Why is it so hard to try to live in a cheese-less world? When you double check with the counter person and reiterate, "no-cheese please", they usually get all defensive and say "YES, I KNOW". When you DON'T double check with them...what happens? They put cheese on it. You can't win. That's what happened to me today. My new Anahiem pannini was looking so good at a mere $4.29, which includes eggs, tomato, avocado, and cheese, if you want it. Tsk tsk. Ya messed up again, and once I have food in my hands, I'm loath to give it back, so I just suck it up and eat something I'm not fully happy with. This place is nice, clean, quick and good seating options and really great pricing for this quality. I have been to this location many times. If I could give it 3.5 stars I would. The thing about it is that it is inconsistent. Last week I had the Asian wonton salad. It's pretty tasty and flavorful. This is the third time I ordered it. the first time I though I was in love. The second time it broke my heart. The third time, we kissed and made up, but we'll never be the same. I will probably order it once more. I did order a chocolate chip cookie too and it was good. I would definitely get one again. One of my all-time favorites is the crispy flatbread. OMG! It is so good with coffee. it is totally worth the calories. But only if it's fresh. I got a stale one once and it was not good. But on the breakfast note, they do have tasty breakfast items. I think I prefer breakfast over lunch here. And you can order egg whites only. The coffee is robust and better than Starbuck's. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's OK to go here. The service is par and everyone is usually pretty friendly. Even during the lunch rush you can still get your food in a reasonable amount of time. They have free wi-fi. too. Don't get too ambitious on your order though. Stick to the basics and you won't go wrong. read more

Service is relatively quick so if you are strapped for time (food came up for me in 10 minutes). Toast was a little burned but the avocado scramble made up for it. Another food spot for me in Downtown, not one I frequent, but one that is there when I want something that is a little different from the usual suspects. I really like their oatmeal breakfasts. They use steel cut oats, not those terrible quick oats or even slow cooking rolled oats. These are more like broken up whole oats. They have a little snap to them when you bite down. The texture is so much better than the glue you may have been served in school or get from a little packet to mix into a cup. They have a couple of topping options. My favorite has brown sugar, cranberries, and nuts. NOM. The banana option is great too. I enjoy their sandwiches and salads. Anything turkey is AOK by me. Their Turkey Cobb is really nice. I have tried several other sandwiches, but that is the one that sticks out in my memory. The soups are serviceable as well. I personally think they taste like Corner Bakery follows the model of cooking the soups at a central location and then sending them out to their stores as bagged goods. Most places do this and it's not a bad model, but the soups have that large batch institutional taste. The baked goods are pretty tasty although the brownies are darned heavy. I think of them more as fudgies. This location has a good amount of seating but it can get really really loud here at peak times. If you're coming for conversation, be ready to yell or arrive at an off time. The staff here is really nice. I do like their attitudes. Kind of refreshing since so many people at downtown lunch spots seem to only be there for the paycheck, not to give good service. read more

Corner Bakery's selection tends to lean toward the healthy side, but that's just fine in a downtown full of burgers, barbecue, and fast food. I'm a fan of the spinach crisp salad; a salad with a whole bunch of fruit in it. I substitute blue cheese instead of goat cheese; I also add chicken. Outdoor seating is under the overhang of the high-rise building it's in, so it's usually very shady. Corner Bakery is a nice place to eat that serves some pretty good food. read more

The food is what you would expect. Soups, salads, sandwiches - the usual staple items. I've had their food mainly at catered office events (which I would recommend if you need a caterer). They have good coffee, parfaits, bagels, and oatmeal. For lunch, however, they have a wide variety of sandwiches to choose from. I would say it's very similar to a Panera Bread. I've never had to wait longer than 10 minutes to get my food. There is always enough seating and they do have a patio. I only gave it 3 stars because none of their food really "wows" me. Turns out my dad loves this place (and the Uptown Turkey) so I've been back quite a bit since my review in March. Food and service is still outstanding... however, prices went up recently and the Poblano Fresco and the Green Chili Chicken last couple times have lost some of the ingredients. What I mean is very small portions of jicama slaw (literally a teaspoon on each sandwich half) and other ingredients compared to earlier in the year. Like I said, still tastes fantastic, but feels like I'm eating more bread. On the other hand, at a luncheon a few weeks back, some coworkers ordered pasta and salads which looked deliciously plentiful. Even with the price flux, I feel like Corner Bakery deserves 4 stars. Number 1) because taste and service is great, no hit or miss there and number 2) the ambiance is really growing on me. For the health conscience: Definitely healthier than places like McDonald's, but I was surprised at the caloric and fat content for some of the menu items. Much higher than I would've expected. One last thing! Finally tried dessert. The pumpkin pound cake is ok, but not as good as I hoped. For a pumpkin fix I'll stick to Starbucks' pumpkin bread. My final comment in this review is about the Cinnamon Creme Cake: Go buy a slice right now. read more

For anyone that works downtown, I think this spot should be on the "regular part of the rounds" list. It's a big place able to accomodate the massive lunch hour crowds, with a good patio on nicer days for getting some fresh air. It is yet another of the DT - stand in line to order your food places, but they bring it to your table. You can also call in for take out and save yourself the wait. Prices for DT are very reasonable and servings are good. Here are some of my favorites: - Chicken Sausage Power Panini Thin on Whole Wheat w/ Egg Whites for breakfast. Healthy, tasting and filling at only $3 and some change. Add fresh hash browns and ruin the healthy part for another buck. - Soup and Salad Special for Lunch: Tortilla soup and the chinese chicken salad are both winners for me. - Chicken Pomodoro Panini w/ chips: Dipped in butter, loaded with chicken and a gooey, cheesy spinach - decadently rich. - Any of their pastries or cookies for a pick-me-up break: It is a real bakery - and all of the breads are made fresh daily, as well. Love the cookies. - Not to be missed the hibiscus lemonade or one of their gourmet iced teas - all which cost the same as any drink. HORRIBLE service! I'm normally extremely understanding having worked in the industry for almost my whole life but today was just unacceptable. We had a simple order through GrubHub. I had the club panini with mayo on the side with fruit, my husband had the Italian panini with mayo added and a Caesar salad. We also got broccoli cheddar soup and coffee. Simple enough, right? Apparently it's not. The food was ALL WRONG or not there at all! I got a soggy cold sandwich, no condiments at all with chips. My husbands was also bare and soggy with chips. We got some type of chicken soup and I got a straw but no coffee. I contacted GrubHub who gave me the run around and finally told me to contact the bakery. I called and was on hold for over 15 minutes until the GM got on the line. I explained my frustration and he first tried to blame GrubHub for not checking the bag. Excuse me? I don't know if he isn't aware about a little pandemic called CORONA and I don't want anyone rooting around in my food! He then said that the driver picked up two orders so I must have gotten the wrong one. I highly doubt that considering my name was on everything and the odds of someone ordering almost the same thing are slim to none. I asked for a refund and to have my order corrected and was told to reorder through GrubHub to have it delivered. Why would I want a refund just to pay y'all again? He then said to come pick it up. My foot is broken and I can't drive...that's why I had it sent in the first place! I begged a friend of mine to go get it and they agreed. I asked for my order to be read back to me and it was still wrong. I had it corrected and he said he had someone watching over it to assure me it would come correctly. We open the bags again to no condiments or fruit. I gave up. First and last time giving them my business...don't waste your time. read more

I was so excited to visit this bakery. It's so nice I loved the atmosphere and service was awesome. So many sweets to choose from. We were welcomed as we entered and I did not feel rushed to order. The cashier warmed our cinnamon rolls and although we had to wait for our drinks he continually gave us updates on his status. There's plenty of room outside or on the 1st floor but just up the stairs me and my husband had an intimate talk while enjoying our sweet treats. The cinnamon roll was fresh and my caramel latte was perfection. I wish this bakery was near me in Florida. Love Love Loved it!!! read more

When I'm in the mood for a sammich while at lunch, this is one of the first places I think to go to. With that being said, I think the majority of the workers in the area think the same since this place is always so packed. Since the line is usually out the door, usually you will have time to check out the menu while you're in line. Know what you want by the time you get to the from because sometimes they'll look at you crazy when you're not ready. Most of the time the employees are friendly and attentive. After you order, you may find a seat and a server will bring your order based on the number they give you at the counter. I haven't explored the menu for anything other than their basic sandwiches but I have spotted a few good looking goodies while eating. read more

It's sucks that downtown is not as active at how it should be because I just now realized that there are so many great restaurants around. but anyways, What a cute little cafe! The line can get long and seating is somewhat limited but we can usually find a table. Great for a quick and healthy lunch downtown. The sandwiches are very good and they have some of the best salads in town. My favorite is the Harvest Chicken Salad which includes fresh greens, dried cranberries, grilled chicken, apples, toasted walnuts, blue cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette. Very yummy! I have never been disappointed. To me one is as good as the other. This particular location, I was a regular when I worked downtown. Typically, I went there for breakfast from time to time. The food was good. Pricier than other establishments for an early meal, but again it was tasty. I was working in downtown Houston and needed a place to grab breakfast. We found this place and were excited at first because the food looked good. But from the get go things were pretty bad. I ordered a chai latte with a shot of espresso in it, and what I got was lukewarm milk that tasted vaguely like cinnamon, with no espresso added. Then we got our food, which was mediocre at best (and looked and tasted like it was pre-made). And finally I got up and asked where the restroom is, but I was told that the only restroom is in the basement of the adjacent building, and they don't open it up until 11am, so I was out of luck. So when we left I had to go to a different coffee shop to use a bathroom and get some decent coffee. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is that the people were friendly. read more

I had an overall terrible experience here. I ordered my breakfast which was a piece of cinnamon cream cake and a berry smoothie. while waiting for my breakfast, I saw that they had a pre packaged bagel plan and being the curious person I am, I walked over and right there for everyone to see, their display package had mold all over it. they didn't use fake food and even in that, they left it out for it looks like maybe a month. I didn't think much of it because they were a busy store but maybe, just maybe, they've been too busy to change it. but after all of that, I got to get my breakfast and go on with my day. that was the only thing I got to eat that day with my busy schedule and sure enough, I got food poisoning from eating at The Corner Bakery and I will never spend my money there ever again and I know that my family/friends won't either. read more

In Houston for a conference, and not wanting to spend $$$ for food at my hotel, yelped for some alternatives, and came up with this. Very similar to Panera, but the food is better. Had a club panini for lunch, and had to try the pumpkin pound cake. Both were quite good. It was good enough that I went back the next morning for breakfast: steel cut oatmeal (a pretty rare find) and lemon pound cake. This is a chain and I really don't have much to say about them other than they have an amazing harvest salad. It is flavored more by what they put in it than by the dressing and I absolutely love that. The nuts and crisp green apples are a perfect compliment to the light vinaigrette that comes with it. I come here for that because it is a healthy and delicious lunch. I will be leaving off the meat from now on though. I'm not a big fan. I just had the WORST EXPERIENCE at the 1000 Main location. Ordered 2 pastas to go and Celia decided that I should have to pay 59 cents for some Parmesan cheese! I always order this an have never had an issue before so I asked for the manager. Then Celia decided to try to convince the manager to charge me! I work near the downtown Houston location and it's definitely one of my go-to places. You have to get there early unless you go later because the line is usually out the door if not. They have a wide variety of baked goods showcased at the order counter and you can buy whole cakes etc. We've had lunch catered and it's just as good. There is a nice patio area that is covered so you can sit outside when it's nice out. They have great food and I'm especially partial to their harvest chicken salad and baby chocolate bundt cakes! read more

I work in the same building so I used to grab lunch Togo here pretty often. Recently it's just been bakery goods though Bc my last pomodori chicken panini meal with soup was completely repulsive. The bread was soggy and panini was pretty empty and sloppily put together and looks like I got the bottom of the pot burnt part of the soup. It grossed me out so much I haven't ordered an actual meal here since. However I love their bagels and desserts so those deserve the 3 stars. read more
