Andy Lutz was the arborist that came to check my tree. Andy explained everything about my tree. He wasn't pushy;wasn't trying to sell any plans. I wanted to do something to keep the tree healthy...we talked about an application needed once a year. Andy said he'd send a proposal and that I should look it over. Didn't ask for money or a signature. Very very polite. I highly recommend Kramer Tree Specialists. Sally Ryan read more

Excellent work and very professional! They have been pruning, fertilizing and removing any dead trees for me over several years. read more

My 100-plus year-old locust tree, a centerpiece of my front yard, looks the best it's ever looked after Kramer's team came out with a machine to lift their arborist into its crown and trim it up off my roof and away from two neighboring roofs. This was not easy because our lots have no sideyards in which to maneuver, and my parkway and the tree's understory are planted with gardens. They took care in both the cutting and clean-up to leave it all intact, and the tree looks beautiful. My experience with another firm three years ago was such a disaster--broken limbs on an understory dogwood and barren limbs on the locust--that I feared the worst. I told Kramer the look I wanted and my concerns, and they delivered the best. I did need to wait several months to get on their schedule. I didn't get other estimates because my conversations with arborists led me to Kramer as my best choice. I thought the price was good value for their time and the result. read more

waiting all day for man to come to do estimate, we called and texted; finally he sent back message about tire issue. Totally unprofessional, do not recommend read more

Kramer did a very excellent job removing four dead trees. The work was professionally done The workers were great and cleaned up when finished. The willow was near power lines and Kramer had to coordinate with ComEd. The power was off for less than two hours. They also do a great job treating my ash trees and a burr oak tree. read more

I have used Kramer for many years now. They have taken down trees, pruned existing trees and also been treating an oak for chlorosis. So they have done it all for me. Any interaction with Kramer whether with Betsy in the office, Matt giving me an estimate, or with Phil who is trimming up a tree - in all cases they have been the utmost professionals. I actively recommend them to friends and neighbors. I find their pricing to be fair and the cleanup after the work is done is amazing. The employees are passionate no matter what their task is. Kramer is now in the second generation and has as much attention to detail as when Joe was running it. Hire them with confidence. They have been at it for decades and will exceed your expectations every single time. Scott B. read more

Talk about an amazing group of workers! We were so impressed with the entire crew and their professionalism. We had them take down a giant maple in our side yard- and with how big the tree was we totally expected the gardens to be ruined or at least disturbed- but no! As they cut down each section it was amazing to see how careful they were. And after it was all done the clean up was awesome. Would highly recommend this company for any tree needs! read more

I have used Kramer for two 1/2 years and they do great work. They fertilize, spray the Crabapples and have removed two dead trees for me. I highly recommend them. read more

I had to chase down our arborist a month after I sent back the signed proposal. The person who trimmed our tree left dead wood at the top that is unsightly even after we asked him to trim it again. Emailed the arborist that there was still dead wood and got the noncommittal response of " We'll take a look". Meanwhile the invoice arrives. I am not very impressed by this company's services. read more

We had a huge Cottonwood tree at the back of a city lot with no alley, the tree was also surrounded by power lines, so it was a complex project. KTS gave us a competitive price and did the work really well, including lots of complex coordination with ComEd which wasn't easy. Their team was quick and professional. Would highly recommend them for any tree service job. read more

Last fall got quote from Kramer (KTS) to trim two large trees. We got two other much higher quotes from other local companies. My husband had the thought that the city could trim most of two trees b/c branches were near electrical wires. Although City of Geneva does act quickly to trim branches near electrical wires. any extensive trimming of trees (even one on city parkway) turned out to be untrue. This summer we bit the bullet and spent the money to have KTS trim Linden and Bradford Pear trees. Landscaping adds a lot to the value of your home. So we consider hiring Kramer experts to work their arboreal magic, a wise investment in our property. Glad to know price up front. In writing. Excellent dealings with office staff via email and phone. (Remarkable how many businesses don't get that person who answers their phone can make or break a sale. Kramer GETS it.) Tim the sales rep was fabulous. Worker bee guys who climbed, sawed and snipped were pleasant, knowledgeable, efficient yet thorough. Hard-workers! Recommend highly. I feel at this point I've had every emotion when it comes to my trees, and the people from Kramer have been there every step of the way with knowledge and compassion. Matt came out to assess my trees with good and bad news, the whole time teaching me about the trees on my land and formulating a plan to help me avoid losing any more trees. The foreman that came out to remove a few dead/dying trees cried along side me when I said goodbye to my giant old oak and carefully saved me a bit of its trunk for a dining table. Today Pierre is here to fertilize 25 of my big hardwoods and he walked the property with me, helped me identify a few varieties and what I can do to help them (did you know a broadleaf herbicide can kill an oak?). I am so appreciative of the education and compassion I have received with Kramer, Worth every penny. read more

Kramer has been treating my magnolia for scale, and it's improving. I just had them trim the magnolia and they did a great job. They also pruned and shaped my flowering crab and did exactly what it needed. They cleaned everything up completely - I'll definitely use Kramer again. read more

KTS was easy to work with from the appointment, quote, scheduling, work. Kramer Tree Spec. sent an arborist out to my property to quote a tree pruning. We discussed the tree in question at length and some other trees as well. She really knows her stuff. The pruners came out to do the job and they were very polite and friendly, but I think they cut a bit too much off in certain areas because the tree looks bare in some spots. Overall, it's ok. read more

Very responsive and competitively priced. Communicated when they would be there, arrived on time and did a great job! I would definitely use Kramer Tree Specialists again in the future. read more

If there was a ZERO rating that I could've selected, I would have. Probably the worst company in Chicago I've ever dealt with! Incredibly unprofessional and quality of service even worse. If you need any type of tree service, I strongly encourage you to NEVER spend one penny with this terrible company. Tree specialist???? No, terrible quality specialists!!!! read more

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND USING THEIR SERVICES. I needed a tree removed from my backyard after part of it split and fell into my neighbor's yard. The lack of communication throughout the process was very frustrating, as I was never told me what day they were coming to cut down and remove the tree. Then it was over a month before they came back to grind the stump, again with no communication from the sales guy that they were coming. The guy that ground the stump was careless and cut the cable/internet lines to my house, even though the ground was clearly marked and there were flags all over my yard showing where all the buried utilities were. Overall, the communication was not great and the employees were not careful when doing the work. read more

I would watch out for these guys. We need two big trees removed and as I was riding along on the prairie path today I saw on of their trucks pull in front of me. I thought hey, I need to call tree removal companies today and there one is. Then it stopped and blocked the entire crosswalk and parked while waiting for a train to go through, he easily could have stopped 8 ft. back and not done so. I called out "hey, you are blocking the crosswalk," and the guy starting yelling insults and profanity at me while in his company truck no less. Guess who will tell everyone I know to avoid Kramer Tree service. Would you want that guy on your property? read more

Had some major work done, Ash tree removal because of the Emerald Ash issue (sad, beautiful tree). A pine that had gotten gypsy moth. Several others trimmed and the removed trees stumped. Great right from the beginning. Frank Saupp worked with us on estimates and options. Scheduled the work during the winter whenever they could work it in for a reduction. Everything was cleaned up wonderfully and ready for us to re mulch and replant where we need. We have used them for many years and have been quite happy. Highly recommend read more

I looked on Angie's list and Yelp and picked Kramer Tree to cut down my trees. I just had Kramer Tree come out and cut down 3 very large ash trees, a mulberry that was split in several places and a maple. My experience was very positive. An arborist, Seth, came out and agreed that the tree that mulberry that was split needed to come down and that the ash trees had the ash borer and it was only a matter of time before they would succumb. He sent a proposal via email that had a clear drawing of the property of which trees needed to be cut down where as everyone else just listed the trees in a list. I took advantage of the winter discount, (If you have work done between December 1 and March 1, they give you a discount as they are less busy). I asked the office manager for proof of liability insurance and they sent it over. The price was in line with what other tree companies were charging so it seemed reasonable. They brought out 4 guys in two big trucks. On guy operated the lift and did the cutting and other three cleaned up the fallen branches. It was very efficient. I asked if they could cut and leave some of the wood for my fireplace and they asked how much do I want. I asked for just wood over 6 inches in diameter but less than 10 inches and that is what I got, including them putting together next to my existing wood pile. They cut most of it into 18-36 inch sizes. They cleaned up almost all of the fallen branches with rakes. The guys they sent out were all pleasant to work with. They knocked on my neighbor's doors to let them know they only here for my trees and not theirs so as not be alarmed. I did recommend them to my neighbor and would call them back again. read more

I spoke with Kramer for an estimate and tree trimming. I left the time open, but they didn't come during the time when I would receive the "winter discount" other arborists offer. I chose Kramer on the recommendation of a friend, who did warn me they are pricey. My quote was for three tree trims, $933, 28 day terms. I was taken completely by surprise to receive TWO letters this week, the second one said "We've tried to contact you numerous times, through emails and phone calls" when I haven't been contacted by them at all, except for the first letter. The second letter says two tree trims, 20 day terms. And there was a $20 service charge tacked on. Disappointing experience. read more

Have used KTS for 16 years and have always been very happy with their work. Kind of pricey, but I think you get what you pay for. Could get the work done cheaper, but I doubt those that gave me cheaper quotes are insured. Our trees are very big and trimming them involves equipment and climbing, which presents a bit of danger. I'd rather go with a company that is insured and perhaps save money in the long run. KTS is quick, careful, and clean - highly recommended. read more

We came here to drop off a trailer of brush from our yard. The hospitality left a lot to be desired. We had to pay $40 to do all the work ourselves. They had tons of equipment everywhere, yet the guy wouldn't do anything. I read the reviews before going there about how great the people are but I would beg to differ. I'm not exactly sure what we paid $40 for considering they take our stuff to process and sell to make a profit for themselves. I would not recommend these folks if you need a place to dump your brush off. read more

I have had Kramer trim our trees for 15 years and have been very happy with their professionalism. However, apparently the side of their business that treats diseased trees is managed by another individual. Horrible management. We have a lovely crab apple tree that we arranged to have treated this year for apple scab. They claim they "sent" a proposal by email but did not. I have all prior proposals on email over many years but NONE for this year. Instead of apologizing for forgetting to contact me they simply argued that that is the way they do things. Needless to say, I have now changed to another company recommended by the Arboretum and will no longer be doing business with Kramer. Too bad that after 15 years, they so no need to manage their customer service better. read more

I have used Kramer Trees for many years and always felt that the quote well represented the work that was to be done. This time I was quoted that a tree with a disease issue would be "pruned" and after each clip the tool would be sterilized. To my surprise, only one branch was removed which, if I had known that was all they were going to do, I could have done myself. I felt the quote was misrepresentative and that I had been taken for $275.00. I am to receive a partial refund of about $85.00, but never heard a word from management. So disappointed in how this was handled from start to end. Needless to say, I no longer have trust in their quotes and will not be a repeat customer anymore. read more

Fantastic customer service at a reasonable price! During a wind storm a few weeks ago our beautiful 20 foot tall Colorado Spruce was blown over. This was planted 16 years ago and was a perfect specimen. Everyone said it was the perfect Xmas tree and we loved it! This was so sad and my 16 year old kids were also very saddened and disappointed. This was our Xmas card back drop this year. After all it was only 8 feet tall when planted. I called Kramer Tree Specialists in a bit if a panic and the lady whom I cannt remember her name unfortuanately was reassuring, compassionate and friendly, all which doesn't seem to be common place anymore. I had hoped since the soil was so wet from our usually warm winter rain it might be able to be put back into place. Enter Matt the tree expert at Kramer. He was swapped with down tree calls as he said he had had 20 already just that day. I think he could feel the passion our family had for this tree in my voice and he came out to look at it that day! In the end the tree was a lost cause however he was able to assists me with expert replacement tree recommendations for the climate we live in. Earlier this winter I had to also remove our Ash Tree due to the beetle which was also planted 16 years ago and was an awesome patio shad tree. If that wasn't bad enough we also had a pine which was diseased and needed to be removed. We went from three beautiful trees and a serine backyard to a naked one. With his recommendations I will be plant three new trees which will be disease and bug resistant along with being fast growing. I will be using Kramer for all of their tree care services for life. I would not reccomend Kramer Tree Service for multi housing developements. They severely pruned our older established trees to the point that there are no branches and limbs on the trees. They have pruned the our trees to the extent that the only limbs left on the trees are above the roofs with very few branches. The trees don't look like trees but like feather dusters. The trees are in poor shape since they have been pruning them and limbs blow off the trees when a good wind comes along. They have gutted flowering trees leaving only a shell of branches on the outside and nothing on the inside of the tree to flower. Kramer promotes that all of the people pruning are certified arborists and when asked if they were, they said they weren't . I would highly reccomond getting another tree service than using them. read more

We had a corkscrew willow located in the back of our yard. The tree had a diameter of more than 6' and a height close to 30'. Over the 25 years we had the tree, the heartwood had begun to rot and the bark was separating from the cambium layer. An email to the Morton Arboretum's Plant Clinic indicated it was time to bring it down. We had experience with several local tree removal companies in DuPage County, but this was a unique job for the following reasons: we have a concrete driveway, a garage and a garden right next to the willow that called for extra caution. At the opposite end of the driveway is a 20' spruce that had low hanging branches that could easily be damaged by the large trucks needed for the job. We decided to contact Kramer Tree Specialists to handle this job and we are so grateful we did. An arborist from Kramer came out quickly after our initial call to inspect the tree and emailed a quote as well as provided a hard copy. On the day of the tree removal, we received a call reminding us that the crew would arrive by 8:00 a.m. A three-man crew including Rob, Jason, and Seth were right on time and inspected the property. They made the decision not to bring down the truck to avoid any possible damage to the spruce which meant they would have to do everything manually. Rob and Jason are experienced climbers and their teamwork, timing, spotting, and communication was nothing short of remarkable. Their rope work in the tree canopy that supported Rob and brought down the segments of tree was masterful. Seth had to drag and haul huge sections of the canopy down our long driveway out to the street which he did very cautiously. As they neared the end of the project, I asked if they could provide two slices of the trunk for us to keep and they did so willingly. The final cleanup on our property and our street left no hint that we just had a large tree removed. Kramer Tree Specialists is indeed as "good as it gets" when it comes to professional tree removal. We will definitely be hiring them again later this year for additional work on our property. read more

an employee of Kramer Tree Service damaged my truck while grinding out a stump near the parking lot where I work. the stump was less than five feet from where I was parked and the grinding machine sprayed the ground-up wood chips, mud, and small rocks against the side, hood and windshield of my truck. this caused multiple small scratches, not to mention, a mess on the side of my truck. when I confronted the employee he called the owner and I heard him tell him he had indeed sprayed this stuff all over the truck. the owner then spoke to me and said he would come to my workplace the next day to inspect the damage. I never heard from him again so I spent the next weekend buffing all the scratches out myself. if this company will not follow up an something the owner promises, imagine what they must be like to have working around your home. call another tree service when you need work done read more
