Having a Kolache Factory in Tustin made it a no-brainer when I needed a quick satisfying breakfast before starting my day in Houston. My husband and I were going to a brunch wedding but we knew that the reception wouldn't start until noon. I needed caffeine and some sort of food prior to that or I'd be hangry for the entire morning. Kolache Factory was near our hotel so I walked there in the morning while he got ready. I ordered 6 kolaches in different flavors plus a caramel macchiato. I noticed that the Yelp check-in offer was for a free one and since I was only in town for a few days, I asked if I could redeem that as well. The cashier was happy to add to my order. Of the different ones I ordered, I really liked the BBQ Brisket and Philly cheesesteak ones. The breakfast ones like bacon, egg & cheese; sausage & gravy; and sausage & egg are solid choices as well. My husband said the pizza one was like a Hot Pocket on steroids. All were tasty and easily warmed in the microwave at the hotel. Thanks Kolache Factory for being open early and having great service.

Johnny is such an amazing trainer! It's a pleasure every time I come in. Great service!

The Kolache are fresh and consistently tasty. I've been here several times and have been pleased with each experience. Each time, I've been greeted by cheerful and professional employees. The interior is neat and clean as well. What I like most is the fact that whether I go early in the morning or late in the day, there is a good selection of Kolache available! I give them two thumbs up for that alone.

You definitely want to try the jalapeno popper. Or the bacon and cheese kolache. This location always seems to be friendly and pretty quick.

I came with my boyfriend in the morning of our anniversary last year and we ordered six clutch is all of them were fantastic.

I was looking for a good, mostly meat, kolache. Wonderful that I found it here. Compared to Shipley's, Much more meat in their sausage ones. See pics for a nice visual. I got lucky Sunday morning at 10:45a as well. The Texas Hot just came out of the oven! Just the right amount of spicy and cheese.

This is a really tough review to write. Why? Because one of my favorite food joints of all time is Waco's own Czech Stop, which is the heaven of all heavens when it comes to kolache's: http://www.yelp.com/biz/czech-stop-and-little-czech-bakery-west-2 With that in mind, there was no way Kolache Factory, a chain, could compare, but I will say it holds it's own to the degree possible. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? Pretty quick and painless. Walk up, take your pick from an impressive sweet and savory selection, have them warm it up, and boom. You're good to go. Service is fast and friendly, and the layout of Kolache Factory is comfortable enough to hang out for a bit. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $1.69 to $2.00 for a kolache? Fair. Have a look: http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=2Iqn_DaZl0raC9PVkoE0mA&userid=OKX-V5j_qfuOebeHeWGrHg http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=rSIIfyfJIaTPS5j7H1rYhw&userid=OKX-V5j_qfuOebeHeWGrHg http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=zZ7VifMc9EnZbofjs31Mfg&userid=OKX-V5j_qfuOebeHeWGrHg Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Good? Yes. Great? Not quite. First and foremost, the 'shell' was a tad bit thick, and imposed a bit on the quantity of filling. As for the quality and selection, while not even close to what you'll find at Czech Stop, it was suitable, with great savory options including brisket and pepperoni to fruit and cream cheese that are impressive. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? It's good, and will satisfy a craving, but I can't say it's my favorite kolache shop. No Star Granted.

Anyway, I finally got a chance to stop by on a Sunday late morning recently. Parking can be difficult, but there are dedicated Koffeteria spots in front of the business as well as surrounding paid curbside parking. I believe Instagram helped many others discover this business recently, as it was pretty packed and there was a line, but this gave us ample opportunity to peruse the menu and pastry display. Ultimately, we opted for the: Cambodian iced coffee (kayfe dahkoh) made with sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk - tasted very similar but weaker than Vietnamese coffee. As I'm Viet and have never had Cambodian coffee, this was my only frame of reference, and I didn't love it. I'm excited to try more Cambodian coffees to get a better understanding of their unique flavor profile! Black sesame mochi - sweet and perfectly sesame flavored with salted yolk at the bottom, delicious, my partner's favorite pastry Beef pho kolache - the bun was so soft and complemented the soft but flavorful brisket meat. wow. truly a brisket pho in a kolache. We got extremely lucky and got a table almost immediately after ordering, as someone left just in time. The interior is full of vintage furniture, which added so much character. As a vintage lover, I felt so at home! I could see how others might prefer a more neat, chic interior, but to me this was absolutely perfect and added so much warmth, homeliness, and character to the shop. Absolutely love this coffee shop and will 100% be back to try more pastries and coffees. Immediately, this has become a new Houston favorite!

Just an FYI. If you're not going to the convention center and are just looking for an amazing cafe/bakery, Koffeteria is it. I was looking at their large display case for so long that they asked me if I needed help deciding! But that was a great offer because I did need help. I asked for an item that I can eat now, an item that I can snack on later, and a sweet treat. They recommended the guava cheese danish for now, cause it won't travel well. They recommended the Earl Gray Sweet Bun for later. And then they recommended the double chocolate chip cookie. Everything was fantastic. The guava danish was absolutely delightful. The Earl Gray bun was also great when I had it later in the day.

He's a chocolate lover so I decided on the Black Forest cake for him which is one of their specialties. I ordered the night before for noon pickup and paid online which was a pretty easy process. I was able to include instructions to write "Happy Birthday Dad!" When I stopped by on a Sunday at noon, thankfully parking wasn't too bad and I snagged a spot easily. Beware parking here at busier times - when I visited on a Saturday at 1:30pm it was mayhem. On entering, I saw an array of desserts and savory items. I decided to also pick up a savory kolache-type pastry (I never got the name of it) and the cake! The employee was quick and helpful - she located the cake, showed me the design and lettering to make sure it was ok before I left. The cake was a huge hit! We loved the light sponge cake with layers of whipped cream which were light and not too sweet. Then layer of cherries was lovely. The fruits on top were fresh and nicely arranged. The appearance was gorgeous as well, with chocolate shavings delicately arranged on the outside. We were not too impressed by the kolache. I was also able to try their pandan cake slice on another visit and loved the flavoring, lightness of the cake and the icing was very tasty. I will definitely be coming back here for more cakes in the not too distant future!

They have a select variety of pastries. We got their butter croissant, blueberry cream cheese danish, and spinach pastry. The croissant was one of the best I had in Houston! It is subtle, buttery, and flaky and does not go stale from staying out all day. I think these Houston croissants are the most similar to the ones I had in France! The blueberry cream cheese danish had a healthy and generous amount of blueberries. It was flaky, and the cream cheese flavor was not overwhelming or artificial. The spinach pastry was also flaky like the others and had a good spinach and cream flavor. I also had a bite of my friend's cinnamon kouign-amann, but it was not as good as the others and was a bit on the drier side. All the pastries I got were well balanced with subtle flavors and had golden, crispy flakes.
