Nic's NYC Deli - Salted toffee apple

This little take away lunch spot popped up late last year on St. Enoch square and immediately…read morepiqued my interest. As the name would suggest it's loaded with American style food, don't be down heartened though this is no run of the mill 'American diner' serving cheap hot dogs and yucky burgers from the cash and carry. The food from Nic's is tasty, well thought out and delicious. There are of course the likes of baked potatoes and sandwiches with lovely looking toppings to be enjoyed. My eyes however were very much glued to the Hot Dog menu where you can try such delights as the amazing Cheesy Pig Dog ( bacon and cheese) or the BBQ Dog (sweet fried onions, BBQ Sauce and dill pickle) or the very tempting Glasga Dog ( black Pudding and fried egg). What makes these dogs in my opinion the best take away dogs in Glasgow is that they fry off their dogs for a few minutes which makes them extra tasty. I've not tried the freshly made pancakes or waffles yet but they do come with some lovely looking toppings - the Banana Beast ( banana, maple, pecan nuts and ice cream) Peanut Butter Jelly Time (peanut butter and blackcurrant or strawberry jam) or the Sweet Porker Stack ( bacon and maple syrup) these are definitely next on my list to try from the menu. On my last visit I finally gave in to the cool looking doughnuts. These lovely little clouds of light dough are made in-house ensuring they are as fresh as they come. The base is so soft and flavoursome, the topping is a luscious thick layer of fondant sprinkled with a variety of American style toppings - Oreo, peanut butter cups, smarties, marshmallows......the list is endless. What really excited me tho was while chatting with the girls they announced that they were expecting their doughnut menus to arrive any minute. Hang on! Let's just think about that for a second........a menu......dedicated to doughnuts.......it's the stuff of dreams! Nic's is a great wee lunch spotwhere they use really good quality food and the girls who work there are all lovely and helpful when trying to make your selection....what's not to love about this place.

When you go in, it looks just like a normal deli... then you notice the amazing menu (taco bowls, proper dogs, "Triple Bypass" baguette etc.) and the cheeky bottle of Buckfast that's apparently used on Fridays to make some of their food a little more special. Going back to the food, it did take me a couple of minutes to choose what to have because EVERYTHING looked awesome. Even the SALADS!!! I was guided by the lovely staff who work there and plumped for the Taco bowl. A large, crispy tortilla shaped into a bowl stuffed with salad, guacamole, sour cream, PULLED PORK (this was my topping), covered with jack cheese and some Glasgow Megadeath chilli sauce. Great stuff. And for dessert you MUST get one of their special donuts... loads of flavours. Think Krispy Kreme but without the nasty aftertaste (you know what I mean!). If you've never been here, cancel all of your other plans and go here ASAP! You won't regret it...

Maybe they couldn't gain a shop or maybe they like the free and open feel to this set-up...who knows? I'm not a big fan as it feels a bit too 'shopping mall food court' for me. They have a few tables and seats but the openness doesn't make for a very 'cosy' or intimate feeling if you fancied hitting here for a romantic KK date...HOWEVER I am big fan of the KK doughnuts and the fact they now have a place in town is excellent! No more hauling butt to Braehead to get my KK fix when I'm in need of a doughnut high. Staff here are nice as they are in every KK and sometimes this particular KK can get pretty busy, with the queue being quite loooong (much to the annoyance of the Bear Factory manager we noted one Saturday! Oops) yet the staff handle it well and get through the orders pretty swiftly. They're still having some teething issues with the Friends of Krispy Kreme app every now and then but they've assured me if I hold onto my receipt and contact head office all reward points will count and get added nae bother (pal). I have to add that if you haven't been in a wee while the new doughnut flavours are da BOMB! I love the Nutella ones (although I think they've sadly got rid of the ring one which was divine!) and the new Salted Caramel Cheesecake and Maple Crunch flavours are most excellent indeed. There's also a new S'mores and Chocolate Firecracker flavours which both sound interesting, just not totally my cuppa cha. So if you're popping into town/Buchanan Galleries for some retail therapy why don't you just take a wee pootle up to the 2nd floor and check out these Krispy Kreme peeps, you never know you might just discover your new favourite doughnut!

Nic's made my daughter a box of beautifully decorated donuts for her birthday that she was able to pick up on her way to class the morning of her birthday. The staff at Nic's were super helpful and even allowed my daughter to pick up the surprise baked goods at 9:15 when they only opened at 10 AM. And she reported that they were delicious! I was able to order, prepay, etc. - super easy! Thanks so much Nic's for making my daughters abroad birthday so special!

I'm a massive fan (see previous review of their St Enoch Square branch) but the only day I can make it to Nic's is a Saturday due to their opening hours and me working relatively far away. So when I heard their new establishment would be open til 11pm, 7 days a week, I was pretty excited to say the least! It's so great that the Nic's concept has really taken off, especially since most new places in Glasgow seem to be massive chain burger joints these days!!! For those who might not be aware, Nic's NYC Deli is just that. They serve glorious pressed sandwiches with delicious flavour combos, hot dogs, taco bowls and pancakes among other tasty offerings - like their amaaaazing doughnuts and American goodies such as Twinkies (which I definitely want to try at some point, just because!) This branch also has the extra addition of crepes (sweet and savoury!) so those who frequented this place as a Crêpe à Croissant can still get their fix. There's always the worry that another branch won't quite have the same feel as the one you're used to, but I'm happy to report that this definitely isn't the case with this one. I absolutely adore the decor, it's really cool without looking like it's trying too hard and the whole place looks fab! As for the food, it is as delicious as ever! The bf opted for a chili dog last night as he hadn't tried their hot dogs at all yet, and he absolutely scarfed it down, totally loved it. I got their LA Club Lite (chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes and either chipotle or dijon mayo) since I hadn't had that one yet and I flipping love avocado and bacon together. It was brilliant, the bacon was done extremely well which I love, and their ciabatta bread is very tasty indeed. We were gonna get some doughnuts to take away, but our server offered us a free one each since they've just opened! Result!! I've got a Snickernut sitting in its wee bag under my desk right now, but since it's lunchtime I have a feeling it might disappear fairly soon... What more can I say? The staff are great, the food is great, the prices are great too - I think all in we paid about £12 for our food and a drink each which, for the quality and size of everything is pretty darn good! It's extremely reassuring to know that if I feel the need for a Nic's I can just pop along and get one...the downside being this might happen far too frequently from now on!!!

If you have never been in to Nics Deli (why not? what is wrong with you?) it is a cool, but incredibly busy little lunch spot with a wall of cool black and white pictures, a large service counter and a few painted wooden tables dotted around so you can choose to sit in. Okay! Okay! enough about the decor, lets talk about the food because this little slice of American heaven is a lunch time mecca for me - Hotdogs, Sandwiches, Wraps, Baked Potatoes, Salad Bowls and Taco Bowls crammed full of delicious and imaginative fillings....you can find their full menu here, I would tell you all my favourites but honestly I love them all. As well as a great choice of savoury options their sweet offerings are off the charts amazing - the donuts are INCREDIBLE, best donuts I have ever tasted, and again with amazing flavours and topping to choose from. Also on offer is a selection of light fluffy american pancakes and waffles with tons of lush flavours to choose from. Are you getting the impression that i love this place? Because I really really do. On this particular visit I ordered a foot long cheesy pig dog, which is a hotdog covered in bacon and melted cheese and was exactly as delicious as it sounds....although this is definitely something I need to eat with a fork and knife because it is so big and messy. For dessert I choose what can only be described as the king of all donuts - a cookies donut sandwich! I'll give you a moment just to process the thought of a cookie donut sandwich!....... This is one of their regular freshly baked donuts slathered in fondant and sandwiched between two crunchy but chewy peanut butter cookies, then topped with honeycomb and more fondant - are you speechless? I certainly was when I saw it and I can't even begin to tell you how epic it tasted, even if it did take me 3 sittings to finish it. Nics Deli is one of my favourite lunch time spots in G-Town, due to the calorie count I clock up on my visits I tend to keep it as a treat and maybe only visit once a month....but boy the calories are worth it.

I'm not in this part of the city often so have to admit I was very pleased to see this place! I've eaten in all three now, and each have the same menu of deliciousness (they should call it that actually - BOW DOWN BEFORE THE MENU OF DELICIOUSNESS!) chock full of taste combos that make me salivate, all available on a variety of breads or whacked on a baked potato. And that's before I get to the donuts (better than Krispy Kreme?). I had the Manwich - horrible name, great sandwich. A wonderfully meaty affair, but all of it tasted great, soft and moist turkey breast, nicely peppered pastrami and... some ham I think too? Chuck some BBQ sauce in there, throw it all on a ciabatta, toast it and deliver to my face hole, stat!! Is what I didn't say to the lady who served me, but it was something like that... And I'm salivating now thinking back to it. Sure it's all a bit cheap and cheerful, but the staff are always friendly, and you can even mix up your own amazing concoction of deliciousness if you are feeling creative! It's kinda hard to fault any of these establishments, so if I was being very picky I'd suggest that this one was a little cold inside so I ended up keeping my jacket on. No biggie though!

As I was just popping in for a quick visit, I just grabbed some baked goods to go. Today is their first day of opening and my gosh, they look like a very slick operation already. I'm not sure who is behind the business but they certainly know their stuff - the place looks amazing, the food is drool-worthy and the staff were all super friendly and chatty. I couldn't resist the lure of a couple of donuts which are plain and sugar coated. I noticed some very delicious looking stuffed-brioche and got those two - plain, caramalised onion or feta and spinach filled. The total for two donuts and two brioche £10 which I thought was pretty pricey (and the only reason this is 4 rather than 5 star) - maybe they'll be the best damn brioche I've ever eaten though so I might update this review in a couple of hours. [Edited: after I posted this, I got a message from the owner to say that I should have been charged around £7.50 so there must have been a mistake at the till. I really appreciated that, so have updated the score to the full 5 stars as it was so nice of them to get in touch about it! The donut and brioche were both absolutely delicious too, by the way.] They have an epic brunch menu which I'll have to come back for - brioche French toast, eggs benny, pancakes, waffles. Everything is made fresh and they certainly know how to make you drool over the food. If you're in for lunch, there's sandwiches (made on baked in-house bread), hot dishes and salads. Seb & Mili are opening another store in the next couple of weeks in Finnieston, by Old Salty's (the blue store currently being done up) - apparently that space is amazing, so I look forward to visiting there too.

The first time I tried Seb & Mili was with Queen B herself. We went over for some lunch and chit chat! I ordered from their brunch menu a plate of waffles and bacon, a combination that can't go wrong. However, my plate weren't as impressive as I'd hoped. The waffles themselves, though tasted fine, were SO SO SO thin! Aren't waffles suppose to be fluffy and crunchy on the outside but chewy on the inside? And the bacon, well ... I dunno ... weren't even crunchy? They were so pale, it was a tad questionable! I think Bri's special dish of chicken and corn was probably much better than what I got! The second time I went, I brought my friend over for coffee. She made the mistake of ordering a soy latte because boy was it baaaaadddd! They're obviously not the place to have a cuppa! They don't know how to make proper coffee at all, and add the bad management of soy milk, yikes! Her soy milk was curdling so bad that it looked like tofu. There's a certain method to making soy lattes/cappucinos, if you don't know it, don't serve it. Also, the coffee was burnt. Mine was as bitter as a car tyre. Added like 3 teaspoons of sugar to try and save it. Conclusion, don't order coffee from here. They have homemade cakes though, which are pretty ok I guess. We tried the muffins and brownies! Muffins are pretty decent but brownies were far too sweet for my liking. Perhaps a super sweet tooth would love it? Again, the space is lovely! Green and very comfy. The staff members are sweethearts too! They kinda save it for me. But they really need to reevaluate what they're serving their customers! The food can be so much better!

Thanks to Carolyn E for adding the photo of this place otherwise I was in such an oblivion I think I'd have missed it! So, they do doughnuts. I'm not sure the name is entirely accurate as they didn't seem to be hot when I purchased them - although the owner did tell me they are made fresh on site every day so they are HOT in that sense. Today there was a selection of doughnuts - no mini ones, sadly - I got the chocolate & blueberries, coconut and chocolate & custard doughnuts. Now, I'll be honest - I don't really have a sweet tooth and I prefer doughnuts which are relatively plain and sugar coated rather than icing. I've tried the chocolate & blueberries one so far and thought it was really good, clearly fresh and a really nice filling which was a bit unusual. Prices are reasonable at £1.50 for a two filling doughnut and £1 for a single filling. They also sell things like coffee, baked cheesecakes, hot dog bake and ham & cheese bake. The owner was super friendly and welcoming, and really helpful. This wee shop definitely deserves a visit.

I don't think they're very much like a regular doughnut as we know them and more like a big sweet filled bun with glazing. I think it's the glaze they use I'm not keen on ~ I've tried 2 different flavours and they both had the same, overpowering, candied fruits flavour glazing on them which detracted from the actual filling flavour/s. Their fresh, mini (and proper hot) doughnuts however I am a fan of. You can get them in plain sugared or coated in cinnamon. I opted for cinnamon & they were delicious. You get 4 smaller, ringed doughnuts for £1.20 which I think is really good, especially considering they cook them fresh to order. As well as doughnuts they sell baked cheesecake which I haven't tried yet and some savoury snacks too such as toasties. They also have a basic selection of hot drinks. The lady who works here is always really friendly and does try a bit of the ol' up-sale on you which is fair enough as they're a small business trying to get by and with just selling such few products at a very cheap price (most doughnuts are only £1 each) you do have to wonder how long they'll be around for... If you're in the area then deffo pop in and give them a try. The mini hot fresh doughnuts are delicious & you can save yourself a trip to The Fort by getting them here!
