Three rolls of
Stephanie C.

Very fresh sushi, sashimi comes with rice. Love the ambiance here. They have bar seating too!

Linda T.

The avocado in the salmon and avocado was clearly not ripe enough, and hard. Felt like I was eating a cucumber. Ambiance, while comfortable, but the food was unfortunately not par. Braised pork belly was juicy and big pieces. We ordered 2 rolls each, with an underwhelming avocado. I normally love avocado and get avocado when I go out to eat.

It's a very nice place. We got a sashimi sushi combo which cost 48 dollars. It came with a tuna roll and 6 different pieces of sashimi. There was also an assortment of fish on the side as well. Our selection came with miso soup. We didn't like the soup. In fact the miso separated from the broth abd the tofu was cold for some strange reason. We also ordered yhe shrimp shumai andvit came with three pieces. It was delicious. Our sashimi and sushi was okay. It wasn't the best because it wasn't the freshest. We would come back but stick to the appetizers and pick our own rolls. Service was okay. The place is busy though and many people seemed to know what to order. Next time I would try the mushroom soup which several tables had and it came in a teapot. Mera's Tip: appetizers

Sometimes I want to treat myself to some good sushi, but don't feel like splurging on omakase. Kondo hits the spot for that! I usually go early in the evening -- around 5:30p or so -- because unless you have a reservation, you'll be waiting for a table by 7:00p. If you're lucky enough to sit at the counter, you'll get to see them prepare the sushi, which is mesmerizing on its own! The service is quick and polite, and the food is excellent: order more fish, less rice. The fish really is delicious, clean and doesn't have that slippery, slimy texture that you find with cheap sushi.

Black cod

We got the grilled black cod and the sushi Sashimi combination. Surprisingly, the black cod stole the show - such tender meat that paired well with the flavored scorched skin and exterior. I could eat 3 portions of this. The combination was standard - pricey for the portion size but they had nice touches such as different garnishes for the sashimi.

Delicious appetizers and fresh sushi! Really enjoyed the fried oysters, takoyaki and okra crisps appetizers, the sushi sashimi combos were a great variety of fresh fish! All perfect with bottle of sake, service was very friendly and they spoke in Japanese welcoming & saying goodbye. Really nice warm vibe, will come back again!

Kondo is a long-time neighborhood staple known for its endearing and professional staff. Great rotating menu with plenty of classics, as well as more rarely seen items. Best to visit with others, to enjoy a range of options. Portions trend smaller, allowing you to try different things. Wonderful date spot, low-key no frills interior that feels tucked away without being dark, and somehow is reminiscent of nineties New York restaurants.

Great ambiance and seems to be a small restaurant, so best to reserve when you can! I liked the lighting because it was great for taking photos haha. The sushi is fresh and their starters are also delicious especially the grilled calamari. The service was great too and attentive with refilling water and checking in with us. We enjoy everything we ordered and shared it all.

It was ok, the pork belly and shishito peppers where great but the fish dishes like the sashimi, black cod was normal, not that fresh and shrimp where not ok, dry and very disappointed. I'm sorry but I was expecting more especially since the place was empty.

Chicken Teriyaki

Went during one of their monthly performances. This time around, since it's July, got to see one based on the Tanabata festival! It was cool to see the other patrons get really into it, you can tell they are regulars and come back for a lot of shows. The dessert menu looked so good and the chicken Teriyaki was some of the best I've ever had!

I've been to Kondo many times over the years ever since my Japanese friend recommended it in Astoria area. Recently we came back for dinner after over 2 years gap since pandemic and I was glad that the sushi/sashimi are still good as I remember. The restaurant is not too big, the quiet and soothing environment makes it really comfortable to dine here. There are seatings at the sushi bar, and table seatings are space out even before pandemics, The servers at Kondo are always kind and polite. The quality of the raw fish are fresh and pretty good at their price point compared to several others Japanese restaurants in Astoria/LIC area. I can always get a decent sushi/sashimi fix here and leaving with a happy stomach!

Cute Japanese restaurant tucked in Astoria! This place is easily missed because of the lack of decor or window display. They tables are further inside the restaurant. Not sure if we were hungry or if we just wanted to order everything on the menu. (Not pictured) Clam in a sake broth. This was on the special menu and they ran out of clams so they only gave and charged us for a half portion. 10/10 would recommend you to get it if it's on the menu! The clams were sweet, CLEAN! Not sandy at all. Everything was amazing EXCEPT for the fried squid leg salad. I love squid so we decided to try it out... the squid was fine and tender but the salad was lacking. It was just a basic green (regular lettuce salad). It also didn't look or taste like a sesame dressing which we were disappointed about. I would not order this again despite my love for squid.

Strawberry Parfait

My favorite spot for sushi in Astoria! I love the staff here, very nice and accommodating. Kondo is perfect for date night. If you want a nice sampler, the Sushi Regular is perfect. My boyfriend likes to get the Sushi Delux, it's a little more filling and has a few more specialty pieces. They have delicious miso soup as well. For dessert we tried the Strawberry Parfait -- a wonderful option for anyone who likes berries and cream. It comes with a cornflake bottom that's a fun bite.

The restaurant is quite small, with one table that seats 4, and seating at the window. There are 2 small tables outside, as well. Be careful when you go inside because there is a step after you open the door. Packaging was convenient with the handle around the sushi box. Overall, the fish was mediocre considering the price. Some pieces were soft while others were very stringy and chewy. I am not one to dip sashimi in soy sauce because I like to just enjoy the natural flavor of raw fish with a little wasabi. However, since the fish was a bit fishy, I needed a little soy sauce to mask the taste. The wasabi was also on the mild side, so I added more than I usually would. I would have rated this place a 3/5, if I did not find a hair sitting on top of the ginger...

Noz Market fits an ever diminishing niche of good quality sushi and ambiance at a somewhat decent price point. I got the $155 option which was enough to feel full. The Chase Sapphire Reserve dining credit is applicable here, which is very helpful. The service was really good. I noticed that crumbs were dealt with expeditiously and my ice water never went empty. The tuna egg yolk appetizer was decent. The ten pieces of nigiri were as follows: 1. Scallop 2. Squid 3. Golden eye snapper: kinmedai 4. Horse mackerel: aji 5. Japanese bonito: katsuo 6. Rock shrimp 7. Yellowtail: buri (Note: I've never seen this, usually see Hamachi which is less mature) 8. Bluefin Tuna: akami 9. Chu toro 10. Oh toro The uni course was Hokkaido uni. Not as unctuous as Santa Barbara, but still good. The toro taku hand roll was a good size. It was toro with pickled yellow radish. The miso soup was very savory. I feel like there was some faint mushroom taste. I ordered two supplemental prices. Sea bream (Madai) and Knife jaw (Ishidai). They taste similar but I like the texture of the latter a bit more. I'd never had this before. Hojicha green tea. Strawberry cheesecake was delicious; however, diners this night did not get matcha Mont Blanc like others wrote about, which was a slight bummer.

They offered two different option a $90 course option and a $155 course option and you choose which one you want when you first make the reservation. Highly recommend making a reservation when you come here because it did fill up on a Monday evening. The sushi chef was very professional but did not really chat with us - he made each piece and then told us what each piece was and that was pretty much the extent of the conversation. The quality of the fish was really good and the rice was nice and warm. They offer you extra items that you can order at the end and I highly recommend getting a toro or crab handroll at the end because they were both delicious. For the $155 option it does come with a Matcha Monte Blanc as a dessert which was pretty yummy and it was a nice touch since not all omakase places come with a dessert at the end. Everyone was very friendly and professional here and I do recommend checking this place out. It did not feel like they were rushing you out the door!

Chefs are distributed evenly for parties allowing for a fairly intimate setting but with efficient service. The restaurant had multiple areas set up as such. The omakase serves many typical offerings starting off with hamachi, kanpachi, shima aji, and kinmedai. They do clearly ask about rice and wasabi preference in size throughout the dinner which is quite considerate. Drink menu was fine with a number of sake options including the chefs sharing glasses throughout the meal! The fish tasted good and fresh, rice was fine though nothing memorable. Middle courses had uni, ikura and snow crab - good courses and filling. Finally we ended with the premium courses - toro caviar and a5 Wagyu with uni. I would've preferred the toro/wagyu alone and is just my personal preference that the gourmet add ons don't enhance the piece for me. Otherwise they were very good. You then have the option to order additional courses including extras off the menu. Overall sushi by m is an excellent value for the omakase course and quality of fish. The dining experience is quite hospitable towards each party and chefs are quite engaging. I would definitely recommend for casual omakase experiences!

At first glance, it almost looks like a real tank. The menu was extensive, albeit pricey. We made the mistake of not sitting at the bar for the Happy Hour specials, but it was kind of crowded. Instead we got seated. We shared calamari and a California roll, and my husband had tuna sashimi. I had a miso soup and the Wagyu fried rice. I'd give this place 6 stars if I could for the ambiance and wow factor. But what was disappointing was the Wagyu fried rice had almost microscopic bits of beef. I guess I should have expected that for only $16. Calamari was excellent. So was the soup. California rolls were okay. In total our bill was $164 which seemed like a lot considering we didn't even leave stuffed - just comfortable. I get that we were paying for the location and scenery - if we ever go back we will sit at the bar and do the happy hour deals. In all - upscale, cozy and high quality. I'm sure it attracts a lot of locals. But I'd rather go to one of the many great sushi places in Hell's Kitchen for more food, less money.
