Came here with a family member to pick up a too good to go order. It was a tres leches cake, very beautiful and overall not too sweet, but not enough milkiness and too much icing. The bakery is sectioned by department (bakery, tamales, online orders, conchas, etc.) but when we walked in and asked where to pick up the order, two people didn't understand what we wanted, even after showing it on our phone, and a third came to help us (was not a language barrier, didn't know what too good to go was). Apparently it was new to El Bolillo and they were still getting adjusted to it. read more

The selection is amazing, the prices a tad higher (but still great). The coffee has been okay but their cafe de olla is really quite fantastic. I only got a billion con queso y jalapeno, the kids got pan pan dulce, everything was great. read more

We stopped in for some Mexican pastries, they have a plethora of that and a lot more. Tameles, some groceries, cakes of all kinds, smoothies, cookies, cake pops, cupcakes, empanadas, fresh tortillas, and of course bolillos. they have what looks like pizza trays and tongs near the front door so you can load up...i did....wasn't going to but I succumbed to the sweet tooth. Went in for bolillos and they are soft and pillowy on the inside with that crispy outer shell. I am lucky they are so close and close pretty late imo-10pm! Service was nice, a lady stocking the empanadas told me which were which which was so sweet since I then realized this is the only bakery where I could read the names to all on the tags underneath. So helpful! Ambiance is high ceilings and pretty open feeling (will post pics soon). Don't forget to grab the tray and tongs on the way in and enjoy the good prices too. read more

FINALLY there is a location in the Gulfton area! Upon entering into the parking lot, there was ample parking, which is great as the other locations can be difficult to maneuver around in/find spots. There was already trash strewn around the lot, which could've blown over from the gas station next door. My kiddo and I came here after seeing today was their official opening day on social media. Upon entering, it smelled of cleanliness, which was good, but I was also anticipating the delicious smell of Mexican bread (which was not smelled). Nonetheless, it was super clean inside and the workers were rather friendly. To my surprise, almost everything was actually labeled! All other EB locations only have labels here and there as to what everything is. This location had about 85% labeled, which is much better for us gringos! It would help, too, if they had the main ingredients or if something had cream cheese/etc. as it's not always apparent. While everything wasn't stocked since this was their opening day, they did have quite a bit of a selection and a TON of flour tortillas! I wish they would offer fresh corn tortillas, too! The best part? Checking out! They actually have a screen at this location that shows what's being rung up AND the price of each item! None of the other locations have this! Will I be back? You know it! Just maybe not that frequent as I'm watching my figure though. read more

I had been watching the construction of the bakery for quite some time. Then I saw an article that it had open. There's plenty of parking. I saw a sign upon entering that there is an aguas frescas happy hour from 2 to 4 p.m. on weekdays. When I went in, an employee was giving out samples of the aguas. They have hibiscus, horchata, and limeade. They're sweet. I inquired about Salvadoran sweets. They had quesadillas. I'm hopeful they'll eventually have semita. The place was spotless. They have a tamale station where the aguas are. And they do have vegetarian ones which I hope to try soon. I wasn't hungry, but for wish the sake of purchasing something, I got a rice pudding. It's pretty good. I wish they'd have a seating area, but the Mexican bakeries rarely do. read more

One of our favorite bakeries in Texas! Best commercially made tortillas, fresh bread of all types, including Mexican pastries. They also have cookies, cupcakes, cakes, and desserts. They have started carrying kolaches, but they're so popular we hardly ever find any. My daughter loves this one in particular because they have Nutella pastries. We like to take out of town visitors here because it's such a cultural experience, and a feast for the eyes. read more

Went this morning at 6 am and there were no bolillos at El Bolillo. Spoke to the manager, and he didn't seem to care. He said they all sold out yesterday. What do you mean they sold out yesterday? I wouldn't even want bolillos from yesterday anyway. The bolillos are supposed to be fresh. He said they would have some in an hour. That is quite ridiculous. That means that all customers coming within the next hour will not find bolillos. They would end up walking out with nothing just like me. That's not the way to make business. Also, the manager did not even apologize. I went back to ask for his name and he was laughing and mocking me because he thought I had left. His name is Victor. This is not the way to do business. Victor is arrogant and needs to learn how to treat customers and how he should run a business so he doesn't lose customers. Fui esta mañana a las 6 am y no había bolillos en El Bolillo. Hablé con el manager y no pareció importarle. Dijo que todos se acabaron anoche. ¿Como que se acabaron anoche? De todos modos, ni siquiera quería bolillos de ayer. The new location has a new look and ample parking space. The inside is clean and spacious and has all of the bakery items you may be familiar with from the other locations. Bollios, tortillas, cookies and pastries, refrigerated items, etc. Lots of clean trays and tongs. This location also has a tamales. The service was great. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but I felt like this needed to be shared. At 12:22 a.m. on April 26th, I parked briefly near the El Bolillo Bakery on Fountain View Drive to use the restroom at the gas station next door. I had been driving for hours and chose the bakery's lot because it was well lit and felt safer. I was gone less than five minutes. When I came back, my car was already hooked by a tow truck. I was told I had to pay $112 in cash immediately or it would be taken. The sign in the lot only said "No Overnight Parking." It didn't prohibit quick stops. I returned to the bakery the next day to ask for help. A woman told me she was the manager. A man beside her refused to give his name, then eventually said it was "Vic," but I left unsure if that was even true. They seemed more interested in shutting the conversation down than understanding what happened. What hurt more than the tow was the coldness. I've read how El Bolillo was celebrated after Hurricane Harvey for helping the community. That's why this experience felt so out of sync with what they claim to stand for. I've submitted a formal complaint to the Houston Police Department's Auto Dealers Detail, and I hope management will reconsider how this was handled -- not just for me, but for others who might park there in good faith. - Michael M. No more braving Galleria traffic to the Airline location. New location on Fountainview is excellent! Right at the corner of HWY 59. Excellent access, lots of parking. Bakery has been open 10 days. The store layout is much better to maneuver and reach your favorite pan dulce. Same quality and they also have the essential flour tortillas available.
