A big mahalo to the Palolo Auto Service crew for doing an impeccable job with the brakes on my Nissan Frontier. They took on the task within a couple of day, were friendly, so fast, and yet so effiicient. Received a call to pick up the truck in 2 1/2 hours time, and so reasonably priced. Will always have our vehicles serviced here. Thank you again so much! read more

Palolo Auto went above and beyond to take care of my 2019 Honda Civic when the starter broke down. They answered my call right away and guaranteed that someone could look at my car the same day even though there was just one mechanic. Within an hour of the tow truck dropping off my car, Jay called me to notify me of the issue. He was extremely transparent with the quote, explaining the price of the starter (which they ordered to be delivered to them) and of the labor. Jay also helped me understand what could have caused the problem in the first place. The total price ended up being lower than I was expecting and much lower than an identical service I had needed a couple years ago in California. By the next morning, (less than 24 hours of my car being dropped off) it was completely fixed and able to be driven again! Jay even suggested I take my car into a Honda auto shop to investigate whether I needed a Honda specific part to replace a potential loose gasket that could be causing an oil leak (which would ruin the new starter in the future). Thank you for being so responsive and taking the time to diagnose, fix, and propose a proactive solution to future issues with my car! I will definitely be coming back to Palolo Auto :) read more

I called and asked if I could bring my car in because oil was leaking underneath. They took my car right away and diagnosed the problem within a couple of hours. Great service and will take my car back next time! read more

Read my entire review! I normally don't care to write these but wow. My family has had multiple cars fixed, serviced, and maintained by Palolo auto. I was originally referred to them by my uncle who I trust and he said they do quality work at a great price. I had some issues with my car and I wasn't looking forward to going in but I went anyway and man was I shocked at the experience. Ross and the guys at this station have gone above and beyond every single time I go to their station. They have been nothing but fair and understanding. And best of all, they have fixed every issue that has come up in my car with no hiccups. They have even suggested alternative options to save me the cost of repairs, which is such a blessing. It's nice to know they are looking out for their customers and not just interested in making the extra dollars. Most of their reviews are incredible and for a good reason! I recommend this place to all my friends and anyone who lives in town. I was reading some of the 1 star reviews on their page and I could not relate to it at all. Reality is this place deserves 5+ stars. They are actually the best and I have no relation to them whatsoever so I'm not just a random family member writing them a review. Thank you for all the work you do Palolo Auto! read more

Palolo Auto Service - Truck - Gas Stations Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Love these guys (even if they really give me the sense that the feeling isn't mutual, lol). They've worked on a couple different cars and I've never gotten the sense that they're trying to do anything unnecessary or expensive. Seems more like they just want to fix your car, avoid small talk, and get you out of their shop. read more

Been going here two decades! Took my car in when it was broken and I had no appointment. Was late with a flat tire, and they fixed it in 8 minutes!!! Ross and his dad Jim are experts in the field, and will search the state over for a car part. I needed a new radiator, thought it was going to take weeks..but they found it in a day!! read more

These guys rock! There's no other way to put it. One of the nightmares each year for everyone who owns a car in Hawaii, is trying to find a place to get your safety check. Most places will not take appointments, and you have to just drive in, with the wait being usually an hour to 2 hours. Who has that kind of time? If you live in Kaimuki, Kapahulu, palolo area, then give palolo Auto Service (a 76 gas station) a call and ask them what the wait is. They're super reasonable, and will get you in and out for a safety check in about 10 to 15 minutes. Unreal! This is a real Gem, and a real find. They also change tires, and do all around repair work for your vehicle, as well as self-service and full-service gas. I can't recommend palolo Auto Service highly enough! As I said, these guys rock! They are located right on the corner of 6th Avenue, and Waialae Avenue, right across the street from McDonald's and Times Market. read more

I called a week ago to make an appointment for a safety check. The guy who answered was very rude right off the bat and basically assumed that I was getting my safety check at the last minute (I was not since I was calling to make an appointment in the beginning of the month). On the day of my appointment, I went in and the worker says that 1) their safety inspector called in sick (so why didn't call me to let me know?) and 2) that they don't even take appointments, it's walk in only. And the only person who "takes appointments" (the worker also used air quotes when speaking to me) was they boss. I was very frustrated since I took the afternoon off to get this done and drove out of my way to do it. Disappointing service. read more

Ran in yesterday and today for last minute safety checks on both cars ... these guys are ON IT !!! Fast and efficient ... on top of that one of the guys fixed my husbands rattling pan that no one has been able to remedy ... bonus ! Still one of the only gas stations I know that pumps your gas for you... highly recommend them !!! read more

I dont know much about the staff but it makes me smile to see that old man work ethics and I come back time and time again as I observe his relationship with all the staff. I've had great chats with all here that mostly keep to themselves but when I ask questions, etc., I've always been treated like a neighbor! I get my safety check done here every year. And the prices for car services were fair and explained to me very well. Basically, I trust them! I explain what's going on and maybe they can tell what kind of driver I am but they admit to giving me advice they think suites me. It's cute and I enjoy my interaction every time I have to go. read more

Usually come here for my oil changes...since i've become too lazy to do it myself nowadays. Always had no problems and service was great. My 16 year old car decided to give me problems (swerve light came on). They ordered the parts and fixed my car (even my door power locks) in one day...actually 6 hours! Steering is great and power locks working again! Always use them for oil changes and definitely using them again for repairs...although I hope I won't have to. Thanks! read more

I always take my truck here for servicing. Every time I call them they have all been nothing but professional. If my truck has a problem that they cannot fix, they always refer me to places that specialize in the work that needs to get done. One mechanic was able to diagnose a rear main seal leak just by looking at my engine! Took my truck (which has 330,000+ miles) to Ford dealership and they confirmed that's what it was. These guys know their stuff. On the last two occasions where my car needed attention because of a battery light or something else came up I took it to them (even when they are slammed busy) they are able to diagnose and call me right away to inform me of what they will be working on and got my truck fixed and back in my possession the same day. Jim is the nicest guy when it comes to business relations and his knowledge of different vehicles. Ross is all about efficiency, knows how to run that place and always gets me the best deals. All of their staff shows aloha and always a pleasure doing business with them. I live in Kaimuki so it's great to know that I have a trusted mechanic right up the road. Mahalo you guys! read more

Went in on 1/13/2023 for a safety check. Two male workers (one of them named James?) told me that they no longer do safety check. My family and I have been going to this place for years for safety check. Guess we gotta go elsewhere now. :( read more

Fast and efficient service. My alternator was replaced in 3 hours for $442. I'm happy with that. The 5 star rating is for mechanical work, not for warm and fuzzy service. I've been to the other place where there is friendly customer service but was price gouged and charged for things that were not needed. These guys may be short on social skills, but you can count on them to do the job right, fast and at a fair price and not try to sell you things that are not needed. read more

RUDE!!!!!! They half fast their job. I brought my car in for a coolant leak, 5 days later all the coolant leaked out and my car overheated. I called again them to tell them, and the guy Ross started screaming over the phone, got defensive and told me " so anytime ur car breaks down it's our fault bc u brought it here?" With an attitude. NO but its been 5 days after I brought it in for a Coolant leak. And 5 days later all the coolant leaked out ! How's that for quality service ? read more

Moved back to Hawaii 2 years ago and luckily never had any car issues....until the other day. Accessory drive belt on my car snapped on the freeway at 5am. I was able to get to a safe stop and get AAA to tow my car. Scrambling to find an open repair shop was quite an impossible task that early but Palolo Auto was open and answered the phone. Very grateful to Ross for being willing to receive my car and take a shot at the repair. Made it to work late and left the task in Palolo Auto's hands. Evreryone I dealt with on the phone was very courteous and professional. Car was ready the very next day. They even did tire rotation (since the car was up) and offered to do my safety check (without having made an appointment). Big props to Jared and the other guys working that day. Being short staffed and friendly is never easy so gotta show my appreciation the next time I go to see them. Living in Kaimuki, Palolo Auto is conveniently located off Waialae, service is awesome, staff is on top their game, they won me over. Big Mahalos! read more

I needed to change the starter ASAP. Knowing The dealership was going to charge me $755 and another Kaimuki repair place quoted $450 for parts and labor, I called Ross for a quote. He quoted me $410. I asked when the next available appt was and he said to come tomorrow morning. I brought my car in at 830a this morning. He stated my car would be ready at about noon. At 9am I got an update call from the mechanic stating my car would be done by 1030a. Went in at noon and picked up my car. This was the easiest car repair transaction ever. Fair prices and great service made the hurt of paying for car repairs much more bearable! Good stuff guys! read more

I kept having bad luck with Alternators so I pulled into here, because they seemed like they would help same day, and they did! Service was great, and easy! I'm not sure about labor cost $300 seemed high for a job that should take under 2 hours. But they sold me a quality part for a price that I would of payed if I bought it myself. Overall Id definitely return. read more

I went to another place to get tires, while changing them they told me my break pads were in bad shape. They told me I needed they changed in the next month. Totally believing them I came to Palolo auto service for a change. The are SO AMAZING! they looked at my car and told me my break pads were in top notch shape, needing no change. Thankfully for Palolo auto I didn't get scammed into new breaks when mine are in great condition. Forever my go to mechanic for their honesty & hard work! read more

took my car in a month or so ago afor an oil change and started seeing exhaust coming out of the tailpipe so i took it to honolulu bummer service who let me know that the wrong type of oil was put into my car. go to honolulu bimmer if you have a bmw. it's common knowledge that bmws require specific types of oil if they did not have this type of oil it would have been their responsibility to let me know that they could not service my car. and if they were underwear then maybe they're not qualified to be servicing cars. awful business practices. do not go here. read more

Like everyone says the man who runs this place, Jim, is amazing. They do not over charge here, and they don't try to talk you into anything that you don't need. You can tell that they are fair, and you can tell that his entire staff respects him and really cares for him. He's just a really good guy, who as I was talking to him learned leads a really amazing life of giving and charity. He has personally worked in this location for 72 years. You won't find anywhere better to go. I let my car sit and rot in my driveway for 18 months, never moved it and barely ran it. It was all locked up and wouldn't even move. Brakes, calipers, all of it. But it came out to be a dream come true on a price that was less than I had even thought, and they were done with it two days before what he quoted me. People like Jim are why yelp is so amazing! read more

First off Mahalo to Ross the Owner and Manager who at the last minute was able to take our car in. The check engine light came on and while my wife was driving, it stalled on the freeway, fortunately she was able to restart it and get home safely. I called Ross and he said to bring it in and they'd see what they could do, I also asked if they could change the spark plugs as I haven't done that since we bought this used car. I brought it in early today and got a call back several hours later, saying they identified and corrected the problem, it turns out that the air intake manifold needed to be repaired and a part replaced. Like I said I got a call back that it was ready only a couple hours after dropping it off. The car runs great, the service was phenomenal and the cost quite reasonable. It's really nice having a well qualified service station in the neighborhood. It's a small shop but they really hustle. Other shops you may see cars there overnight some likely taking days if not weeks, here most nights their lot is empty, meaning owners got their cars back that day! Can't say enough for Palolo Auto Service, Manager Ross and his crew. I remember my own Dad taking his car there years ago and it being worked on by him. His son Ross took over the business a few years back and continues the family neighborhood business. Thanks again read more

The worst customer service ever and super unfriendly owner, Ross. I'd never recommend this rip off station. I stopped in because my gma took her car there, she passed and we needed service for her car as the check engine light went on. He spoke very rudely and made me feel unwelcome, like I was wasting his time and didn't even care my gma his customer died! He told me he couldn't do an simple 5 min check engine diagnostics hook up. I'd have to wait but didn't tell me how long and that it would cost unknown $95 + depending on his test. He wanted to charge me for more then I asked help for. Not sure how he stays in business! read more

Rude and not helpful. Obviously I do not know anything about cars. I called and ask if they can do diagnostics in my car. I told him what happened and my car started to make a noise and engine went dead. I replaced the battery and it is working again, but the car sounded different after that. I ask if I can bring the car and have it check, he said "I do not know exactly what you want us to check if the car is already working", "The car diagnostics is very broad and I do not know what you want us to do", "do you understand?" So unfriendly, not helpful at all and very rude. Then, I just said, okay, he replied okay bye. read more

On the corner of palolo and waialae is union 76, a permanent fixture in Kaimuki. Palolo Auto Service is what service stations use to be, SERVICE! Instead of typical gas n go operations owned by the oil companies, this station offers full service gas pumping, window washing, safety checks and auto repairs. This station is family owned after three generations and has been in business since the 40's. In this era of wallet gauging fluctuating gas prices, it's nice to see a family station still in operation. The longevity of the employees is what keeps this place ticking, and the loyal customers who've been coming here since ever since. It's really sad to see the old mom and pop stores, restaurants, and stations being replaced with big corporate america. We need a new generation to support local thriving business's just like our grandma and grandpa use to. Yeah, I don't fill my tank here everytime, but I do get my oil changed, a repair here and there, and all my safety checks done. Todd is a great mechanic, and Ross, the son's owner who's taking over the business runs a tight ship. You know a business is doing something right when you walk into the office and it's filled with boxes of manapua, cookies, candies, fruits, all of them gifts from the old ladies who've been coming here since ever since. Support your local business's, if not this one, find one near you. read more

We recently purchased a used truck from craigslist, but by the second day, it wouldn't start. On the 4th day, it finally started, but ran really rough, loud, and basically terrible. It took us a while to finally make the call to get it checked out, but I finally did, and got an appointment for four days later. I took it in at 6 am, and by mid afternoon had gotten a call---the truck was running on 3 cylinders, basically the engine needed to be rebuilt. When we came in to pick it up, Ross was very informative, professional, and even though we asked lots of questions he didn't seem bothered or irritated, and gave us good feedback on what we could do from there. Bottom line, we learned "buyer beware," so get your used car checked out first, even if the private party seller seems genuine and honest, you too can be had. On top of all of that, Ross didn't charge us for the diagnostic test. To me, that's something not many shops would do. I think it says a lot about their customer service, and heart. So at the end of the day, we got a shell of a truck, but eh, we found a great service station we know we'll go back to. read more

I have used this station for safety checks and like the fact that they will take appointments. Recently I was driving in Manoa and hit a (turns out) very deep pothole. The car started making intermittent noises. The next day we called Palolo Auto and they said they could look at it right away. We got there about 20 min later. They said it would take about an hour and a half to check it out so we went to have some lunch. While eating, they called and said it was a brake shoe that broke and they could fix it in about another hour. Estimate was $110. They called again when done and we went back. They gave us the broken part and the bill was $107. This company is honest, trustworthy, respectful and friendly. We will continue to use their services in the future. Thank you, Palolo Auto staff! read more

This service station is probably THE MOST HONEST place you can bring your car. Jim and Ross take care of their customers. Particularly the older generation widows who have lost their husbands. I know for a fact that this service station has a multi-generational customer base. Grandparents and grandkids all come here. Jim or Ross or Todd, can be trusted to be honest with you about what is wrong with your car unlike other places that rip you off and give you big surprise bills. This won't happen here. Not sure what the heck the man/woman "Cheniel" below is talking about saying this place is "sketchy". Honestly, your reviews look sketchy as if written by someone who didn't have the money to fix their car and wanted free service by complaining. Thank you for all your years of service to the local community Palolo Auto Service. I trust you folks ANYTIME. I've recommended friends come here and they've always had excellent service and won't go anywhere else. read more

I remember my grandpa telling me how service stations were a great place. I think this is the type of place he meant. The gas station keeps full service gas along with great car servicing through out their 65 years of business. Jim is no doubt awesome. I came in today with an unintentional super last minute curveball that i had to have the car fixed in 1 1/2 hours because of work and instead of letting me know they can't do it right off the bat like I would expect, he said he is gonna give it a shot. He quoted me a very cheap price too. Every single thing I am getting serviced for, I'm getting exceptional services. I'm definitely gonna try to fill in gas there all the time from now on! read more

I am new to the island and sought yelp for recommendations for a repair. I found Palolo Auto Service. I first stopped in and saw Ross. He quoted me an estimate. My father was a mechanic, but unfortunately for me I am not very gifted in that area. However, I do know alot about business and can cut through b.s. about things because I spent alot of time with my father fixing and repairing things. He always taught me to get 2 or 3 estimates and to check into things yourself. So that's exactly what I did. I called up various shops and got estimates and opinions. The price Ross quoted me for the work was right on. The next day I called him and scheduled an appt. I brought the vehicle in and dropped it off. I asked him to call me if anything came up and basically held my breath. I got a call just a few hours later in the morning. I was a little anxious, thinking it might be the "we found this (fill in the blank)" because it was still relatively early. Ross was simply calling to let me know the vehicle was ready. Oh and his mechanic tightened my belts (which was a completely different part of the engine) for free to stop the annoying sqealing sound they were making. I showed up picked up my car and had a good experience. read more

Best shop I've ever been to, no contest. Thank you Ross! Usually I do all my own work on my car because I don't trust mechanics, but this shop has really impressed me. I was having a problem with my car and I couldn't figure out what was wrong so I took my friend's recommendation and drove my car over to Palolo Auto Service. About an hour and a half after I dropped off my car they called me and told me that my timing belt skipped some teeth because the spring on the tensioner went out. I decided that I might as well just do the whole timing belt/water pump/seals while they're down there. They called me again another couple hours later and told me my car was ready. I was thinking to myself WOW that was quick! And because of bad past experiences with mechanics and my distrust of them I started thinking to myself did they really do all that work that quick?! I was happy my car was done but still a little skeptical. All of that skepticism changed once I got back to the shop. Ross told me what they did to the car and showed me the breakdown of all the costs and even knocked a few dollars off the labor cost for me. Then to my amazement he handed me a box with all the parts that they replaced! I'm thinking to myself the whole time no way, I've never dealt with a mechanic this honest before! Best of all my car purrs like a cat now and it's running great! The fact that they actually showed me the parts they replaced really has changed my entire perspective on auto mechanics! Super stoked right now that I've found a shop that I can trust and I know they are being honest with me. I will definitely be coming back to Palolo Auto Service if I need some work done on my car in the future now that I know I can trust the guys at this shop. Thanks again for the great experience, I really appreciate it! read more

I found this place on yelp. I made an appointment for a safety check and was in and out in about 30-40 minutes.
