I've had everything from bleached and colored hair to vivid colors with her, and her work is always incredible. She really knows color, especially vivid color, and you can tell she takes the health of the hair seriously too. She's also one of the few stylists I trust with my haircuts. Her men's cuts and scissor-over-comb work are excellent, and she is extremely particular about the details. I know she only takes certain men's haircut clients by referral, so I genuinely appreciate being part of her clientele. Beyond the talent, Tina is just a kind, understanding person who makes you feel comfortable in her chair. She listens, she takes her time, and she cares about the people she works with. Trendsetter has been a great salon to come to over the years, and I would absolutely recommend Tina, especially if you're looking for someone who really understands creative color.

ROBIN, if talking over me and hanging up on me is what you consider resolving my concerns, then I…read morestrongly disagree. I found that response extremely unprofessional. During our brief phone discussion I was trying to get your attention so I could just finish what I was trying to tell you, as you repeatedly talked over me. I SAID Robin Robin, only twice, and you angrily said "STOP saying my name!". At that point I didn't know how to address you, and I was shocked that you would say something like that to me. My concerns have NOT been resolved. I paid approximately $330 and I am still left with hair that is nothing close to what I asked for. The heavily layered, easy-to-maintain shag I showed in photographs is not what I received, not even close. I specifically explained that I needed something I could style easily DUE TO MY MEDICAL CONDITIONS. Instead, styling my hair now takes considerably more effort then it did before, and I still cannot get it to look anything like the style I requested. The color is also not what I requested. My goal was to transition toward my natural gray/white so that I would not have to continue dealing with obvious roots. My hair still appears golden blonde, and the change is so subtle that people who know me have not even noticed that I had my hair done. You also brought up the salon's video footage and the fact that I was smiling when I left. A customer smiling while leaving a business is not evidence that she is satisfied with the service she received. I smiled because that is how I conduct myself in public, and I started crying when I got to my car. I don't understand why my facial expression on surveillance footage would even be raised as a response to my concerns about the actual haircut and color. I returned, NOT multiple times, but once after the original process, because I was unhappy and gave the salon an opportunity to correct the haircut. I am still unhappy with it. And the attitude that I received because I was unhappy with this process made me feel like I had done something wrong. That is NOT a resolution. I could've gotten this exact same color result from a box. I have been very specific and consistent about what is wrong. I am not asking anyone to agree with me about whether my hair should look good. I am the customer who has to live with it, style it and paid for it. It is not what I requested. What disappoints me most is the unwillingness to simply acknowledge that a customer can leave genuinely dissatisfied despite the salon's efforts. Sometimes a service does not turn out the way a client requested. A professional response to that should not be to talk over the customer, make the customer feel bad, hang up on her, point to footage of her smiling, and then publicly declare that everything reasonable has been done. I am left with a $330 service, and I am elderly, on a fixed income, that did not give me the haircut, color, or low-maintenance result I requested. That is why I remain dissatisfied, and that is why I do not consider this matter resolved. The fact that you have rallied people to start posting about Tina Chavez shows how unprofessional this salon is. A good salon would never have to go to that extreme, a professional salon would've made sure that I was happy with what I got, not hang up on me and declare this situation resolved when it is absolutely not resolved! I have never seen a salon or a professional business treat their paying customer this way. Anyone who is going to this salon should be extremely careful, because if you are not satisfied this is how you are going to be treated, especially elderly people. This is shameful. I am extremely upset about this and it seems that this salon cares nothing about that. All I want is my money back so I can go somewhere and get this redone. Good work does not need defending by trying to drown out a customer's negative experience with positive ones. I am honestly shocked that Trendsetter Salon would encourage people to come on here and post their good experiences as though that somehow disproves mine. It doesn't. Other customers having good experiences does not mean that a mistake cannot be made or that another customer cannot be treated poorly. This should not be about defending Tina Chavez's ego or reputation. It should be about how a customer was treated when she said she was unhappy. And now watching the salon respond enthusiastically to positive comments while my actual complaint remains unresolved only reinforces my concerns. I have never claimed that nobody has ever received good work at Trendsetter Salon. My point is that I did not have a good experience, and my experience matters too. A professional business should be able to acknowledge and address an unhappy customer's experience without turning it into a popularity contest.

Where do i start? So.. i got referred to this place by a friend of mine, I contacted the owner…read more(lisa) and i book an appointment for 9am, i get there, after we have negotiated price and everything. She starts to braid me, and if i tell you to trust your intuition; they felt scanty, and very amateurish... anyways i sit, thinking to myself; i trust that she's going to do a good job; if i tell you that it wasn't even an hr into the session when she was almost done with my back area and i have very thick kinky hair. Thats when i decided to check what's going on, first off; she acted all defensive, talking about; I don't trust her, i just requested for a mirror and still couldn't see, so i asked her to take a picture.. mind you all this time, she was getting offended, (when i saw the mess she called braids, it was much worse than I anticipated. It was a mess; wasn't parted right, wasn't uniform, she squeezed a big bunch of my hair into a small braid everytime she started, wasn't even at all. This was by far, the worst anyone has ever braided me, top it all she had the audacity to say to me that it'll look better when she is done. If i tell you she was so eager to get a quick 150$(quick because at the rate she was braiding, she was going to be done in three hrs tops) ive never met a business owner who is so eager for a quick buck, has zero customer satisfaction, oh God, i could go on but all i can tell you is don't go, she doesn't care whether you will never come back, or write a bad review, she just wants her quick buck that day.

I thought Lisa was professional but she fooled me on my last visit. I've only gone to her 3 times…read moreand took my daughter 2 times. Hoping there would be improvement as we establish a rapport. She was argumentative, told me she had another client she could have seen, and no one else complained about the way she hooks her twists, and that she knew this was going to happen. We had already discussed my expectations prior to my arrival. I told her I would allow her to perform the job but make it consistent and don't use the one strand method because this is where her carelessness lye. I told her to do two strand rope twist, she explained, she couldn't do it. I begged her to show me how she hooked. We went back and forward about the inconsistency of her work, then she told me she would try it, did it just fine to a point. She had parted my hair unevenly and breath hard when I asked her to correct it. I again asked her to show me her process. She ignored me, got on the phone, turned off the light, and yelled at her son. I told her, don't do that and allow me to pay with the lights on. When I got home, I noticed she hooked some the way I asked and some, her regular way. So, I called and told her about it, she said, she did what I asked. Not! My hair looks like two different people did it. Frizzy, all my hair isn't in the twists, it's lifted at the base like a bad weave and I'm wearing individuals.

Most passive aggressive manicure ever. I called this place around 4:40, knowing they closed at 5:30…read moreto ASK if they would have time for a gel pedicure and a full Gel-X set. I would've completely understood if they said no, but the guy told me yes. Great! I arrived literally a couple minutes later, and a really sweet lady started on my pedicure which was great, and she's the only reason I gave the place 2 stars instead of 1. Then another nice lady started removing my old Gel-X. I asked the two ladies again if they were sure they had time for the full Gel-X set, because part of me was considering just doing a basic gel manicure after getting my old Gel-X removed, just to be out of there quicker. They both assured me that YES, they had time for the full set. I thought, that's really nice of them--I'll tip well. Well apparently a third nail tech, who was working on someone else's manicure, would be the one to do my Gel-X set, but needed to finish up with her current client. Once she did, she came over, visibly frustrated that she had to do another service. I understood she was probably tired, so I gave her the benefit of the doubt and showed her nothing but politeness the entire time. What was not okay was her overall demeanor and how poor of a manicure she gave me--I'm still a paying customer and I would've tipped her extra had she provided better quality service. First off, she had no patience for my Erb's Palsy in my right arm that has very little range of motion (i.e. can't turn my hand over on its own without using my other hand to force it, and can't bend my arm back far at all without my elbow sticking out in a weird way) because it made it difficult to hold my finger directly under the little overhead UV lamp she set up. Pretty much every manicurist I've ever had has not had a problem with my condition and it has not slowed down their speed of service in any way. It just caused a minor inconvenience for her because she couldn't force my hand to be at the perfect angle, which only added to her frustration. Aside from that, she filed my nails so quickly and carelessly after she got the Gel-X on. I had to ask her to soften the corners of the nails (square shape) so they weren't so sharp, because obviously she had no intention of doing that, and she sort of quickly filed the corners for a couple seconds each, still leaving them sharp and shaped almost like those ugly duck nails from 2010. Then I had to ask her to please cut away some of the dead skin on my cuticles because she had no intention of cleaning them up at all either. She didn't say yes or no, just stayed silent and pissed off and cut away at like 4 of my dead cuticles, and they still looked like shit. She didn't bother putting a base coat under the color gel polish, and I have little bubbles on one of the nails where the powder debris from her drilling the Gel-X nails got trapped under the polish. Not even some lotion on my hands after they sat in freakin acetone for like 15 minutes earlier during the Gel-X removal, and never asked me to wash my hands. Just wanted me the f out of there. The way I can describe her overall energy was like you could practically hear her cussing me out in her head. Here's the thing--next time you're going to be pissed off about a client being in the salon past closing time, simply say that you don't have time. Don't say yes--not once, but twice--and then punish the client with poor service and a bad attitude. It's not my fault the owner agreed take me in, nor was it in my control that the nail tech had to finish up with her client before getting started on my manicure. I could've just gone somewhere else nearby that closed later but had lower Yelp ratings and gotten the same quality of manicure but at least with better customer service.
