Farm to Plate is an incredible event hosted by the Sustainable Food Center. 30 area…read morechefs/restaurants provide delicious bites. Guests stroll the gorgeous grounds of Barr Mansion while enjoying live music, nibbling on locally sourced cuisine and sipping adult beverages. This year it was great seeing so many local beverages provided by Argus Cidery, Glazers, Hops & Grain, Independence Brewing Co., Saint Arnold Brewing Company, Tipsy Texan, and Zhi Tea. From savory to sweet the chefs prepared creative cuisine to share with guests. The portions are small enough to sample many of what the restaurants are serving yet large enough that one's appetite is satisfied as the event comes to an end. Some of my favorites dishes were: Italic - walnut olive oil cake with mascarpone and blackberry. I loved that this dessert was more savory vs sweet. Lick Ice Cream - Roasted beet & mint Ice cream with honey cream, goat cheese and chocolate waffle. Delysia Chocolate - Raspberry truffle; potato, smoked cheese, bacon and chive truffle. I don't know how chocolatier Nicole Pitel comes up with these flavors but she's a genius! The Bribery Bakery - strawberry lime brown butter blondie. This was my first time trying Jodi Elliot's sweets and I was incredibly impressed. Eden East - Hay smoked red fish with pickled garlic chip, lemon confit, dill kennebec potato pancake and crispy fish skin. Bonneville - savory Korean style braised lamb steamed buns. The company I work for purchases a table to this event every year through a co-op partner as they believe in SFC's mission and services they provide our community. SFC empowers adults and children to grow their own food by providing education and resources. Their nationally recognized Happy Kitchen program is a cooking and nutrition education program that helps grows skills in food selection and preparation. SFC also has a Farm Direct program which brings together local growers, schools, urban residents, and institutional food service operations worksites in demand of fresh produce through weekly SFC Farmers' Markets and direct marketing projects, such as farm-to-cafeteria, farm-to-school, and farm-to-work. Events like the Farm to Plate put money back into this wonderful organization.

You ran after the ice cream truck with your coins in hand to pay to get a snow cone (my favorite flavor was the strawberry flavoring), popsicle (the orange dream popsicle was a total dream and the push up orange popsicle was even better), ice cream sandwich or something cold to eat. A bonus would be get a a red, white and blue bullet popsicle and turn your tongue multi-colors. Those were days! As a child, if you heard the faint ringing of the ice cream truck when they were exiting the neighborhood, you ran like Gabby Thomas does today to purchase your sweet treat. I remember that so vividly...such fond memories. Odd Pop is the equivalent of the ice cream truck except they drive straight to your business or event (weddings, gender reveals, birthday parties, and anniversaries). Today, my hubby and I had the pleasure of having three popsicles (lemon Thai basil, strawberry mango and Elderflower Lime) and they were all delicious and so soothing to eat. We really enjoyed that they were fruit based and not eye squinting sweet. Today we had 95 degree weather that feels 150 degrees. It is no doubt that Odd Pop will be doing big business in the Austin area.

Mom had tried…read moresome Indomie noodles, which I got from H Mart a while back, and liked it, so I hoped I might find some here. There were no Indomie noodles here, but I found some other items to buy instead. Here is what I bought: one rice pudding mix (Falak brand), which I hope to put pistachios on top of, two Turkish candy cones (one for me, and one for mom), and a bag of Turkish gummies (Yumy Yumy). I had never seen Turkish gummies before, although Haribo makes some of their gummies in Turkey, but that is different. After I paid, my eyes were caught by a mysterious dessert item on the counter, which had red and green dots, which reminded me of a Christmas fruitcake. The man at the register gave me one for free; he told me it was Ladoo. I ate it, once I got home; not bad, but a bit crumbly.

THE BLACK AND WHITE: When I say Vietnamese-style, it's only because most of the internal signage is in vietnamese. It has every asian countries ingredients from China/Korea/Vietnam to The Philippines and indonesia. You can find some really good pricing here on those staples. Fresh produce aisle is a bit limiting. Pretty big seafood area and meat. Walking to your far left side are all the kitchen toolware if you want to level up your kitchen game. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Always enjoy my time here at MT supermarket. Lots of ingredients you won't find at a 99 Ranch or H Mart.

My favorite market. They even have alcohol, dishes, candles, other houseware supplies, and some basic American products. Prices area generally competitive, some much better than others. My main complaint is that it can be overwhelming, especially when you're trying to find one specific thing. The other issue is that so many items have mislabeled prices or none at all. This can be challenging when you're trying to stay in budget while faced with more options that you can imagine. Also, fresh prepared items don't necessarily have their ingredients listed which can be scary for less adventurous eaters. The store is generally easy to navigate even through some cluttered set ups.
