It's great to have a Korean market AND restaurant on Solano Avenue! We had lunch in the outdoor patio in the back and it was beautiful. There's a great selection of banchan, dry foods, and drinks you can purchase to go and they have a variety to choose from if you choose to sit down and eat at their restaurant. I got the Tofu doshirak and my husband got the spicy pork doshirak and we both really enjoyed our meals. The staff is also super sweet and helpful. I'm so happy this little Korean market opened on Solano Ave! It's really charming inside and very comfortable seating. Beautiful backyard garden patio with ample of sun shining into the eating area. It's about time Albany gets some more Korean food love! The selection of Korean goodies is well curated. It has pretty much all the basic Korean ingredients, gochujang, Korean pancake mix, potato noodles, dumplings, frozen snacks, beef/pork slices for kbbq, a huge selection of Korean instant ramen, and lots more. They even have freshly prepared banchans and kimchi for sale. They also serve a selection of cooked food such as Korean rice cakes, tofu soups, bento boxes, mixed rice, donkatsu, kimbap, and more. If they serve Korean wine/beer, I'm sure it would be a hit too. We got the bulgogi kimbap, spicy pork bento box, and seafood tofu soup. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The spicy pork was wonderfully grilled and marinated, rice was cooked well, and the other side dishes like the mandu (though a little cold) and broccoli/cauliflower were all great. I really loved the spicy tofu soup. Flavorful yet well balanced, savory but not too salty. Loved the pieces of mussels, squid, and shrimps in there. Tofu was perfectly silky. Served in a tall deep ramen bowl instead of the traditional Korean stone bowl, but managed to stay hot throughout. They serve a limited selection of banchans - 2 types, a spicy radish and a miso(?) zucchini. Both were tasty. Just wish we had some napa cabbage kimchi to go along with our meal. Not sure if the banchans can be refilled like a regular Korean restaurant. Prices are reasonable. Will be back to try more Korean food! the naengmyeon came with korean pear, cucumber, radish, half of a hard boiled egg, with wasabi and vinegar on the side. It was a really big bowl and my favorite dish. the palace rice cakes were also fantastic, they had a smoky teriyaki flavor and came with beef, mushrooms, bell pepper, and woodear. i thought that the soft tofu stew was a little disappointing- it didn't have a very strong flavor and it didn't come in the earthenware bowls that i was used to. there were good morsels of seafood, though. the portions were big but i still think it was a little over priced. the outdoor area is very nice! read more

Have been wanting to try this place for a while. When we came in we were expecting the place to be a lot smaller than it was, but it was very spacious. They took us to the back of the restaurant/ grocery store and they had lots of tables and even had a patio area for dining. It was really nice! There wasn't a large selection on the menu and we got the soondubu with pork belly and the rose tettbokki. The soondobu had a soybean base and it was such a comforting meal. It tasted so good with the kimchi! It was delicious! The banchans were also very tasty! They had 2 shiitake mushroom banchans (one spicy and one mild) those were my favorite, kimchi, braised kabocha squash, and pickled seaweed. All of them were so tasty and complimented the meal so nicely! Next the rose rice cakes came out and it was so full of flavor! It had a nice spice to it, it wasn't too spicy but just spicy enough and it came with fish cakes and cheese. The flavors melded together wonderfully and I couldn't get enough of it! I wish I would have added the glass noodles or ramen to it because there was so much sauce leftover! We were both full by the end of the meal and had leftovers. If you need a quick lunch or want to grab some Korean snacks, this is your spot. It's so cute and cozy inside. They have outdoor and indoor seating. I was hoping to get some rice rolls but I didn't see this item on their menu, so I went with the miso ramen with rice cakes. The ramen was good and a big portion! So if you go with someone this can be easily shared. The Korean iced latte was yummy, the angelic and kind waiter said it's basically Korean coffee packets with milk and ice. Along with my food, they serve you three small side dishes and they were each so good! It was spinach, potatoes, and fish cake. I liked that the waiter introduced what each side dish was which is helpful for people who are new to Korean food. There wasn't many people when I first arrived but it slowly started getting packed. My family and I went off peak hours for linner. The interior is well curated and they have a whole wall dedicated to instant noodles. The outdoor space is so beautiful and it feels like an oasis. I ordered the cold noodle dish and it was perfectly flavored and well balanced. A small feedback is that I wish there was a little more protein, but I love the pear and fresh veggies. We tried this place for the first time today. Two of their staff had not shown up so needless to say they were scrambling. We ordered take out which took about 35 minutes. They would have likely done better time-wise on a day when they were fully staffed. We selected six of the pre-packaged banchan from their refrigerated section and also placed takeout orders for three of the Doshi-Roc (bento style) from their menu - bulgogi, spicy pork belly and miso chicken. The banchan - which we understand they make in-house - were excellent (the seasoned royal fern was our favorite). However, the bentos were less do. Of the three, the bulgogi was by far the best. The miso chicken was most disappointing, primarily because it has a distinct flavor of lighter fluid from the grill. Bottom line, they certainly deserve a second chance. Also, like any establishment, it is no doubt far better to eat there and enjoy the dishes hot from the kitchen. read more

This is a newly opened Korean restaurant/convenient store in north Berkeley. Upon entry, it looks like it's family owned and the people were very welcoming. First time coming here, came here in a group of 4. Was seated immediately and asked if we preferred inside or outside seating. It was cold so we opted for inside. It was cool inside, the walls were filled with a variety of ramen packs and Korean sauces and snacks along with fridges filled with frozen food, meat and drinks. The staff were all friendly, especially the older lady. I'm unsure if she owns the place but she sure seemed like she did. She was so kind and funny and tried to help us order. It was not our first time trying Korean food at all but we were struggling with whether we should share or not. We ultimately decided to get our own food and share small portions. Food was amazing and delicious. I got the pork and cheese cutlet and I would say it's a solid 8. I wish the pork cutlet was larger though but I still ended up being really full. Tofu stew was delicious and warm, great for cold weather. The do shi rak was a bigger portion than it seems, so one of us had leftovers. Sitting in what used to be Rivoli's back garden is a lovely bonus to the food and the concept of this Korean mini-mart/diner. The bento boxes are a good value since there's usually enough to take home for a second meal. My favorite dish is the cold noodles, which has a fantastic broth that is sweet, sour and spicy all at once. I only shop the prepared foods in the refrigerated section because those take time to make on your own and the side dishes and marinated meats are high quality and delicious (but pricier than a full Korean grocery). Not a lot of capacity for dining in, but the tables seem to move quickly. My favorites were the simple cold noodles (not pictured) and the spicy pork belly. The tteokbokki was a bit hard for my liking and the pork katsu could've had more meat. However, the service was a bit slow at this establishment. Could have been understaffed, but we had to wait over an hour for our table and also were not given side dishes or utensils until much later. This could have been due to the timing of our visit, so I would suggest visiting on a less busy weekday. The ambiance was super friendly and homey, I loved that there was a grocery store inside and I had the option to buy things after my meal. Overall, would return again on a less busy day. read more

This was my third visit in 6 months. The first two times were great. Wonderful outdoor patio in the summer and the food was flavorful. I brought friends for a celebration dinner. We were ready to have a great meal. Unfortunately, that did not happen last Friday evening. The appetizers of fried dumplings and tteokboki were delicious. Unfortunately, the two orders of Tonkatsu came out over a cold bed of rice. Cold. I was going to ask them to be taken back but the friends had already started. The other two bowls which were accompanied by separate bowls of white rice came to the table also stone cold. I asked for warm bowls of rice and they were promptly delivered. When I got my soft tofu stew (soon dooboo jigae), I was thankful because I saw steam rising from the plentiful bowl of stew. I forgot about the rice and started. Unfortunately the stew broth was lacking flavor, umami.... I left the stew not even half eaten and we left. I want this place to succeed. It has a vibe and freshness that other korean restaurants lack. It doesn't suffer from imposter syndrome. I hope this was just a bad night. read more

A little confusing when you get inside. We were standing confused if we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait. But you get a choice of sitting inside or outside. Outside seating has a nice, cute ambience to it. Food was pretty good. We got the galbi jjim. It wasn't bad. Filling, but wished for more kalbi, but who doesn't haha. So I would recommend to try it. Finally found a great Korean restaurant in the Bay! This place was such a gem. Right when you walk in, you feel the charm and warm of this restaurant. It's a menu with classic Korean dishes done well and beautifully presented. We sat indoors but the outdoors is just as charming with string lights. We got the classic cold noodles, the tofu soup, and the iced citron tea (A must get! It's so refreshing!!). Definitely the best cold noodles I've ever had in the bay. The tofu stew was also so hearty and comforting. What's also great about this restaurant is that it's a mini market/bodega that lines all along the walls of the restaurant. If you're looking for a cozy restaurant that is like a warm hug, head to Korean Superette. It's like an upscale Korean restaurant and grocery store in one. If hygge to you means inhaling and slurping up a warm tofu stew, while watching donuts being deep fried on TV, and surrounded by packets of ramen. There's also a lovely and charming back patio that still maintains a cozy vibe with the surrounding trees. The roasted rice tea is soothing, (only wished it came with additional hot water or a bigger tea cup, since it's close to $4.50). The banchan (fresh kimchi!) was varied in the two visits I made during the same week. The entree portions are plentiful - I made two meals of my donburi with chicken and the rice cake with bulgogi was chewy and flavorful, the sauce at the bottom infused with the beef, mushrooms, and vegetables. Although the flavor profile is a bit bland in some of the dishes I had (meaning it's not the best Korean I've had), the overall effect of their food is like being in front of a fireplace on a stormy, rainy day. This place requires some introduction. It is half simple restaurant and half Korean mini mart. I believe it's from the same owners of a few Korean spots in east bay. Food is simple home Korean food. Nothing too fancy. Not that different from what was made at home. Therefore, set expectations for "home" fare and you won't walk away disappointed. I happened upon this restaurant/market while searching for Korean restaurants. It occupies the former Rivoli's restaurant location. When I arrived I was a bit confused because there was no one at the cash register (at the entrance to the restaurant/market) and no signage except a sign pointing to the market. When someone arrived, our name was put on a waitlist. I'm not sure how long this establishment has been open but the staff still seems a bit unorganized, and hurried. While waiting for our table, we perused the market. The refrigerated & frozen goods are lined up along the hallway leading to the restaurant as well into the restaurant space. The dry goods are arranged along the wall of the restaurant seating area. It's rather odd to be wandering around diners while shopping for groceries - but it worked OK. There is indoor and outdoor dining. The outdoors has a more spacious feeling. While wandering around the market, I noticed there was an empty table for two. About 15 minutes after that, the person in the front seated us. Once seated the service was fine. We ordered the spicy pork belly bento (came with daikon pickle, rice, steamed broccoli, soup, and pork belly over cabbage), and the bulgogi rice bowl. We also had an apple soju which was tasty and not overly sweet. Everything was prepared well - very tasty. We both took leftovers home. Lunch for two plus tip came to around $75. The market doesn't have a large selection. I bought several prepared items - fried fish cake, kim chi, fish cake stew, a couple different ramen, a few different ice cream treats. We went there for lunch yesterday, for the first time. Very nice setting with a beautiful and peaceful outdoor patio. The people there are nice and friendly. The food tastes good and the presentation is good too. The only reason I did not give 5 star is that the food was too salty. I ordered the kimchi noodle soup. I did not realize it was that salty Siri g the meal, but I was very thirsty throughout the entire afternoon after the meal. I typically get thirsty when I ate food that contains MSG. I am not sure if the noodle soup has too much salt/sodium or there was MSG in it. My wife had spicy pork rice bowl and she said it was salty during the meal but she did not get thirsty after the meal. We will definitely go back there for the nice setting and friendly staff, but really hope that the chef will see this feedback and reduce sodium in the food. read more

Well well well... I was incredibly impressed when I stopped by last Sunday around 1pm with my pup. We called ahead and luckily a table in the back patio was still available so were seated immediately. Ambience: Outdoor patio is gorgeous, with a serene vibe and perfectly shaded by a few large canopy of trees! Service: Warm, inviting and friendly :) Food: Authentic Korean flavors with a slight modern twist, clean and sophisticated (tried: Sam bites, Pork/Kimchi dumplings, Classic nengmyun) I am Korean and eat a LOT of K food but have been sorely disappointed with the restaurants as of late. Korean Superette is different from the standard Korean restaurant in such a good way that I was raving to my friends and family afterwards.
