Came in on Monday, Memorial Day for breakfast. We were seated quickly and given coffee quickly. So far so good. Then the food came. I ordered the pancake breakfast and my husband ordered the biscuits & gravy breakfast. Our food was almost cold when it came. The meat was actually pretty good (bacon & sausage links) but the pancakes were just okay, biscuits & gravy was kind-of gross. It was edible but, again, it was almost cold. Gravy was lacking flavor but was overly salty. It was a huge disappointment because the reviews are pretty good on yelp. Other complaints are that the coffee basically tasted like hot water and we saw one of the staff scoop ice with a cup, not the ice scoop. Health code violation. Ew. read more

These folks could use a cook! Ordered a patty melt . It came with a overcooked hamburger patty on toast slightly melted cheese and grilled onions. Right components just not grilled and terribly dry. I will give it another try soon. Hoping the cook just had a off day. read more

3 hairs cooked into 1 egg is intentional, also the chicken fried steak was super small and gross. Called they said they would make it right by me bringing the eggs back and they would cook me more. As good as it gets in Chester...funny name "Chester"... Usually I'm stopping here after doing some grueling activity in Lassen, and all I want is something with a lot of calories and meat and I can't wait for Reno. However, the service is always friendly here and prompt. And their menu is huge, the prices are reasonable, and there is actually good food here. I've had the biscuits and gravy on one occasion - very satisfying. And recently, I had the mountaineers burger and ate. Every. Single. Bite. They gave me extra pickles, no extra charge! read more

It took over an hour to get half of our cold food. We ordered a simple breakfast because we needed to get back on the road. As we sat there waiting, we notices several newer customers receiving the meals before us. When our "waitress" saw us looking around is when she brought us cold coagulated food and we had to wait for biscuits and gravy! Not one apology, just cold food served from a stoned faced "waitress". Lastly, and the most disheartening is we were the only Asians in the establishment and were very sadden to feel the bite of discrimination in 2022. We were treated very poorly. Oddly delicious for a mom and pop small town café. The ambiance was quiet but not horribly silent, the service was friendly, and the food was high quality. The only downside was that their pie was a little bit mushy, and the wait was a teensy bit long. Overall, though, it was great. read more

Very cool to have sushi in Chester. Very good. I hope they can find more help soon though. Our waitress did a fantastic job running the entire dining room all by herself. The elder lady serving in there is hustling and deserves recognition. My guess is that the owners Childers were the Children running around and being obnoxious. The waitress was the one having to ask the children to use their inside voices, not their parents. Unfortunately, I -- as others -- feel compelled to leave a sub-par review for a once great restaurant. Kopper Kettle management: get it together! We've been vacationing at Lake Almanor for 25 years and nearly always have breakfast at the Kopper Kettle at least once during our stay. Even as recently as 10 years ago, this place was the best! Huge pancakes, consistently high-quality food; it was always a step or two above the Denny's or IHOP's of the world simply because of quality. Now, the rustic charm of the restaurant has translated to the dark side of the non-franchise: unregulated, inconsistent, and generally sloppy. My hubby and I took a day trip up to Lake Almanor and stumbled upon this place. It is a cute little diner that seemed to have everyone in the town in it. Everything looked yummy! I just recently had bariatric surgery, so I was a little reluctant on what I should get....but they had a "diet plate" on the menu. It was a hamburger patty, side of cottage cheese and fruit. Packed with protein and pretty much exactly what I was looking for. I thought it was great that they had that on the menu. My husband got an omelette which looked delicious. Stayed in Chester for one night and this was the restaurant that was chosen to accommodate 21 bikers for dinner. It's Chester after all, not much around here. So don't expect anything fancy. It's a diner where you can get something to eat. But there is a lighted sign that said Chinese Food. In my mind I was thinking this is odd. When I walked in an older couple came out and said don't eat their Chinese food. So of course I was skeptical. I walked in and the restaurant is owned by an Asian couple so I'm thinking how can their Chinese food be bad?? Unless the owners being Asian decided to concoct something up to test? So of course I stayed clear of the Chinese food and ordered a hamburger. A couple of people from our group ordered Chinese food and it looked pretty good and smelled authentic. Being Asian and from the bay area I decided to be nosey and find out more about the owners. The couple is from San Francisco and they wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco and come to a small quiet town. They've owned the restaurant for 15years. Their children still live in San Francisco but come to help them out every so often when they have time. I oh so regret not ordering their Chinese dishes. I shouldn't have listened to the couple that told us not to order their Chinese food. All I can say is what did the couple know about food? They for sure are not foodies and they either come from a small town or live in a state that doesn't serve Chinese food or nor have they ever seen what Chinese food looks or taste like. Overall the food was edible but what can you expect when you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere? The food came out slowly but we didn't expect it to come out at the same time since there were only 2 chefs and 21 orders to fulfill. As the owner stated the only traffic they get is during the summer and during the winters most of the restaurants surrounding them close down. Good local eatery with hearty comfort food. Everything I have eaten here is delicious. Make sure you always check the daily specials before ordering as when they walk past you with a "special" plate you usually find yourself wishing you had ordered it. Both the soups and pies are out of this world and the staff friendly and efficient. Well rounded menu and a BONUS!! Breakfast is available ALL day! The portions are generous so you won't go away hungry. They have a generator, so when the power is out you can still get a hot meal. Amy is a gem. They serve beer and wine. And their senior menu portions are just as generous as the regular meals. This is a perfectly fine place to go to get a pretty typical diner breakfast. We stopped by for breakfast before heading out to Lassen Park for the day. The service was a little on the slow side, but not the sort of "get up and leave" slowness. Prices were a bit higher than I'd expect, especially since there wasn't anything particularly special about the place or the menu. It's standard diner fare. A few eggs here. Some hash browns there. The coffee has a hint of a coffee flavor to it. In my opinion, the portions were too big, making me think it was a shame to pay a little more for diner food, only to throw a good bit of it away. All in all, it put fuel in us as we headed to the park, so no real complaints, but no real compliments either. read more

They serve one fantastic breakfast with genorous portions and quality food. the bacon is thick and the sausage links are super big. If you are a biscuits and gravy person, be prepared. The biscuits are homemade and giant. Combine that with Amy's homemade gravy and you have a belly buster. Yum! Burgers are great and if you want turkey they roast it there. However......we came here for dinner on a Sunday night....forgetting that NO restaurant in the area is open on Sundays! Bad choice! We ate around 1130AM. Hubby ordered vegetable omelette with brown toast and hashbrown. I ordered Kielbasa omelette (add ons: mushroom and avocado) with brown toast and hashbrown. While I was ordering it, I said add on "avocado and mushroom". Our waitress kept on saying: "yes, add on tomatoes & mushroom". I said: "No, it's avocado and mushroom". And she said again: "Right, tomatoes and mushroom add on."... Not until I said: "No, no, no. I hate tomatoes"... Then she looked at me confused and now, finally listening. And I reiterated: "please add avocado & mushroom to my kielbasa omelette". Then she said, without blinking: "avocado & mushroom add on"... NO APOLOGY, then left. The service was extremely slow. Maybe because it's almost lunchtime? Dunno. But our food arrived 45mins after we ordered. Our coffee (tasted like watered down) was already very cold when our food arrived. Good thing the refills were unlimited. When our food arrived, hubby was happy with his vegetable omelette. My Kielbasa omelette with avocado and mushroom was just "kielbasa omelette with avocado. Our server/waitress forgot my mushroom. I called our waitress' attention and informed her that it seems, she forgot to include the mushroom in my order. She just looked at me and didn't say anything. I waited for an explanation or at least an apology, but still, nothing. So, after that "pause" i just told her that it's fine, just don't charge us for that missing add on". My kielbasa omelette tasted bland, hubby said his vegetable omelette tastes ok. I think this establishment only thrives because there's no other choice for a brunch in this area. Oh, i almost forgot, nobody paid attention to the frames hanging on the wall. Didn't the owners notice that ALL the picture frames on the wall still have the cardboard corner protectors???? Did they leave it there on purpose in case they're going to fall to "protect" it??? I'm just saying.... Lol I am big on service so I am not giving this restaurant additional stars. My husband and I are from out of town and went to dinner and the next morning breakfast. For dinner, we walked in and the young ladies working were so kind and helpful; our server Lyric did a wonderful job. I ordered the meatloaf with brown gravy included a baked potato and corn. It was very delicious and indeed a comfort food. For the morning , Amy the owner, served us and she was a delight to know. I had a vegetarian omelet which was huge and included hash browns and toast. When I was little, this place made the biggest, tastiest Mickey Mouse pancakes I've ever had. And the whipped cream atop the hot chocolate was deliciously tasty. As an adult, meh. I remember coming here for breakfast with my family while vacationing at Lake Almanor. It was so much cuter, with better tasting food before the remodel. It used to be a greasy, hole in the wall with formica topped tables and brown coffee mugs. I wish I could elaborate about the breakfast we had here, but it wasn't tasty at all. Lots of food, with no taste. Service was slow, inattentive, order was taken down incorrectly, and by the time the food came out, we just wanted to leave. I started to get irritated, my dad didn't send his order back because we had already been there for an hour and were running behind schedule. Bypass this place by all means.
