View from the mezzanine. Great for people watching.
    Lucy B.

I like this place, it's a lovely, dinky place to hang out. Perched on my stool on the mezzanine, like a walloping great canary, I found it a great place to have a coffee, people watch, and really, just relax. And it IS a very relaxing place. There's plenty of natural light, there was non-intrusive music playing, and the gentle hub-bub of chat. You can watch the hip Finnieston world go by (ten points for every ridiculous beard) or peer down on the folks below, resisting the urge to throw tiny things into the decorative french bread display below. I also really liked the beautifully carved little bar upstairs - it's really lovely to sit at. I had an Americano coffee, because that's my coffee. I don't drink any other version. Check me being all hardcore an' that. They have a sign that says they have Artisan Roast or Dear Green. Sadly, they had run out of Artisan Roast, so Dear Green it was. I really really want to like Dear Green. I'm from Glasgow, it's a Glasgow coffee, and it's called Dear Green - I mean come on, what's not to love and swear undying allegiance to? Well, to start, there's the taste of it. I'm sorry *whispers* - I don't really like it. I've only had it twice and the first time I thought that maybe there was something wrong with it. Nope - it's supposed to taste that way. I'm in no way a coffee expert, but to my tastes, it's weirdly acidic and a bit sour. I know other folk go nuts for it - each to their own. I had no cake. There is no vegan cake. Although, I have to say, the nice woman explained it very graciously. Simon H on the other hand, made up for it with a big scone, and some sort of milky effort of a coffee. We also bought some ciabattas for later, and made some mighty proper garlic bread with it. T'was tasty. I'd definitely go back to this Seb & Mill. I was intimidated for a while about going in, because I didn't know what it actually was - there's no sign over the doorway outside. So me with my paranoid android hat on is thinking 'should I know what this place is... can you only go in if you're in the know? I certainly don't want to stumble in, ask what the place is, then reverse out cos I'm not cool enough... Maybe they're just arrogant - they're so cool that they don't need a sign...' The answer to all of this is that the reason that they don't have a sign is because they are a small business, and they are seeing how it goes, and just building bit by bit. So next up, maybe a sign outside, maybe some breakfast options. They definitely would like to expand their food range. They seem like nice people, and I hope they build this wee place into a roaring success. And next time, hopefully I can have an Artisan Roast.

Poached eggs with avocado and tomato salsa with a decaf flat white.
    Ashley D.

I love this little spot. I've stopped in a few times for the odd flat white and a relaxing moment sitting at the window or for some delicious bread and macaroons to take home. Most recently I met a friend there for a good catchup upstairs. Both mothers of young children we remarked how wonderful it was to have some adult time in a spot that was very unlikely to have any young children. With high wood stools for seats and bars for tables it is welcoming for adults but cumbersome for children. For this occasion we were delighted. We both order poached eggs, hers were traditional with hollandaise sauce and mine were a bit lighter with a fresh and flavourful avocado and salsa. The eggs oozed a gorgeous yellow/orange colour and the bread was perfection. Looking forward to going here again.

    Not your average bread rolls

Seb & Mili is a very small cafe but it's perfectly formed. There's a handful of seats downstairs and just a few more upstairs on the Mezzanine. In between everything important is packed in. By everything important I mean coffee, cakes, pastries and breads. Because it's not just a standard coffee shop. The coffee is good (it's Artisan Roast) but the really exciting stuff is the baked goods and, quite probably, the rest of the food. I've not tried it, but I got very jealous of another customer who had ordered eggs benedict last time I was there - it looked perfect. What I have tried is a donut (yummy!) and a loaf of their pretzel bread (also yummy!). As far as Seb and Mili's baking goes, they've got it spot on. It's also just a nice place to sit. It's calm and doesn't feel cramped in spite of the small space. The WiFi is free too, so as with all places with coffee and WiFi, I think working here would be pleasant if you could get a proper table.

Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.

I had their house chai and their London fog, both of which were creamy and SO flavorful and served in the loveliest teapots. The finger sandwiches and cakes were also really good and I actually did leave full, as did my travel companions. The servers were friendly and checked in often, and the place itself was actually fairly big (had 2 floors and we sat in a corner on the second floor), but it had a quant feel. The cost per person was reasonable in my opinion at £16 per person for a mini pot of tea and selection of sandwiches and tea cakes. We really enjoyed our experience there and I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a lovely afternoon tea!
