This morning I brought our car in for a safety inspection at the 76 in Koko Marina on Lunalilo Home Road. Dropped it off. Jon took all the information and was friendly as usual. Been going here for years. Got a call about an hour later that the car was ready for pickup. Safety check was $28 and all went well. Very fast service on a busy day! read more

This place is Highway Robery. I had safety check done and they wanted to charge me $75 to change a $1.50 bulb that took me 5 minutes to change. I give them -00000 stars but I had to put one to be able to post! read more

Last night, my two year old car just stopped running on the freeway. I had it towed to this station at 8pm because it's right next to my house. I called them and asked if it was okay for me to leave it overnight and they actually said yes. Usually, auto repair places all say no so I was really happy with that. This morning, I walked over to ask them to do the diagnostics and repair. When I told them what year my car was, the mechanic stopped everything and told me my car was still under warranty and to take it to the dealership so that the repair would be free. I didn't even think of this because I had bought it used and wasn't sure about the warranty. It was really nice of him to let me know! Hard to find such honest people sometimes and I appreciate them not taking me for a ride. If you know what I mean! read more

Koko Marina 76 sucks! Been going to them since 1985 and this time was awful! Long waits, RUDE staff, and made us go thru 2 safety checks in 1 day claiming that's DMV RULES because registration was expired. After we got our registration we had to wsit another hour plus to go thru safety check process again! Ridiculou! Go to Kalama Valley for your safety check and car needs! The heck with Koko Marina 76 ZERO RATING read more

While driving, my battery totally died because my alternator was bad. My car had to be towed to Koko Marina 76. They searched for an alternator and found one for my 24 year old car! They also serviced my car and did the safety check. What was really great is that they tried to recharge my battery but found it was totally dead. But instead of changing it and charging me for it, they said since I had AAA, call them and have them change the battery for free! I did exactly that and my car runs fine now. Thank you!! Awesome service!!! read more

I'm shocked at the negative reviews. I've only had positive experiences with my safety check and minor repairs. I've been a repeat customer for 9 years. In general, safety checks are a touch and go situation. I've had a couple of old (10 years+) cars and each time I brought them in there was always something that needed to be replaced or repaired. If this happens, the station always calls me to inform me right away and gives me the option of having it fixed there or elsewhere. read more

Rude service - they definitely find ways to overcharge for every little thing. They would not allow me to borrow a screw driver to avoid paying $80 for a safety check -- they advised I would have to pay an extra $35 for "labor". Go elsewhere. read more

Went for my safety inspection! Very polite and thorough. They had 3 or 4 people ahead of me but they got to me quickly

Do not bring ur car here. The owner tries to add additional "needed" services. I noticed a nail in one of my wheels and since I was close by, I said why not. I pay $30 for a plug at aina haina 76 but when I ask them how much for a simple tire repair, I was told that "it starts at $95". Clearly, that means it's going to be significantly more than that. Immediately left for aina haina 76 for the $30 repair that only took 30minutes. Never again. Don't waste ur time at this place. read more

they were extremely rude here i was trying to send them an email for the proof of insurance and he yelled at me and told me to just give him the money first and you can worry about the other stuff later very impatient then 20 min later he called me yelling again saying i never sent the proof of insurance this place is a joke read more

Good place to get your once a year auto safety check. Cost is $25 plus tax. Pro tip: don't go on a Friday or Saturday, they are slammed. Pick a Tuesday or Wednesday morning and get there early. read more

If I could leave a negative star, I would. I've been scammed by these people previously, however, for convenience, I decided to drop my car off before work for a simple safety check. I told the guy at the desk (the owner) that I only have my insurance card on my state farm app, since I opted for a digital copy. As I went to show him, he said "email it to this," pointing at the email address on the window. He told me since it was such a busy day for safety checks, it would be a while which was fine because I had to head to work. He knows me and knows that I work in the same shopping center and that I would come back after work. As I was trying to email him my insurance card at the time I dropped my car off he told me not to worry and that I could send it later. Came back after work. It was only the rude lady in the office there that gave me my keys, not even mentioning the fact that they failed my safety check! After I went back to her she said that I failed because of lack of proof of insurance and my front blinker indicators were "faded." She said all the guys were gone and theirs nothing she could do. My front blinker lights are perfect. Even asked a fellow police friend. They scam people by saying something is wrong with their car, although it isn't. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS SHADY SCAM BUSINESS FACILITY. They are shitty people. Period I wish I looked at the other comments on here before supporting this animals read more

I needed a nail removed from my tire and was quoted $190.00 to repair. I told the lady I could buy another tire for that price and she said , that was the price. I'm never going back to this gas station again. VERY RUDE !!!!! read more

Was surprised at the amount of negative reviews here, what do you expect from a gas station? I can't pass much judgment on the customer service because I rarely interact with anyone, but it has everything that I need. An automated car wash, food mart in case I have the munchies, and it even has a station to fill up tires which is actually hard to find at other gas stations these days. Have never had any problems at this location, and have been coming for years. read more

It didn't surprise me to see so many unhappy customers from this gas station. I also do not recommend this place: it's overpriced, long wait to get anything done, even safety check; you are treated like you are a bother to them and with no respect. I agree: the place is disgusting, full of incompetent, arrogant employees and managers and I agree: it should be replaced with better businesses as residents of Hawaii Kai and Hawaii should experience excellence in customer service and caring attitude with Aloha. Love Hawaii read more

Very rude customer service and outdated station. Expensive prices and not worth dealing with these turtles. You can't get them to service your vehicle on time or get you a safety check without a big issue and disgust. Typically will tell you it'll be hours before you can get the safety check when it looks empty. I wonder how long it can just exist. read more

Really? $215 to do a oil change on a Volkswagen and $350 to change one tire. Total rip off. Hawaii Kai 76 is clueless and a total scam. They also take 3-4 hr just to do safety check($25) where as KT Auto in Kalama Valley takes 10-15min If you live around the area, go to Aina Haina 76 instead. Aina Haina 76 charged me $80 for oil change and $150 for tire change and actually knows what there doing read more

Needed to get a safety check to register my car because mine was expired. Waited 2 hours for a safety check, got a temporary one and then headed to get my car registered. When I got to the registration they said they couldn't register my car because it failed a safety for my window. They never told me that when I picked my car. I had to wait a week to get the part and a few days more to get it repaired. So I went back today first thing in the morning today to get my recheck. They told me I have to wait 1-1/2 hours even though all they need to do is check the window. When it's done I have to go to registration and come back a 3rd time to get it reinspected for the registration. Another 1-1/2 hour wait - probably. Last time this happened they said I had to put the registration decal on my plate before they could reinspect it. I asked them if they could do it for me. No! I asked the if I could borrow a screwdriver so I could take the plate off to put on the sticker. Sorry, we don't lend tools. Had to go home, put in the sticker and then come back and wait again. No aloha and no common sense going on here. read more

The service station themselves call the mechanic mcgyver? These guys are a joke. Saying they support the community! Needed help with a 10 second job for a wrench, the, I won't even call him a mechanic, guy in the bay would not even look at me, the boss came out and did the same. I have taken my cars here in the past for inspection, and that's about all they can do. Rude, Rude, Rude, just read the other reviews and you see why they have 1 star ratings. Please retire, all of you and staff and get new people in there that care, or close like other businesses in hawaii Kai so people don't keep getting terrible service. read more

Second time getting a safety check - They don't take appointments, it is first come first serve. Both times they completed it quickly, within 30 minutes of arrival, both morning times. Meh. I promised myself years ago I would never come back to this 76 station because they were super rude, but I was in a bit of a situation when I realized I was overdue for an oil change and they were the only place who had a same day appt. I tried them out again. The cost was similar to other shops for a basic oil change.. but there just seems to be something off about this place. Maybe it's just a gut feeling but I just don't really trust that they do what they say. For example, my windshield fluid was empty when I turned it in, and on the form they wrote that they filled all the fluids including the windshield fluid, but after a couple of sprays, it was empty.. just all seems kind of suspect to me. Like why write you filled it up if you didn't? I would totally have just bought some fluid if I needed to. Anywho, it's super close to my house, so I can't honestly say I'll never come here again, but if I could recommend a shop it would def be aina haina 76 before hawaii Kai 76. read more

I hate that time, that safety check time. That time for me to bring in my car, to get my car check!! I get stressed out & worry every time. That my car won't pass.. This is the 2nd year I took my car to this 76. as it is convenient for me, I work down the street from here. I called to get information on safety check, I don't remember how I did it last year. Its on a first come first serve basis, no appointments. When I got there, checking in my car was simple. The manager/owner ( didn't get his name) he was friendly, got my documents, dropped off my keys, & he said it will be close to 45 mins to an hour. I was hoping sooner, but I had to get this done since my safety check expired last month. I took a stroll around Koko Marina, got back, my car was nexts. Waited 15 mins & done!! Yay, glad I'm good til another year. ( for this car) I need to get one more car out of the way. Just a note: you will have to pay for your safety check ahead of time. & they need hard copy of insurance documents. The safety check is submitted electronically thru the ipad. No papers to keep, means less papers to carry. I had great service here!! They were busy on this day!! & I see many cars that needs to be serviced. Thank you 76 for the great service. I will be back for the other car's safety check. read more

Don't go here for anything, not even a safety check...they will find/make something broken, like a side marker light and tell you you have to change it before getting the safety check. They also rip you off on car charging...something that should only cost $40, costs $120 there. read more

This station lacks customer service. I went to this station years ago and remember the manager/mechanic. He did not do a good job and over charged on a simple oil change. I vowed never to return. I remembered he had a big ego and wore a shirt that was 3 sizes too small. Unfortunately, I had to fill air in my tire and pulled up to the self serve and put $1.50 in the machine. I had trouble with the air nozzle so so went to the office to ask for assistance. The same mechanic/manager and another mechanic were present. No greeting, he told me you will have to pay $20+ to have him fill air in my tires. Told me I pulled up to the self serve and if I wanted to have him fill I needed to pay . Most replicable places charge ZERO $0. Now I remembered why I had not gone back to this place. Funny, he was still wearing a shirt 4x too small. Well, told to others that day and they too experienced same expe and read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. My Dad had a nail in his tire, went there, the tech said they could do it, they'll call when it's done. So my Dad went to 24 hours to workout in the meantime, 10 mins later, the tech calls and says it'll be $66. $66 to repair a freakin nail in the tire! Who in their right mind charges that much for a patch?! Anyway, he went ahead with it bc he had no choice- late in the afternoon and needed his car for work the next day. Long story short, $66 and 1 week later, there's a slow leak in the tire. Thanks for nothing, 76 Gas in Hawaii Kai! If you possibly can, go somewhere else. read more

the overnight cashiers are very rude and never smile. they ignore customers by putting a hand written sign on the door stating "be back at...(whatever time)" while me and a few other people are waiting in our cars so that she can change out the window washing fluid (the ones with the squeegees in them at the pump..). not trying to be sarcastic but really? I frequently fill gas here and also did safety check a number of times over the years-- and have been pleased with their safety check service each time. I worked in the Koko Marina Shopping Center in Hawaii Kai for years, so always found this service station very convenient for my oil changes, safety checks and occasional odds and ends maintenance on my cars. I found it very convenient to be able to drop off my car early in the morning before the start of my workday and be able to just walk over at the end of my shift in the early evening and retrieve my car. They always called my workplace to give me a heads up when my car would be ready or if additional work needed to be done. I never questioned any of the costs ever quoted to me, the question was usually if they had the part and could take care of it that same day while they had my car. Safety is very important to me as well as my time. read more

WORST SERVICE ON THE WHOLE ISLAND!!!! The guys there don't know how to treat people there. The ancient dinosaur man running the joint made me come back 3 times to get my safety check. Each time, I was compliant with the standards. He gave me a hassle about my tinting, which was 45% visibility and perfectly legal on Oahu. Then it was an issue about my lights not being reflective enough. The third time I think he just wanted to mess with me. Also he charged me too much for the safety check to begin with. Their prices are right on the window and he still charged me more. Also, each time I went, it took over 1.5 hours to do a 7 minute safety check. I dropped my car off, went and walked around Koko marina for an hour, and then came back and they hadn't even started!! Anyway, do not come here to get your safety check. Go to your local mechanic and don't support this mess. My mechanic Keoki works in Aiea and is the best. Will never be coming to this 76 again. I only did it because it's close to where I live. read more

I've stopped by here previously for gas but made an emergency visit here as I could smell and see smoke coming from my car when I parked it at Koko Head trail today! Been procrastinating the oil warning lamp for DAYS now and last week made an appointment for the regular oil change this coming Tuesday in town. But I then realized I should have checked my oil sooner as it was running really, really low. I came here as this gas station was the closest. Ended up getting 2 quarts of 530 at $6.50 each. After slowly pouring in both bottles, my car no longer had the clicking noise and the oil lamp light disappeared within a few minutes. Overall, a decent experience here as it saved my car from possible engine damage. read more

So I've been coming to this place for a while for a safety check. It wasn't busy and it was at 630am. Guy told me that it might take till 9am as usual but they're usually faster than that around 45 min to an hour. I wait the full 2 and 1/2 hours for 9am to arrive and go to check on my car. Instead of having my safety check completed they told me that their IPad wasn't working at all today. Did I receive a call? No. I heard the cashier tell the mechanic that she forgot to call me. Basically they wasted my time from the time I got there. I understand things go south but I've had other issues with this place including grumpy service. However some people get really great service over here from the reviews I've read so I guess its hit or miss at this 76. read more

Wife told them that I would change the wiper blades. She picked up her van and was charged for new wiper blades at $20 each. I gotta admit ...saw some negative reviews of this place but I really try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I figured just getting a safety inspection shouldn't be too bad... right? Here's what I was told: No appointments 8 to 9 am on Saturday Pay first and park on the side I come in a few minutes before 8, one car is already getting a Safety inspection so I park on the side, pay and wait. While I'm waiting 3 customers just drive up and immediately get a Safety check! After over an hour of waiting I kindly ask if I misunderstood and appointments are taken..."nope...no appointments " Ok, so I ask why the 3 customers were taken before me..."I'll check with the mechanic..." the mechanic proceeds to take another 2 customers and then leaves the station... not feeling too hopeful at this time...(1.5 hours later). Mechanic returns and starts working on a car...I ask when he can get to it...a half hour? "I'm not sure." Oh boy! My only guess is that it's a racist response as I'm white... oh well though I've lived in hawaii almost 40 years still judged by the color of my skin. Bummer... Giving 2 stars as the cashier was quick at charging and refunding! read more
