folded! Lol. I haven't tried this, so I speak to its efficacy. Gotta love Black Girl Magic! Still losing a half star for discontinuing amazing products just as soon as I grow to love them! Better buy in bulk! You've been warned!

The image shows a wooden display shelf at Trader Joe's in Indianapolis, featuring vegan rice noodles in boxed packaging with circular windows. Adjacent to the noodles are bottles of Thai sweet ginger sauce and chili sauce, with a sign indicating the price of $2.49. The background reveals the store interior with aisles and other shoppers.

Nice, clean store. Laid out a bit differently than the one I normally go to on 86th St. Made it out without overspending. Well worth the visit when I'm on the north side. It's a bummer there's not one on my side of town, otherwise I'd shop here more.

I love Trader Joe's! I always find things here that are new to try and unique things. I am really impressed with their social distancing practices. They are limiting the number of customers in the store and have have lines taped off on the sidewalk for you to wait behind. The staff are always helpful and friendly, and their prices are fair. Thank you for helping to keep your staff and customers safe!

Stopped at Trader Joe's on 3/30. They had a line going down the sidewalk of the strip mall to get in, and everyone was doing a good job standing 6 feet apart. There was an employee at the door (the TJ's bouncer - who knew that was a thing?!) who was letting new people in one at a time when someone would come out. Another employee was spraying carts with sanitizer and wiping them down. The store was really well stocked with fresh produce, frozen foods and their packaged goods. There were only 2 things on my list that I couldn't find, and they even had toilet paper! It was a really pleasant shopping experience being in such an uncrowded store ... just make sure to leave some extra time for waiting in line to get in, and be sure to thank the employees and cashiers for being there!

Beauty run on this trip. Bag received at a Yelp event a couple of years ago. - The image shows a variety of Trader Joe's personal care products arranged on a light-colored countertop. The products include a tea tree tingle body wash, shea butter coconut oil hair serum, nourishing shower and bath oil, and lavender salt scrub. Behind the products, there is a Trader Joe's Indiana shopping bag with colorful text and a decorative design, partially visible. The setting appears to be indoors, with natural light coming from a window with blinds in the background.

I use to visit TJ's when they first opened this location many, many years ago and then I fell off. Thanks to social media I'm back again, and enjoying all of the goods they have to offer. Wonderful produce, vast and tasty frozen foods, beauty section with ingredients you've heard of, wine, beautiful flowers and all reasonably priced. Everyone can find something at TJ's. I can never just leave without more than was on my list. As mentioned by another reviewer, items are discontinued without notice, so that is a bit of a bummer. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

I have heard great things about these seasonings!

So all of the old reviews that mention Marsh don't apply to this newer store, now called Needler's Fresh Market. I don't know -- I think Needler's is pretty good! It has a little bakery on site (Lemon's Bakery Cafe), which has hot food and baked goods, with seating by big windows that overlook Mass Ave. Beyond the cafe, the rest of the joint is a small grocery store. You'll find a modest produce section with fresh-looking greens and fruit and things. They sell house-made hummus and sushi. The wine section is abysmal, but I did find a bottle of one of my cheapie low-key favorite bottles of Malbec here, so I picked that up. The dried ramen section is also better than it needs to be. The prices seem to be about the same as Kroger and other grocery stores. Checkout was quick and there were several registers open. The only thing is that I entered through the cafe and exited by the registers, so I got a little turned around once I exited. Keep in mind that you can only enter/exit through the cafe at certain hours. They lock that door after a particular time. (I think it's 5 or 6 p.m.)

The basics: The Fresh Market is a chain started in 1982 by Ray and Beverly Berry in Greensboro, North Carolina. It is still North Carolina-based and remains a somewhat modestly sized chain at 161 stores nationwide. It was very much modeled after European markets and shopping here is, quite simply, a warm and immersive experience. It's luxurious, however, it's actually a very simple market and I'd honestly never be able to shop here and get everything that I needed. I live a simple life. Not that simple. In 2022, Cencosud, a Chilean retail company, acquired a 67% stake in the company. From 2021-2023, the chain was named the best grocery store in America by USA Today. Now then, back to the local scene. The Fresh Market is unique in that it has an attached garage along with its street-level parking. There are accessible spots along the front and an automatic door. The floor plan seems to be wheelchair friendly and I was pleasantly surprised by employees actually being available and enthusiastic. Cash registers were actually nicely arranged. While there are end caps here (those enticing areas next to a cash register designed to get you to buy one last thing), they aren't cluttered and are surprisingly pleasant. I had the chance to stop in before an event at Jazz Kitchen across the street. The Fresh Market is best described as a specialty grocery store rather than a more full-service one. They offer easy meals, fresh foods, restaurant-quality meet/seafood, premium produce, baked goods, deli platters, and more. They also carry flowers. While I didn't really find what I was looking for, everything I found made me smile. It made me realize how much I wanted to return when I had more time to really explore it fully. Everything I saw really seemed to emphasize quality. This location is one of four in Indiana with the others being in Fort Wayne, Evansville, and Carmel. Since I wasn't able to find what I was looking for, I have a hard time going with the full-on five-star review. However, I'll add the disclaimer that I was rushing due to time constraints and very much look forward to returning at a time that allows me to really explore shopping here as it's close to my home and so incredibly pleasant. Grocery shopping usually stresses me out. Here? It actually relaxed me. Four stars for now. I'm sure I'll be forking over that fifth star in the future.

That said, this is not my favorite Saraga. (My favorite Saraga is the one in Castleton.) This Saraga is a little grody, to be honest. But how can you hate on a grocery store that exists in Indianapolis with such an abundance of food from all around the world? Overall, I am so glad this place is here. I visited Saraga not knowing what I was looking for, but was quickly drawn to the Japanese snacks aisle. I saw lots of different flavors of Ramune (that Japanese marble soda), which is my children's favorite, and Pocky, my favorite. Then I went to the seafood aisle and looked at the fish swimming in the aquarium below their unlucky brethren who had been filleted and arranged in the display case. Then I walked to the Mexican food aisle and saw many kinds of Mexican candy. The frozen food aisle had lots of different things, from Indian samosas to Korean vegetable pancakes. The meat aisle is hardcore. But, that's to be expected at an international grocery store. Be prepared to see pig snouts and chicken feet packaged next to less offensive, ambiguous red hunks of meat. This is the place to get bulk rice and beans, imported snacks and produce that you can't find anywhere else, like yuca root and plantains. I love Saraga in general, and this one is good and important to this part of Indy.
