This is only the second time I've had African food and jollof rice. I wasn't too hungry so I just got the Jollof rice plate with oxtail and kale. I loved the flavor of it so much, I almost licked my plate clean! It tasted different from the other time I had this dish, which had more of a tomato flavor. Kojo kojo makes their jollof rice super peppery and more on the savory side and I honestly prefer this taste over the tomato taste. Next time I'm in the area and craving African food, I'll be sure to try other dishes on the menu!

Plantains. Not oily at all, perfectly made.

THIS PLACE. came for the the Fufu and Egusi, left with so much more. First , they make homemade soursop seamoss drink that is heavenly. The fufu is perfectly made, light and fluffy , wrapped in a beautiful leaf ( banana leaf ? I'm not sure) love that it wasn't wrapped in plastic. The egusi soup is perfect. Can have it vegan or with any meat / fish of your choice. Loved the okra stew as well. The plantains are perfect. He only uses olive oil, and everything is very mindful. They have Amapiano playing when you walk in , so we were dancing while he made our food. Thank you !! Will be coming back A LOT.

This is what we thought we got but...this is not what we got at all.

*update: While I appreciate the owner reaching out via review response I have to politely decline the invitation to come back and try them out again. We spent almost $80 and got hardly any meat, cold food, burnt ends of fish...all provided in the photos. No refund was issues. No kind of credit was offered. Do I want to go and waste another $80? No. Not in this economy. I understand the bank issue but that doesn't address the lack of quality in the food being served. I can't recommend this spot, at all.

The jollof rice among the other popular items here are very good, good seasoning and good overall taste. Every time I come here I ordered a big platter or multiple plates. Definitely recommend

First time trying Nigerian food and wow the food is good. It took me some time to get used to the texture of the fufu but I got it. From pulling a piece of fufu to dipping it into the soup and swallowing it whole, is such an interesting experience. Blessed to try foods from different cultures. We ordered both Egusi and Ox tail soup, and they were hot and flavorful. The meat is tender and cooked perfectly. Ahhh the meat just falls off the bone. Not much space to dine but great for take out and bring home to eat!

Drove here from Palo Alto with some friends, and it totally lived up to the hype! The owner greeted us when we entered and explained that they had changed their name from Jolly Jolly, which is what I had saved on my phone before. We all tried Jollof Rice for the first time, and each chose different meats on it. The chicken, goat, and fish were all great, and the Jollof Rice was incredibly flavorful! There were other fruits and veggies mixed in, the plantains were great. It was a generous portion that I was just able to finish. FYI the water was free! The restaurant is small but has indoor and outdoor seating. While we ate, they were playing African music, which was a total vibe. I even ended up adding some songs to my Spotify! The owner was super nice and was happy to answer our questions about the difference between Ghanaian and Nigerian Jollof. I will 100% be coming back here to try Fufu!

Is the Egusi soup witn no meat and no fish vegan?

The egwusi is non-vegan soup that also contains a little bit of crayfish flavor.

Regarding food allergies, do you use peanut or cashew in your dishes?

Not at all. We do not use cashew nuts or peanuts in almost all our dishes. However, there is an exception that is our aboki chicken suya. The suya contains peanut and other local spices.

Please also remember that all Caribbean dishes are different and that this is a Trinidadian food. Spicy beef & Chicken Curry patties - 10/10 honestly, flavor was THERE! Me and hubby LOVED the chicken curry. It was pieces of chicken and that was the big win for us. Calypso Brown Stew Chicken - 7/10 this was hubby's dish and didn't like how there wasn't enough stew added to the dish that's the only thing they wish they added more of. Oxtail and Jerk Chicken wings combo - 7/10 I didn't know it was chicken wings. If I knew that, I would have just ordered a whole plate of oxtails. I did have to add some salt and spice to my dish, but the proteins were falling off the bone, so that was a plus. Both plates came with a salad with pineapples and their own dressing, which I dipped everything in - LOL. If I could, I would buy the whole salad with a side of oxtails. Blueberry matcha lemonade - 10/10 if they had this in a LARGE, I would have bought 2 of them. I regret ordering just one because by the time I got home, it was DONE. Overall: 7/10 Presentation is super cute and the drink was a hitter. But in total our food came out to $78 dollars and a $15 dollar tip because I can respect the cooking. But I think charging for wings in your dishes for that amount is a bit too steep for me. I just know everyone's experience is going to be different, so I hope you get to try it out for yourself.

So I placed a pickup order thru Doordash, and used some credits I had on my account. I ordered for takeout: - Jerk Ribs w/ 3 sides - Sides= Rices & Peas (beans), Coleslaw, Mac 'n Cheese Now, it being Jamaican food, I was expecting something spicy or perhaps exotic flavors/spices. What I got was an order of BBQ spareribs. OMG, those ribs were "fall off the bone" tender. The rice and peas were tasty and moist. The coleslaw and mac 'n cheese were dry. I have ordered BBQ ribs from Everett & Jones, Flints, Famous Daves, and I made my own. These were good BBQ ribs with a mild sauce. Some of the other reviews state that the menu isn't 100% Jamaican food, and they are correct. Maybe it's Jamaican food and American soul food. Then BBQ ribs would be on the menu. If you're looking for Jamaican food, I guess it depends on what you order.

I initially didn't expect much since every Haitian restaurant on the west coast seems to flop pretty bad except for the one in Moreno Valley, CA. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Things to consider about Haitian food. Oxtails and anything jerked (jerk chicken) are NOT typical Haitian dishes. Leave those to the Jamaicans that's their specialty. I would NOT order that at a Haitian restaurant. If you order these we know you don't know anything about that culture. Now that we got this out of way. I've ordered the legume (stewed veg with no meat), fritay griot (fried pork shoulder) akra, fried green plantain, kremas, pikliz to go. Pros: Located in a vibrant part of Oakland this restaurant is very cleaned and spacious with arts displayed throughout showcasing the Haitian culture and spirt. There's even a huge outdoor seating. The service was fast and I am not talking by islands standards. Before i can blink was food was in front of me. To my surprise, I really enjoyed my food and ordered some to go. I thought to myself maybe I was really hungry hence the reason it tasted so good. So I went back a 2nd time the very next day, you could tell the food is made fresh because they don't have the same thing on the menu. Oh boy was I surprised again about how delicious the food was. Subsequently, I am giving this restaurant a 5 Cons: There's only street parkings which can be hard to find and it's not the restaurant's fault. I agree with some of the comments that the greeting might need some improvement. Then again this is a family owned business, where their young son is in charge of greeting & seating folks down. He may not have an inviting smile but he was not rude per se. Overall: I have travelled to over 65 countries there are certain things you can't except from people. Not every business is ran based on American expectations. This is a small family owned business with delicious & authentic Haitian dishes. What people want to know is "does the food taste good?" Yes or no. Also, while I was eating there I saw many Ubereats and/or Doordash couriers coming in and out, that might be an option for those who don't want to dine in. I would absolutely go back whenever I am in the Bay area. Lovely family and I wish them the best. I hope they open a restaurant here in Los Angeles.

The shrimp tasted fresh, and was made with onions and bell peppers that were also fresh. The plantains stole the show! They were fresh and cooked perfectly. Music is being played while you dine and that was also nice. Loved the ginger beer soda! Could be better: There were only 6 shrimp in each entree, the food was luke warm, and more seasoning would really ramp up the flavor of everything. For example we could barely taste the curry flavor and the sauce was thin. The rice and peas needed salt and I'm not a big salt eater. I don't think there was any dressing on the salad, and none was offered. Overall I would give them another try even if only for the patties and ginger beer.

Date: 3/1/2026 Time: 6:15 PM 62° Cool…read more It's Sunday late afternoon. I receive a FB message from my male companion. Date night! Where do I want to go for dinner? It's a spur of a moment thing. There are two restaurants I want to have dinner - Y's Choice or Sweet Fingers. First stop: Y's Choice, which is in Uptown Oakland, the hood I grew up in the 50's (my old stomping ground). They are packed with beaucoup diners. Since we have no reservation, we decide to go out to ESO, destination Sweet Fingers, a restaurant serving Jamaican food. First time at Sweet Fingers and I need time to peruse the menu before deciding what entree seems to appeal to me. I have a choice of a small plate or large plate meal. Oxtail stew is something that I have not eaten in a long, long, long time, as in over 60 years ago. The oxtail stew that I had in the past was prepared with a tomato based sauce and contained carrots, potatoes and celery. However, the Jamaican style oxtail stew is totally different. Tender oxtail infused with seasonings and brown sauce. The sides were rice, vegetables and plantain. Although the rice is on the dry side, the entree is quite delicious. The small plate meal is the perfect amount of food for me. There is no "people" bag to take home with me. LOL. My male companion is surprised that I have eaten all my food. Most of the time when he and I are out on a dinner date, I have leftovers to take home. I usually order an Arnold Palmer as a beverage at any restaurants I have never been to or eaten there. Perusing the cocktail menu I decide to have a piña colada. ("If you like piña colada, and get caught in the rain...", refreshing no matter the season or weather.) My male companion orders the salmon entree and a salad. He does not eat plantain and he agrees the rice is dry. I can only surmise that he quietly enjoyed his dinner. The salad did not have enough salad dressing. I believe the waitress would have accommodated us if we have asked for more salad dressing. Overall I am pleased with my oxtail stew and cocktail. A return visit in the future to try other entrees on the menu is on the horizon. I would not mind having the jerk tofu. Hopefully my date would be willing to do a return visit.

I also ordered the 10 shrimp meal and so I would've originally sat inside but I got my order to go because I had to drop off a friend. Once I got home I realized my order only had 5 shrimps in it. The downside was that there were items my friend wanted to order but we were told that they didn't have those items since they were moving locations. It's a beautiful restaurant but I do wish they had different spice levels listed and gave you enough meat for the price you're paying. As well the cups needed to be clean more properly as shown in the pictures I included.

Jamie W and I decided to give this restaurant a try after having had a delightful dinner at Burdell (review: https://yelp.to/FxhL3CmhOt). This one has a more upscale vibe in a cool historic setting, the Oakland Tribune building, but I have to say the execution was mixed. We started with a couple of their house cocktails. Jamie had the $14 Pierre's Margarita with the potent house tequila, triple sec, agave, and lime, while I ordered the puckery sweet $14 Strawberry Drop made with the house vodka, strawberry purée, lemon, and honey (Photo 8). It was a good start but then a long wait for the food. Inexplicably and without apology, all five dishes arrived all at once. Pretty overwhelming. First of all, we wanted to try the $28.50 Oxtail Rasta Pasta, but the server told us they were out. It was only 5:30PM, so we thought that was weak so early in the evening. As an alternative, we were offered a $35 'turf' version of the Rasta Pasta with slices of a medium-rare Ribeye Steak (Photo 7). The penne with jerk-spiced cream and sweet bell peppers was just too rich a bed for an indulgent piece of slightly undercooked meat. Similar in spirit was the $30 Cajun Crab Pappardelle which mixed a rich Creole cream sauce with cracked crab meat and mirepoix (Photo 5). It was another example of a fundamentally tasty dish overcome by muchness. We had marginally better luck with the three appetizers. The heavily dressed $14 Caesar Salad benefited from big toasted croutons (Photo 10). The $18 'Crack' Wings were pretty tasty with the spices and sweet chili sauce (Photo 6). The $15 Crab Fried Rice would've been just fine without the unnecessary topping of shaved Parmesan cheese (Photo 9). It turned out to be a lot of food for the two of us, and had we known how saucy most of the dishes were, we would've cut out at least one or two of the sides. I think they might benefit from Burdell's more economical approach to their dishes where they focus on a unique flavor to make each one more distinctively memorable. FOOD - 3 stars...basically tasty but with too many excessive touches in the execution...and no oxtails at 5:30PM?
