I've been having a craving for sushi and I'm so glad we stopped into Koji for my fix! We ordered the Koji Maki, the Michigan roll, and the Yaki Soba with beef instead of chicken. The sushi rolls were delicious and I loved the spicy mayo but be aware! It's probably the first I've had that actually has a bit of a spicy kick. The real star of the show for me was the Yaki Soba. The noodles were steaming hot, cooked to perfection with finely diced veggies, and the beef was nicely marinated. The servers were adequate and the prices are reasonable. I have been here almost a dozen times and is my go to place to have sushi here in Northville. This place is kinda small but very cozy. I always order the hot saki which comes in a generous self serve glass. From the appetizers to sushi all food is served fresh (You will no the difference once you eat here) I will now review my favorite rolls from top to bottom: Northville Fire roll: comes out in tin foil and the waiter sets the dish on fire. Everything goes up in flames and it's a really cool spectacle. Waiter then opens up the the tin foil after about 3 minutes comes back and unravels the foil. The taste is very good love the shrimp tempura and cream cheese mix along with the Koji sauces that they sprinkle around the plate. Mountain Roll: This roll comes out deep fried and is a very large roll. Comes with salmon, creme cheese and avocado. Always get this roll when I come in to eat Rainbow roll: all the sushi comes out very fresh so this roll definitely makes my list. This roll has raw tuna, avocado, and yellow tail on top, and tastes very good. There are other rolls but these are my go to rolls I've had every roll on the menu 5/5 place to eat. read more

In all the years that I've lived in Northville and made a trip to downtown Northville for a meal, I've only been to this strip of businesses one other time. Hidden behind the town square (or more accurately, town semi-circle), this restaurant was on the way to Poole's. Oh, well. The burgers will have to wait. Guests were taking advantage of the warm weather and despite being Tuesday, filled the restaurant. Moms and dads, business associates, buddies sitting at the sushi bar, and friends catching up filled the restaurant with happy chatter. I went with my usual sushi order plus vegetable tempura to round out the meal. This appetizer took a while to get to the table but was well worth the wait. A variety of tender and tasty vegetables were lightly coated and fried until they turned crispy and golden. The Spider and Rainbow rolls were beautiful. The former featured both crab salad and soft shell crab, along with asparagus and creamy avocado. A liberal splash of Koji sauce added a sweet/savory flavor. The Rainbow roll was topped with a variety of colorful fish, avocado, and shrimp, complimenting the crab salad. As always, I had to have mackerel and tamago, both of which were well prepared. The mackerel had a fatty texture but did not have the usual distinctive pickled/cured taste. I'll need to add this place to my sushi rotation. Service was responsive and courteous. read more

This is by far the best sushi you will ever have! I'm sorry but I've been to some of "the best" sushi restaurants in New York, Miami and California, and they don't compare! We have been coming here for almost 15 years now and the consistency and service have never changed. The fish is so fresh it literally melts in your mouth. Even the most basic roll, like a California roll, is amazing. Our favorite rolls are shrimp lovers, salsa, rainbow, California, salmon avocado, Michigan, and the salmon nigiri( they literally melt in your mouth). Mrs. Kim, the owner, is so sweet. My kids love her! She is very welcoming and is always helping the servers out. The servers are all wonderful. We have known Jay the longest, and he's just so sweet with our kids and always does such a wonderful job. We honestly feel like family coming here! I can't recommend this place enough. Koji it's located in one of my favorite cities, Northville. It's kind of a small place. You can park on the street and has a parking around the corner. Doesn't have tv nor WiFi but it's no needed because the place is quiet and romantic, perfect for talking. The menu have rolls that can be specials (ingredients and presentation) or common ones. They have rice, sushi, and a complete Japanese food menu. I wish more kind of Japanese beverages because it's only sake. The time of waiting after order was long. And it's a little expensive ($26 ppl) but totally worth it. read more

Gluten Free Review: this is my all-time favorite sushi spot. They do not have a designated gluten free menu, but you can let your server know and they are knowledgeable with what you can order. They also offer Tamari for gluten free guests. In regards to the sushi, it is always fresh. The rice is always warm and the nori is firm but not chewy. I have never ordered a bad piece of sashimi or nigiri from here either. The service is also something to note, you can stay for a long meal if you would like, but they can also get you in and out if needed. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Just walked in and the place was very accommodating to Covid with booths spaced out. Got takeout sushi (California Roll, Cucumber and Avocado roll, and Salmon roll) and it was very quick only about 5 minute wait. Sushi tasted amazing, some of the best I've had. The sushi, octopus, and seaweed salads were above average. The tempura was good. Prices were reasonable based on my experience with similar sushi places. The service was prompt and courteous. They get extra points for offering brown rice as an option with some of the rolls (we didn't try it, but I've never seen this option at any other sushi places). The only issues I had were: 1. The kid's menu only had one item on it--seems like they could easily do better at this 2. the place is completely devoid of any kind of atmosphere. It's a bit cramped, brightly lit, and not really decorated. Well the service was good, it was not very warm; it seemed strictly transactional. Not a huge deal but may be relevant for some. This hidden gem in downtown Northville is a must try. The sushi is very delicious here. One roll I recommend getting is called the Northville fire roll, they wrap the roll in foil and light on fire to cook the spicy crab inside. I like this place. Its very friendly and the sushi is very tasty. They have good deals at lunch which is nice. I stopped in with my usual sushi partner in crime, my mother. I had the chirashi as that is a big thing of mine. Something about a little container filled with a variety of different sashimi on sushi rice makes me happy, I thought 12 bucks was reasonable for what I got. My mom went with a bento box with four pieces of nigiri (the usual suspects), a california roll, assorted tempura and a salad, it was ten bucks. They had a nice little selection of luncheon things for around the 8-11 dollar mark. We also had a tasty phoenix roll which was tempura shrimp roll topped with spicy tuna and sauce. I really wanted to get the black dragon roll with the eel on top instead by my mom was paying so I let her get what I know she likes, besides she's my mom. I thought the miso soup was nice here. The tea was hot and kept filled and fresh as were our water glasses. Service was pleasant, they seemed eager to please. They were not super busy but we were at the tail end of the lunch period. So I recently moved to DC and was disappointed to learn that there are relatively few good sushi options in the area despite the massive population and the proximity to the Atlantic (can you believe it?!). In fact, I spend many sushiless-nights (and some bad sushi-filled nights) lamenting DC's sushi options and feeling nostalgic about the Michigan sushi I had never truly appreciated until I left town. Upon hearing this tragic tail, one of my friends drags me out to Koji for sushi, insisting I won't be let down. Glancing over the sushi menu full of glossy photos, one roll catches our attention: the Northiville Fire Roll. Not only is the roll huge, it is stuffed with seafood goodies and cream cheese. Our eyes widen in anticipation as the waitress bops up to the table, pulls out a lighter, and promptly lights the roll on fire! At this point, we are like kids in a candy store. Purple and orange flames lap up the sides of the foil-wrapped sushi, cooking it ever so slightly and infusing it with a sizzling smokiness. Delicious and exciting (not only for us, but for everyone else in the restaurant who at this point is also watching the flaming sushi light up our little booth). We also order the sushi combo with 7 pieces of nigiri (the fish is extremely fresh and buttery and the cuts are ample--in other words, the nigiri is the bomb...or is that the Northiville roll?!) and a tuna roll (also tasty). All in all the combo is a great deal. Of course we can't stop there, so we throw in a caterpillar roll (also massive): fresh spicy tuna and veg inside covered in more than enough avocado on top (if you are an avocado lover you have to get this one!). On top of the great food, the staff are extremely friendly and all greet you as you walk in and thank you as you walk out. Plus Koji itself is actually kind of small, making it cozy and intimate. Oh and by the way, our total: $40. What a steal! I'm definitely going to hit up this place as much as possible in the next three weeks! read more

Yesterday I came in during my lunch break and ordered a salmon teriyaki bento box for the first time. It came with a miso soup, ginger salad, assorted tempura, 4pc california roll, a bowl of rice, and of course, salmon teriyaki. My stomach was full and very happy.. and it cost me only 9 dollars!! You can't beat that! I know other sushi restaurants have their bento boxes around like 13-14 dollars or so. The service here is great also. Your tea cup and water glass are constantly refilled.
