I called and asked if they did delivery and the salesman said yes, no problem. We could e-sign on one day and deliver the car I wanted the next day. The car I wanted had already been established. It was online as certified having a year of bumper to bumper and then several more years of powertrain. Being certified told me that it would be a clean car, have 2 sets of key, mats, books and next to zero blemishes. As we went through the approval process, I found out it wasn't certified and hadn't even been through the shop yet. The day of delivery got pushed back again. I asked the salesman about the keys , mats, books, and blemishes. He said it only had one key and ignored the mats and books. He said it only had one blemish on the front. I figured that into the deal. I used to be a manager in the car business, and I know someone who could fix that one. Days went by, and getting information was near impossible since when one manager was off, no one else knew how to follow up, apparently. They were supposed to deliver on Friday morning, the salesman verified late Thursday night. At 5am! , Friday, the sales manager sends a text to give him a call. The car was STILL in service and wouldn't be ready. I had sold my old car on Thursday based on. their word. We have 2 businesses to run and this was a company vehicle. I expressed severe displeasure to say the least and they ended up bringing it Friday evening. BTW, I had to pay for 3 years of warranty instead of two since the didnt honor what they had advertised online or even offer any discount at all to make up for it. The salesman spent a whole 60 seconds from my first phone call until the end going over features on the car. I had to spend 10 bucks and print out my own maroney window sticker to teach myself the car. The car showed up with no mats, no books, and all 4 of the wheels were damaged, 2 severely. The salesman had bold face lied to me. It did have a second key and the sales manager acted like it was a sacrificial gift even though they had advertised it as certified. Not honoring what you advertise is against the law and becomes an issue for the Attorney General. The salesman couldn't wait to be done and on his way. I acted like everything was OK since I know how to repair rims. My wife had just been through a severe personal trauma and I didn't want to upset her but I was livid inside. Had it not been for her, I would have told that lying, ,poor excuse for humanity of a salesman to pack up that scratched up piece of crap car and take it back where it came from. He thinks he's qualified to be a finance manager now but he's not even qualified to run a hot dog stand. And, if they are going to lie, then he and the sales manager should meet to get their stories straight. I caught him in several discrepancies even outside of the obvious and blatant. I bought from Koons in Easton before and had a great experience and gave great reviews and sent them customers. This place isn't that. Where I worked, everyone but the finance manager would have been taken off the floor and put in training.. I know because training was part of what I did as a manger. This salesman doesn't have the integrity or IQ to be a finance manager. He will get either himself or his bosses arrested because that position requires you know what you are doing and you are straight with people. Now, instead of doing my Saturday plans, I have to go repair this stupid car so I'm not embarrassed to anyone. The manager in an attempt to "make it right" offered a "free oil change". I just went along at first, but I am 2 hours away, so he just offered me something he knows he will never have to give and he thinks that makes everything better. He's no smarter than the salesman. Thanks for nothing Koons. One of the most disappointing, dishonest and incompetent car buying experiences of my life, and we've owned 50 cars in the last 40 years. read more

Was given an OTD price as well as VIN and stock number over email and agreed upon a day / time to purchase the vehicle. On the day I was going to come in and purchase the vehicle I received a call to confirm that I was in fact coming in. After confirming I received another phone call to say the car was sold the previous day but they would sell me more expensive models for "a great price!" Needless to say, even if you have everything in writing don't expect the price or anything else to be honored. read more

Finance Office Review- Do NOT buy extended warranty from here. I traded car in almost 2 years later - didn't even use it and received a portion of the refund back. Plus it took them 3 months to refund me after lots of pestering. The extended warranties are really a rip off if you think you may trade sooner rather than later. read more

Because i live 2 miles away, I have had my car serviced at Koons since i bought it 3 years ago. I would not recommend their service department to anyone who can avoid it. My attempt to finally get my Takata airbag recall taken care of has been a saga lasting several months. I have made an appointment, been reminded of the appointments by Koons, verified the appointments via phone, only to show up and be told they don't have the parts. Subsequent attempts have fallen into two categories: I leave a message with either their recall hotline or a service voicemail - no call back. OR I talk with a service representative (done this 3 times -last time with Edwin) who is either "too busy" or "needs to check with the parts department" and promised to call back - they have yet to call back. Just yesterday i got an appointment at another dealership to replace a Takata airbag in a different brand. It took 15 minutes. Don't waste your time with these guys. read more

Their service department lies, and they overcharge you. I was charged $130 for a standard (not synthetic!) for an oil change. My friend was only charge for $40 (no coupon used). They also charged me for rotation but it was not performed. (My tire has a lock and it was not touched, so I know.) Stay away from them. They try everything to overcharge you. Never do service here. Among 7 Mazda dealers in the DC-Metro area, this was one of the only two dealers that price matched my offer on the new Mazda 3 based on KBB's estimated invoice. The sales staffs were straight forward about the sale, and the transaction was smooth. They knew I did my research on the car, so your experience may vary. The only down side was that they appraised the trade-in a bit lower than I was quoted on multiple sources -- blue book, black book, TrueCar, etc. However, since I was tired of dealerships and didn't wanna drag it any longer, I just bit a bullet. One thing to note is that they later sent me a check of ~$200, saying that the new car registration and the title was cheaper than they estimated: It is something they could've just pocketed and forgotten about. I'm glad they did this, and shows who I was dealing with. All in all, I was satisfied by the purchase and this is definitely a better-than-average dealership. I just wish they appraised my trade-in as it was supposed to be. read more

I went in to test drive a CX-5 yesterday afternoon. I have done my research on both the CX-5 and the Mazda 3, as these are the two cars I am considering purchasing. I hardly got 100 feet from my car before the worst salesman of my life showed up, Lee. Typical questions ensued, what am I looking for, blah blah. I said that I am looking around, not looking to buy today, and want to test drive a CX-5. This led to a wild goose chase around the lot looking at different models of the SUV of which I felt I knew more about. He stated he was new to Mazda, but that makes no difference to me, you should know your product a bit more than your client. So we end up walking around the lot for 20 minutes for absolutely no reason. I did not sit in one of the cars we looked at or one of the cars with the options I wanted. Ended up test driving the one that was in the front of the dealership which was nothing special. He takes me inside and begins the show down. Taking my info and then getting pushy, throwing "deals" at me. Totally fake and the least genuine person I have met. He pushes a couple false situations of what could happen at me, walks away to talk to his manager I'm sure, comes back and shakes my hand and says have a good day. So rude. All I wanted to do was test drive a car and see what model might work best for me. What I got was a fake sales guy who thinks throwing out compliments about where I live at my age is going to make me buy a car. I liked the selection there, so I may be back when I do buy. But I can tell you I will be much more picky about who walks out that door to "help" me. read more

I went in last week to purchase my first brand new car (previously bought an old used Mazda with my mom 3 years ago from a Honda dealership in Tysons Corner and didn't know what we were doing) and came out four days later as happy as can be. I went in looking for a Mazda 3 because 1.it's cheaper than the 6 and 2. it has slightly better gas mileage. After test driving a 3 with a sunroof I realized I'm way too big for that car (5'10") so I tried out the 6 with a sunroof. Still felt a little cramped because the sunroof does take a bit of space away, so I asked to test the 6 without a sunroof. It was getting late so they let me take home the 6 with no sunroof for the night to test! I came back the next day to talk numbers and I didn't like the first offer, so we went back and forth just 2 more rounds and ended up about 87% of the difference down between their first offer and my original offer, so that was great (thanks Patrick)! (if that math/sentence makes sense.) I had to come back the next day because they didn't have the exact color combo I wanted, so they had to drive it in from another dealership. When I went to pick it up I had an issue on my part because the insurance wasn't the right coverage so I needed to hop off my parents' policy and get my own.. but it was too late to figure that out so I ended up having to come back the next day to finalize everything (got to take the car though!). Chad, the finance guy, was very nice and willing to work with me as I very painstakingly went through my thought process of whether or not I really needed an extended warranty... He was cooperative and I even brought in reinforcements (through phone) of my cousin who does financing and got him to agree to an even better deal! Gus(tavo) was my sales rep and was really awesome and didn't seem to be a "sneaky dealership guy" at all! He wasn't one of those sales guys who put on a fake smile just to get you to buy something, he genuinely seems like he just wants the customer to be happy. Also, he didn't make fun of me when he had to sit through my awful outdated iTunes music on the test drive after he showed me how to hook up the bluetooth to my phone... :) Even though it took four days (partly my fault :) ), the process was a lot less stressful than I thought it would be and I am very satisfied with the experience! I'm trying to get my sister to buy her used car through them because she's never purchased a car before and I know they won't take advantage of her inexperience. read more

This review is for the service department. I have a Mazda that was in bad shape. It's a 2013 CX-5. It was a relative's car and it was badly neglected. Wires were chewed, battery was rusted, etc. The worst part was it was filled with mold! I had everything fixed and the car detailed. They did an awesome job! I can't believe it's the same car. After test-driving different makes and on-line research, I have settled on Mazda. So, I sent a request for OTD price quote to 5 dealerships around Washington DC area. Based on my previous positive experience with Koon's Jeep dealership of Fairfax, I sent an email to Koon's Mazda of Silver Spring. I got an answer really fast: " My best offer is $200 under any written offer you have". I have nicely explained to John: " I am going to choose an actual best offer. I would like to reward honesty and not planning to play "beat this price" game.". John answered in pretty rude tone: "You asked for best your best price from us...you got it, so that just tells us you were taking our price to someone else - this is exactly why we have to offer $200 lowest off bottom line when dealing with price shoppers....you got exactly what you asked for! ". Masterful customer service skills! So, John blames me for playing games and actually encourages me to play this game. He wants me to go to other honest sellers, get price from them and come back to him so he can beat it. Very nice! Anyway, I did not argue anymore. After all John signs his emails: "Allow me to EARN your business". He probably knows well how to earn customers. Being rude to them, blaming them for something, encouraging them to be dishonest . I have received 4 offers from other dealerships. Two of them were very competitive and I have chosen one based on location and some other factors. I bought the car in two days after talking to John of Koons Mazda of Silver Spring. I have also scratched Koons off from my future buying. Do not go to this dealer. I had used them for my last 4 cars and had referred many people to them but will never refer to them again. My last experience has not only been beyond frustrating, my credit has dropped dramatically due to their error, I have been told the problem was fixed, and when I inquired about it I was treated so disrespectfully and rudely that I am uncomfortable contacting again them because I will be told to "calm down." I paid off my 3 year lease, they have the car, they have not been able to clear it with the lender. The lender has continued to report me for non-payment for the last 3 months for a car that is who knows where. I leased another car in December, it is April! I don't trust them and you should not either, go to another dealer. I am sure you don't want the headache I am having to deal with. read more

Upon arrival to the dealership, I was quickly approached by a salesperson, who was very pleasant, if not completely knowledgeable of the vehicle I was interested in. No problem, it's hard to know everything about a vehicle that has 6-7 different trim levels. I indicated exactly what I was interested in, and was walked around the lot to see what was available. We ended up on a test drive -- in the wrong trim! At some point they quoted a trade-in value, claiming it was directly from Kelly Blue Book. (I later checked KBB myself, and my search revealed that they had left off several items in my car, resulting in a 2K difference!) Once they identified where the desired trim was, we drove to an auxiliary lot to get it, and it wouldn't start! After returning to the dealership, I indicated that (after being there for 4 hours of shenanigans) I had another appointment and needed to leave. They tried to get me to leave a deposit (which I declined), and promised that they would have the vehicle brought over and prepped for delivery the next day. I agreed that I would return when they opened the next business day. The next morning, I arrived as promised, and the vehicle was still inoperable at the auxiliary lot. After about 90 minutes of sitting around waiting, they asked me to consider a higher trim level. I drove it, thought it fine, but not willing to pay more for options I didn't care about. We negotiated, and eventually agreed to a price. For some reason, it took them every bit of 90 minutes or more to get me in to financing and getting the newly selected vehicle prepped for delivery, making me late for another appointment. (Remember, this was supposed to be a quick transaction, with the car waiting for me.) So after spending 8 hours over 2 days at the dealership, I hopped in the truck and went home, only to find some very visible scratches on the passenger side door. When I contacted the dealership, they said that because I didn't pay for their paint warranty, there was nothing they could do, and even went on to say that I couldn't prove the scratches were there before I left. While that may be technically true, I find it completely unacceptable that they won't make this right. This added to the mess that transpired with the truck I was originally supposed to get being inoperable, I will never give them my business again, and will be advising family and friends to do avoid them as well. read more

We had an excellent experience in both selling our 2014 Mazda3 (for a very good price) and also buying a brand new MX-5 RF at Koons Mazda! Both Juan Machado (product specialist) and Sekou Keita (Sales Manager) were so easy to work with. They were able to go well above and beyond industry standards to tailor a deal to our specific needs. So often with car dealerships you find hidden costs, shady practices, and dishonesty. With Koons, however, none of those existed. They were straight forward, professional and fair. My car buying experience was nothing less then EXTRAORDINARY. An impossible situation I had been going through since December was made possible by these wonderful men at Koons (Ray, Simon and Steve aka Bobby Brown) and I am grateful that God was able to use them to assist me. I came in with the expectation of buying a cheap used vehicle and pay two car notes (my trade was totally upside down ) but INstead left with a brand spanking new shiny Ford which totally exceeded my expectations. Ray Gillespie who was referred by a good friend of mine took care of from start to finish, I mean he want ABOVE & BEYOND to accommodate me. He refused to accept impossible and so did Simon and Steve. They made it happen and at an incredible rate to top it all off. I tell everyone that will listen about my testimony. I recently bought a 2019 CX5 and worked with a new sales person who was poorly trained and told me my car would have features it does not have. We did not examine the car before I drove off the lot which was my mistake. I was given misinformation about the financial terms and sold a car that was not what we discussed. I have bought many cars in my life and never encountered such deceptive, unaccountable customer service in my life. I have tried to talk with manager, customer service liaison and had no follow through. While I love my Mazda I am just so sorry I bought it from Koons. Stay away!!! read more

One of the vehicle is a BMW they failed to disclosed a windshield repair that has been done twice, on my first outing with the car the shield repair came apart and since it been repair twice the windshield have to be replace. I have been wanting to buy the new CX30 for a bit now but I dreaded going to the dealership because I hate feeling "pressured" or dealing with sales people in general. Man oh man was I wrong, I worked with Jackie and she was amazing! She was honest, personable, she got me a great deal, and worked to make everything happen as quickly and painless as possible. And while I call out Jackie for her amazing service, so many of the other people working there provided the same level of friendliness and an eagerness to help out where they could. Dubious business practices in Service Department. On 1/28/17 took my Mazda 3 to the service department due to battery problem. I was told my battery would be replaced for free under warranty as the car was purchased new less than 3 years ago. I picked car up later that day and signed for a $47 charge for a secondary service they had recommended. 2 days later, they call me to say the battery wasn't under warranty and I owe them approx. $130. Sound like bait and switch to you?? I refused to pay and have written Koons Corporate office in Vienna, VA. Never knew until today the real meaning of, "We're gonna WOW ya!" UPDATE on 1/31/17. This Koons is not affiliated with the corporate office in Vienna. I spoke with Carol from customer service within Koons Silver Spring Mazda, she rectified the matter in my favor. She was kind and while I applaud her for doing the right thing in this case, I should have not had to expend my energy to get them to honor the price they quoted. To spare myself drama, I will find another service provider. read more

Took our car in because the guy who changed our oil and rotated our tires said there was something wrong with the alignment or suspension. We had James (one of the service advisors) at the Mazda service center help us. He was honest and had amazing customer service. I cannot recommend him any more. Normally I'm very skeptical of mechanics or anyone at these service centers but he was just so helpful and didn't give us anything we didn't need. read more

Went there after looking online at a 2016 Mazda 3. Initially was listed at $13999, and later dropped to $13800 online. Went twice, drove it twice and was willing to buy the car at $13800. With the usual add ons except they tried to tell us it was a "mistaken " listing and the car was actually $16500. They blamed the accounting department. Showed them other listings for the same model that were priced at the $14 K level give or take a few hundred. Their position was to double the fees they were adding on to make up for honoring the listed price. A serious display of BAD FAITH, and giving me the strong impression that they are not at all honorable businessmen. BTW the salesman involved seemed to be a decent man and truly embarrassed by his manager's(Rueben) behavior . Needless to say we left without closing on the vehicle. This is the kind of story that gives car dealerships a very bad reputation. One star is generous in this situation. BTW, went to another dealership later that day that did honor their online list price for the same car, purchased the vehicle and saved $2000.00. read more

Just had a great experience with Koon's service department. Went in as my check engine light was on (and I was about 2 yrs overdue for service). Turns out a mouse snuck into my engine & chewed up a bunch of wires. I worked with James, who was fantastic. When I went to pick up the car there was discrepancy with what was on the bill and what James had told me, so they called him (despite it being his day off) to rectify. I also thought I'd asked for a re-alignment to be done, but in the post-diagnosis conversation apparently that got missed. No problem - they offered to do it on the spot when I picked it up (without me even asking). Drove away feeling great about the people & service - feels like a new car again! read more

My wife and I bought a new Mazda 3 in January from this place. Their customer service is terrible. Firstly, they tried to tell us that a deal they had sent us in email already included a few other deals, so it didn't take the cost down by the $2000 stated in the email. After we explained to them that they hadn't stated that in their email, we then got the advertised discount in full, plus the extra they were trying to say weren't included. So after and hour of haggling and us walking out to drive off, they then gave us the price we wanted and said they would include free rubber car mats, so we bought the car. Now this is where another issue starts. When they were getting the car ready, miraculously the parts department for the mats was closed, which they would send out in the mail tomorrow. It is now April 25th and still no rubber car mats, despite having phoned and visited on multiple occasions, the last being 2 weeks ago when I spoke to the Mazda Sales Manager. Here are the excuses I have had so far: - The parts department is closed, we will send them. - We are out of stock of the mats, we will send them. - John, the salesman has now left and didn't make a note of them, but we will mail you some. - We will get them to you in the mail, we are really sorry. This garage is dishonest and I will actively discourage people from purchasing vehicles from them. The only saving grace is the car is awesome. read more

These guys are terrible. Went into the Mazda side of the house to test drive a CX-5. Found a 2016 that was a "dealer car" and decided to aim for that one instead of brand new. A few problems: Salesman said it was all-wheel drive, turned out it wasn't. Not a huge deal, maybe, but I want an AWD and, also, know the cars your selling for fuck's sake. Salesman said "I can get you a screaming deal on this one, AT LEAST 5 grand off of MSRP. AT LEAST." (In caps because he emphasized it so much). Test drive went fine -- it's a really nice car, it really is. So we went to talk about money. I hit the restroom and pulled up the MSRP posted online for the exact car I drove (matched the inventory number). The number he came back with was only $1,000 less than the MSRP that they invented for the offer sheet (not the AT LEAST 5 grand I was promised). More than that, though, the number he came back with was 5 grand MORE than the exact same car was posted for online. I confronted him with the number online, and he said "nah, that must be a different car." I showed him the model number. Same car. He needed to talk to his manager. Manager said they weren't going to honor the online price, and weren't going to budge off of the number they gave me. So, naturally, I bounced. And I won't be back. There is a TON of competition in this area for car dealerships. Do yourself a favor and skip the Mazda salesman at Koons. read more

After trying to decide how to rate Koons Mazda, having experienced extremes of service within one visit, I chose to let the actions and attitude of the Sales Manager (Jeremy) overrule the courtesy and professionalism that the sales associate Bill showed me. I chose to do this because, in the end, it is the sales managers that control whether a deal will be made or not. I started out this fine Friday morning with a call to Koons Mazda and spoke to BIll Forte. I told him I was looking at a very specific vehicle, had test driven similar models at other dealerships, and simply wanted to come in for a price quote. I also made it quite clear over the phone that I was not going to purchase today as I still had some financial things to sort out, but should be purchasing by Sunday or Monday. I got to the dealership, met with Bill, we talked for a moment, and then he left to pull the car up to the front of the dealership. I thought that was a nice touch so we could make sure the car I saw in person matched up with what I saw and imagined from online. He then said "lets take it for a test drive". When I told him I didn't need to because I had taken the same model on numerous other test drives, he said "it is company policy". I decided to grin and bear it and play along. After the test drive he took other quotes I had gotten from other dealerships to Jeremy, the Sales Manager. At this point, I was expecting they would give me there best offer in writing (which is something I asked for on the phone, and the only reason I made the trip out to Silver Spring.). Jeremy eventually came over, and tried pushing for me to buy right then, including talking about all the pricing tricks other dealerships pull. Guess he didn't realize that bad mouthing the competition raises a red flag that says "we are desperate and will stoop to any level to look better". I re-itereated I wasn't ready to purchase and was shopping for the best price, and if their price was the best, I'd be back on/before Monday to complete the sale. As he started to walk away (assuming he was going to print up a quote), he stopped, turned, and said "finish your shopping and bring me your best quote." I sat, flabbergasted for a moment. Then I said to Bill "guess I won't be back". Bill said "but he said he'd beat the price by $500" (the amount they'd beat it by was never stated). I said "and it is worth the paper it is written on..." considering I had nothing in writing, that is exactly what Jeremy's word was worth... Had they simply listened to the customer (instead of sticking to their script), they might still be in the running for the sale that is being completed Saturday at another Mazda dealer. But in not wanting to provide a written quote (when they were aware that was all I wanted to begin with at the point I was there), they lost the chance to even be in the running for the sale. UPDATE 12/27 - Mr. Brian Orlove (General Manger) contacted me, and provided me what I requested. Their price was very competitive. I did upgrade Koons from one star to two based on his courtesy and politeness. However, the dealing and situation does still leave a bit of a sour aftertaste. read more

I upped this to two stars because they attempted to follow-up with me, and told me that titles are a DMV issue. I totally understand that, but wish that Koons had explained to me how the title and tags would be issued when I bought the car. I was never told to contact the DMV directly. I was told that Koons would handle the entire process. They even asked me for my forwarding address so they could send me everything. But apparently they shouldn't have told me this because the DC DMV will only send a title directly to the owner. Anyway, it's been a total nightmare getting all this done. I will give Koons some credit for trying to explain things, even if it did take writing this review to get a response. Again, if not for the follow-up issue, I would be giving this dealership a much higher review because the buying experience was quite positive, especially compared to other dealers in the area. read more

This is the third time I've been wowed by koons ford of silver spring, i recently purchased a new Ford Taurus from koons and I must say the experience was the best since ive been buying cars, additionally I took a trip to North Carolina this past weekend and wanted to get my oil changed even though it was not scheduled for one for another four or five months, my service advisor was Felix Rosa and I can't say enough things good about this young man, he did everything he said he'd do and in a very timely manner, koons needs more like this service advisor, he is certainly one of koons stellar employees, give him a huge raise, thank you Felix and keep up the good work on and off the field. read more

This review is for my experience with Saleman, Anthony Senga. Had a great experience working with Anthony and he was the reason I kept coming back to the dealership to look at Mazda 3s. Ended up getting a car after 3-4 trips working with Anthony and I am glad he was my salesman. After the last test drive, the low tire pressure light came on and I discovered a nail was in the tire. We had a super positive experience at Koons Mazda. Denard, our sales associate, was really great. This is the only dealer that I was able to call, they asked what I wanted to pay for the car and said yes without any "Well, just come down to the lot and we'll make you the best deal". Denard came in on his day off because we had to buy on a short time frame (we're taking a 700 mile trip this weekend). When I arrived, the price was EXACTLY what we had agreed upon. Actually it was the very lowest-end of the range we discussed, so the price was slightly LOWER than what we agreed on. No last minute surprises like pinstripes or bumperguards or clearcoat that cost extra, incentives that I don't qualify for, or an exorbitant finance rate. We really needed a solid family car (we got a 2012 Mazda5) and he understood that it's not just a car to us; it's what our family travels in. All in all, I give top marks for honesty, service and attitude. They also have a rockin' coffee machine with free freshly-ground and brewed coffee!! If you are buying a car in Silver Spring/Burtonsville/South East MoCo definitely give them a call before you buy elsewhere. read more
