This was a perfect walkable spot for a great breakfast while in Houston. Came in around 8am and it was busy but like went quickly and service was very nice. I even had a good conversation with another customer in line . I ordered a plain bagel w/ BEC , a sesame bagel with BEC and a chocolate filled croissant and we enjoyed the breakfast with our Starbucks . They had a very good selection but I had to attend a business meeting and needed something quick and to go. Space was nice, service was great and breakfast was yummy. Very nice place, half inside an office building. One of the few places open on New Year's Day. We stopped in for a breakfast sandwich and were pleasantly surprised. It was fresh and delicious. The coffee was good, and you can self serve at a coffee station. The wait staff brings your food and cleans up after you. We did not know you should leave your plate on the table, we thought this was like a Panera where you can clear your own plate, but no! So don't do that! read more

Catering - Corner Bakery on Main Street saved the day for the Office Breakfast. I called the other place I had ordered from and was told they did not have a delivery scheduled for us. Oh No! We were supposed to serve breakfast in 10 minutes for 40 people. I called Corner Bakery on Main Street, placed my urgent, anxious order and asked how long it would take. Celia was calm, offered suggestions and told me that we would have it in 30 minutes. I was so relieved. Have you ever tasted a bundt cake that was moist and flavorful. The spices you could not only smell but taste. Flavor explosion !!! Then on top of that they warm it up and deliver it to the table. The icing and pecans drizzled perfectly on top. I hate that I couldn't get one to go and bring back to Kansas Ciity with me. The lemon bundt cake smelled divine. Simply put, I need another one. Everything we've ordered has great flavor, spices and pleasant tastes. Service is great too. The staff work in a busy downtown so they have to be good, fast and agile - which they all are. Friendly and helpful. No complaints. It's a busy cafe made for small groups but in sure if your needed to fit a group of 6 or so in, you could. This is one of my favorite lunch spots to go to when I'm working downtown. (I guess I kinda always say that? ‍) little pricey, a sandwich, chips and drink will set you back around $12 or so, but the quality is always consistent. I like to get either the BBLT (double bacon lettuce tomato) or the uptown turkey avocado sandwich. They have several salads and pasta bowls as well. The breakfast menu looks really good but I haven't tried anything from it. They have good food and a nice selection to choose from for breakfast or lunch. Danny, their GM, does a great job of providing excellent customer service and sets a perfect example for the rest of the staff to emulate. Food will sit in warming window for as long as it takes for you to go up to the counter and say "do you know when I will get my food?" They will then turn around and pull your food from the warming window, which is now over cooked and gross, and hand it to you as if they were waiting for you to come and ask for it. This is my second time actually patronizing the Corner Bakery Cafe. One in Houston and the other in Chicago. Neither one disappointed. Both were in walking distance of my hotel, both offered very fast service, and the food was delicious. I had the berry salad and soup and I can go on and on about how good it was. Enjoyed a delicious Anaheim panini here. Eggs were cooked well and everything tasted really fresh. The lemonade was super sweet so definitely consider watering that down a bit. The place was clean and seemed to be in order. Staff was friendly and overall the service was great. Food came out in less than five minutes, which I was also impressed by. Free WiFi was a nice addition. My only complaint is that when they start lunch at 10:30am the breakfast items are no longer on the menu behind the counter even though they're still offered. I first heard about Corner Bakery when they catered us for a three week trial. Regardless of what I thought about that experience I was still convinced by my paralegal to come to the actual restaurant and check out the food. The first thing you notice is that it has a good view regardless of where you sit. I like sitting upstairs because it is more quiet, but downstairs is quicker access to watch the lines so you can jump back in line when it dwindles to grab yourself another treat. Yeah, so the food is actually pretty good at the restaurant. I was highly skeptical but I have been back three times and it has been perfect each time. I'm not big on sandwiches but they manage not to screw up anything - they use proportion in building the sandwich. It's not a Subway avalanche of lettuce or a drippy Quiznos monstrosity. The best part is the sweet stuff though - I like my sugar and they know how to take care of me. I will take one of everything please. The location is great on Main, but my most favorite downtown eateries are also right here. If this was it for eateries in this block I would give this five stars and kiss the manager. I like this place! Their variety of soups and their carbonera is delicious! It gets pretty heavy but it hits the spot when you got a craving! The most important thing is that this is right downstairs in the building work at so it's very convenient. They offer a lot of healthy options for health concious customers. Friendly staff and food come out really quick. They are not outrageously priced like some other downtown restaurants and their portions are of decent size so you really don't feel ripped off. I ordered a pretzel turkey combo with chili. The sandwich did not have much meat, but was good with the pretzel bun. The chili was very tasty with plenty of meat. Recommended. Order and pay when you walk in. CBC also has a phone app you can use to place your order. Drinks are self-serve. I had a black currant tea, which I enjoyed. $12 for a weak half-sandwich, cup of chili and a drink was a bit steep. Sandwich/soup combo deals are much better at nearby Jason's Deli. I had a couple of vegetarians in my group, and they easily ordered salads and pasta without meat. Vegetarian-friendly. The seating is a bit packed so I would not suggest large groups....maybe just an additional person. I opted for the smaller portion of a Chicken Carbonara. For what it had in it, costed way more than it should've, but think the Downtown location might be a higher cost due to location. Nothing was spectacular about it and I expected more in the bowl. Had I known, I would have gotten the larger portion. :-) It was steamy and glad it wasn't too salty. It could have been creamier and had a few more pieces of chicken to make it more satisfying. Like most crushes, this whoopie pie presently represents perfection; a promise of sweet, with a tease of salty. Houston is fairly devoid of bakeries in which you can pop by and pick up a tasty little pastry, so I'm happy to note that Corner Bakery is only a couple of blocks away from where I work. Despite being a chain, you can count on fairly delectable baby bundt cakes (go for the banana one!), pecan bars, lemon bars and bear claws. For those of you that prefer to eat a little lunch before diving into desserts, try the Chicken Pesto Sandwich. It's a chicken breast on ciabatta roll with a basil pesto spread, tomato, mozzarella and arugula. The arugula really makes the sandwich, given it an interesting flavor. I've tried the turkey sandwich on pretzel roll and a few other things but inevitably, I always return to the Chicken Pesto. The one complaint that I have is that the sandwich comes with chips, and if you want to substitute fruit instead, you have to pay extra. To whet you whistle, Corner Bakery sports Black Currant tea, coffee and the usual host of sodas. This location also serves breakfast. (The oatmeal is quite a generous portion and nice on the very few cool winter mornings that you might encounter in Houston.) As far as location, it's super convenient since it is right off of Main Street and easily accessible from the rail. The outdoor seating is a bit questionable though because it's right where the fountains spray water over the rail line, so there's always sort of a puddle of water nearby, as well as a gaggle of pigeons. In any case - for inexpensive weekday lunch, Corner Bakery is a nice divergence from those of us constantly hitting the Park Shops for a meal. read more
