The food wasn't the best for me I had to change orders twice and it still tasted bad the water doesn't taste fresh there was black stuff in it one of the servers was very rude and the French toast bread looks moldy and the avocado was old tasting and didn't look fresh they didn't come by to ask how the food was or if we needed anything.the only thing I recommend is the iced coffee or hot however you puffer. read more

Based on the near five stars on yelp, and without wanting to take time to do a full read of all the reviews, I was expecting something more than a pretty basic diner. They have breakfast food, turkey and chicken sammich es, and burgers. The sides are salad, chips, fruit, slaw, or soup for an upcharge. My iced latte was in a hot cup, which seemed sort of weird, and it was fine. They have lemonade and iced tea but I definitely got the vibe that they wouldn't be fresh, so I passed. There's limited outdoor seating these days. Also pretty limited parking. They're pretty busy, and my sammich with a side of homemade tomato soup took about 15 minutes. The sandwich was fresh tasting, and pricy for the size. The soup was good, very basilly, and a bit oily. This seems like a good option in town, but not the five stars I'd been hoping for. read more

Carvings is the favorite place to eat in Chester. Our kids too for breakfast. We usually go for lunch.They make a great burger but EVERYWHERE here you can get burgers; we like that they have food BESIDES burgers! I had a delicious spinach salad with avocado, and my husband had a turkey sandwich with their wonderful house slaw. Tasty and healthy. We brought home half of his sandwich, as at our age (seniors) we don't eat as much. We ate outside under the shade of an umbrella and wisely put a small portion of turkey at the edge of the table away from us, so that a visiting yellow jacket went there to feed on the protein instead of heading to our sandwich, so we were left in peace. Cravings is by far our favorite spot in Chester. If you haven't been you need to go. 1. They are local and locally owned. The owner is usually on site, takes orders, busses tables and all that jazz. I love seeing people believe in their business and help out their staff when they need help. 2. The staff is friendly and their usually isn't a long wait for your food. 3. The ice tea is probably the best tea I have ever had. They have multiple fruity flavors, along with classic ice tea. They also have a coffee shop inside if you'd rather pass on the tea and enjoy a cup of joe. But really, don't sleep on the tea. It's so so good! 4. The food is amazing. Most of the ingredients or dishes are made on-site/ homemade. For example the biscuits and gravy are homemade. Also please order the biscuits and gravy! It's so good. It's my usual order. Total was $17.16 with tax just water to drink. The sandwich was really fresh with truckee sourdough bread and a generous amount of meat. The tomato soup was fresh, sweet and just tasty. This is going to be easy. A great diverse menu all homemade and excellently prepared. A family-owned restaurant with heart... This friendly and caring staff cannot be beat. After a day of exploring Lassen national Park it is a wonderful place to drop into for a meal. Great espresso bar drinks. The chicken spinach wrap won't disappoint, wonderful very thin tortilla and the use of basil oil rather than too much basil just gave it that perfect flavoring without overpowering. And a wonderful selection of side dishes included. So if you're tired of the burgers that you get on the road or fast food this is the place. We rarely eat salad on our trips as you don't know what you'll get.. but their Cobb salad is one of the best you can find anywhere made with romaine lettuce not iceberg and plenty of goodies! While only open for breakfast and lunch, this is definitely a stop you need to make while in Chester or at Lake Almanor. Shared with the bookstore, this house turned restaurant is in the heart of downtown Chester. Cravings does classic breakfast comfort foods with small uniquely modern twists. I got the Settler's Breakfast, crispy hash browns topped with creamy sausage gravy, two eggs over ready, chopped bacon bits, and sliced green onions. Plus I added two sausage patties. It was a fun twist on biscuits and gravy! I should note that they do also have traditional biscuits and gravy. I loved the crispy texture of the hash browns against the creamy texture of the gravy and runny yolk of the over easy eggs. Having the texture variety made it less one note. My friend ordered the French and a side of scrambled eggs and bacon. They take extra care in soaking the bread in a vanilla cinnamon custard that makes it the best version of french toast you've ever had! I haven't been to Cravings for lunch, but I suspect you can't go wrong with anything you order from the breakfast OR lunch menu. The ambiance makes you feel like you've gone to your fun Auntie's house for breakfast, and honestly the staff is so friendly and kind of makes you feel like family. There's indoor seating, but also a beautiful shady outdoor patio right next to a beautifully flowing creek. Inside you're surrounded by incredible rotating art that's actually for sale. Definitely a favorite spot to visit while I'm in town. I promise you'll have a wonderful experience at Cravings! read more

Undeniably the best breakfast in town and it's not even the most expensive. Everything's great, thought the waffle machine has expired while we were there which was probably for the best. We went twice and everything else was excellent. Also, there is a little gift shop as part of the coffee shop in the front with some nice books and local crafts too. Great spot - visited for lunch on the way back in to Lassen Volcanic National Park from Chester. Loved that they had plenty of outdoor seating during this COVID-era. Appreciated that they enforced wearing a mask. Bathroom is clean. Service is friendly and quick. Food is great! My family ordered half portions of the reuben, goat cheese salad, club sandwich, and some sort of gravy breakfast plate. All good with quality ingredients - really loved the home made salad dressing. A friend and I stopped at Cravings (both first timers) for an early morning breakfast on June 25th. We were visiting Lassen NP from Southern California and stumbled upon the cafe. I ordered the breakfast croissant and he ordered the breakfast burrito. The barista came up to me a few minutes later to let me know they were out of croissants (really? I thought!) and so I had it on wheat bread instead. Amazing breakfast sandwich, the bread was perfectly toasted (extra crisp on the outside), the tomato was garden fresh, the bacon perfectly crisp. BUT I should have ordered the breakfast burrito - full of fresh grilled veggies. My friend said it was the best he ever had! The waitress/barista that helped us was warm, friendly and funny. Seated right away. Orders taken and food on the table in about 20 minutes. I ordered the basil tomato soup and grilled cheese about $12 with upgraded soup cup to bowl. The soup was good with basil, and made from scratch. It was good and healthy but didnt really leave me wanting to lick the bowl clean. They made me a sandwich on local wheat bread stuffed with cheddar and blue chesse, damn thats a winning combination and i recommend it to anyone. I licked the plate clean. Girlfriend ordered the special, shimp po'boy $12.95. Large white bread roll stuffed with slaw and large shrimp. The slaw was really good, we had a discussion on the tastyness and tried to figure out what made it so good. Sweet creamy vinaigrette? It had it all. The shrimp were large but over seasoned for my liking. So there are all sorts of food options on the menu that make me want to come back. Great fun options for the person with food restrictions including vegan and gluten free (indicated on the menu). You wont be stuck with a salad unless thats what you want. Choice sides include slaw, salad, or chips. I did not see french fries in fact i dont think there were many, if any, fried food options, REALLY nice to see! Im going to try their soy chorizo hash or so chorizo burger next time! This place is also a coffee spot and bakery so you can get all sorts of cinnimon rolls or gluten free brownies too. Wifi hotspot and you wont be kicked out if you decide to just hang out. I feel the pricing was reasonable for the quality of food, if your looking to treat yourself once a week or passing through town, or if your tired of subway sandwiches. I recommend a try. read more

Second time eating here and this time the food was just so so, I ordered the corned beef hash ( I'm a sucker for good hash) and my wife ordered the SoCal scramble both were like they were drenched in butter to the point we couldn't finish our food and didn't want the leftovers. Went here for dinner tonight. Great menu with lots of interesting options, and nice atmosphere with quaint outdoor seating area. But one complaint about my dinner - I specifically asked the waitress if the collard greens were cooked with meat (pork), and she said no so I ordered a dish that included them. A couple bites into them I discover there is pork in them. Not the end of the world for me but I am vegetarian, and it could be for someone if the staff doesn't know what is in the food and serves someone with an allergy or very strict diet. This should be basic waitstaff training - if you get asked a question about food and you don't know - ask the kitchen!! Don't guess!! Also, after mentioning it the waitress, it would have been nice if they offered me an alternative vegetable side dish since I had no desire to eat the collard greens, but they didn't.
