Went in for lunch today, My server was great but when i was standing in line waiting and what seemed like the host and boss came out and the boss got in the hosts face and was treating him so bad and he just kept going and was super aggressive!! He did this right In front of us!! We pushed that to the side and sat and ordered lobster roll, when it came out it had one piece of lobster meat on top and the rest was what looked and tasted like imitation crab..... for a $37 dollar lobster roll that was disgusting, I then found out that the 20% automatic gratuity doesnt even go to the server completely and they want you to write a 5 star review which helps the server but also covers up for all the bad reviews this place has. Came for an early dinner at 4:45 after a nice day on the beach. The location is great and super convenient! We sat and ordered at 5, then waited over an hour for our food. Between the three of us we ordered a wrap and two sandwiches, not even drinks or appetizers. Each time our waitress came by she apologized for the wait and said she was going to check on our food (she probably said this 6 times) but our food never came. Finally, she told us our ticket was next to be made in the kitchen and it should be out in 5 minutes. Well, 10 minutes later we were fed up and the live music stopped next door so the vibes were just bad. Since it was well after 6 at this point we decided to just get up and go to Chilis lol. It's a shame because the location is great, but the live music next door was the best part of the experience. Wish they could get their act together, but I would not recommend coming here. It's hard for me to ever rate a restaurant this low. I take my reviews seriously and with respect. We arrived at the restaurant at 3:10 pm. There was a line outside but no one at the hostess's podium for a while. So I excused myself to everyone in line and went in to ask if we needed to do a line for the bar as well... the answer was yes so I went back out. After a while with no movement someone came to line and asked if there was a party of two for the bar. We sat, and waited a while before someone took our order. Lady then finally came to take our order for drinks. The actual bar was out of service and they got all drinks from inside, even the draft beers were brought from inside. So no real bartender at the bar. Almost All drinks served on plastic cups. The piña colada was the only thing served on a pineapple but with core inside to occupied space. Service has an automatic 20% up charge and is terrible which is sad. It shouldn't be this way. This is a great location for fun happy party time. Lady taking our order was very dry to everyone, not just us. The people next to us were there when we arrived and didn't get there drinks order till after 10 minutes since we ordered ours. I had to follow up on our food order since it had been 43 minutes since we ordered. Waitress said, I was lucky it was not an hour very sarcastically next to two other customers that had just arrived. They couldn't believe that answer and decided not to order food. Just drinks. We both agreed the music was good. We finally got our food 52 minutes after. The fisherman platter was ok. Fries was perfectly crisp and hot. Calamari was rubbery and so was the fried clams. Potion was good. Unfortunately the Mahi Mahi was cold and rice was dry, cold and hard. It was so sad, it was surprising that they would put out something like that. I had to send it Back. Everyone around us touched it and was as surprised and not interested in ordering food there. The manager who I stopped to initially tell him the food was cold; was not surprised or apologetic. I have to say, the waitress (Maria) did apologize several times and offered me a new plate or soup and I declined. I didn't want it recooked unfortunately. Wall around us was falling apart as it they have left the place go. The bathrooms needed a lot of attention and cleaning. Very sad to say the least. Everywhere you looked had empty spaces and the lines were just not moving in front. We had to pay for parking as there's no free parking for this place. Placed a reservation for 7pm, then tried to change it to 6 by calling and texting multiple times, with no response. Arrived to restaurant and there were no patrons on a Friday night, which was a little scary. Waiter took drink orders and messed them up - one margarita was not the flavor expected, and a mojito tasted like soda water. Ordered apps and ended up choosing not to stay for dinner because food, drinks and service were so poor. We had a party of 5. The hostess didn't seem to know how to make a wait list, she said she had no way to tell us what the wait would be and she would "try to remember" who we were when a table was ready. Once we were seated we were able to place our orders, every single food item we received was ice cold. The lobster bisque (served in a plastic 99¢ Walmart bowl) was so cold it had a film on top and was taken off our bill. If your looking for good food and service you wont be getting it here, when you order you might as well put in all your food because it will take long to receive it and by the time you do, it will be cold, you will sit with your empty drinks since they dont check in on you often, and when paying $35 a lobster roll just know it will have 1 piece of lobster and the rest will be this subpar shredded lobster that taste so salty, the only reason it gets a star is because its ambiance is nice because its on the beach. I made a reservation at Kokomo online and reserved 2 beach chairs and an umbrella. When you make a reservation online, you get to choose your beach chair location so I picked 2 chairs closest to the beach which were available. In fact, almost all of the chairs were available at that time. Our reservation was for 11am. We were one of the first people to arrive and the hostess (who was not very friendly) seated us in 2 beach chairs that were the furthest from the beach in the last row. When I told her I had reserved two chairs up front she told me the computer had made an error with the resy and every other chair was reserved, even though every chair was empty. So we began to set up our stuff and one of the chairs was cracked. We told the hostess we wanted to swap chairs, and we got attitude. Then she told us that our server didn't start until 11:30 so we could order something then. At one point we tried to get a couple bottles of water but ultimately had to wait for our server. Service was very slow to start and it took over an hour to get our waters. Our server, Hamilton, worked his butt off all day. He was raking the beach, putting up umbrellas, taking orders and he was very friendly. Our food came out quickly and it was just ok. The pina coladas were good. We waited to see if the beach chairs would fill up, but they never did. A few people came and left. When the hostess seated one couple she told them that they were nice to her so she was being nice to them and giving them a good spot. My two stars are for the beach, which is beautiful and Hamilton. Definitely not worth the prices. We rented a cabana to enjoy some time at the beach with 4 people. After being "greeted" by 3 servers who didn't know where to take us for a cabana we rented weeks prior. We were finally seated and the chairs were ridiculously uncomfortable. We order our lunch - they don't serve tap water so you need to buy bottles of water - in our case they put the bottles on the table and they promptly rolled into the sand. The food arrived and was mediocre at best. It is very obvious that the 20% server tip is automatically built in to the price and they have no reason to provide good service. It was a disappointing experience overall and I would recommend going next door and enjoying some live music! read more

Went with a group and the food was absolutely terrible. The 2 for 1 lobster rolls were disgusting. I literally took one bite and could not eat the rest. I preferred clam chowder which you can tell was directly from the can. The craziest part was watching a line chef literally eat calamari directly from a plate that was then brought to our table. The waiter also told us that the chef does not like substitutions and would not allow a grilled chicken versus a fried chicken. I would completely stay away from this place. read more

Worst experience I've ever had. Service is super slow, if at all. The owner, Brian, has the worst attitude. He's extremely arrogant and it is clear that he doesn't have any passion for good food, good drinks or customer satisfaction. The food is not fresh and clearly everything comes in frozen. The drinks are watered down. Very disappointing. And the added on 20% service charge goes directly to the owner. It is NOT a tip for the servers. So on top of paying that added charge you still have to tip the servers with cash. Which the restaurant doesn't even accept. Avoid this place at all costs. Unless you're just going there for the beach. Hopefully the owner will decide to sell the restaurant and let someone who actually cares about the industry take over. read more

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. It is a complete waste of what could be a beautiful space. The restaurant is rundown, the staff is rude and overwhelmed, the service is unbelievably slow even when the place is nearly empty, and the food is simply terrible. Worst of all, the manager seems completely indifferent and clearly does not care about the customer experience. There is absolutely nothing I could recommend about this restaurant. First time patron. Rented a cabana; check in process was delayed (30 minutes), manager Ryan moved slowly and appeared overwhelmed and easily distracted. He must have been having a bad day, bc he told us to wait to the side and then got mad at us when he said he couldn't find us (we hadn't moved from where he told us to stay). The cabana was unclean, cushions were heavily stained, and the iron furniture frame was pretty rusty. There was garbage on the sand in the cabana. The service was slow (took another half hour to meet a server & receive menus) but food & drinks arrived pretty quickly. The sandwiches and fries were great, the drinks were watered down but tasty. This place automatically adds a 20% tip with your check. Our server wasn't very friendly and was forgetful, but there was another server we observed that was very engaging, personable, and received extra tips for his efforts. Overall, not a great first experience. We got treated like cattle when we arrived, not as guests. Won't be back. Not worth the hype. read more

I don't know how this restaurant stays in business with such terrible customer service. My family and I wanted to rent a cabana and had some questions. I tried contacting them for two weeks and got no response. No one picked up the phone, no one responded to my text message and no one responded to my online inquiry. What makes the situation even worst is the fact they sent me an email asking how their service was. The email asked to leave a positive review on their facebook page and click a link to give negative feedback. I clicked the link and explained the situation; not sure why I thought someone reach out. Their service is terrible and if it's this hard to get in contact with someone I can only imagine the service I would receive in person. Food portion was small. Prices are high especially because management adds 20% to bill whether you agree to it or not. Basic Margarita was $18. The only reason to come to Kokomo's is to sit by the water and be able to purchase food and drink. The place is a wreck. No one is sweeping the floor or emptying trash bins. Well I finally got to this wonderful establishment to check it out while here beaching it at Sound View. It gives you vibes like your on the islands on vacation. It has palm trees, loungers w umbrellas, cabana rentals but alittle to pricey $200. The location is perfect on the beach. Totally right next to the Pavilion. You can purchase food and drinks of your choice. Also they have the real pineapple or coconut $15 upcjsrcd ans get any drink of your choice for put in it for the he cost of the drink. Had rhe pins colada and buffalo chicken wrap which as very delicious. Also there is a surcharge of 20% added flat your bill even just to have a drink while summing on the loungers. It's definitely worth coming down to visit the next time you're in the area for the beach. Cool little place. Love it read more

Today my friends and I checked out Kokomo's for the first time in Old Lyme. It's right on the beach and the vibes are amazing! We got lounge chairs looking right out to the water and had such easy access when we wanted to take a dip in the water. In addition our service was wonderful! Rosalyn, our server, was so attentive the entire time we were there. I ordered the lobster roll and fries which were amazing and also the watermelon frozen margarita, which was very yummy ! HORRIBLE. Lots of yellow jackets/hornets were flying at the tables making the atmosphere unenjoyable. Food was trash and bland. Lobster sliders literally tasted like dry rubber and bread. Pina coladas tasted bland and I questioned if they even added alcohol. Hand helds like the burger and chicken sandwich has no flavor and were dry. The fried chicken sandwich tasted like oil they fried the chicken in so did the fries. Service sucked. We were never even brought waters nor did our server attend to us other than to take order and deliver food. It's a bummer the location is awesome but the execution is abysmal. Here is a picture of all the hornets I was able to swat while trying to make the most of being at this establishment. Also can't order sides al la cart which is dumb. We took our parents here for an early Fathers Day dinner and the weather was beautiful, but everything else was disappointing. The waiter was kind, but took a long time to greet us initially and then it took a really long time to get our food. Our appetizer came out at the same time as our food, and everything was lukewarm warm at warmest. We ordered a lobster roll and a lobster bomb, both which we were really excited about- both which were unfortunately lacking flavor and were fine at best. My espresso martini was very tasty and drinks were good overall, but the food was very disappointing especially for the price. We came here 2 years ago and had an AMAZING experience and were so excited to be back, and we left very disappointed. I hope they take these reviews and make the necessary changes to get back to the great experience they once were. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE! A group of 4 of us waited for a literal 2.5 hours from the time of ordering before we decided to finally leave. Two times our meals (and the appetizers) was given away to the wrong table. it took nearly an hour upon arrival to get the first drinks. every little detail in addition to the big ones was wrong. asking for straws (mixed drinks were missing them) led to being brought too few. drinks barely had alcohol if any at all (this problem is a theme if you look at enough reviews). throughout the time we waited, numerous people from various tables continued to leave due to lack of food showing up. we overheard a number of people complaining about no food coming. people complaining about prices ($23 for a burger). we finally just paid for what we had and told them to cancel the rest of the order. somehow it still costs $118 for 4 mixed drinks, 2 mixed drinks that were half a normal drink, and a single beer. please save yourself the trouble and don't go here. read more

How is this place still in business? It's clear the owner's buying 5 star reviews on Google, evidenced by the hundreds of 5 star ratings given all within the last couple hours. None of the reviewers with any other reviews. I went once and the service was horrible, drinks were watered down, and food came directly from the freezer. They don't give you water, you have to pay for it. The prices are super inflated and for what reason? It's disgusting. Dirty bathrooms dirty kitchen and not a server in sight unless they're bringing the food out. You also order on your phone and they charge a mandatory 20% gratuity no matter what your party size is, which shouldn't be legal. It's also added pre-tax so you're paying tax on this mandatory tip also. Not sure what I'm tipping when there's nobody even there to take anyone's order. This place is seriously suspicious and I'm shocked it hasn't gotten shutdown by the health department alone based on how filthy it is, let alone the food and service. First and foremost I don't like writing negative reviews but I can not help myself with this place. When we first got there no one approached us for 10 minutes. We had to ask someone multiple times about assistance, along with the couple behind us. When we were finally seated it took the server 15 minutes to come and take our drink order. The weirdest thing was, that he asked for a credit card upfront for payment, which is crazy, but I guess now I understand why based upon the rest of my story. I gave them my card and so we attempted to put our entire order in at that time so we could get our food faster. I had asked for bottled water with a cup of ice, and he continued to tell me that they could not do that because they are "short' on ice. I offered to pay for a cup of ice and he said he would have to ask his manager. Well we ended up waiting an entire hour until we asked our waiter where our food was, he said they were plating now. (mind you people that came in after us received their food orders). The food still didn't arrive so my husband decided to walk right up to the window where the food comes from and ask. They said it should be out in 2 minutes. Finally 5 minutes later we received part of our order. I did not receive my food and we had asked our server where my food was and he was like the sirloin tips should be right out, I said I didn't order sirloin tips. We ordered 2 lobster rolls with fries for the kids and 2 jerk chicken meals for myself and my husband. At that point we asked for the manager. Now as the manager approached we explained everything to her. She seemed very kind and genuine but does seem like she is "use to the complaints" considering how she responded. She did comp us two extra lobster rolls for the kids though, which was nice. Any which way I still paid a $200 bill which I find absolutely insane for the kind of service we had. I feel that the staff needs to be properly trained to handle their customers. In the end, I had to take my younger son to the bathroom which I can't believe how disgusting their bathrooms were. There was urine all over the floor and the toilet, and toilet paper all over the floor. Absolutely disgusting, I really truly believe the health dept should really check into this place especially after walking past the kitchen to see food all over the floor and what looked to be grime, mold, or just plain dirt that hasn't been cleaned. I really honestly thought this would be a great go to place for my family but now I realize I was highly mistaken. read more
