Lovely restaurant in Bellagio with the cutest outdoor terrace plus delicious food! We had a reservation at this restaurant on a weekday night, and I would definitely recommend getting a reservation if you can since it was quite busy when we were there. We ended up getting seated right at the edge of the vine-covered terrace overlooking the beautiful Salita Serbelloni which just gave such a romantic vibe overall. All of the food we had was phenomenal. We started with the roasted octopus and potato gnocchi, both of which were very tasty with great flavors. The octopus was cooked perfectly, and I also loved the ragu sauce that went with the gnocchi. Then, my fiance and I had their fish of the day which they cook up in front of you, and it was served with seasonal vegetables and roasted potatoes. We were able to get in without a reservation but while the rooftop set-up was really nice, something felt slightly off in my opinion. I think partly it was that our general online research offered a lunch menu that was a la carte, but they only had a prefix menu when we were dining there. In the end, I personally feel like this is more 3.5 stars, and what made it just shy of 4 stars was that the prefix menu felt like a cash grab. The dishes themselves were hit or miss (eg the cacio e pepe dish was subpar and the flavor wasn't great) but we had a beef tartare that was pretty good! read more

This was the first meal of our Lake Como trip. The terrace is very nice and has views of the popular street in Lake Como. The only downside was that there are a lot of bees/flies due to the florals that are lining the terrace. Not the restaurants fault! The food was pretty good, not our best meal but it was satisfying. Wowowow. Probably one of the best pastas I've had. I came for lunch and I got the 35 euro for 2 course option. It comes with water, wine, and dessert. They also have a 3 course option for 45 euros. They sat me right away without wait which was awesome. I got the burrata with cherry tomatoes for my first course and their mussel pasta for my second. This restaurant was highly recommended by our hotel. We explicitly said we want a wonderful pasta meal. The choices were very limited .I ordered the truffle pasta..even though I don't particularly care for truffles. The flavor was lacking and was swimming in a bowl of oil. I ordered € 95 bottle of wine and the wine steward broke the cork into the bottle and instead of getting a new bottle he attempted to strain it which was unsuccessful. When I informed him of cork still floating in my wine he brought out a finer strainer...again! the bottle should have been replaced... still cork in my wine. I was given a €15 discount because of the mishap but this should have been handled much differently. Very disappointing. If you want good pasta and a good view go to La Punta.. One of the better restaurants in Bellagio near the town square area . You have to climb a bit of stairs to get there, but it is away from the tourist strip. Bilacus has good seafoods, and fresh pasta. If you order the sea bass, they bring it out on a tray to show you how fresh it is. They have a thick binder on their selection wines, so you can be sure to find a wine that pairs with your meal. We dined on their beautiful outdoor courtyard. We ordered a special appetizer, which was a lightly fried prawns with thin shell wrapped with basil, served with honey mayo mustard dipping sauce and small amount of citrus salad. They give you a complimentary basket of various fresh breads. For the main courses we had a garlic herb pasta with mussels, and pesto risotto with raw shrimps. We enjoyed the mains very much but the portions were bit small. For desserts we had excellent cannolis and rose berry sorbet. read more

No Ubers here so taxi ride.. about €50 each way cause my driver was like a transporter suited up in his Audi 7 series. But it's pitch dark at night so it works. It's also hidden. But the restaurant call him after for me to go back. So that's a win! Bustling at night, super busy. I chose to sit inside cause they had air conditioning which is rare. Plus, live music! The usual/ primi was pasta: I had tagliatelle pomodoro with olives, and also ragu bolognese ( a bit rich). Fried perch on risotto came highly recommended but it was pure sage and butter. Not a fan. The steak! Not a fan. I like rare steak but the way they made it just wasn't good. Polenta cake was good though. And the espresso & panna cotta was good too. If this is the only restaurant open during the late hours of the day, I believe it's better to go get gelato nearby instead . It was recommended by the owner of Hotel Centrale so when Trattoria de San Giacomo refused us since their kitchen is closed , we went to this "higher scale Italian restaurant". I got the crispy pork and I asked how it will be crisped and the guy who took our order said it will be cooked in the oven and not fried . I was so excited to crack the skin when it was served but lo and behold , the table knife can't even get into it because it was tough as leather . I have raised my concern when the guy came to ask us how's our food and to my surprise he said that that's the way the pork should have been cooked . Do not fool an Asian lady who knows how to crisp up pork skin in the oven . And my husband's rack of lamb was seared ( browned) outside but bloody red inside . I had to call the waiter too to to show it to the chef because even he agreed that it was not cooked properly. We are Texans and we know how to cook our meats / proteins . It was late at night so I do not know who was in the kitchen but when customers complain, one should acknowledge. Delicious food with a delicious view! I ordered their fried perch on risotto (a Lake Como speciality) and it was fantastic. The fish was super fresh and fried perfectly. The risotto was flavor, with just a touch of saffron, but not too heavy. And the views, oh the views! You get seated outdoors on their terrace, overlooking some steep steps leading people up the Bellagio cliffs. Fish that tastes like lobster?!??? Bilacus served up a four coursed meal that is definitely worth the stop. When first arriving our server set the tone for an enjoyable lunch. He was kind, playful, knowledgeable about the restaurants various dishes and wines, and overall provided an ambiance that embodied Italian hospitality. Our group ordered every dish on the menu as we could not decide what description sounded most appealing. As each dish was presented the colors were bright and the taste even more exquisite. The sauces provided a great balance to each protein. In particular the highlight was the fish steak of the day that closely resembled lobster in texture and taste. I spent 10 days in Italy. My dinner at Bilacus was the worst meal I ate. It's odd that a meal here fell so flat. When we asked our hotel for recommendations, the clerk pointed to Bilacus immediately. We were excited to dine here. Because Lake Como can get fairly chilly at night, Bilacus has a semi-enclosed outdoor porch area with heat lamps. When you're seated, you may also be offered a blanket. That's a nice touch. I looked up above the table to see a mesh screen on a window leading to the kitchen. It was coated in grease/oil. It's the kind of thing Gordon Ramsay would spot on "Kitchen Nightmares" and scream at the owner about. If they don't notice or care about yellow slicks on their window screens, where else are they dropping the ball? I began with the penne arrabiata (€10). The sauce was watery and mostly flavorless. A definite letdown. For my second course, I went with the tagliata griglia (steak, €20). This was the real crime. The cut of meat was really awful - tough and gristly. Despite asking for it medium rare, it was clearly cooked medium well. I ate other steaks in Italy that practically disintegrated when my knife hit the meat. At Bilacus, I was forced to saw away at a steak that had all the texture of an old boot. The total damage for our meal was €77.50, which is horrendous for the poor quality of the food. During our time in Lake Como, we vastly preferred BabaYaga and La Fontana. If you find yourself headed toward Bilacus, keep strolling on. There are better, less expensive meals all around. read more

SO very charming. I loved eating on the outdoor terrace. When my husband and I arrived there were no seats. We decided to stand on the top of the stairs and wait for the perfect spot - since the atompshere is such a huge factor in the dining experience! We ended up being seated pretty quickly and had a very nice leisurely lunch. We started with the melon w/ prosciutto to start and then split spaghetti with red sauce & cacio e pepe (the special of the day) for our mains. All three dishes were delicious! One of the cutest little restaurants I've ever been to! I absolutely LOVE the outdoor terrace area. Great for people watching or to just soak in the beauty of Bellagio. I ordered the Ravioli alla Montanara (meat ravioli w/ mushrooms & a cream sauce) and it was SO GOOD. The sauce was bomb and the mushrooms and ravioli were cooked to perfection. My boyfriend ordered the Penne alla Caruso (penne with chicken and vegetable in tomato and cream sauce) and that was pretty good as well. We also ordered a trout dish that ended up being very disappointing. The fish tasted very bland and the lemon sauce didn't help. Besides the trout, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Rick Steve's Guidebook to Italy is what brought us to Bilacus Restaurant in early November 2019 when we were lucky enough to travel to Italy -- and more specifically to Bellagio, in the Lake Como District. While in Italy, we became HUGE fans of Rick Steve's walking tours and suggestions for things to do that he outlined in the guidebook, but had found his restaurant recommendations to be hit-or-miss for our tastes. Bilacus was a HUGE HIT for us! Elegant service without being stuffy or pretentious at all. Absolutely delicious food, handsomely presented. And a beautiful space, in which to stop and rest ... and enjoy a bit of la dolce vita, after walking around and taking-in stunning Bellagio. At the waiter's recommendations, we tried the pasta special with mushrooms and chestnuts (divine!), along with the chicken cacciatore (concentrated, delicious tomato flavor and melt-in-your-mouth chicken). After our entrees, we tried their pane cotta dessert (not pictured -- Italian thickened cream) and it was just perfect -- velvety smooth and a delightful way to end a fantastic meal. In case it's not abundantly evident, we highly recommend you enjoy a meal at Bilacus if you find yourself lucky enough to visit Bellagio. We consider ourselves lucky, indeed! read more

I went there for lunch with my boyfriend. We had a mixed cheese platter as antipasti and spaghetti vongole and risotto as main courses accompanied by some white wine (recommendation of the waiter). However, too many great Italian dinners at our place and now leftovers to finish, drove us to decide to come here for lunch instead. Arrived shortly after noon, on a weekday, and they accommodated our party of 7 promptly. For lunch, an appetizer and two dishes from the Primi menu were very satisfying for a couple. Good food and reasonable prices, all while sitting on a rooftop with overhead vines. They also have the local dish of Perch and Risotto. Food was fantastic, setting is idyllic. If you want traditional Italian dishes, fine wines, great service and delicious deserts this is the place for you. We had a great experience here. Everyone is super friendly. The food is awesome. We started with linguine and vongole then had pappardelle bolognse with mushrooms. Also amazing. And yes we could get those dishes back home BUT not as good as it was here. Then came the real treat. In the little restaurant across the street, more of a take out kind of place. There was a lot of action. So I went over to see what was going on. Right in front were three copper pot mixers with what looked like large balls of dough being mixed. But it was polenta. Under the bowls were burners and in the bowls were mixing blades like in a cement mixer. There were lots of people buzzing around the three bowls with a man with s large knife slicing into the ball of polenta and another man with a large wooden paddle pushing the ball around in the bowl all the while the mixing blades are going. Then there were the bosses, the women who were supervising to make sure the men didn't screw up. Lol. I'm watching this whole thing in awe. The one mixer saw me watching and gave me a piece of the cheese that was going into the polenta to try. It was delicious!! Then he pointed to a large bowl with about 10 lbs of the cheese in it and then a stack of about 20lbs of butter. He pointed to both and then the polenta. Although I didn't understand a single word he said the message was quite clear. All that butter and cheese was going into the polenta. Goodness gracious I thought how can that be. The volume of cheese and butter was almost more than the polenta!! Then a mob started gathering outside as the polenta was being finished after being continuously mixed, sliced, remixed with the wooden paddle, transferred from one mixing bowl to the next and cooked for 3 hours. It was ready to be served. It was polenta pandemonium. There was a mob for hours outside lining up to get their polenta. At that point our reservation was ready we sat outside on the street side of the upper terrace and we could see what was going on over at polenta central. The owner of Balicus who is the nicest guy came over and we were talking and he explained about the polenta. It's made only once a year for a charity event and you can't just buy it. You have to preorder it. And it is in very high demand, an understatement if there ever was one. You have no idea what was going on over there. Well after we finished our two courses of pasta a plate of polenta appears in the middle of our table. My jaw dropped. I looked at it and thought to my self it looks very dense. So my wife and I each took a forkful and once the polenta got into your mouth it changed from a dense dry looking compound to the most velvety delicious thing you ever ate. From that moment of conversion which by the way my wife and I reached at the same time it was a race to the end. I think I one won by a forkful. Lol I then scraped the plate clean and licked the forks clean. So far it's been the highlight of my trip to Italy. Then we had our entrees. I had the local lake perch. Never had perch before. It's a light and delicious fish. I highly recommend. My wife had the grilled prawns. Very fresh and delicious. We had also ordered a bowl of white beans with rosemary and red sauce. It was so good I would have eaten the whole bowl but just couldn't do it. Somehow we found room to eat some of the best chocolate cake ever and the owners mom's apple cake. We were beyond full but it was so good we just kept eating. We couldn't finish it all no matter how hard we tried I had a glass of Corsatto wine with my cake it's an expensive glass of wine but it was Devine! And worth every Euro!! Well I had the wife pay the bill cause I couldn't sit any longer. I had to get up and walk outside. I thought I was going to explode. I had to move around. I think the polenta was expanding and my body was trying to metabolize all that food and was generating lots of heat. I was sweating big time all of a sudden. Thankfully a walk along the lake and a glass of fine Grappa at Serbelloni settled me Not planning on breakfast or lunch today. Would I go back and do it again? You betcha!! read more

We found this ristorante by chance...it was up an alley from our hotel and off the beaten path...we came in one evening, were seated out on the patio under the arbor and everything was perfect! The salad, local fish entree and the house wine was superb! We came back the next night in a steady drizzling rain and sat inside (of course).
