This is a family owned business and I can't say enough about the food and the service! Christi and her husband Heath (the chef). We have ordered the savory oats which is filling and warms up nicely if you don't finish the full serving. The bacon waffles are spectacular made with real bacon and the steak Benedict is also deliciously flavorful! the breakfast burrito is another favorite and you can choose your protein, including avocado . If you are a local there is a local discount applied to your order and the coffee menu is always changing to exciting new choices. If you are traveling through the area, make sure to put some time aside to give this place a try. You won't regret it. Got here right at opening (second group through the door) and it fills up fast!! Great hours compared to some of the other places in the area. The food came out hot and quick! The portions were perfect and everything was cooked tasty and how we requested (bacon came out crispy without even asking even!) I really loved the latte offerings. The service here was soooooo efficient! They refilled coffee quickly and were so friendly and offered to give us more water or coffee prior to leaving (even when it was so busy and they probably needed us to leave and free up the table). This is about 30 mins from Lassen National Park, if you are looking for morning breakfast near the park with hearty food that's well cooked it's worth the drive. This is right off the road from the PCT too so they had supplies out for the hikers, which I thought was so sweet! Parking is slim and some have to park in side lots and walk through the garden. read more

I read wonderful reviews about this restaurant and needed to check it out! We were warmly greeted when we waited to be seated, and when you walk in, it feels cozy and delightful! We were seated fairly quickly and enjoyed looking at the beautiful paintings on the walls while we looked over the menu. I ordered a cappuccino, which was delicious, and the SoCal Scramble. The scramble tasted fresh and so filling. The service was wonderful and the staff was so friendly! If we go through Chester in the future we will be stopping by here again! read more

I was on a road trip on my motorcycle, stopped in here for some breakfast. The place was moderately busy, but I was seated promptly. Ordered sausage and eggs, hashbrowns and toast. The atmosphere is casual. Overall I liked this place and I would come back again. The only takeaways for me is that the toast was cold, and butter provided would not melt on it, The hash browns were crispy like I asked for them. Overall the temperature of the food was a bit low. It may have sat a bit too long before bringing it to the table? I got several timely refills of coffee. Don't get me wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal, the staff is friendly and I left feeling content with what I got. I hope if the owner/ manager reads this they will take my comments as constructive. Nice breakfast brunch option if you are heading to Lake Almanor or dining in and around Chester, on your way to Lassen (or if you're a local.) A sit down cafe co-located with a small bookstore and an indoor expresso bar & take away cafe, so pick your experience. It was packed for Sunday Brunch and is clearly a local and traveler favorite. We had a sit down brunch outside by the creek that included a half soy chorizo benedict, pancakes and a spinach goat cheese scramble. Points for the soy chorizo benedict and for plenty of outdoor seating. Although small, the bookstore selection is mighty with a good fiction selection and a large rack of maps and books for travelers to the area who want to hike, fish or just learn more about the county. Service was friendly, but distracted. Things that weren't awesome included a load of no-see-ums that live in the nearby creek and made outdoor dining a little buggy for us. I had to fish a few out of my coffee. OJ here is not made fresh, our waitress saying it was from Florida. Their coffee service was just okay (neither strong or flavorful) and included half and half in tiny plastic cups and C&H white sugar packets. For those curious, about 70% of the staff was masked (30% unmasked) so they perhaps leave it up to individual employees to decide to mask up. On the other hand, given that most local businesses are no longer masking, they are probably on the good end for this in the area. read more

We've been to cravings 3 times in the last few months. Upon entering this restaurant you get all the warm, homey, rustic ambience feels. The outdoor dining options in the spring and summer only add to the experience with a babbling creek running nearby and a unique pruned fruit tree with floral scents. The last two visits were breakfast outings and each time our meals were fresh, omelette or eggs Benedict dishes with crispy hash browns and great unique coffee choices like lavender honey mocha etc. I love the extras they add to many of their breakfast dishes like crispy bacon crumbles with green onions that adds that extra flavor. But the best meal we've had was this last Sunday for lunch, and the best burger my husband and I have had in ages and possibly ever! I had the mushroom swiss burger and and my husband had the cheeseburger, both cooked to our preference. These were good sized home made Pattie's, wonderfully juicy & mouthwatering and there were hints of a special seasoning. I also have to give a shout to the crispy edges soft buttery bun that tasted fresh and homemade that complimented or made the meal perfection. We liked that there was healthier side choices and both got a salad instead of chips. The service was great and I can tell the owner cares about they'd patrons as they were serving as well and checking on meals. So wonderful! We'll be back! read more

I've been a customer of Cravings even before they moved to the Stover Landing location. I've always been a fan of their best biscuits and gravey in the county. Recently I saw a new item on the menu, Monte Cristo Sandwich. I fought the road work traffic to get in there to try this. I have to say, it was well worth the traffic stops !! This is by far the BEST sandwich I've ever had. Hand carved ham and turkey with Swiss on wonderful sour dough bread. It was large enough for 2 meals. The coffee and service is spectacular but the food could use some REAL improvements. Boyfriend got the biscuits and gravy and the biscuits tasted like they were baked the day before in a giant tin and then left to sit in the tin, maybe with some Saran Wrap on the top in the fridge. Meaning the biscuits tasted old, cold and like they had sat absorbing mold in the air. The sausage gravy tasted like cream of mushroom soup. I got the chorizo scramble, starting from the potatoes, soggy, old. Tomatoes and spinach, soggy & old. I think the best thing was smashing the avocado on the English muffin. Only thing that wasn't gross was the English muffin and that's because they fortunately don't make those in house so they can't be messed up. Update to respond to the owner. Thank you for noticing my feedback. First, you telling me a I need to speak up, why is it my job as the customer to correct you? Take ownership in the fact your biscuits were old and you serve biscuits that weren't baked fresh that day. (Which isn't a big deal that the biscuits weren't fresh it was the fact they tasted so old) it makes sense why this is done (to save money of course) also make sense to serve soggy old vegetables because it's winter and business is slow so you aren't going through items as quickly. I am not on here posting these reviews for fun. I am pointing out my real experience. Obviously your chef need a lesson in quality control and has gotten a little bit lazy. I am not trying to be mean or insult anyone. As a restaurant owner really think about what I am saying. This is a quality control issue. Cut a slice of the old biscuits and taste them and see if they are still good to serve to your customers. Throw out old veggies. It shouldn't take me as the customer saying "hey these veggies are all soggy and old" when it takes visual inspection to understand they are not of quality to be serving. It's a testament to how you run your kitchen. From the looks and taste of the food I received it's apparent there is serious lack of organization in the kitchen and food storage. I'll be back another time to give you another chance and we will see if you improve now that's it's starting to get into the busy season. Full disclosure-- I NEVER eat at the same restaurant twice when visiting a new place. Well, Cravings changed that for me. We ate here twice in a row during our stay at Lake Almanor. What usually checks the boxes for me is that the vegetarian options are plentiful, and some of them can be made vegan. Also, they have mimosas. Also, outdoor dining. Also mask-wearing during a pandemic. Those are my boxes. And they were all checked. To boot, Cravings is also has an adorable book store on site (or it is also a bookstore itself, I'm not sure). So, naturally we bought some books after enjoying a nice brunch. What I ate: 1. The "Chorizo" Eggs Benedict. The "chorizo" is actually soyrizo, and this benedict was delightful. I could eat this every single week. 2. The "Chorizo" Hash. Same idea here with the soyrizo. So yummy. And I upgraded to the "buscuit option" instead of toast. THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT! This is a giant homemade biscuit if I ever saw one! Served with butter and honey, this giant delight is not to be missed. What he ate: 1. A Cobb Salad. He was trying to be healthy on day one. It looked nice, and he ate it all. 2. Biscuits and Gravy. He was done "being healthy" and chose appropriately. If you want to splurge on your calories, get the biscuits and gravy. My mouth dropped at how luxurious and comforting this plate looked. What we drank: 1. A bottle of mimosas (yay!) 2. A double cappucino 3. A Mexican Cappucino Prices: TOTALLY FAIR. This was the best brunch I have had in a long time for the fairest prices I have seen in a long time. I couldn't recommend Cravings any more than I do. We worked up a good appetite after our morning hike and Cravings hit the spot. Recommended by a local, we were not led astray. - Corned beef hash ($13.95): Both the corned beef and the potatoes were really crispy. I dug the shredded corned beef instead of the usual cubes. With a couple over easy eggs on top, it was delicious. Also available in a half order. - French dip with coleslaw ($13.95): This actually seemed more like a cheesesteak with the mushrooms, onions and cheese served with the au jus on the side. I'm not complaining though. It was great! The French roll was an excellent vehicle to sop up all the jus. Loved the coleslaw, especially the bits of kale mixed in. It also wasn't overly dressed in mayo. Logan, our server, took really good care of us. Currently open for breakfast and lunch. Outdoor dining and to-go orders only at this (SIP) time. read more

Beautiful location, wonderful and helpful customer service, but the star of the show here is THE FOOD! My friend and I had the French dip (swap regular mayo for the Cajun mayo! You will thank me!) With a side of fruit. He had the mushroom Swiss burger and coleslaw. I can truly say the fruit was the best, juicy, ripe fruit I have ever had! Blood oranges were to die for! The sandwich was incredible, so much flavor! And I tasted the coleslaw, remember the home made coleslaw your grandma would make from scratch? Ya it's that flavor but just better! Went for breakfast mid-week after Labor Day. Not busy and we were delighted that the menu has some variety, plus some dishes have half or full size choices/prices, which is great. I wish more restaurants did this. The coffee was good and service was timely. I had the chorizo benedict and would recommend it to folks who dig a little chorizo in the morning. Neatened in the little town of Chester near the west shore of Lake Almanor, this charming little mom and pop shop is a diamond in the rough of what are really limited food choices in the area. Came here on Saturday of Labor Day weekend and with a fairly large party of 7, they were very accommodating and sat us right away. I ordered the traditional eggs benny, which came with hash browns. It was delicious and I eat at breakfast restaurants often. Hash browns perfect moist on inside and browned on outside. Hollandaise was perfection, lemony and bright. The rest of my party also enjoyed everything they ate. Prices were normal and didn't seem to be inflated like others I've been to recently. Side note, the little bookstore/shop that it's connected to is awesome too with all sorts of cool little gifts! Will definitely be back next time I'm at Almanor! read more

Made a stop at cravings when on the search for a breakfast sandwich. We had gone to Holiday- who recommended that we try Cravings- just across the street. I ordered the bacon cheddar egg croissant- it comes with mayonnaise and tomato but we added avocado. The food was prepared quick and was super tasty. I was able to eat 1/2 of the sandwich to start and had to eat the rest later as it was really filling. I also ordered an ice americano, with extra shots because am a coffee fiend. it was super yummy and the perfect amount of caffeine. I dont put any cream or sugar in it- so I got the full bean flavors. GIFT SHOP: The gift shop is full of novelty items both funny and functional. Worth the gander to kill some time or if you are looking for a gift while in the town of Chester. STAFF: The staff was very friendly, and were also very understanding when I made the mistake of ordering a coffee, only to miss the desire to have it cold. Adorned by small town charm brunch place on the small strip of Main Street of Chester, located over 10 miles Southeast of Lassen Volcanic National Park. A tree laden by hundreds of pears at the entry and facade decorated for Labor Day decorations, patio full with patrons and front is womaned by their smiling staff! ( I wonder if they have a dish with those pears as star?) We missed the outdoor breakfast but ordered a take out of Belgian waffles with sweet butter and customized So Cal Omlette and freshly brewed coffee. Everything was packed with a punch of flavors. It was a perfect breakfast before our hikes on a day with heatwave hitting California. We will surely plan ahead and make sure to dine in during our next visit. Carvings is the favorite place to eat in Chester. Our kids too for breakfast. We usually go for lunch.They make a great burger but EVERYWHERE here you can get burgers; we like that they have food BESIDES burgers! I had a delicious spinach salad with avocado, and my husband had a turkey sandwich with their wonderful house slaw. Tasty and healthy. We brought home half of his sandwich, as at our age (seniors) we don't eat as much. We ate outside under the shade of an umbrella and wisely put a small portion of turkey at the edge of the table away from us, so that a visiting yellow jacket went there to feed on the protein instead of heading to our sandwich, so we were left in peace. Based on the near five stars on yelp, and without wanting to take time to do a full read of all the reviews, I was expecting something more than a pretty basic diner. They have breakfast food, turkey and chicken sammich es, and burgers. The sides are salad, chips, fruit, slaw, or soup for an upcharge. My iced latte was in a hot cup, which seemed sort of weird, and it was fine. They have lemonade and iced tea but I definitely got the vibe that they wouldn't be fresh, so I passed. There's limited outdoor seating these days. Also pretty limited parking. They're pretty busy, and my sammich with a side of homemade tomato soup took about 15 minutes. The sandwich was fresh tasting, and pricy for the size. The soup was good, very basilly, and a bit oily. This seems like a good option in town, but not the five stars I'd been hoping for. read more
