Great service, but not great expensive tiny food portions and really really loud patrons. Mushy rice, old vegetables, fryer tasting food. Both of us ended up leaving after eating and ordering full double burgers AFTER we had an entire lunch there. Oh and FYI there hamachi kami is DEEP FRIED and tastes like fryer; the multigrain rice was WAY mushy and overcooked. (I should have sent this back. Ridiculous.) This is the sushi special $38 before tip. You get 10 pieces of nigiri (and miso soup), and while the fish is good quality and the rice was seasoned well, it just feels a little barebones. No roll included, no garnishes to dress it up, and the ponzu side I ordered was spilled all over the bag. Everything was fresh and tasty, and the service was good (I did have a little trouble flagging down the server for the check at the end, but who cares?). Nice atmosphere, quiet. Came for the lunch special and ordered 3 sushi rolls, Eel with cucumber, salmon with avocado and fried sweet potato. All rolls were a delicious bite size. It also came with soup or salad and I chose the salad which was a big size but the dressing was amazing. I ate the whole bowl. The salmon and avocado roll was really good, the salmon was like melting in my mouth it was nicely fresh. The service was really good and attentive, i didn't wait long for my order so I was so satisfied with everything. I definitely will come back especially for lunch time! The restaurant is not as spacious the tables are close to each other but they have booths too. In a city filled with high end omakase and subpar local spots, it's always refreshing to find a good neighborhood sushi takeout spot to add to the rotation. They're harder and harder to find these days. We ordered a handful of basic rolls ( spicy tuna, shrimp tempura , California etc). All were good / fresh. Good sushi rice. Starters were good too. While I haven't had a sit down meal here yet (likely to come soon), their delivery / take out has been consistent. Some good notes for my fellow, local sushi lovers: -Fish quality here 4.5/5. I've had the pleasure of trying most of what they have on the menu sushi-wise, and it's all been great. I don't love white fish sushi (i.e. mackerel or yellow tail) and they do it well here -Rice quality is 5/5. Bad rice ruins rolls and nigiri, and they never miss here -If you have allergies (which my wife does), they are very accommodating The only reason Amura is a 4/5 v. a 5/5 in my book is due to quantity. I ordered a "Sushi for 2" last night and probably could have consumed two of these on my own. Sure, you get what you pay for, but just keep that in mind. If you're looking to impress a date / spouse / partner for a "sushi for 2", then more is truly more in this case. read more

Met up with a friend for a quick dinner and opted for Amura as a convenient, sushi place nearby. I ordered the yellowtail don which comes with a soup or salad. I always love the salad dressings at Japanese restaurants so it was a solid salad. The yellowtail don included a scoop of sushi rice and about 10 slices of yellowtail don. Be aware that it might look a little like chicken sashimi (lol) but it tasted fine! My friend ordered the salmon don and I personally liked the taste of the salmon more. It's a decent amount of fish and I left feeling comfortable. They have tons of sushi roll options so definitely something for everyone! Wow! I love it here! There are so many Sushi places in the neighborhood, and I finally came to this one- and boy, was I surprised as to how good it is! I was seated and given a menu, I order a cold beer and hot Saké, I perused the menu and order Edamame, some Nigiri Sushi, and 3 rolls. Everything was fresh, well-made, and had substantial portions! We got sushi & sashimi platter for 1 -- which is heftier than it looks -- the tuna lover and sea scallops a la carte. The scallops were super delicious, well worth it. Both the platters were great, containing both rolls with sashimi in it, nigiri, and sashimi slices. Each dish was a very good portion size and price and definitely filled us up. They have daily specials plus plenty of fish you can order a la carte, plus lots of non-raw options as well. All in all, it was great Japanese restaurant and the fish was fresh. So... salad and miso good, small appetizers (shumai, roll) were okay, steamed veggies were a bit undercooked even for me, a person who does eat them crunchy. The bad part was the main, the shrimps seemed to be cooked first with some flour coating which made them hard-dry-ish, not tender at all, Maybe it was way overcooked. I didn't like it.
