This is a great family-run business. The atmosphere is very homey and you feel like a local when dining there. My family was in Anchorage for 2 days and we ate there for breakfast both mornings. We heard about this place on you tube and decided to try it out while we were in town with 2 guests from CA. They split the veggie omlette and had the biscuit with homemade strawberry jam. I had Uncle Parkers corned beef hash, homemade and chunky, well seasoned and nicely crisped! Delicious. I had the biscuit with jam too, so good, tart and spreadable. Jim had the fish and tater tots. The fish was cod and fried beautifully golden brown. He raved about the fresh made starter sauce. The coffee was tasty, hot and kept on coming! Heather was our waitress, attentive and friendly. First off, this place has fantastic service. Everyone was absolutely nice and warm to us. We had no wait for a table which felt surprising for what seemed like a full house. My husband chose Kriner's for breakfast today after having tried them a week ago and having good things to say. We shared Ted's breakfast and the two of us did not finish. What an incredible value. It is very likely we will soon return. This is the kind of place you can take your family from out of town who want a great local spot for comfort food. As mentioned by many Yelpers, Kriners is located on a one-way and can be hard to access. Parking and exiting is also a pain. If you can get thru all that, inside, you'll find it feels a lot like visiting someone's home. I'd describe it as a low volume intimate diner. Although we are always welcomed by staff, and feel comfortable because of the staff, families like mine, (minority + disabled child unable to mask his Autism), definitely stick out like a sore thumb here. Come for the good eats, but don't be surprised if you get unwanted stares. I was born and raised here, so I'd say I'm used to it. Kriners has THEE best honey mustard and homemade jams, as well as the THEE best cinnamon rolls (try them warm). Highly recommend. We have never had a bad breakfast here. My family and I used to be regulars of Kriners as well as their sister location. I will agree that it is a cute place, delivers huge portions and has thrived longer here than any other place that I've seen occupy this location. I felt the food all tasted pretty much the same for awhile, but I joined my family still most of the time because I wanted family time. I agree with the other reviews the gravy is awful. My mother also agrees and it seems to be a common thought. Let's just say you either will love it or hate it. I have always had good booth service here. Their bread is also delicious. They do well for the community with Children's Lunchbox and free Thanksgiving. So why do they get 1 star? Food that to me all starts to taste the same and is no longer enjoyable to eat. My last interaction at this establishment I had ordered the daily special to go. The waitress working was friendly and helpful as usual. The cooks however were talking loudly about vulgar and sexual things. Things that don't belong in a work place let alone a family restaurant. I got home and the order was wrong. Not the special, not even close. So I contacted Kriner's and explained the error and while I was at it I voiced my concern about the filthy language of their cooking staff. I was told the chef was mistaken with the special and that was that and that was my last visit. read more

It's just not my vibe. It was pretty dead in there, which is typically not a good sign for a restaurant. I didn't enjoy my chicken fried steak. The gravy is meh. They do give you a TON of food I will say so if you're mad hungry this may be your place. The music coming from the kitchen was too loud in my opinion. Not sure I want to hear death metal as I try to eat my meal peacefully. The service was kind and attentive. Hubby said omelet was good and said his shake was ok, "not the best, not the worst." Also there is a weird smell in this place and it was a turn off for me sadly. The menu not enough selection or variety just kinda boring. There is little to discern it from a Denny's or a Village Inn. If someone took you here and you didn't know any better...you'd think it was a national chain that buys everything from a SYSCO truck. If you're looking for a more unique, locally-owned spot for breakfast, I'd recommend: Snow City Café, Biscuitclub, Middle Way Café, Southside Grill, Waffle Rush, or Waffles and Whatnot. In my previous review, I acknowledged the politics of this place, and how they aren't a problem for me. I'm a live and let live person most of the time. However, this business has since aggressively fought with their own community, promoted conspiracy theories, and pandered to insurrectionists. Food - B+ A+ for the pancakes though. Seriously awesome pancakes. Whatever breakfast you go with, make sure to add a pancake. No seriously...truly different and delicious pancakes. All that said...the Hash-- could have used a little more corned beef. It was delicious, but the corned beef was hard to find in the mix of the hash. It's a busy place so the two doors open and close quite regularly. This can mean a little draft get going. There's not really a place (that I saw) where you can really avoid that. The hash browns were previously frozen shredded potatoes, the sausage patty was undercooked, the eggs more runny than medium as requests. What a great spot. I've seen Kriner's on YouTube, that's basically the extent of my knowledge. Have some local friends who love it and decided to stop by for a famous cinnamon roll while driving my aunt from Texas around town. The cinnamon rolls was amazing. I'll be honest after eating round rock donuts in Texas (giant donut) I figured the huge cinnamon roll would be the same. Okay tasting but really fun because it was big.
