When the newly installed dishwasher lost power after a short initial run, it looked like the problem was with the dishwasher alone. Then we found three of our kitchen outlets out. If we called the people who installed the dishwasher, it's likely they'd blame the house's wiring. So we looked for an electrician to find out what's happening. We ended up called Kolb. Yes, we saw the not so good reviews of this business. But we were fortunate. The electrician who came out was Jason P. and he did a great job. I have no other experience with Kolb, so the quality might depend upon the job and the the electrician who comes out. He found that the dishwasher had a wiring problem which kept tripping one of the GFI (ground fault interrupter) outlets in the kitchen, knocking out the circuit for the dishwasher and the three outlets. Jason fixed the dishwasher wiring connection to the circuit. He also replace the GFI outlet that was going out. (He gave me the choice if I wanted to replace the outlet or take a chance that it would properly once the dishwasher was fixed. I chose to replace it to be on the safe side.) Since Jason was here, we decided to check three other outlets elsewhere in the house. It was good that we did. One of the outlets was broken inside and presented an electrical arcing and fire risk. When finished, all outlets were working correctly. The total cost for this work was reasonable. No cheap like the jack of all trades handyman but we are more confident of the work and accountability. read more

Not sure what happened with all the negative reviews. I guess we got lucky. Our tech name was Jason P. He did an excellent job on resolving our electrical issues. We'll it started with a dishwasher we just purchased. Somehow on the same day they delivered it. It tripped our kitchen outlets. Including the dishwasher that stopped working. We had three outlets that stopped working immediately afterwards. He came in did some rewiring with the dishwasher wires and had us back in business. He also replaced several outlets that were non- functional. Some needed a secure panel of replacements on numerous outlets. . We appreciate him working to figure out what triggered the outlets from working. Everything was working back to normal when he finished his job. We also payed a reasonable rate. For the services that was rendered. So they get 4.5 stars from me. Hopefully we won't need them again but if so I would request Jason P. read more

Called on 1/14 to get an estimate on a sub panel replacement. Spoke with call center who sounded like we were the first call she had ever received. As of 1/21 have not received a call back. Called Milton Electric the same day, got a visit on 1/15, a written estimate on 1/16. Sent a deposit on the same day and installation is scheduled for tomorrow, 1/23. Guess Kolb Electric doesn't need the business. read more

Requested a quote for a EV charging station install. Estimator did not reply to email for over 2 days. When I called him, his voice mail said he was out that day and would call me the next day. Did not call me the next day. Called him the next day and he said he would try to fit us in the following week, but did not confirm, When it is this much trouble getting an estimate, imagine the lack of service and responsiveness to customer, if they had the job. I asked the operator to have his supervisor call me, but have yet to get a call. Disappointing. read more

Kolb like everything else is not perfect. That said I've had far better service without foolishness from Kolb Electric. My latest Kolb Electrician was Kevon and he is a superstar in his craft and in customer service. I'm selling my old condo and my garbage disposal stopped working while the unit is on the market. I had to get that garbage disposal back in service immediately. All the other electricians wanted to draw out the process and do estimates. They wanted to turn it into a major construction project I did not have time for. Kevon from Kolb Electric figured out how we could get things done and I had my garbage disposal working like a champ in no time. The Kolb Electric difference is their electricians work with the home owner to solve problems not create them. That's why Kolb is my electric company and has been for about 10 years. read more

So today, I was out running errands with the wifey and we recieved a phone call from the kids at home who informed us that the electricity is out in several of the bedrooms. We eventually come home and begin to troubleshoot the issue but was met with negative results. We called around to different electricial repair companies but the customer service was not so good. We finally land on Kolb Electric and I am so glad we did. The dispatcher (Missy) was so nice and was sympathetic to our situation because the cause was unknown to us. Missy, before even attempting to dispatch a technician, she immediately (once we explained what was going on) began walk us through a process of elimination in an effort to troubleshoot the matter in the hopes that it could be rectified and we would not need a technician. Again, her efforts were welcomed but did not fix the issue. Once we reached the point of knowing that we could not address the issue, Missy broke down the rates for us along with the process from that point forward. Once we accepted, she dispatched a technician to which she said that he/she would be calling us within the next 15 mins...this is exactly what happened. The technician called and informed us when he would arrive at our home and it was the exact time when he arrived. He was very professional, came prepared, did not haggle, and immediately began to address the matter. Needless to say, the technician fixed the issue in several rooms, fixed the loop, closed the circuit, and replaced the faulty outlets with ease. Once he was finished, he put all the furniture back, tallied the ticket, accepted payment, and was on his way without further incident. I am very pleased with this company and the level of service my family and I recieved and we will contact this company (should the need arise) in the future. - Did not keep appointment - Did not call to notify me of any delay Called and made an appointment to get an estimate. I explained that I had an appointment at 3pm, so they said they would adjust my time between 8am and 2pm. So, I took leave from work and waited. I waited all the way up to 2:45pm. I called Kolb and spoke to a manager who explained that they just couldn't get to me today. (They also just couldn't call!) So, I miss a day of work just to hear that they couldn't get to me. I find this to be unacceptable and will be seeking services from more qualified professionals. read more

We had an appt that was made over a week ago to do some repairs, we were told the electrician will come between 12-4 yesterday and will call us 1/2 hour before arriving. We called their office at 3:45, was told by office someone would call us back. At 6 pm, we had a call from the electrician that said he can be at our place by 7! Ridiculous! Extremely unreliable and will make sure everyone knows how terrible this company is!!! read more

Was given a service window of 8 - 12. When no one arrived by noon I called the office to find that the technician's estimated arrival would be 1:30 - 2 pm. I informed them that I had an afternoon appointment that I could not miss and had to leave, but that my wife could be home by 4 pm. The Kolb representative replied that to come at 4 would be an overtime charge. I felt this response was unacceptable and I explained that I felt that it was their responsibility to work this out. The only response I received was that it is difficult to estimate service call times. Points of Failure: * Kolb did not call to inform me that they were running behind and would not be able to make their appointment window - thus wasting much of my day. * No apology was offered for the failed service opportunity, only the excuse that it is difficult to estimate service calls. * Made no effort to take care of me as a customer. read more

Called for multiple jobs. Recessed lighting, attic fans, and bathroom exhaust fans. Two technicians arrived - one with only commercial electrical experience (not residential). The work performed by this technician was sloppy, including a bungled attic fan installation. Now, 1 year later we have a roof leak from the installation site and an attic fan that does not work. This caused damage inside the house. We have had to hire new electricians and roofers to fix their work. They have damaged our house - DO NOT USE THEM! read more

Called Kolb to get them to install a chandelier. Called them on a Tuesday to ask for an appointment. They had an opening 2 days later at 8:00am. They called to confirm on Wednesday. Yep. At 8:00am on Thursday, the doorbell rings and there they are. Two electricians with a massive step ladder. The two of them zipped right through the installation. They were done in an hour even though they needed to modify the gang box for the new chandelier. Very professional and quick. I'd gladly use them again. read more

I contacted Kolb in December of 2017. They sent a sales person out to give me an estimate on approximately 20 items needed to pass inspection from Carroll County Maryland. There was prior work done and the contract stipulated they were not responsible. For 2 months they kept sending techs out that basically didn't do what the agreement said. The county said the permit needed to be amended. Brian and Sheri told me they were sending someone to the county. As months went on I decided to go down to the inspection department. I was shocked when Kolb's permit was to install 1 YES 1 smoke dector. Thats, why the permit needed to be amended. The permit they filed was fraudulent. I fired the thieves and hired another electrician who had the problem resolved in 5 days. I was holding off saying anything until Brian called me today for the final payment. THEY WERE CONTRACTED IN CARROLL COUNTY MARYLAND. THIS WAS A RENOVATION PROJECT. read more

This company's customer service is horrible. I spent a huge amount of money, over $12k, having them update my home's electrical system. After repeated calls to get a final "paid" invoice and told one would be emailed and hard copy in the mail, nothing was never received. Later in the year I was price gouged on a service call. The onsite tech when questioned about the high bill from our nanny said "well they make a lot of money right?". Repeated calls to address the issue were never returned. Most recently, an inquiry on an issue from the major work was initially met with promising conversation, however after repeated calls for a month I am not receiving return calls to address the issue. KOLB ELECTRIC INC - ALL OFFICES OPPERATE THE SAME!! Folks PLEASE Listen. DO NOT call Kolb Electric for anything. They have no idea what they are doing, the management or the techs! YOU WILL BE SORRY! ! I know this is hard to believe. Google Kolb electric reviews and they are endless! I have been reading complaints and just feel the need to tell people the truth about Kolb Electric. They intentionally don't have their trucks stocked with any materials or tools. They just send a tech out to your house with hopes of having to run around the county looking for materials on your dime @ $89.00 and hour. They also charge everyone for travel, and specifically are told not to tell you, and will hide it and lie about it! If you question it, they will tell you it is $89.00 for the first half hour and $22.25 every 15 minutes, which works out to $89.00 an hour, but that's not correct and not how you are charged. You are charged an extra half hour. On the phone when you make the appointment they will tell you the rate is $89.00 an hour and the time will start when the tech gets to the job! -They do not have any tools, therefore can't produce a nice job. -They don't show up for appointments (no show) - They sell you things you don't need. -They send one tech for a two man job, just to burn hours to keep the tech on the clock. -They intentionally have a complicated and lengthy invoice for the tech to fill out, and it takes about a half an hour to complete, and you get charged for all that. -The whole call is about burning time, not doing a nice job. -They never come prepared for the job, even if you give them all the info needed -They DO NOT do code compliant work, and the management forces he tech to do this by telling the tech how they want it done, and not giving the tech the right tools and materials or help! -They do not have drop cloth's and do not clean up their mess -They will show up when you don't know they are coming. -They will start your job, not come back for days and send a different tech that is not familiar with your job. This tech will not know what's going on with your job, and you will have to explain everything over and over if your lucky and get that chance too. Then they will let a few more days go by and send another different person. -They would rather pull out of your house with a lots of money and you be dissatisfied, then pull out of your house with some money and be happy! -Don't be fooled by a fancy BS website and in bus. since 1925, a 10% coupon or Angie's list! DO NOT USE KOLB! I gave them 1 star because 0 stars is not an option. Kolb did not get the required permits for my job, charged me extra to get the permits even though it was on my original contract, lied to the inspector saying they did not do the work, cost me an additional 3000 in repairs. Their customer service is severely lacking and the management absolutely terrible. This has been a never ending nightmare. Save yourself time and money and choose another electrician. read more

We made an appointment one week ago to have some minor electric tasks completed in our home. Previously used them in 2010 with no problems at all. They told us they were booked for the week but we could have the first 8 am appointment, Monday morning. We were disappointed nobody showed up at 8 am however we waited until 9 am to call the office and check on the reason for a delay. We were on hold a long time listening to music until the office said they had to check with the dispatcher and get back to us. About ten minutes later they called back and claimed to have called my cell phone (untrue) at 8 am.. No missed calls, no messages! They then told us to expect a tech in about an hour or so. Never happened. We waited almost another three hours then called back at 12 noon to cancel our business with them. To make a long story short, they are unreliable, appear to be unorganized, short staffed and they do not communicate in a timely or professional manner. I contracted with Kolb electric 3 months ago for a whole house generator. Kolb has been very disorganized, in fact my husband has started to question if this is the first generator they have ever installed. They make appointments for me to stay home and they show up without the equipment they need to finish that day's work. Our house needed to have a meter upgrade. Kolb failed to schedule this with BGE and we I questioned the length of time the project was taking the Kolb rep. said that BGE would come. A week later...he figured out that he needed to call and schedule. I could go on and on. I have sent several emails (over a two week period) asking Kolb to finsh my project. I finally called the office today and asked if my rep still worked there (I was actually just being sarcastic) and found out that in fact he did not work there! I explained to the receptionist how upset I was and asked to speak to someone in charge and was told that she could not interrupt the person I needed to speak with. I explained that I was a very upset customer, but she insisted that did not matter. read more
