Copper Kettle Cafe was exactly the kind of stop we needed after a long day driving from the Sequoia area toward Lassen Volcanic National Park. At that point, hunger was making major life decisions for us, and this place definitely hit the spot. We ordered the Cobb salad, a cheeseburger, and a milkshake. Everything tasted good. Nothing dramatically life-changing or worthy of a dramatic food documentary narration, but solid, satisfying comfort food when you really need it. The milkshake was actually very good, and honestly part of the charm was watching the staff figure out the wonderfully ancient milkshake machine. It felt a little like witnessing a friendly negotiation between modern humans and a relic from a 1957 diner. Somehow, though, the machine delivered. It also seemed like there may have been new owners or at least people still settling into things. Communication was occasionally a little challenging, but everyone was trying, and the whole interaction ended up feeling more charming and humorous than frustrating. Overall, this is a simple roadside café that serves comforting food, good milkshakes, and a little small-town personality along the way. My family and I have been going here for generations and never have experienced such rude management. They must've had an ownership change because their service last year was fine. There was an older gentleman with glasses that wouldn't even seat my party of 6 because he was "waiting for bigger parties to arrive." There were maybe 2 other families seated and the rest of the place was empty with no reservations. He was just overall very short-tempered, rude, and shouldn't be hosting at all. When my family went here earlier this week without me, the same guy berated a kid in front of them for asking to take their glasses (he asked politely and still got yelled at in front of my family). My dad tried to stand up for the kid but the guy claimed that "he needs to learn his lesson." The guy also denied my little brother a chocolate milkshake because they were understaffed (again, there were only 3 parties seated out of the entire restaurant). They used to get lines out the door but now the place is so empty (for good reason). Please don't eat here and instead, support other restaurants that actually deserve service :( read more

The service was great, wasn't too busy so I didn't expect to wait forever long and we didn't. We were seated by the nice lady and the older gentleman took over towards the end and was very kind and happy to see us. The food was great usual French toast but huge and delicious hash browns. I ordered the Fried Chicken dinner with a baked potato and it was a huge portion! I couldn't finish it all. Each bite had a signature crispy crunch with every bite! The ambiance of as home like, typical American Diner vibes with a mix of asian touches. As i sat there i could imagine how busy and lively this place must have been in its heyday but unfortunately I think this place has been affected by the recent wildfires. Everything was soo good. It genuinely tastes like a home cooked meal that your grandmother makes for you on your birthday. The chicken fried steak was perfect, nice and soft with the right amount of gravy. It was honestly hard to not eat it all. Our server was wonderful and made sure we had what we needed. Friendly old school type diner with a large menu for breakfast lunch and dinner and everything in between. We were greeted by a nice man who seated us and took our drink orders. There was quite a few diners in the restaurant this day and a large party in the back and the service seemed good for the amount of people there. We started off with a hot chocolate to warm us up as the restaurant was quite cold on this winter day.. even the staff were in large coats. The hot chocolate was great and the whipped cream even better.. but it was odd to me that this restaurant didn't seem to have any type of heat on. The breakfasts portions were good sized but food quality and flavors were so so .. my sausage omelet I almost sent Back as the sausage tiny crumbles were strange light grey in color that resembled mostly fat and had no flavor. I was hungry so decided to just go with it. My husband had the chicken fried steak that was better tasting with crispy Hashbrowns. I think it was just what we ordered this day as I saw other dishes come out that looked wonderful- the French toast was big and fluffy and sausage links looked normal, pancakes and waffles looked amazing. read more

Asked the older man who sat me for a drink and he stated, "she will help you". I looked around and there was no one. I waited over 10 min for the waitress. Her children were in the extended dinning room listening to their iPads extremely loud. The dinning room was not clean and you could smell the bathrooms from the dinning room. The food here was actually quite good; unfortunately, the poor service brought down the experience. Service was basically non-existent. When we arrived there were only two tables seated and it took a few minutes to be acknowledge. Following that it was over 10 minutes for the server to ask for our drink order. Following that it was another 15 minutes for the server to take our food order. In the meantime I got up to self-serve my drink refill but the owner did step in to complete that. It was noted that the owner and the waitress were constantly chit chatting vs. her doing her job. It shouldn't have taken 90 minutes to get a breakfast for 2 people in an extremely empty cafe. I wasn't that hungry but my husband was. We searched up the main street for something with a variety of foods. We had been to Amy's Kopper Kettle twice before and the food was good, served hot and fresh. It was a busy Friday around noon. Luckily, a few tables were vacant. The place looked clean and it reminds me a bit of Eppies or early 90's Denny's. My husband enjoyed the Monte Cristo sandwich. It was huge, full of cheese and meat. Plenty of macaroni salad. I wasn't feeling so good that morning but I needed something to keep me going until the late afternoon. I saw the mozzarella sticks, so that was a must and shared them reluctantly I needed some protein, but not a whole plate of chicken tenders and fries. Here's where things were uncomfortable: I asked if a smaller serving of chicken tenders (3 waitress said she had to "think about that" for a minute. She said she'd be "right back" with an answer and after a few minutes, came back, only to ask "Do you know what you want yet?" I repeated my earlier request, and the waitress said "We could always do the kid's meal. In interest of time, I asked what that included - she said 3 tenders, small side of fries or fruit. I said fries. I didn't see it on the menu but if she said so... So, my husband got his sandwich and he enjoyed it. The mozzarella sticks were perfect. About 10 minutes later, I get the rest of my meal --TWO tenders, a slice of lettuce and tiny sliver of carrot. No fries, or anything else aside from a bowl of my salad dressing. I looked at my husband and said "whatever." So, we eat. The chicken was good, but I could have eaten another piece as they were small. I gave the dressing to my husband. 15 minutes went by until we got our check. The place was quite busy, no big deal. Out of curiosity, I looked at the check. $8.95 for two chicken tenders and no sides? The six piece and fries was about 12.99, but I was too tired to fuss. Our drinks were refilled - a positive! I should have known that something was amiss when we walked into the Kopper Kettle on a Saturday morning and there were no customers, at all, zero. A guy seated us at a table, gave us menus, one coffee and then left for 20 minutes without taking our order. A different person showed up, took our orders and left. We got our food about 20 minutes later. My pancakes were hard around the edge and required a knife to cut them. My friends eggs and hash browns were ok Not once did they return to the table to see if we needed anything, nor was a coffee refill offered. We finally motioned for the check and the bill was paid. Rude- unwelcoming and aggressive. Enjoying the sites of my friends hometown, we were extremely excited to have some local food and sought out this diner. Upon entering we were immediately descended upon by a three workers like a pack of wolves attacking--who obviously and clearly don't need the business in the dead of winter on a Sunday: The man who seemed to be "in charge" approached us aggressively informing us his patio was closed and no dogs were allowed. In spite of my telling him my dog was a trained service animal- clearly indicated by his service vest - he told me it did not matter. No dogs allowed. I informed him it is illegal to deny a service animal entry to a business. He claimed he had allergies. I told him my dog was hypoallergenic being a standard poodle. He argued and told me that that was not true and insisted he knew better because was a microbiologist. He kept on talking as we were already prepared to leave telling us there plenty of other places we could eat on Sunday afternoon, which was actually not true. Had dinner here with a friend in August 2022. Just us and one other party in the restaurant. Service was attentive and the food was good, though a bit pricey. The server said they were out of potato salad but would make me a fresh batch. It took a little longer than my chili, but tasted homemade, which I guess it kind of was. They advertised having sushi, but I don't think I'd get sushi here (I'm a bit of a sushi snob though). Other than sushi, the menu was American diner-type food. Lots of choices that were appealing. This restaurant was on the main road in Chester and we decided to visit for a fast meal. We ordered the Club and Chicken Pesto Sandwiches with a side of Fries. Had a hard time finding food I really enjoyed in Almanor, finally took a chance here and was stoked I did! More of a cafe vibe but really exceeded my expectations! The rib eye was perfectly cooked and the mash potato's were amazing as well as the salad. We also got the French dip which I highly recommend! They do serve beer and wine as well but the list isn't anything crazy but all of the staples are there. Dining choices are slim in small towns especially during the current COVID restrictions. We arrived around 7:30pm on a Thursday and were seated at one of their eight tables out in the front patio. Wanting to kick off our road trip, I ordered a glass of the Chardonnay. Don't do it! It was either old or just off. I didn't finish it, and I never waste booze. Probably better to stick with the personal sized alcoholic drinks. They offer a pretty extensive menu, and we decided on Mom's oven baked meatloaf and the ribeye steak with mashed potatoes and canned corn with a soup of the day (navy bean) and salad. I've passed this place many times. Currently only allowing outside seating at limited capacity so be sure to visit early or off times. Carry out available as well. The coffee was good, free wifi, Service was fast and our breakfast was highly satisfying for 2 guys that were hungry. Certainly a local favorite. My breakfast was the biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs any style with sausage links. I'm normally a bacon guy but these links were large and 3 of them. They were delicious. The biscuits and gravy were smooth and actually really good, the best I have had lately. Flavorful gravy didn't need a lot of extra pepper or salt. The eggs were over hard, difficult to mess that up. Come here doesn't have times, I never had a problem. I've gotten their egg salad sandwich before when we dined in and it was fine but that was years ago. Ordered it this time so I could eat it in the car before we headed back home, an hour away. Sitting still in a car I couldn't even pick it up because of the eggs being diced and not mixed with anything. Just loose diced eggs with Pickles and picking the sandwich up was not an option. It was worse than a sloppy joe! Even though the egg was just egg and not mixed with mayo or any type of dressing, there was white liquid dripping out of the container, like OOZING!!!! And the container was flat on the floor! Dripping like it was filled to the room with teriyaki sauce or something. So it's like they used extremely watered down mail with the egg, none of it stuck to the egg because it was so watery, and it just destroyed all the rest of the food. My wife had the French dip and garlic fries. I had the barbecue beef and garlic fries. The garlic fries were so good. They were the best garlic fries. I think I've had in my entire life. I think they double fried the fries. Oh the garlic taste was just so good. I just can't explain it. I don't know, they weren't. Passing through this tiny town on our trip and wanted something to help with that homesick feel. This place nailed it. The steak was perfect with a lot of flavor, so much so that we didnt need A-1 sauce. And the potatoes were delish. The restaurant was clean, not busy at all and our server, miss Emily, was a delight to talk to. She gave us that homey feel and made our meal that much more pleasant. As soon as we got seated the server asked us about drinks and checked back quickly to take our order. The food took about 30 - 45 minutes to be served but we were not disappointed.
