I created a yelp account solely to review this restaurant. If you need to know only one thing it is this: 50% of the people in the restaurant my second night there were people returning from the night before because the food was just TOO good. I actually cried leaving the restaurant, grieving the absence of this restaurant in my daily life.
Firstly, the environment of the restaurant is brilliant, on a little alleyway off the main piazza, easy to find, and a lovely outdoor seating area. The servers were incredible, kind, attentive, helpful. I asked my waiter to choose one of my rolls each of the 2 nights (I only stayed in Como for 2 nights or it would have been more) I ate here and every time he was spot on with something that matched my other dishes, gave me a new flavor, and changed the way I experienced food. Highly suggest asking them to choose one of your dishes. He and the other waiters were additionally so kind and engaging and while I was dining alone, I felt in great company. They remembered every person who had been to their restaurant before, making you feel like a local, presenting me with the wine of my choice before I could even ask.
If you don't know what umami is, this restaurant will give you an amazing lesson. The fresh wasabi is an incredibly delicate treat, making your tongue tingle and come alive, ready for your next bite of deliciousness. The appetizers, a miso soup and an order of gyoza were both spectacular. The soup perfectly salty and the tofu a texture I've never really experienced, soft and mouth melting. The Niku gyoza served on a bed of a sauce that ignites the dish elevating an already delicate wrapper encasing a light, but powerful filling.
Finally, the sushi. This is the best sushi I have ever tasted in my life. Specifically, the supreme, the first roll chosen by my brilliant server. I urge you, if and when you order this roll, please close your eyes and really focus when you eat it. Each bite takes you through the several different flavors in the one tiny piece of sushi. You are first hit with the burst of fish eggs that awakens your taste buds, brightened by the sprig of dill, then you are washed over by the black truffle, something inspired in sushi, that creates a bed for the soft, sweet, fresh salmon that is embraced by the perfect avocado. The final taste is the balancing act of the perfect white rice and the crunchy black sesame seeds.
The other rolls, the Explosion, elevated by a sweet, tangy, and spicy jalapeño sauce that pulls the sashimi and yellowtail together in a beautiful roll, and the Maguro Spicy, a beautiful take on the classic spicy tuna served with fresh tuna nestled atop the roll, they were both AMAZING. This restaurant is fairly pricy, but 100% worth it. It will change how you feel about sushi and remind you that Italians do not only create delicious Italian food, but are brilliant chefs of cuisines all around the world! read more
