Used to be great but variety has deteriorated severely over the years. 3 to 4 years ago they had a multi page menu with lots of excellent options and quality. Numerous appetizers and a lot of yummy main courses. Right after covid the menu was sliced in half with 70% of the appetizers removed. At that time I was told the chef felt he was too busy and didn't want to run an extensive appetizer list. (They are a pub and grill.Huh?? Appetizers are key to a pub and grill). A year ago they cut the menu in half again removing many of the main courses, another employee telling me they had less staff and didn't have time to make all the options. Last week they removed the rest of the appetizers and cut the main courses again. Now what was once a 5 page food menu with delicious variety is down to one page with very limited options. Apparently the owner of the marina decided not to maintain anything here anymore as well. All the roofs at the marina are falling apart and all the businesses are leaving because it's too difficult to find staff and the properties are not properly maintained. Apparently its his plan to let the whole thing go for tax writeoff. As a resident of hawaii kai this is all very disappointing and I find it shameful. If you don't want to keep it up then just sell it to somebody who does rather than hurting the whole community. read more

Very overpriced and terrible food. Three fish tacos $24. Hard to find the fish and then the pieces were like rubber. The beans and corn looked terrible and the dish wasn't even hot. This place is worth coming by if your visiting Oahu. The views at this brewery are beautiful! You will be able to see the Kokohead trail, moutains, and a boat dock. There's a huge selection of beers that are not available in most grocery stores, and also a merch store (hat pricing ranges from $25 - 45). Our first time at Kona Brewing in HK and it was so delicious! There was a bit of a wait for a weekend lunch time, but wasn't too bad as there is a lot of seating inside and outside. The outside has views of the marina and you can also see Costco! Parking: ample, but small spaces and can get full as it shares with 24Hr fitness and First Bank of Hawaii. Service: our server was Matt, who took care of us. He was helpful with suggestions and timely with our food. We came here while on vacation and it was so nice we had it twice! Once at the beginning of the trip and once at the end. Obviously their beer is delicious but so was the food! I love coming to Kona Brewing Co. I live down the street and have been coming here since I was a kid and now still as an adult. The views are great being right on the water and the vibe has always been chill. I love sitting at the bar because it has a best view of the water without being fully out on the patio. They have a full bar on top of all the beer so something for everyone. I love the lychee martini. It's sweet but strong. Pizzas are great here and so is the cubano with kettle chips. Everyone is always really nice and helpful as well. We love coming in and hanging out at the bar. I definitely recommend visiting Kona Brewing for pau hana or a nice dinner on the patio. read more

The service, space, and the view here is amazing! Plus you get a constant breeze when you're outside and it feels so lovely. Location is great, plenty of parking and the crew here were so accommodating. The food, however, is not anything special. Had the shrimp tacos and although the aioli cream over it was delicious, it wasn't anything spectacular. Hubby ordered the hamburger and he said the patty had no flavor. We were also sad to find out they don't have a fryer at this restaurant so no fries or anything. Hubby had mac salad with his burger. It's a pretty big restaurant to not have a fryer... maybe an air fryer? Anyway, I don't think we'll be back here again unless we're bringing some friends from the mainland over for the view. A lovely happy hour at this Kona Brewery, although they get most of their beer stock from the big island. The happy hour pork taco was sublime at $4.25. Highly recommended! The HH house wines could have been better selected, these were California but lame. I switched to a Duke's Golden Ale that reminded me to always choose beer at a brewery, not Wine! The skinny two tops on the outside of the bar present a splendid view of a lovely marina and hillside dwellings of Hawaii Kai. The wait service is good and I'd say this is definitely worth the stop between 3 PM and 6 PM..for beer fans. ($7 pints during HH) also, on Monday, they have burger, a beer and a side for $20. Its a bit tucked away in a plaza. There's plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. We were lucky enough to beat the rush and make happy hour. Decor was simple and cute. there is a bar area as well playing games. it just seems like a fun hangout. Food: their happy hour menu has great brew and food selections. I was specifically looking for brews native to the area. I ordered a stout and IPA. I was not disappointed. I also ordered their pork tacos. Gosh portion size was perfect. One of my go-to spots after doing Koko Head. They have a great happy hour and full menu selection. Service is always friendly, fun, and they're great with larger groups. As mentioned, my pasta was cooked to perfection. It is not easy to get all the components to be as perfect as it was. The seafood, individually and together, was perfectly cooked and not over done. It was very abundant with the fish, shrimp, and the mussels. Like I said, I want thing again when I come back. I also tried some of my friend's pua'a taco that was tasty and filling! Lastly, i love the location, by the marina! I love the open air experience! The vibe is very laid back and just a nice spot to be. We were in the corner and could see everything. Good location, good drinks and good eats--but nothing great in my opinion. The service was good, but we were not anticipating a "large party" bill when we were initially sat as a party of 3 that unexpectedly ended up being a larger party HOURS later. No signage nor mention of such anywhere nor from anyone. Expect to pay a good bit for any drinks, local craft or not. I was astounded my 2 double jack-and-cokes totaled more than 2 burger meals, honestly! Even 4 full beers was less than... took me by SURPRISE for sure. Very pretty view of the marina from here, especially when sat outside. A beautiful spot with great airflow and music aplenty for any time of day and any group identity. Family friendly for sure--just remember the large party fee... My friends and I literally still talk (and drool thinking) about the old roasted garlic appetizer with cheese spread. Bring it back!!! It also just had a nicer vibe back then. Feels like a walk up beach place now. Servers are understaffed, not sure if that's management's choice or unfortunate circumstance. They were stressed but friendly enough. The menu physically itself has been reduced to some shitty laminated one page thing you might find at a food court or I don't even know. The page was also separating from the lamination making it feel even tackier. Menu items - been reduced, less options. What happened to your shrimp sandwich and French dip sandwich? they were so good and faves of ours. I love me some Kona's, so I was ecstatic to try the brewery experience in Hawaii. It's on a dock by the ocean, and you can feel the wind in the restaurant. I recommend doing sample flights to try drinks that are exclusive to their brewery. I told the waiter to surprise us with the drinks he gave us, as long as there was a variety. (ex. Fruity, ales, IPA's). The service was fast here, getting our beers and food in a fair manner. We initially ordered The Big Wave Golden Ale all around. Then we did the flights after we finished. There were so many menu items that I wanted to try, like the Pawai Pepperoni Rolls, Uncle's Ahi Poke, and Pele's Fire Wings. I ended up getting Uncle's Fish Tacos. The shrimp was seasoned well, and the yogurt sauce made it super tasty. We need one of these on the mainland in California! I am sorry to say I will never eat the Hawaii Kai location again. I have gotten food poisoning twice! Once from their pizza and once from their sliders. My neighbor has also told me she and her son got sick twice and someone else told me 2 weeks ago they also got sick off of their chicken wings. We came in on a Sunday, roughly a 20 minute wait but it's next to the harbor so not too bad. We chose an outside table for the view and it was worth the wait. We went for the flight.
