Spam Musubi
Bradley L.

I stopped in on my way to work because I've had great coffee experiences in Hawaii and was curious to see how Kona Reserve stacked up. I ordered the Lavender Bloom oat milk latte (lavender syrup, vanilla syrup, and cinnamon powder), and it struck a nice balance--not overly sweet or overpowering, just smooth and comforting. I also grabbed a spam musubi and expected it to be chilled and grab-and-go, but it came out piping hot. I ended up eating it while I waited for my drink, and I'm glad I did--saucy, flavorful, and really satisfying. Only surprise was that there weren't any musubi out in the case, so I wasn't sure they had any at first. The shop had a few island-inspired touches, but the overall vibe was clean, white, and modern. The team behind the counter was quick, efficient, and welcoming. Not overly energetic, perfect energy for me on a morning stop. I don't usually make it over to that stretch of Richmond in the mornings--there are a ton of coffee spots in the area--but Kona Reserve could be a great option if you're looking for a solid cup of joe and some island flair snacks. Bonus: there's free parking in the attached garage, which makes popping in quick and easy.

Better service than my first visit a year ago. The baristas were attentive and friendly. The Vietnamese coffee was pretty good. It wasn't as strong as I like but I would order it again. I also ordered a vanilla latte which was less sweet and more balanced than many others I've had. Still a bit pricy but worth it for great coffee.

Tea and macarones

We picked this place because we love Hawaiian coffee! The parking was street parking and behind the location. This place is beautiful!!!! So clean, sleek, modern! Very quiet, literally everyone was on a laptop, no talking. I got a dirty chai latte with oatmilk and it was very creamy! No complaints. We were a table of 5 people so we were chatting and having a great time! Upon leaving the owner actually introduced himself to us and asked us about our experience. We gave positive feedback and he thanked us! We don't live in Houston and picked this for our love of Hawaiian coffee and it was such a good choice. Upon coming to yelp too worried my review, i see that there is a location in north Dallas (frisco) that I'll have to go try as that is where i live! I am excited!

Always an unbelievable quality bean, nitro is amazing here, 16oz for 3.70$ is an insanely good price for this quality, be sure to double your order! So glad they're finally near me!!

Tried the kailua latte and I love that the coffee was strong, but still flavorful. Service was super quick!

Royal Kona milk tea

Continuing my tour of Houston spots to work on my dissertation, I found myself out at Kona. Its a very bright, quiet spot that was conducive to working (wifi, outlets, chairs/tables). It wasn't the largest space but it wasn't overly crowded on a Saturday afternoon. This is a Hawaiian coffee shop that's located in a sort of businessy area. Its on the first floor of some sort of office building so there's some other food places as well as attached, underground parking (which is free). I ordered the royal kona milk tea and really enjoyed it (more than some boba shops in the area). The tea was very smooth and creamy and it had a slight floral hint to it. I would definitely come back just to get more milk tea! They also have quite a few options for coffee, which all sounded excellent. You could even get some lunch/snack options like sandwiches and spam misubi.

Aloha Latte, Kailua Latte and Chocolate Muffin
Meris R.

I needed a pick me up, so I stopped by for lunch. I got two coffees and a muffin for $20, yikes. I was excited to try this place since I fell in love with the macadamia coffee from Hawaii, when I visited a while back. To my understanding/surprise, they don't serve that kind of coffee. I was a bit disappointed but still wanted to give their two most popular orders a try. The Aloha latte has macadamia syrup, and I just subbed oat milk. It came out ok. The Kailua latte has more of a cinnamon taste, which was a big overwhelming but still decent. The chocolate muffin was warmed up, but still cold in the center. A pretty basic muffin. The inside is really nice. It gives a nice chill vibe to come and work or hang with friends.

Spam musubi

I'm a fan of Hawaiian-inspired coffee shops. It's too bad that I don't work in Greenway plaza anymore otherwise this would be my go-to coffee place. Love the chill vibe here. You can park in the garage which is free parking. A good spot to do work or study. Plenty of tables to sit at. I ordered my favorite iced chai with a classic spam musubi. I love spam musubi in Hawaii so I was excited to see it on the menu. Good rice ratio to the spam and it came out warm. Services were friendly and quick. Looking forward to coming back to try more of their coffee and musubi.

Lavender Bloom coffee. Sweet but delicious.

Disclaimer: I'm on a hunt for the best cafe to work from as I'm working remote. My review is based on factors for a good place to work from and not necessarily the coffee or food. Overall good cafe for work and coffee. Noise level - 55db quiet Wifi speed - 27 down 31 up Power plugs - more than 12 Seats - 40 indoors Parking - free covered garage 10 lots The menu has lots of coffee choices. The coffee is delicious. The service was great the barista was friendly. Coffee came within 5 minutes. I was able to take a zoom audio call with ease. The 2 restrooms are also super clean.

I must say this place surprised me. My husband and I decided to come here after an early appointment because we needed coffee. I usually just order a regular latte but I saw that the aloha latte had macadamia flavor and I like this flavor so I went ahead and splurged. I thought I was going to regret it but it was delicious and it gave me the jolt I needed to jumpstart my morning. My husband got the kailua latte and it was good also. I am docking one star because their coffee is pretty expensive. The aloha latte and kailua latte were $6.90 each. They also have gelato, spam musubi, pastries, and sandwiches. They have a free parking garage behind the coffee shop. Overall, I recommend this coffee shop and I'm looking forward in coming back here next time.

Driven past this place a couple of times after shopping at Costco and finally had the chance to try it. First off parking isn't bad as they have a covered garage free for guests. Always nice when you can park your car especially when it's protected from the horrible Texas heat. As the name suggests, this is a Hawaiian inspired shop. Not entirely sure if they're from the islands, but the place is decked out in Hawaiian decor. The drink and food menu also reflects the Hawaiian inspiration, they even have multiple options for musubi. They also offer pastries, sandwiches and even gelato! They have plenty of seating so you can de get some work done here. They also have a few outside seating. I got the iced Kailua latte and my wife got the Aloha latte - both drinks were extremely good. The aloha was probably my favorite. The combo of white chocolate and macadamia with their espresso was so decadent it's the perfect "sweet coffee drink". Overall pretty cool Hawaiian inspired coffee shop. The workers were friendly and the drinks are pretty good. I will say we did pay almost $7 per specialty drink which is a little steep for me. I say definitely check them out and get a little bit of aloha in your coffee.

Fun themed drinks, nice staff, and cute spot but they close pretty early. And you need to park in the garage and then walk over.

The oat latte my friend got was creamy, well balanced and wonderful. We got the eggs, sausage, and cheese taco, chicken gumbo empanada, and the beef empanada and each one was delicious. The breakfast taco really hit the spot. Just right amount of salty, gooey cheese, and meat. Made my day. The empanadas are huge, enough for two people. Another awesome visit.

Grinder's Coffee Bar came up and it was right across the street so I made my way over. I arrived around 1 p.m. on a Wednesday. I parked in their small complimentary lot and made my way inside. Ambiance (3.5/5): Grinder's is basically two spots in one. When you walk in, there's a small counter where you place your order. And a handful of seats. From there, you wan walk into a more spacious second room that houses a CBD shop. And more seating along with the bathroom. I sat at a couch in the CBD area. While weed isn't my thing, if you're into both weed and coffee, that makes for a nice one-two punch for you. There isn't a ton of seating, less so than most coffee shops. Luckily, since it was a weekday, I didn't have any trouble. I wonder if that's different on the weekends. They also have free WiFi if you'd like to linger and work or study. Service (2.5/5): The menu is a little confusing because they have a menu on the counter and a menu on the wall with different items. I didn't see that there was a menu on the counter until I was about to place an order. They also have some beverages in a cooler that aren't on either menu. Not the best set up. Service wasn't terribly friendly either. Food (N/A): Since I just had lunch prior, no food for me. They have a small, but appetizing number of pastries and small bites for sale if you get the munchies (pun intended). Drinks (3.5/5): I'm not a coffee drinker so take this with a grain of salt. When I go to a coffee shop, I like coffee shops that still have a nice selection of teas and juices. Grinder's has a small number of teas that can be made either hot or iced. I went with one, iced, and sweetened with agave (for a surcharge). I liked it and the price was reasonable. They also had a mocktail of sorts that was available on their seasonal menu, although like most mocktails, overpriced. While not really my vibe, if you're a CBD person, Grinder's will be right up your alley. It's a unique spot and located in a great part of town.

From a chat with the barista, I learned that Duo started because the husband had a love for coffee and the wife had a passion for pilates, so they thought "why not combine the two?" The River Oaks location is the founding store and they have since expanded to a second location as well. The people who work here truly seem happy and are eager to share the stories of their founders, which makes the place even more special. During my visit, I tried the birthday cake latte, which is a seasonal drink, and the flavors were also beyond what I've tried elsewhere. I'm typically not a fan of birthday cake flavored items, but I was feeling adventurous so I told the barista to surprise me with a drink from their menu and that's the flavor they ended up picking for me. When I received the birthday cake latte, I wasn't all that excited but all prejudice fell away after the first sip! I didn't adjust any sugar or ice levels like I typically do for my drinks, yet the drink was just right! Overall, I am just amazed by the people, the vision, and the gem of a place that I sort of happened into on a random weekend. I will definitely be returning again frequently for pilates, lattes, and/or fun conversations. Pro tip: initially it looks like visitors have to use street parking, but I confirmed with the staff that the parking lot across from the coffeehouse is free to use as well. Pro tip #2: there is option to order ahead with the QR code in image attached. I have not tried, but that may help skip the lines and make it easier for drink pickup.
