If you are looking for authentic Mexican snacks on the East Side, this is the right place. Bring your appetite and your patience because English may not be the first language of the person taking your order. (Google translate and pointing to the photo are your friend) Not to worry, they will take good care of you. My favorite item is the Mangonada fully prepared with fresh mango chunks, chamoy, chili powder and a Tamarindo candy straw! On a hot day it hits the spot and the fresh fruit almost makes it guilt free. The staff are patient (because the menu is extensive) and friendly. Insider Tip: Walk to the back of the store. The line forms there. Order your food and walk to the register to pay. They will call your name. Take a seat in the spacious seating area while you anxiously await your delicious treats.

Went here on my daughters recommendation. The Tortas are very good and the price is good. The sandwiches are full and layered. Bread is cooked just right. It was very filling.

I'm no expert on Mexican desserts or botanas but 5 stars for the well-lit and clean interior space and the extensive selection of paletas. Big hit with my daughter and in a pretty central location to boot.

Okay, so I may have been a bit overwhelmed but the OPTIONS! Wow, they have popsicles, ice cream, toppings, nachos, fruit, drinks, cakes, and so much more! The lady was very patient with me as I walked around looking at the options and preparing to select my bad decision (I knew I wasn't getting regular fruit with all of these options in my face ). I made my own milkshake with cheesecake ice cream and strawberries and cream ice cream. Talk about delicious! I'm glad I'm just finding this place as I would have gained 5 pounds between yesterday and today. I could type for days but I'd rather finish my shake.

I happened to order a 3 tier cake since the previous year I ordered one from there and it was a big hit. Well not this year. The cake was way over moist that the support stand started to slant during the transport. The bottom tier broke causing the top 2 tiers to slide out and begin to crack. Luckily we were able to salvage the top 2 tiers. $220 dollars for a broken cake. My daughters bday was near ruined. I called them to explain the situation and they tried to blame it on me.

Mangoneada, with a scoop of "pepino con chile" (cucumber with chile")....I was sad when it was gone.

Yay for Tasty Snacks! I've been here twice so far. The service is polite, and they let you taste the different flavors. I'm excited to find frosty goodness so near my work as the weather warms up. They also serve nachos and elotes! I tried their mocha très léchés cake last time! Delicious! Today, I brought my picky wife, and she loved the pepino con chile flavor of their fruit-ice.

The Pecan Joy is my new favorite! Texas pecans alongside toasted coconut and dark chocolate flakes in a creamy coconut base. The scoops are very very tiny for the price, but it was a great little treat. I also loved tasting the Texas Sheet Cake: their interpretation of this classic cake combines a swirl of decadent chocolate-pecan icing with delicate chocolate ice cream, but it was just too rich for me. They are always clean, cozy, with friendly staff who don't mind if you need to sample multiple flavors before making a decision. Speaking of the flavors, they're pretty unique, rotate out, and there's usually two vegan options to choose from, so it's great if you are out with a group of mixed diets. It's a little pricey, but you'll get higher end ingredients than at a smaller ice cream shop. For the vegan flavors, Chocolate Chocolate is pretty solid, but I prefer the Pecan Joy when it's available. The Grapefruit Paloma has a boozy kick that is delightful as well. I'm told the Texas Sheet Cake is really good and so is their Caramel Salt Lick.

A milestone. A monument. A celebration of a man whose legend looms over Austin like a slightly tipsy bat. Nate Gardog & Co bravely ordered what was advertised as an Oreo cake meant to serve 4-5 humans. What arrived, however, was not a cake. It was not even a mini-cake. It was... a cupcake wearing platform shoes. A baked good masquerading as something it clearly was not. The bag was on us, literally and spiritually. Shane--who, need I remind you, is an Austin icon, a man whose culinary preferences are practically carved into the walls of Barton Springs--was forced to confront this fraudulent pastry. And let me tell you: no man deserves this. Not at 38. Not ever. If the staff at Amy's were the true clairvoyants we believed them to be, they would have inherently known Shane's one, true, universal flavor: Funfetti. Classic. Chaotic. Confetti for the soul. Yet here we stood. Funfetti-less. Candle-less. Hope-less. As the final insult, there were no candles. Not even a sad, melted tea light from the back. Nothing to blow out except disappointment. In conclusion: the vibes were off, the cake was tiny, and Shane--our dear, beloved Shane--deserved better.

Located on 6th Street, Jim Jim's is surprisingly accessible with parking spots available out front and just around the corner. It's not a sitdown place so keep that in mind for your stop, but the line does move fast and they are very efficient. There's a good variety of flavors and things they serve from italian ice to ice cream and shakes. We opted for a strawberry italian ice with condensed milk on top. From the first bite we were in heaven. The flavor is very thorough which is not always the case for Italian ices where it can sometimes be a bit muted. Every single bite of this was packed with flavor. They also carve out a bit of the middle to put the condensed milk which makes every bite much more equal than if it was just placed at the top. This was by far one of, if not the best, Italian ices we've ever had. We would very much recommend it to anyone in the Downtown area looking to cool off.
