    Delicious Doughnut

I love that there are clear allergy guidelines on the case but also the woman working went and double checked the sorbets to make sure they were egg-free. She was super patient with my 3 year old after he tasted two flavours and tried to make up his mind! Watermelon and Strawberry were both yummy! The BEST part though is the sister store which shares the same store front: Nom Nom Donuts. HOLY FREAKING AYE. I'm crazy picky about doughnuts and these are really good. Not overly sickly but sweet and light with a variety of flavours. Forget you-know-what with the long lines in Edinburgh there are great doughnuts in Glasgow already!

Ice cream was the ticket on an unusually hot evening in Glasgow last week. With a visiting relative in tow we decided to hit up a local ice cream parlour and sample some fancy flavours. I picked a waffle cone with a scoop each of salted caramel and banoffee and it was bloody brilliant. The salted caramel was nice a sweet with a hint of salt but not too salty as to be overpowering. Banoffee sweet and creamy as you would expect. The cone held up like a champ right to the last bite and I even managed to finish it without toppling a scoop onto the pavement. RESULT! The other two had double scoop cups of coconut and vanilla raspberry swirl, and oreo and chocolate. Everyone was very impressed with their flavour combos. Will definitely return for more if the sun visits again!

    Phew, some left for us!

For crying out loud, I swear this place is what my dreams are made of! After the sneaker convention and lunch, I convinced the boys they needed to try Big Lick's doughnuts. We walked in and their jaws dropped to the floor. They each ordered 2 doughnuts each and devoured them in minutes before even leaving the shop. I can say that I've made a fan out of these guys. Previous to this quick stop by, my boyfriend and a few friends and I stopped in on the way to the west end. We each ordered ice cream and a doughnut and left feeling ten tonnes and happy as pigs. My boyfriend and I shared a scoop of Banofee Ice Cream and a scoop of Daim ice cream and a strawberry doughnut. To be completely honest, I don't think either of us has ever had better ice cream they we had that afternoon. It was really difficult not to devour the ice cream in a one and share it with someone! It truly was something out of this world. The prices are ok for what you get. Doughnuts are still a new thing here in Glasgow, so they're a bit on the pricey side compared to what I can get fat on in the states, but for what it's worth......they're worth it! The ice cream is £3 for two scoops in a cup or on a cone, which is ok, I suppose. Either way, I dream about their ice cream and doughnuts on a daily basis and am really happy that they're open and not really convenient for me to get to in a matter of minutes, otherwise i'd be in big trouble.

Big Licks is the Finnieston's desert place. Your options are pretty much ice cream or doughnuts, with occasional other baked treats and things like milk shakes available. For me, the best bet is the ice cream. They have a pretty big selection, with two large cold units full of a wide range of flavours. I recently stopped in for two scoops - one of coconut and one of salted caramel. These are generous servings, so much so that I actually might consider only getting one scoop next time. Both flavours were delicious and I can also vouch for their raspberry ripple being delicious. I've only ever tried the berry glamour doughnut which is beautiful and tasty but maybe just a touch overly sweet for me (yes, I know, if I don't want sweet stuff I'm in the wrong place, whatever). It wouldn't put me off trying the others, though.

Just part of the doughnut cabinet!

If you want an extra special ice cream cone in Glasgow then Big Licks is the place to go! I have friends who rave about the place (the warm cookie dough with ice cream and lashings of Nutella is a particularly popular choice!), so, when a burst of sunshine hit the city, I knew I wanted to head here for a giant ice cream cone. I opted for the Nutella ice cream while my boyfriend choose the cookie dough flavour. Both were thick and rich in flavour and consistency and tasted like what they were supposed to - no sickly sweetness or artificial flavourings here. I love Kinder chocolate so was delighted to find the Nutella ice cream tastes so similar - I did say at the time it was like a Kinder Surprise had been turned into an ice cream cone! With real chunks of cookie dough mixed in, I couldn't resist, ahem, sharing my boyfriend's cone too...

Good selection of ice-creams and hot toppings though the interior and lighting wasn't very inviting.

    Strawberry and coconut!

I mean, later, when you've already bought a cone you can worry about consistency and about how well it even pulls those flavours off, but surely if they don't have the flavour you want you'll just go elsewhere. Crolla has a great range of flavours. As well as all the old classic flavours it has a few more exciting options as well as a small number of sorbets - perfect if you want something just a little more refreshing. Fortunately, they do manage to get the flavours right (at least all the ones I've tasted) and the consistency of the ice cream is always creamy perfection. They do so-called "real food" too. I recommend their student lunch deal which is a soup and half sandwich for a very reasonable price. The pizza cones look great too but I don't think I'd have any idea how to actually eat one. I'll try eventually and get back to you on that. Their coffee is pretty good too but really, you're here for the ice cream and the ice cream is good. Treat yourself to an extra scoop.

I haven't had ice cream in months either so I was super stoked! But as I was approaching the place with my partner and friends, we were greeted with a whole ton of MESS. Dirty sticky tables outside, covered in used napkins and to-go gelato cups that had dried up melted ice cream in it (can I say EW?). Seems like the staff don't care much about cleanliness??? We had to clean everything up before sitting at one of the tables outside, which really did make my impression of the place quite bad. When you go in, there are tables and benches that are the same; not cleaned and not cleared from cups and napkins. Is this place dirty or something? :/ I have no complaints about the staff member who served us though! He was a friendly lad! He laughed at me when I asked if the toppings and sauce for my gelato were free, and then proceeded to generously coat my gelato with thousands of sprinkles and chocolate sauce. I laughed in delight as I paid 3pounds for such a wonderful portion of ice cream. I also really liked the ice cream itself! Best way to describe - SINFUL. Guilt with every bite, but it's so worth it hohohohoho! The only comment is, please maintain the cleanliness of the premises! I mean, I'm not a picky person, I don't mind seeing tables uncleared if the staff members make an effort to clean it when they notice new customers coming in, but they saw us put our stuff down, they saw us sit outside with the dirty crap and sticky stuff on the table, and yet they just shrugged it off and left us to clear everything ourselves. Indifferent much?

Smile!!! It wont hurt you know?…read more That is what I felt like saying to the staff at Nardini's. Rarely have I ever seen a more unhappy looking bunch of staff in.... well... ever? I am a HUGE fan of ice cream and the more piled high it comes in glass dessert bowls the better. I love loads of flavours, toppings and sauce. The idea of a knickerbocker glory brings back great childhood memories. You can get a great dessert here, but sadly the desserts are let down by a variety of other things. Firstly the extremely unfriendly staff who would struggle to raise a smile even if the café was flooded with a gang of ten comedians giving out laughing gas. Then there is the general look of the place, it is all a bit run down and...... well... fusty perhaps? Finally the price. £7.95 for a dessert that would elsewhere cost about £5.95 max. If your going to sell desserts at a premium due to the name at least make the whole experience when you visit the café a good one. If you really want to go, you will probably enjoy the actual ice cream, my tablet one was tasty enough. I just doubt you would want to go back as it is missing the extra little touches that make you a fan of a place.

I've partaken of the occasional take-away scoop of ice-cream since they got their prime spot on the Byres Road, and it tasted just as good as it did in the olden days! Never been lucky enough to bag a spot inside their cafe before as its always been rammed, so the other week when I spotted a few empty tables I insisted we head inside for an ice-cream and a cuppa. I was a little surprised to find no table service at the cafe but perhaps that helps them get customers in and out quicker. Takeaway comestibles are served from the counter at the door. Customers who are sitting-in make their order at the rear counter. Its all very clean and comfortable and the air-conditioning is just at the right setting. The coffee was as good as you'd expect from an established Italian cafe, but for the first time I was a little disappointed with my ice-cream. I chose the Daim Bar flavour but there was so little of it in the ice-cream that it just tasted like vanilla. The other two were very happy with their choices but I'd have preferred a Mcdonalds McFlurry at a fraction of the price. Ho hum.

I started out with a mixed salad, it had chopped greens, a layer of tomatoes, red onions and drizzled with balsamic vinegar, not only was this mixed salad good looking it was great tasting too! I knew since I was indulging I needed to keep it moving and dive into dessert, after checking out the yummy menu I went with the Tronchetto Al Cioccolato- it was an Sicilian style chocolate cake, rolled together with Italia Amaretti & cookies served with nocciolate ice cream, oh sweet bliss! Located just off the Finnieston strip next to Ox & Finch, we actually tried going here last year but for some reason they were closed on a Saturday night so we went to Mother India instead. A group of 5 of us visited for dinner last night. The restaurant is pretty small actually but not pokey - no one was seated right beside us and the music gives it a good atmosphere so you don't feel like people are listening to your conversation. The menu is really impressive - I pretty much wanted to eat every single dish. As Rocco G says, it's not your usual Italian dishes on the menu and you can be a little more adventurous here (although there is a section of traditional Italian dishes which are more common in the UK like bolognese, carbonara, lasagne). There's lots of eggplant/aubergine (drool) and loads of delicious-sounding seafood, as well as nod to Scottish folk with a chicken breast stuffed with haggis. There's even a good range of vegetarian dishes. I went for the scallops to start (£9.95) which were beautifully plump (is there any other way to describe a good scallop), served in a lovely tangy Aurum liqueur sauce. For the price I thought 3 scallops was very reasonable, and really enjoyed how perfectly they were cooked. For main I couldn't go past the gnocchi with king prawns in a white wine sauce (£11.95). It was a huge portion (too large, if I'm honest) but overall a really wonderful dish packed with flavour but not smothered in sauce, and really letting the puffs of gnocchi shine. There was one main large prawn (in the shell) and then smaller prawns scattered around the dish - again, for the price I thought this was really good value. I even went for dessert (something I rarely do) as I quite fancied the tiramisu (I think around £5). Again, great sized portion, lovely presentation and had a nice boozy/coffee kick to it. I couldn't eat it all so they happily popped it in a container for me to take home (guess what I'm having for lunch today?!). Service was great - we were looked after by two staff members who were both friendly and helpful. There was a mix up with the mains as one of our party didn't receive his, and they only realised as they were bringing out our dishes. I thought the way it was handled was really nice - they offered him some bread while he waited, and then took his dessert off the bill to say sorry. Life lesson: If Rocco G says it's good, it's going to be good.
