We have driven by this place for years, but never thought to go in, and I'm so glad we did. We had a great meal, friendly service, and the prices were pretty reasonable for what we got. They have a two person combination platter where you get to sample many of the favorite menu items, so my wife and I got that and everything was great. I'm allergic to seafood and she doesn't like lamb, so I took the two lamb chops and she got the shrimp off the platter, and everything else we shared. It was plenty of food for both of us and great because we got to try lots of different things. We will definitely want to come back here. read more

Quaint Greek restaurant with lovely decor but the food want what we had hoped it to be. Service was quick and professional. We had a small Greek Salad and Horiatiki. I asked for no tomatoes on the salad and it came with iceberg lettuce, crumbled Feta cheese and one kalamata olive. The horiatiki was a better salad. My wife had the S/S Kostas with shrimp and chicken. The shrimp was good but the chicken was dry. I had the Gyro plate. I didn't like it. The gyro meat had almost no flavor, wasn't seasoned and wasn't charred...like it wasn't sliced from a rotating spit. The side potatoes were lemony and good. If you're looking for authentic Greek food, Kostas is a must-try! A friend and I shared the combo platter, and it exceeded our expectations. Every single item was delicious. The lamb was incredibly tender, the shrimp and chicken were perfectly cooked, and the potatoes were honestly some of the best I've ever had. The hummus and tzatziki were fresh and flavorful, and the soup was absolutely amazing! The combo platter comes with an appetizer, a generous variety of meats and sides, and finishes with delicious baklava for dessert. Everything tasted fresh, homemade, and authentic. Being not all that hungry, I elected for the dips sampler. Unfortunately, they were out of taramas and were unable to serve taramosalata. So, I had tzatziki and melitzanosalata. For my taste, both could have used a little more garlic. The melitzanosalata is house-made, the eggplants oven roasted, not sta karvouna, but it was totally in line with my expectations. Also, there are as many ways to make tzatziki as there are households in Greece, but they put parsley and I think also dried oregano in it, which I feel is sort of over-egging the pudding. In any case, they were not stingy with the portions and the two-dip sampler with pleasantly warmed pita wedges was more than satisfying for one. I elected to sit outdoors, so can't comment much on the indoor ambience. Perhaps I will do it differently when I return tomorrow evening. They seem to have retained that old-school, white-napkin aspect of the restaurant experience, which is respectable even if I was not in a mood to appreciate it properly. Service was attentive without being annoying. The price rises rapidly once you get into the upper-tier dishes, so be warned. It is also probably a good sign when the people picking up take-out are speaking Greek. Part 2: Returned the following evening with a greater appetite. The Greek Combo is a fine little sampler, and probably shareable if you are planning on having dessert. The filling in the moussakas and also in the spanakopita was just a little too salty for me. The bechamel was spiced appropriately, with a little zing but not too nutmeggy. The pork was excellent, juicy with a slight bitter crunch from the grill. The shrimp were also in the zone. Tries out Kostas Restaurant in Plano as my first meal back in Dallas for the break. This restaurant gives nice yet homey vibes. They have been around since 1987 serving Greek food. We started with hummus dip containing garbanzo beans, tahini, and olive oil served with grilled pita bread. I loved the pita bread, it was soft and pillowy. The hummus, however, didn't really taste like the hummus I've tried elsewhere. It had a different taste that I didn't really recognize. I still ate it up though. I decided to get the moussaka platter. It's a casserole made with beef, eggplant, and bechamel sauce. It came with 2 sides and a choice of soup or salad. I decided to get the salad and it was really good and refreshing, especially with the balsamic glaze dressing that they had. The potato and green bean sides were whatever but the moussaka was sooo goood. The casserole itself was very crumbly and the beef and eggplant had so much flavor. I'm assuming it's from the bechamel sauce? I couldn't physically see it. But I really enjoyed this. Was recommended to dine here by a good friend. Unfortunately we were unable to give the restaurant or the food a chance, as when we pulled into the back of the establishment, we observed a staff member smoking marijuana with his uniform and gloves on. The overwhelming smell was the first strike and the fact that he had his apron and gloves on sealed the deal. We actually saw the employee go back into the restaurant, so there was no question about where he works. I called and told the man who answered the phone why we chose not to dine there, but he didn't seem at all concerned. Oh well, guess they are busy enough without our business. read more

I came here on a recommendation and had a fantastic meal and experience. The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff is very friendly. The first time I came, we had lamb and wow. The best I've ever had. We also ordered many other sides and extras to taste a variety of dishes. The next time we came we ordered to-go and had gyros. They are the best gyros I've had. Their tzatziki sauce is fresh and flavorful. They are now my go-to for gyros for sure. When I want to splurge on a nice night out I will be returning for the lamb. Fantastic! We live further north but needed a fast meal nearby while down in the area. They squeezed us in before the kitchen closed at 230pm and everyone's meals were incredibly delicious. Amazing find! This place is a whole vibe. I absolutely love the decor; it brings you to a different time and place. The menu has a great selection. Our service was great and everything we had was delicious. The dolmas were soooo good and the sauce around it was liquid gold. The eggplant dip was my favorite out of the dips, I ordered the Athenian Combo and all the protein items were cooked to perfection. This is a very traditional restaurant; you're coming here for the food! The desert was EVERYTHING and I'm so upset I don't remember what it was. It tasted like fall in a good way! I haven't been here for years. It's one of those outta sight, outta mind places that you just forget about. This location doesn't help. It's in a former 7 Eleven which you would never know unless you had visited the 7 Eleven before, which I had many times. Not too long after it was converted and opened as a greek restaurant I visited and had a good experience. Jump forward 30 years and time for another visit! I couldn't believe it when I walked in. We were seated in an empty restaurant(it was early) by a familiar-looking guy. Upon realizing he was my waiter from a decade ago, I was thrilled. He was helpful, engaging, and unobtrusive. The food is above average and the prices are great for this day and age. I'm not a huge Greek food fan so don't make many of these types of resturants. However, if you want greek in this area I cant recommend them highly enough. Major plus, white table cloths, and low light atmosphere! Go!!! read more

Food was a major FAIL. I ordered hummus to start, inedible. Sent it back. My husband usually liked their lamb chops, this time they were really undercooked. Since we already sent the hummus back, he ate them. I ordered the trout with the green beans and rice. The trout had no seasoning at all, the green beans n beans were mushy and slimy and the rice was bland and tasted like it was from yesterday and warmed up. I think perhaps I went to Kostas on an off day. My friends raved about this authentically Greek restaurant, so my husband and I went. The Avgolemono soup was delicious and the appetizers were very good. That was where we should have stopped. We got the meat sampler plate to share - all of their best chicken, shrimp, lamb chops, and other meats on one plate. Definitely enough to share. Unfortunately, every single meat item was overcooked and so dry they were hard to swallow. The manager/owner and servers were all super-friendly - I suppose we should have just sent the plate back, but we just enjoyed the soup and sides and left it at that. I hope the cook was just having a bad day. FYI - when you are making skewered meats, you have to make sure that all of the meats cook at the same temperature for the same amount of time. And there is a point where meat cooked over a flame is over-charred. read more

I had to get a proper gyro after my experience at another establishment earlier in the day. Kostas Greek Cafe did not disappoint. I ordered the Gyro sandwich, calamari and the avgolemono soup. The Gyro was on point, wonderful meat with the right amount of twatziki and onions, this could only be improved with a couple of wedges of tomato. The pita was warm. Closet I could find to the gyros at Greek Town Chicago. The calamari were lightly fried and came with a butter lemon mixture for dipping, so yummy. The Avgolemono soup was nice and creamy! Really anything on the menu is delicious, particularly grilled victuals here are top-notch. The décor and aesthetic are authentic to the proprietor's Greek heritage, making for a unique experience. The employees are typically quite friendly and helpful, occasionally they verge on being somewhat brutish, but overall service is excellent. I think a little pricier than what it's worth, our food came out to $24 I believe. One thing I didn't love was the tomatoes on the bottom, it made the bread a little soggy. We were there for our Fathers 87th birthday yet ALL staff; the 1 waiter and three runners were focused on a large table for another birthday. The food was cold, not good and service was terrible. We let the owner know on the way out and prior to finally receiving our food. Heard him tell the waiter "he's pissed" to which he replied 'I don't even care'. Told them both you should as you just lost our business. Used to go a couple times a month. This is the location in Plano. It's a nice spot away from everything else, so parking is easy, and there isn't a lot of traffic in the parking lot. The interior is nice, casual elegance I would say. A good spot for a celebration dinner, or just something different. Wait staff is efficient, friendly and accommodating. The gentleman who waited on us has been there for a long time now. The menu is extensive, and everything is either a Greek dish, or is a Greek version of something you may have had elsewhere. It is very solid, consistent, and of high quality. This night 4 of us dined. We ordered dolmas and Saganaki- fried Greek cheese served flaming table side. Both were delicious. For dinner there were two order of gyro plate combos, one Pork Tender Souvlaki and I had Horiatiki- a traditional Greek salad (no lettuce) and had them add grilled chicken. Everyone loved the food. I especially loved the Horiatiki, with Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Onions, Kalamata Olives, Lots of Feta Cheese & house Greek Dressing. I felt the prices were very reasonable for the quality of the experience and food. I would go back in a heartbeat. Not sure why we don't think of this place more often. read more

We came here thanks to craving Greek food and not having had it in a while. Though it was not very busy on a weekday night (we called to make reservations, but was told none was needed), service was on point. Our waiter was very attentive to us, but not overly. His recommendation was the lamb chops. However, everything looked great. Their fish selection was also very expansive. In the end, we tried the Athenian plate which included the souvlaki, broiled shrimp and lamb chops. This came with a side of vegetables. All were really flavorful and delicious. The shrimp was perfectly broiled, the lamb chops were cooked to perfection, and the souvlaki was cooked enough to where it was not dry. Price wise it is very reasonable. Quantity is also enough to fill you up on the main entrée. The potatoes were probably an area where I would want a few more pieces if possible, but no complaints. I also ordered a glass of wine which was priced better than in most restaurants. If you are craving Greek food, this is definitely a place to come check out. read more

It's kind of at an unassuming intersection. Never really crave Greek food, but someone suggested it. The inside is pretty dimly lit; I was expecting more a of bright lit diner style. Prices are pretty reasonable. $8 for sandwiches, $10+ for plates, nicer entrees for $15+. Got the gyro sandwich (tomatoes and onions), which came with some potatoes. Potatoes had an interesting sauce, which was fine. Maybe they could've added a few more potatoes. The whole thing was pretty satisfying. Service was pretty good. read more
