We have been going there since it opened 25 years ago. Never had any issues. Never had to return a meal and always enjoyed superior service. Until this weekend when it turned into one of the worst scenes ever witnessed. I had ordered veggie fried rice as a side and received a plate with white rice and green beans. The server apologized but I was fine with it and assured her that it was not a problem. We overheard some kitchen dialogue about whether the server or the cook caused the mistake. This was followed by a table visit by the owner's mother who apologized and called the server "cuckoo", not realizing she had walked up behind her and heard it. It was the most unprofessional and inconsiderate treatment of an employee I've ever seen. We heard some more fussing in the kitchen about the mistake, at the conclusion of which the server (who was literally in tears) said she would not give us a bill and would personally comp the meal. We refused her doing that and, after some back and forth, ended up leaving the equivalent of the meal and a tip cash on the table. Management had an opportunity to discount the meal or offer up a free dessert as compensation but was nowhere to be found during that exchange. The mistake was trivial and was a non-issue. I was taken back by the lack of management support for a long-time employee and disappointed in their total lack of respect and condescending treatment of a retired schoolteacher. Needless to say, that event torpedoed 25 years of customer loyalty. I will not set foot in that place again. read more

There was only one guy behind the counter, and he was super calm considering the line was long and very slow. He was also manding the drive through, so we all were very patient. We were looking for something quick to eat and accidentally stumbled across Kolache Factory. My mom wanted Golden Corral and they were closed, so we ended up here. They're on Independence Blvd and when you drive up there's a drive thru. There were 4 cars in the drive thru waiting, but no one was inside. So we went in. It was clean inside with several seats available to dine in. We were greeted by the friendly cashiers. They were both very informative and helped us decide on what to order and also gave us recommendations!! I got the polish dog kolache, potato egg and cheese kolache, and the chicken florentine croissant. My mom got the bacon and cheese kolache and a brisket kolache. They will heat them up for you as well. They were out of alot of flavors so there wasn't much to choose from. But still enough options to find something. The polish dog and chicken florentine were my favorite. The dough was not buttery or anything special, but it went well with the polish dog. I do wish it had cheese inside because it was dry. But I still enjoyed it. The chicken florentine croissant was delicious. It wasn't completely filled inside, but it was still filling. I'd definitely get those again. The potato egg and cheese one didn't really have much cheese, but it had good flavor. My mom enjoyed her brisket one the most. It had a sweet bbq sauce. My order was about $16 for 3 items, not bad but still a little pricey since they aren't completely full. The service was good. Our order was ready pretty quickly and I like this place. This morning, I had a few extra minutes to kill on my way to an appointment and needed breakfast. Instead of going to one of my normal spots, I spontaneously pulled in here and ordered a few things. They have a drive-thru option but I figured I would head inside to see what their offerings were in real time. They have a wide selection of kolaches and other similar items and pastries. I was surprised by how many choices there were. It wasn't busy inside, just one other person ahead of me. I mentioned that I had never been in before and the other patron excitedly shared a few of his favorites with me. He stated that he loved it here, which is always a good sign. I finally made time to come here after every year I could not because i was never drive that way because i go another road near Lynnhaven to get to town center, but since i was on the way to Wegmans i was like well might as well go since i was heading that way. I tried an kolache before when my dad bought it home he didn't know about that place for years even though he drove past many times. I always knew about them since I am a rewards loyalty member. I just never headed that direction until I was ready this year. I had to go redeem a loyalty reward and so i headed there. I got a philly cheese one and pepperoni kolache those were good. They were helpful answering my questions how to work the app on scanning or what not and answering if the spinach kolache was good. They were very nice and friendly. Hi I just want to say that I love kolaches and i am so glad there is a location in Virginia. Unfortunately I am just visiting town so I have only had the opportunity to come twice. And both times and I have received terrible service. Whoever served me happened to serve me both times and both times gave me super low effort service and would not restock the wall and repeatedly told me kolaches were not available even though the people in front and behind me got them with different servers. To the point where we were denied a flavor at the desk just to go through the drive thru and get the exact flavor we were asking for 2 minutes earlier. I wish she would care more about customer satisfaction and be willing to just look to see what kolaches were available instead of giving bare minimum effort becomes it comes across as lazy and careless. The brisket was the best one but we're not a fan of the doughy bun. I think it would be better if the bun's texture is something like the Chinese bao which is soft and fluffy. I'll start with the good: Kolache are good. We ordered 8 different kinds and mostly good taste. Loved the taste of the bread and the moisture level but some of the food inside some was pretty dry. We asked them to be heated up but because they pack them all in a box before they heat them they weren't actually heated up. Coffee: AWFUL! I saw other reviews that forwarded us and we should have listened. Can't even describe what it tastes like but definitely not a latte. Customer Service: as someone else stated, they're not rude ... but definitely bored and not happy to be there. Makes you question management/ownership when employee moral is so low. Currently so obsessed with this place. I've always passed it, not knowing...wow do I feel crazy now! I am in a deep foodie trance with this place right now. Everything I've tried has been fresh, the bread is so soft with a touch of sweetness to it. I continue to order at least 3 of the pizza, because it's utterly delicious. It's literally STUFFED with pepperoni, cheese, and sauce. I preferred it warmed, but it's really good no matter how you eat it. You also have the option, as they'll ask if you want it warmed or not. I really recommend it! I also really love the bbq, and the cream cheese. There's just so many to choose from, thag I end up wanting a dozen or so. They're very filling, but I'd recommend ordering some for home. (I order a lot for work to eat during the day working from home.) The service is always so fast and simple. Everyone I've seen there has always been kind, and very helpful. The ambiance is always very calm and quick. Not overwhelming, and very easy to get and go. Also, if you check in you get a free one! (I believe sausage and cheese). I must add also if you sign up for their rewards program you receive a free kolache of the month! So worth it. My free one was the chorizo, and let me tell you I gave one to my dad and it blew his mind! I can't say enough how awesome this place is, and good everything I've tried has tasted.
