A very fitting name for a place in Bothell also known as Crow City. I live very close and watched them remodel on weekends and evenings for almost a year. It's been a year since they opened, but we were reluctant to try them because, although we love tapas, we felt that they were overpriced. After seeing all the rave reviews on YELP, we decided to give their Happy Hour a try. The house red and white wines were a Bordeaux and a Sauvignon Blanc - both so-so. Welcome Kro Bar to the neighborhood! Located off of Main St. in Bothell is this intimate cocktail bar. The space is not very big, so reservations are encouraged. The largest party size they can accommodate is 6 people. Our server was fantastic. She was very welcoming and provided recommendations based on other drinks I have enjoyed in the past. The first cocktail I tried was The Mary Pickford, consisting of Don Q silver rum, Luxardo Maraschino liqueur, pomegranate Gomme, lemon, and house pineapple/agave. It was TOO sweet but very tropical and refreshing. After that, I had the All the way from Acapulco cocktail, featuring El Jimador Reposado, Dom. de Canton Ginger, house pineapple / agave, and ruby red grapefruit. We started with the Kro Old Fashioned (spirit-forward with a hint of cocoa), Adventurer's Last Word (well-balanced with a beautiful hue from the Green Chartreuse), and two Mary Pickfords which were deliciously gulpable! Then we moved over to food. We really enjoyed the slightly spicy Braised Pork Belly, Gnocchi Parisienne, Shrimp and Grits (a little heavy on the Cajun heat), and excellent Crispy Skinned Arctic Char. Finally, Bothell has their very own speakeasy bar! We've been to KroBar a couple of times with friends and we are impressed by the well-executed drinks, food, and decor. I highly recommend making reservations, especially on the weekends. Walking into the bar reminds me of Alfred Hitchcock's, "The Crows." True to their name, the theme is around crows and the origin of the concept is an intriguing read on their website. Their space has limited seating in a low light setting, which creates the cozy ambience and speakeasy feel. They also decorated the rafters with birdcages. Absolutely love it! The menu has a great list of craft cocktails and they even have Sazerac on tap. My favorite house provisions are the Aqua Ardens, The Silent Cry, and Curtain Call. The Aqua Arden is delicious gin, chartreuse, bergamot, lime, and pama cocktail with vapor infusion using a bubble gun. The Silent Cry has a nice mix of melon, mandarin, yuzu, and Suntory Toki finished with torched Rosemary. Finally, the Curtain Call is sweet and savory drink, reminiscent of kettle corn. It's a mix of bourbon, pineapple lemon, and Faretti Biscotti Liquer. It's served with a garnish of truffle popcorn. Their small plates compliment the cocktail list perfectly. For food, I recommend the braised pork belly, patatas bravas, and marinated olives. For dessert, their caramelized banana cake satisfied my sweet tooth. My wife and I FINALLY were able to make it out to Kro Bar! She was pregnant when first opened and now with a 9month old it's not so easy to get out at night. It was well worth the wait! We came after our anniversary dinner for a nightcap which turned into a few night caps. All their cocktails look and sound amazing so we had to at least try a few and we loved everything! The space is super cozy and a nice little bar rail to watch the amazing mixologist make the drinks. Cam is his name and he's amazing! Can't wait to come back and try some food (which all looked delicious coming out of the kitchen) next time. I love Kro bar! I've been coming here with my husband once in a while (probably once every other month) since it opened in Bothell and never have a bad time. I would say the only difficult thing is getting a seat (so make resos if you can) or be prepared to wait till 9pm for walk-in. The other thing is that we love sitting at the bar, and the bar is almost always full! Can't get a spot with the bartender! The food is so good! I love their rotating menu and they serve happy hour now. It's a small menu (and sometimes run out of certain options) but I still enjoy most of the items. The drinks are the highlight of the bar, and they're super creative. I love how it also rotates every season or so but the favorites always stay. We had an amazing time at Kro Bar! Our server was named Logan and was super cool, informative and really helpful the entire night. He definitely added that extra spark to our night. Personally, I wanted to stay seated at the restaurant until I finished my overpriced mediocre meal! That was NOT an option, and the server kept repeating "would you like your food boxed up? The next reservation for your table is here." I DO NOT recommend this unhospitable restaurant. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. Overall design is super nice, dark, well appointed, small with only around 20 seats plus 10 or so at the bar. Food: only had the duck charcuterie plate and the Pork Rillette on brioche. Duck was great, only thought is the plate could use a little more acid somewhere. The Pork dish was spot on spicy and amazing! Cocktails.....you guys hit it. I have high expectations with cocktails and you all nailed it! Balance and interest along with the flavors were all well planned and well executed! Service.....absolutely perfect for me. Very friendly, professional and relatable. Those things are not easy to accomplish and it is greatly appreciated! My ONLY complaint.....you need to get a curtain in front of the entry door. We were seated at the 2 top closest to the door and every time it opens we were blasted with cold air. Simple fix and I hope that gets done soon as we have a bit of cold weather left! Great job! So much character in food, drinks, ambience, menu, servers, and bill book. Food and drinks are excellent here. Charcuterie meat is soft and flavorful, each accompaniment is interesting to taste by itself. Dry aged duck is amazing, unique texture, skin has herb and roast aroma, both duck and jus are flavorful. Ribeye cooked perfectly medium rare, peppercorn sauce was flavorful especially when you bite into a peppercorn. Mushrooms and black manhattan pair well with this dish. We got 3 drinks and all of them were tasty and interesting to smell. We ended the meal with brownie and vanilla ice cream. The brownie has good strong dark chocolate, the cap has interesting texture and smell. The peaty smell comes a bit after the bite so it took me by surprise. It was lovely and fun. Finally writing a review from October 4th -- my first time visiting Krō Bär at the invite of my son and his girlfriend. I loved the abiance right away. Cool art, dark and inviting. My kind of place. We sat at the bar (which I recommend) and ordered cocktails and some small plates to share. We had the Aviation and Grey Matter cocktails. Both were outstanding. I don't like super, sweet cocktails. These were perfect in a "je ne sais quoi" way. We also ordered the gnocchi and burrata to share. Excellent! While the happy hour menu was still in effect we ordered a couple of their burgers to share. They were amazing! I guess my only critique is that the burgers are not on the regular menu. If you don't get there for happy hour you will miss out. Definitely going back to Krō Bär as soon as I can make my way up to Bothell. read more
