We've been with Kona for nearly 8 years recently we moved out of the country and stayed with Kona to care for our pool until our home sells. Last week our pool tech Trevor notified me by text that our pool water level was getting low. I asked him to check the automatic fill valve to which he did and reported back that it was stuck. Trevor is to be commended for his detailed approach and follow through as well as follow up and communication with me. He likely saved me over a thousand dollars due to avoiding a fried pump. Since I've moved out of state, I feel safer to share an email from Dustin, owner of Kona Pool. He was using a picture of my pool to advertise his company even after poor service. I never gave him permission to do this and repeatedly ask him to remove the pictures. At one point, I advised him if he continued to use the pictures, I felt compensation from his company was in order, as this is my private property. You can also see the problems I had with Kona in previous reviews. I am an elderly woman and was going through health challenges during this time. Dustin sent threatening emails and bullied me when I called him out on his poor or lack of service. He threatened legal action when I posted the poor review here. This is Dustin's last email to me. I'm not trying to take business away from Kona Pool, but I think folks need to be aware of how he operates, especially if you are an elderly person. "No what you will do is inform me if you see anything else now! No one has agreed to your terms and if you continue to harass me, my employess, or my customers you will get to spend your days dealing with that instead of being a troll on the internet. Woke up one morning late last week to water spewing from my automatic pool cleaner gearbox. I don't currently have a pool service so I cold called Kona based on their Yelp reviews. I'm so happy I did. Sara had me send over some pics of the faulty equipment and a short time later had a recommended fix and estimate. Parts were ordered same day and as soon as they came in a technician was dispatched. We used Kona Pools to reconstruct our pool. The shape is the same but now we have everything new (not concrete), The first visit that we had was with Sarah, business manager and Ernie, associate. Sarah explained what they could offer to usand a rough estimate of the cost. They were easy to understand and professional. They said they the pool could be ready in about a week. That was much faster than we expected. My husband and I spoke and we decided that Kona Pools was our choice. Sarah came immediately when we called to approve their company for the construction. She asked us tiles, plaster and several other items. We discussed almost everything that they needed for the construction. The workmen arrived everyday early in the morning (5:15; 6:15) and left by noon. Today our pool had its final inspection and the chemicals were put into the water. The first month's service is for free. We have new equipment. They did not have to replace a part (we would not have know) and they reduced the final amount for that part. I watched everyday when the workers were working on their specific area of expertise. Each group looked like they had worked together for a long period of time. Sarah or Ernic listened to our concerns and addressed them. Their recommendations were correct. Never made us feel unhappy because we expressed our concerns. We love the finished product. That bandaid only cost me 80 bucks that was only some o rings causing the bubbles leaking into the pool. And you guys insisted my entire filtration system needed to be replaced for 2.000 which when I tried to get you to fix instead of replacing you refused to service us after close to 5 years or longer of doing business with you. You didn't even stop by to take a look or anything so this at first actually really hurt my feelings because we trusted you. Spent more time dealing with poor work, no work and lying and they eroded 10 tons of dirt into my neighbors driveway after they where told to be aware of erosion. This was our 1st and last pool service, our numbers where worse with this "professional service". Then to add insult to injury they actually had the nerve to send a bill. Horrible experience. Save yourself the headache. Do it yourself. It's cheaper and easier. read more

I strongly encourage you to NOT use this company. They can't keep good help and they don't care about their customers. I have been a long time, good customer and have full service which includes chemicals AND cleaning on a weekly basis. Not to mention that their prices went up...so I'm now paying well over $100 a month for NOTHING. Last week their employee came by and was here for 5 minutes...they never even bushed the pool. After he left,  I immediately brushed it. A few days after that, I shocked it (because it was turning green), with MY shock...It got progressively worse. The next week (mind you, they come out weekly) when the same cleaner came, it was COMPLETELY GREEN. I'm working from home and can see them attempting to do NOTHING. The owner nor manager never even called to provide guidance. So a couple days later, I spray in Revive (which I bought and I did myself...and which works great)...but I need them to vacuum it off the floor. I contacted them, but they don't even have the courtesy to call me back in a timely manner....after THEY left my pool green. It's now Friday and I can't even swim in my pool over the weekend. This isn't the first time, I've contacted them previously (a couple months ago) expressing my dissatisfaction and the response I got was "well, if you can find someone else who can do better, then you should go with them"...and THIS is how they treat a long time, good customer. So I encourage you to heed their advice and find SOMEONE ELSE who can do better....because they're right, it's NOT KONA. I only wish I could have given them a negative star, because that's what they truly deserve. Please learn from my mistake, go with another reputable company...Kona is not it..they're supposed to be the experts, and clearly (no pun intended) they are not. I'm not one to take to social media, the BBB or any other channel to complain.  But this is an exception. I've given them ample opportunity to acknowledge and fix the problem. But, as I continue to pay them on a monthly basis, they continue to cash my check on a monthly basis, all the while, they continue to ignore the problem...on a weekly basis. Our pool pump motor died, so I reached out to Kona Pool Service. Their technician came out first thing in the morning and replaced the motor and made sure the everything was running efficiently. I was impressed with their fair prices, efficiency and the fact that they didn't try to sell us products we don't need. I highly recommend using Kona Pool Service. I highly don't recommend these guys. They had so many issues. First my entire winter pool was green. When I finely combined owner said its probably my fault cause I have alot of trash or toys in pool. He stated this because he remembered my last house he said. After I complained he wanted to point finger at me. He checked pool on next visit and found out there was clog in line. Not my fault. Next he had a worker who wore inappropriate apparel . I complained and he said he let's them wear what they want. But the final straw was he left pool gate open. I have 4 toddlers who go outside every day. None can swim. I cant even imagine what could have happend had I not noticed it was open after his service. They honestly did nothing good. Pool was always dirty . Owner Sam is not a customer service person at all. I've read the reviews for this company and I must say that the people that are giving them must be paid. I have been using this company for three months and I only have complaints. The manager, John, is rude and disrespectful. I asked for services to be performed and this company is not what I would trust to handle simple pool cleaning. Whenever I would call to get answers to my questions, I only get the voicemail. But I must say, to this company's credit, they never forget to send the bill. The only person that was real and unfiltered was the technician, Mark. He did tell me that he felt that the company was not worth it. Imagine, an employee telling a customer not to use the company. We only had this pool company servicing our pool for less than two months. We were paying for them to clean the pool and do the chemicals weekly and backwash twice a month. After the second week, everything went downhill. We have surveillance cameras with microphones around our house that clearly show they were not cleaning the pool. When we called the owner Dustin, to say that our videos showed our pool guy was here less than 3 minuites and did not clean the pool, he sent the same pool guy back to our house the same day to clean the pool. In stead of being contrite and apologetic when he arrived, he was screaming, beligerent and did not apologize. I told him if he did it right the first time, he would not have had to come back out here. He threated us and was splashing water with his bad attitude while attempting to scrub the pool. Very unprofessional and rude. Again, he was here less than a total of 6 mins. Basically, we were paying for a service we were not receiving. That is consumer fraud.
