While I can't say I frequent The Fresh Market, I have come here somewhat regularly enough that I'm surprised I've never reviewed this SoBro grocery staple that feels perfectly located. The basics: The Fresh Market is a chain started in 1982 by Ray and Beverly Berry in Greensboro, North Carolina. It is still North Carolina-based and remains a somewhat modestly sized chain at 161 stores nationwide. It was very much modeled after European markets and shopping here is, quite simply, a warm and immersive experience. It's luxurious, however, it's actually a very simple market and I'd honestly never be able to shop here and get everything that I needed. I live a simple life. Not that simple. In 2022, Cencosud, a Chilean retail company, acquired a 67% stake in the company. From 2021-2023, the chain was named the best grocery store in America by USA Today. Now then, back to the local scene. The Fresh Market is unique in that it has an attached garage along with its street-level parking. There are accessible spots along the front and an automatic door. The floor plan seems to be wheelchair friendly and I was pleasantly surprised by employees actually being available and enthusiastic. Cash registers were actually nicely arranged. While there are end caps here (those enticing areas next to a cash register designed to get you to buy one last thing), they aren't cluttered and are surprisingly pleasant. I had the chance to stop in before an event at Jazz Kitchen across the street. The Fresh Market is best described as a specialty grocery store rather than a more full-service one. They offer easy meals, fresh foods, restaurant-quality meet/seafood, premium produce, baked goods, deli platters, and more. They also carry flowers. While I didn't really find what I was looking for, everything I found made me smile. It made me realize how much I wanted to return when I had more time to really explore it fully. Everything I saw really seemed to emphasize quality. This location is one of four in Indiana with the others being in Fort Wayne, Evansville, and Carmel. Since I wasn't able to find what I was looking for, I have a hard time going with the full-on five-star review. However, I'll add the disclaimer that I was rushing due to time constraints and very much look forward to returning at a time that allows me to really explore shopping here as it's close to my home and so incredibly pleasant. Grocery shopping usually stresses me out. Here? It actually relaxed me. Four stars for now. I'm sure I'll be forking over that fifth star in the future. read more

I am required to leave at least one star when zero stars would be more accurate. Your website does not make it clear that delivery is through Instacart. Had I known that, I never would have placed a large order. I was bothered by numerous text messages about items that were allegedly unavailable. My husband returned to the store and located all the items that were missing from our order. If you cared about customers, you would not use Instacart or would, at the very least, advise customers that their delivery will likely be bothersome and incorrect. While we have been your customers for years, we have decided to take our business to Fresh Thyme. read more

First off let me start with I love Fresh Market in Broad Ripple. This is my first bad experience. Ordered a sandwich platter for Super Bowl to simplify my life and it did not turn out well. The meats were perfect however the buns they used were sticky and doughy like they needed baking off. The picture is the proof. Do better next time. read more

They were getting close to Closing time when I came in and I still received incredible help from the meat counter, the deli counter, and the bakery. The cheesecake slices are a dollar off at $3.99 a slice. Overwhelming help. I was able to get Pet and a good bean salad and a dessert and still make it out of there before they close. Lots to love about the Fresh Market! Everything is high quality, fresh and even the ambiance adds to the beauty! Bistro meals from the deli case are on sale on Thursdays for loyalty members- highly recommend! I had the half turkey panini and for the sides I got the pear broccoli slaw and the apple kale salad. They were all amazing. Super fresh and unique combos at truly a great value for a pretty balanced meal. My husband had the classic meatloaf with lemon tomato orzo salad and the Greek farro and chickpea salad and loved those as well! When I'm wanting to go "Fancy shopping," this is one of my go-to places. The prices are great, considering the quality of the items. Their Platter-styled bacon is heavenly, especially when you can find it on sale. I enjoy grabbing a shot of "healthiness" near the deli, where they have some great drinks you can order. Also, while you're back there, grab some pizza, sushi, and/or salad. Lastly, before you head to check out, make sure you head over to the beer and wine section!!! Then venture to the bulk food section to grab some dehydrated okra. Well, wait! You can't check out just yet. You have to grab some cheese, a bakery item, some spring rolls, and coffee. NOW you can head to the checkout. SHUCKS! You now have to go to the meat department. I am not sure how you forgot to get some of the yummy precooked goodies at the seafood counter. So, go ahead and grab the seafood Mac n cheese. What's that I hear? Oh, it's your stomach growling? No worries! I am able to get most things I need here, but some of the things I really enjoy are - the great selection of beer - much of which is local - the big wine selection - all the fun candies - coffee for everyone - loads of fresh fruit and vegetables!! - Texas Tamales - that's the brand. Fresh Market has them in four flavors. So good! - $5 sushi Tuesdays - friendly staff! - I know I'm forgetting something... This is a place I come when I want some inspiration on a new recipe or to improve an old one... only problem is those giant cupcakes that stare me down time and time again. I had come to the Fresh Market before but I was doing Instacart so did not have time to browse and really check things out. Came back when I had some free time and it was worth the visit. I got the tomato basil salmon burger and coconut shrimp. Both were delicious, cooked to perfection and worth the price. Fresh Market fulfills all my bougie tendencies, easily. Imported chocolate, air plants, edamame hummus, $3 glass bottles of mineral water -- this place has it all. The lighting here is also super dim, so as you are walking around, looking at the wall of tea or tables of French pastries, it feels kind of, I don't know ... romantic? They really know how to set the mood. It's just a nice place to browse with a basket on your arm. My visit included buying some small plants, because I needed some end-of-the-year teacher gifts. Fresh Market has a good selection of plants, so check them out if you're in the market for plants. I also came for some chocolate, and let me tell you: They have a lot of chocolate here. They also have a good selection of house-made pastries and baked goods. This was my first time shopping here. I absolutely LOVED IT!!! The store is super clean, well organized, and the employees couldn't have more pleasent if they tried. They were out of some main things because of the frenzy of people afraid of a little cold weather. I've lived in MN and WI through winters previously and IN is nothing to worry about in the winter, lol. I rather enjoyed their selections of higher quality foods and beverages. If you are one who reads food labels and eats super clean I highly recommend this store. Even if you don't really read labels this store is still a fantastic place to shop! When Fresh Market first opened years ago, I was a fan. But as time has passed, the quality of the products and service has fallen. First it started with long wait times to check out. Then came the items ringing up as full price when they are on sale (always check this if you shop here!). In the past few years I have avoided Fresh Market entirely because the produce spoils very quickly. Last week we returned to this store out of necessity (hi, Covid-19, you push us to do these things) for some vegetables and meat. We purchased pork cutlets and a slab of ribs. The pork cutlets were eaten the next day without issue. However the slab of ribs turn rancid in less than 48 hours. I'm talking I could immediately smell it in my fridge when I opened the door. Disgusting. You pay higher prices at this store, and you do not get higher quality or even acceptable quality in return. read more

3 weeks ago I purchased ox tail from their meat department. The next day, when I was browning the meat, a worm came crawling out of it. It was not flat, like a tapeworm. It was round and light in color. I got my money back no problem. The issue is when I called corporate asking for their meat distributor and if they are vetted, they said they would get back with me. They did not. When I called again, they then said they could not give out that information. Why couldn't they have contacted me and just said this? Do they think worms in meat is not serious? Granted, the law may be on their side given all the AgGag laws in effect to protect the meat business and not the people nor the animals. It still doesn't make it right. So, when Fresh Market carries a bad, contaminated item they will not let you know where it came from to avoid future purchases. There was no emotion when I called them. Well scripted, Fresh Market. Apparently, they don't like to take responsibility for their items. Buyer beware. This 1 star review is for corporate. I absolutely love the people in my local store. They are amazing. I literally cannot say enough about what a great deal this is... they have a small selection of specialty items from different countries. WHY-- the dessert case!! So when you plan out your romantical evening...make sure to stop at Fresh Market for their cakes, fruit tart, pies, cheesecake, cookies..because they are one of the best and its actually quite reasonable. $2.99 for a HUGE cupcake...and a very tasty cake for $11.99. Maybe your throwing a brunch....come to Fresh Market for your croissants and other baked goods...its better than any other grocery store in town... I came here a few weekends ago with my mother in law as she was looking for some low carb snacks and offerings. Parking is a bit tight in areas but overall it was not terrible. The store is very decorative and had plenty to look at. Biggest downside was the prices and the staff were not friendly and often cut in front of us as we were looking around. The checkout counter was very narrow and awkward to walk into especially with social distancing being a thing now. My mother in law found some snacks but I don't know if the price is worth coming to Broad Ripple to get them. read more

So funny when you hear a customer in front of you ask the bakery employee if the she made the napoleons and the bakery employees answer is "no these arrive frozen and we just cut them up. You have to go to a real bakery for fresh made" The napoleons are usually pretty good as are the petit fours ( also not made there ). Produce section has different apples and citrus then your typical grocery. Beautiful flowers at the front door and cauliflower puffs ( yuck ) beet puffs ( actually good ) and brussel sprout puffs ( also suprisingly good ). Higher in price then say Kroger but about the same as Fresh Thyme and they carry food with sugar, gluten and preservatives unlike Earth Fair ( that place scares me ). read more

The new store just opened in Carmel, IN is a disappointment. There is no wifi, no small cup free samples of coffee, there is only half/half and oat milk at the coffee bar--all of the prepared foods are high in fat, salt, sugar, and garlic/onion. Not a health focused business. read more

Further to my recent complaint, I have experienced two more episodes of bad quality products from this store, Just for context, I have been shopping for the past 6 years on average 4 times per week at the College Ave store, so after about 1200 visits, I know the place very well. In the past two,years, the quality and shopping experience has gone down (you need more than classical music to make up for this!). After my recent complaint, the store manager called me, but I was on business on the West Coast, so could not talk at the time, last week of August, 2018. He did not call me back. In the meantime, I have experienced two more incidents of less than fresh products at this store. 1. Fresh Market brand fat free milk (plastic bottle) which I purchased on Aug 25, 2018. I discovered next morning at breakfast that the milk was sour and best but date was Aug 10, 2018, so should have been removed from the cooler shelf 2 weeks previously. I have a picture and receipt as proof. 2. Mashed potato purchased from the deli counter the week before last. When I was at the checkout, the staff member pointed out that there was a contamination on top of the masked potato. It was green and I'm not sure what it was. I took it back to the deli counter and the assistant took it back but did not offer any explanation. This is supposed to a be a premium specialist grocery store which is reflected in the prices, however the quality of supposedly "fresh" products has deteriorated in the past two years. I now avoid "Not so Fresh Market" for the first time in more than 6 years as I cannot trust the freshness. read more

I came into Fresh Market on 1/14/23 @ 4:23pm to purchase nothing but wings, I wanted all flats however the gentlemen that was working behind the counter says they got wiped out of flats, a few hours ago. I ask if they had some in the back, he advised me they were completely out. I walked away, but returned to purchase the few chicken tenders that was left, this time I got Latasha (think that's her name) I told her that I originally wanted all flats but I was told they were all sold out she says hold on let me check, she goes in the back and bring out a big box full of flats and drumettes. Meanwhile the guy that had just helped me, was helping another customer down by the hamburger, he's making commits the customer he's helping is looking at me as if I did something wrong. I come there just about every Wednesday to purchase chicken, I live in Wanamaker SE side of town, I can go anywhere else to buy wings but these wings I like better than any other store but to travel as far as I drive to be lied to in my face, I don't know the reason, but it is bothersome to me. I really didn't appreciate the attitude, the lie, and the fact that he didn't want to go in the back to just check and see if there were any in the back. I work at Shelbyville Casino as a Sportsbook Ticket Writer I can't image acting like that to all the customers that I deal with on daily basis, I go above and beyond I for my customers. I understand when it gets overwhelming but you still gotta maintain great customer service. I got Super Bowl one of the busiest time, But I got to plan to be patient, keep a smile on my face, this guy needs someone to talk to him. I'm sure this will just be thrown under the rug. super disappointing!! I came here on a Sunday evening looking to get some pre-cooked food for dinner only to find that their food choices were very few, and not that fresh, not too mention expensive. I thought they'd be better than Whole Foods but that was not at all the case. Even the "fresh" multigrain bread I bought was not very good and a bit dry. For a while this grocery store was really slacking. Every time you'd go in things would be picked over and the staff seemed half awake. It seems in the past couple months things have changed and the store has really been stepping it up a notch. Reminds me of the Fresh Market I used to love shopping at. They have these weekly meals that feed a family of 4 for only $20. A couple weeks ago they had crab cakes with salad and pasta. Was delicious! You get what you pay for. Everything can be pricey (especially items available at other stores which make a direct comparison easy), but the service is great, fast, knowledgeable, and efficient. They do sometimes run out of the premade food, so you need to be earlier in the day or flexible. There are plenty of deals to be found if you just look around. The produce section is amazing. Definitely look for the combinations like the complimentary multigrain croissants with chicken salad. Or the chicken dinner meals if you want to have an easy, affordable meal. The cotton candy grapes are to die for, so if they're in season- make sure you sample one!Try the gumdrop grapes as well.The produce here is a little past perfect (seriously).It's probably the freshest I've seen in any store I've been in. Their cakes are soooo good. The Fresh Market is a really nice grocery store. Lovely flower section up front, wonderful cheese selection, tasty deli (try their potato salad!), an olive bar, beautiful cakes and pastries, a delicious meat market, bulk goods, and fancy chocolate and candies. I try to go in and get what's on my list, but I always find something extra that I just have to have. I like their selection of pre-prepared food. Sushi, sandwiches, dumplings, chicken wings, pizzas, quiches, just an overall nice variety of grab and go foods. In case you can't tell, I'm a fan. You either love this place or hate this place. Let's dispense with two things right now: One, it's expensive. You will pay much more for, say, hunks of Parmesan in any form here than at Marsh or Kroger. If they even have Parmesan block cheese at Kroger. At the same time, I can't find nicer heads of green leaf lettuce for cheaper than here. So you CAN find a bargain every once in a while. This place is for people who can afford its luxuries, which include high-end microwavable meals, stiff-looking confections next to the homely baked goods, an impressive array of raw seafood, and pre-prepped foods, like raw filet mignon kabobs. The wine and beer selection is no Kahn's, but it's decent for a grocery store. Sometimes I come here because it's on the way home. But I also prefer the dark atmosphere with free coffee to the alternative: dirty, crowded aisles, screaming babies, etc. You get what you pay for. read more

Shopping here makes me feel like a classy lady browsing a street market in Italy (Italians, feel free to disagree). It's expensive, yes, therefore I don't go often. However, as a college student who frequently grocery shops at Target (yikes), sometimes I crave the fresh fruit and meat that Fresh Market always provides. The dim lighting, Italian music, and incredibly gorgeous food make grocery shopping enjoyable. I love Fresh Market. Products are great (especially the bakery goods!!) and I've always gotten great service till today. I went shopping with my mom and as we were getting produce 2 workers in that area kept looking over at us, it was obvious because they stopped talking as they were staring until I looked over at them and they started talking to each other again. Then as I was in line to checkout I was looking down at my phone. Even though I was looking down I knew the guy in front of me had left, but the cashier didn't greet me nor did she reach for my cart or anything in it. I looked up to see what was wrong and she was just standing there with her hands clasped in front of her looking at me. Still not saying anything or reaching for my cart, despite it being at the end of the counter where it should be. Since she wasn't reaching for anything I pushed it a few inches closer to her. She finally started ringing things up. She took her time and just pushed everything to the end of the counter and let it pile up. My mom started bagging since she was making no effort to pack. Not a single word; not a "oh it's ok" or "thanks for doing that", as my 67 year old mom did her job for her. She then just hands me the receipt with a "here you go." If I were a rich girl.... I would be at Fresh Market on a daily basis. This grocery store is super clean! The staff is friendly, diverse and very helpful! I love getting salty snacks, bottled water, ice cream and banana bread from here. Fresh Market is for the healthy crowd but really supports those who have the frequent sweet tooth. My sweet tooth craving struck tonight as I was on the way to a friends house, I got their one dollar 12oz cup of Joe (Fresh Markets anniversary blend coffee) and KellBran popcorn. I could not believe how cheap the coffee was and you can get small coffee samples with cream and sugar in the raw (on the house). And OMG the popcorn.... Talk about melt in your mouth... Me and my friends ate the whole bag in one sitting. The only thing is, they are a bit pricey. Just think: you will pay more than Trader Joes but less than Whole Foods! The prices are high. Let's get that out of the way first. And I'm not just talking about the prices for the items you can't find elsewhere. I'm mostly talking about normal grocery items. A tiny jar of JIF peanut butter probably costs twice as much as it would at a large chain grocery. That aside, I've never had better produce, meat, or cheeses! The produce actually seems to stay fresh longer than the stuff I buy at Marsh or Kroger. The steaks...good golly! They are AMAZING! We bought a few NY strip steaks the other night for the grill, and they were better than any I've ever had at a pricy restaurant. I love the variety here. It is not my every day grocery. It's a specialty store. It's a special occasion store. When I want to treat friends and family to a home cooked meal, I buy the supplies here.
