When we pulled up to the location, just the smell let us know that this was going to be a crazy meal. It's located inside the mall, with plenty of parking, but also plenty of walking. Inside, there's plenty of seats, and some of my favorite high-top tables. They have an extensive menu, but I ordered the lunch set, which comes with katsu, salad, and dipping sauce. The dipping sauce was a great touch, since it had a mini pestle and mortar to grind up the sesame seeds on your own! The katsu came out piping hot, and I loved the crunchiness of it. I personally thought the servings are a bit small, so I'd recommend a side dish or something. The service was great, and they even offered multiple refills of the cabbage, which I greatly appreciated. Overall the perfect spot for a quick lunch!! read more

Kushi-katsu gets real expensive real fast...but Koromo has lunch specials and a 20% off happy hour. I'm a sucker for a lunch special AND stick food, of course I had to try it. We came for happy hour a while ago and again more recently for lunch. Staff are attentive and efficient and the restaurant is neat and clean. Gf got the katsu curry lunch special with 2 fried oysters and a chicken cutlet. The curry was fine, it was a classic Japanese curry sauce kinda similar to curry house. The oyster was gross and super briney though...maybe opt for the shrimp instead. I got the kushi lunch set, which was 6 sticks and rice. Everything was pretty good! The chicken and green onion stick was my fav of them. Portion isn't huge ofc but I was still pretty full. Also both sets come with refillable shredded cabbage salad, which is a nice fresh side to the fried foods. It was about $35 before tip for the two of us, including a $1.95 upgrade for short rib Kushi-katsu. read more

We've been tp Koromo a few times now, and it has been consistently on point with the katsu. Hubs ordered the teishoku pork tenderloin, and I went with the pork loin lunch special, which is smaller than the teishoku version. Service was good, water filled and check in's were at the appropriate time of the meal. The cabbage salad that comes with the meal goes great with the goma salad dressing, and you have the option to use one of the sauces or both, which one is a bit tangier than the other, which is slightly sweeter. Ask your server and they will be sure to let you know which is which. We keep saying we want to try the KushiKatsu next time, but the porkloin keeps winning, at least for me. read more

If you don't live in town, where you have access to some nice tonkatsu restaurants then this place has you covered. Tasty tonkatsu. Not dry. Just enough. Plus all you can eat rice and cabbage salad. Located at Pearlridge so sometimes there is a wait. Inside is low lighted atmosphere. Feels like you are sitting right next to the table beside you. Honestly, with good company and good food, you won't mind. Ever since they closed down Menchanko Tei, this place hits the spot for me. read more

I've been here a while ago for lunch and enjoyed it then so when I was invited for a girls lunch I was excited to try their kushi katsu since they didn't have this before. I was late for lunch so I had my friend order me the Kushi katsu lunch set 6 with Negima, mochi, onion, arabiki, nasu, chikuwa. The food had come just before I arrived. The kushi katsu was really good! I like that the batter was on the thicker side. Also, they give unlimited cabbage which is nice. Not sure if they give unlimited rice or miso soup like the other katsu place. My favorite kushi katsus were mochi and arabiki. It comes with a sauce that was really good. Servers are really attentive and we even were able to split the bill evenly between 4 of us. The place was really busy and I think most tables were taken. Surprisingly for how busy it was, it seemed to be more quiet than what I would've thought. Will be back when I'm in the area. read more

Initially called for 5:30 p.m. dinner reservation a few days in advance. Worker who answered the phone was very courteous. Fast forward till today. Luckily, we made it during happy hour for 20% off kushi-katsu. He's super cool to let us be seated earlier. Quaint, homey and low key environment. Moriawase 10pc: We shared everything except I let my better half consume onions while I had two lotus roots. Top five faves in this order were soft shell crab, Renton or lotus root, mushroom, negima, and mochi. The others were a bit too oily for my palate. 4 pc Chicken Katsu Teishoku: My husband and son loved it. My husband shared one huge piece and I was able to cut one piece into five bite size pieces. Loved how chicken tasted moist; however, panko mixture seems to hold more oil. 240g Pork Loin Katsu Teishoku: One bite and surprised that pork loin tasted dry even with mild and tangy dipping sauce. Decided to take the rest home for tomorrow's lunch. Mild and tangy dipping sauces are tasty and not spicy. Miso dressing complements drizzled cabbage well. Server was very accommodating to offer take out containers and miso and mild sauce for chicken katsu, pork loin katsu and cabbage. read more

First time trying this spot for tonkatsu and instantly fell in love with it! They have a variety of katsu and kushikatsu to select from. I tried their pork loin and fillet option and it was deeeelish! The sets come with a side of tsukemono, rice, and shredded cabbage. FYI, rice and shredded cabbage is unlimited! The service was quick and the staff were all so nice! It was towards their closing hour, but they still had almost a full house. Checked in and were informed it would take 45 min to be seated despite there being empty available tables. We left but then shortly returned and put our name on the list and we were called in 10min late....so odd. Service by the gentleman who helped us was on the poor side. However, there was a lady who was amazing and kept helping us despite her not being assigned to us. She kept re-filling our cabbage, our water and just overall checking our table. We also noticed our assigned server had fully served another table who arrived way after us and yet our order was taken before that table came in way later. In fact, our appetizer we never made it to the table. Now, althouth service was poor by our designated server, the food was very good. Our order consisted of the chicken curry katsu and pork curry katsu and well as some side orders. Portions are not scant which i expect for the price. The katsu was perfection and the curry complemented the protein so well with just the right amount of spice. Enjoyed our meal very much and greatly recommend the food ....just not as excited about the gentleman who helped us. read more

We absolutely love the katsu here so we went in for Gift Cards and stayed for lunch. Lol The tonkatsu is so crispy and the pork is cooked just right! The cabbage with the miso dressing is such a good combo along with the miso soup. Cabbage is unlimited so it's okay to ask for more... my boys always asks for seconds. :p Their katsu curry is really good too! Yesterday, we overheard an employee comment they were short staffed. Our waiter did seem busy and a bit frazzled but our food and water was served quickly... No complaints here. Service is always quick and friendly. We tried the place in Kapahulu ... Koromo is still our favorite! Reminds us of the tonkatsu we had in Japan. read more

SUMMARY: Atmosphere: cozy and casual dining spot in the mall Food: crispy, great value meal Service: friendly, accommodating, and thoughtful I've dined in three times, all of which were enjoyable and delicious experiences. My favorite item to order is the Ebi Fry and Pork Loin Katsu meal. Both proteins are crispy and fried to katsu perfection! Each meal starts off with different kimchee sides and miso soup. And the meal itself is accompanied by rice (brown or white rice) and shredded cabbage, which are both refillable. You can even choose your katsu sauce (mild or a slightly spicy version) and salad dressing (though I liked both, I slightly prefer the sesame over the miso dressing). Overall a yummy experience with delicious, large portions and a thought staff. I do however wish they had an easier way to make reservations (I don't believe they have an online booking option). This place can get busy for dinner time, so come a little before the dinner rush at 6pm if you want to be seated quicker. Up next: coming here for their lunch specials. read more

Inspired by a viral TikTok about this place, we couldn't wait to try it. We are huge fans of tonkatsu and typically, only ever go to a place that shall not be named but takes a literal lifetime to get a reservation....SO you could say we were excited for an alternative! We loved our experience at Koromo. The serving size was generous and we loved the variety of options for different types of tonkatsu. The rice and miso were delicious and we (my husband) sincerely appreciated how often our server offered to refill our cabbage! The only thing that would make Koromo better would be options for different rice/miso and a slightly elevated presentation. Parking was convenient and easy and the service was awesome. Hands down the best katsu in town!! Conveniently located at pearl ridge in the same parking lot of Gen BBQ. It's able to be seen straight from the parking lot and entrance is as soon as you walk into the mall. Next to Hot Topic (I can't believe that store is still open). The restaurant is very small so be sure to go when the mall isnt pumping. Just a few tables maybe 10 or so. My GF and I both had the same thing because it just sounded so delish just while she said it. So glad I did because it was ono! We had the ebi cry and pork loin katsu. This was both the juiciest crunch amazing katsu I've ever eaten. I'm usually not a "cabbage" eater I just see it as filler on your plate but their dressing was to die for. I coulda drank it. The curry chefs kiss and don't forget to add cheese! The service was also great. I forgot her name but she was very sweet and attentive! Can't wait to go back! read more

A shout out to my nephew -"Mahalo"- for treating us to this awesome Japanese dining spot at the phase 2 Pearlridge shopping mall. Here's what we ordered: Ebi Fry Curry- 3 large shrimp expertly prepared with a nice crisp. Japanese style curry and rice complemented the shrimp very well. Chicken Katsu and Fried Oysters- I absolutely enjoyed this "Surf-n-Turf" dish. Both items (especially the crispy oyster) were again, expertly done. Not oily, not heavily battered, but lightly crispy. Pork Loin Katsu- Wow, this pork loin was very tender. They offered two Katsu sauces on the table. I liked the spicy one. Totemo oishī :) Soft Shell Crab- Not heavily battered, although, enough to add a nice crunch to the slightly sweet and delicate flesh of the crab. Finely shredded cabbage- Nothing is healthier than a cabbage, right?? Served cool and finely shredded. There's two sauces that are brought to the table. I think it was sesame soy and miso soy. I used both and it was the best cabbage salad I've ever eaten, AND you can ask for more. Btw, when you eat something that's cooked to a crisp and rich in texture, do yourself a favor ... wash it down with a very cold Asahi beer. So satisfying!! :) Reservations are recommended. Service is quick and friendly. Parking is plentiful. Take care! read more

My husband asked me if I wanted Tonkatsu for lunch this past weekend and I can never turn down Tonkatsu so I automatically agreed! Normally we do not drive out to Aiea for lunch but a coworker of his recommended Koromo so I thought it would be worth the drive. :) I ordered the pork loin Katsu Curry and my husband ordered the shrimp Katsu curry. The pork loin was lean and perfectly cooked! I do wish the panko was a little more flakier and chunkier. The shrimp was juicy and quite sizable! Overall it was a really enjoyable meal. I definitely appreciated the bottomless cabbage too! This is a great option for those who live outside of town but want a delicious Tonkatsu like Tamafuji or Ginza Bairin. read more

We decided to try Koromo out because we've heard from multiple family members and friends that it's a really good place but we were sadly disappointed. I made reservations for 3pm on a Sunday - I checked in and looked around and the restaurant didn't seem too busy. The girl that I checked in with said that it'll at least be ten minutes because they're cleaning the table. So I decided to wait outside. The rest of my party came (there were only three of us) and we waited some more. 30 minutes passed and we witnessed 4 parties that were eating in the restaurant finish and leave - why'd I wait so long before saying something? Because I've worked in a restaurant for years and know that it can get super busy. I finally went in to see what the hold up was and the hostess completely forgot about us waiting outside. How would I know that she forgot about us? Because the first thing she said to me when I stepped back in "Hi for how many?" I then told her "I had a reservation for 3 at 3pm?" She then used the excuse "oh yeah! Okay, we just had a huuuge party leave so we're getting your table ready right now." & that experience played the biggest part in our entire dinner experience. The food was just okay - Ive honestly had better. My boyfriend wasn't impressed either and he loooves tonkatsu. I ended up giving the place at least two stars because the Asahi on draft was good and our server was attentive and nice. read more

Turned away an hour and a half before closing. I guess you guys have better things to do than make money.

I dropped by Koromo Hawaii at Pearlridge for a birthday lunch. We were seated right away, and since it was our first time here, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home. They patiently explained the menu, giving us all the time we needed to decide. Oh, and speaking of the menu, it's pretty nifty - double-sided, with the same menu on both sides. You can plunk it in the middle of the table, and both you and your dining partner can peruse it at the same time. I went for the kushi katsu curry set, where you get to pick three out of their 16 kushi katsu options. I went all out and splurged an extra $1.35 for that soft shell crab, alongside the nasu (eggplant) and zucchini. To sweeten the deal, they throw in unlimited cabbage salad, which was all thinly sliced and ready to be coated in your choice of miso or sesame dressing. My pro-tip? Mix 'em both. My dining partner went for the ebi fry and pork loin katsu teishoku set. It comes with miso soup, kimchi, and rice. Let me tell you, that ebi fry was the real MVP of the meal. A massive black tiger shrimp that remained juicy and succulent - I could eat that all day. The pork loin wasn't too shabby either, but I'll be honest, the crispy-to-fatty ratio was a bit on the heavy side for my taste. I love an interactive element when dining, and here you get to grind your own sesame seeds for the katsu sauce. You get a little mortar and pestle, and you can go to town on those sesame seeds. I made it to a paste and mixed it directly with the katsu sauce, but you can also keep it chunky and sprinkle it on top. They also have two different types of katsu sauce- a "mild" and "tangy". I opted for the "mild" which I thought already had a tang but it was a classic katsu sauce elevated with the nuttyness of the freshly grounded sesame. read more

Took friends visiting from the mainland on a Tuesday night an hour before closing. Called in advance to make a reservation, but I feel like I didn't need to as the restaurant was fairly empty as it was close to closing. This also gave a very relaxed vibe to the dining area. The tonkatsu was pretty good; crispy and flavorful. It is served with Japanese mustard which adds a nice spicy kick similar to Chinese mustard, sesame seeds to grind up and add to the two different katsu sauces, and unlimited cabbage accompanied by two different dressings. The dressing for the cabbage was delicious and they sell them in bottles you can use at home! We also got the kushikatsu (fried food on skewers) which was good but a little pricey for what you get. Some of the pictures for the skewers were deceiving like the $2 zucchini that shows 2 or 3 pieces but is actually 1 little slice..for $2.. Our server was really friendly and helpful as she gave responses to our questions such as the difference between pork lion vs fillet and overall menu recommendations. Will definitely come again for the tonkatsu! read more

The Chicken Katsu and Pork Loin Katsu were extremo juicy and full of flavor. The loin is more fatty than the filet, if you are wanting a juicy katsu then get the loin! I also got the Kaki Fry (oyster katsu), which I personally wouldn't get again. I felt like it was dry and not super flavorful. They provide you with the option of two different katsu sauces one more tangy and one sweet. Overall I will definitely come back for the Pork Loin Katsu or Chicken Katsu, but probably would not order the Kaki Fry again. read more

It's good katsu and the price was reasonable compared to other katsu places on island. They give you all you can eat cabbage and rice. There's 2 different cuts of pork, loin and filet. The filet comes as 2 whole pieces that you can just dip in the sauce and eat (little thinner.) the other cut is the loin which comes cut up and looks like the typical katsu pieces (little thicker). Also comes with tsukemono and kimchee. Service was great to top it off read more

This place is amazing and now my favorite Tonkatsu place. Surprisingly, it wasn't too busy at noon on a Saturday at Pearlridge and we got seated after a couple of minutes. My friend and I both ordered the Pork Loin, Pork Fillet, and Chicken Katsu Teishoku with brown rice. We were promptly brought miso soup, kimchee, tsukemono, crushed sesame seeds (for the Tonkatsu sauce and got 2 dressings(miso & oriental dressing) for the finely shredded cabbage. I liked miso dressing the best. 2 bowls of Tonkatsu sauce(spicy & regular) were already on the table. The miso soup was ok but can't compare to mom's homemade miso soup. Kim Chee was good and the takuwan with the sweet chili sauce was excellent. The crushed sesame seeds is to be mixed with the Tonkatsu sauce. Either Tonkatsu sauce was good. I ended up mixing the regular & the mildly spicy one together. The Tonkatsu pork & chicken had thin panko breading which is light and crispy not thick heavy chewy batter. The pork was moist and tender. I had a hard time figuring out which was the pork loin and the pork filet. Both were very good. The chicken was good as well. They were all cooked perfectly and had no chewy or tough parts. Our server was attentive with filling our water and asked if we needed anything else about 3 times during our meal. The only minor issue we had was the miso dressing bottle was clogged and we had to ask the server try to fix it twice. For improvement, the 2 different Tonkatsu sauces should be labeled as well as the 2 different cabbage dressings. Although it was ok, the high chairs & tables that we were seated on were probably not the most comfortable for me since I was on crutches. Overall great food and service! I'll be back and might try their Kushi-Katsu (Katsu on a stick) next time. read more

Great place for light meal and drinks! First time coming and it was happy hour (20% off kushi-katsu and drinks) so wanted to try as much of the skewers. Decided to go with the moriawase (10 pc) very happy with the decision because now I know what works and what doesn't work for me!! Surprisingly enjoyed the shishito, it's not as spicy as I thought it would be. The top skewers that stood out and I would order again is the soft shell crab and shishito. Server was helpful and knowledgeable on the sauce! Miso sauce is the light brown one, very light and savory while as the darker brown shade is a sweet sesame sauce. Sesame sauce won the battle and we practically used that sauce as a dressing for everything. Pretty bomb and chill place to eat! Didn't get to try their gelato but they have several different flavors. Next visit it'll be a for sure order with light meals! read more

Well, I had a meeting at Koromo. I'm a sucker for curry and somewhat a comfort food for me. I ordered the Ebi Fry Curry while my friend ordered the pork tenderloin Curry. It was phenomenal and not spicy hot like some curries. The Ebi Fry was tender inside, crunchy outside and paired well with curry. My friend loved the tenderness of pork...yet, crunchy. We just devoured the curry and rice....no brained. But we must not forget the Kimchee daikon! The Kimchee had a kick and sweetness at the same time. They serve all you can eat shredded fine cabbage with either garlic miso or sesame ginger dressing. The garlic miso is the bomb! Be prepared for vaccination card, ID, and temperature check.
