First time having Kojaks, they catered our work holiday lunch at Sola. It was delicious!! The food arrived hot, the staff helped set up the catering and they provided utensils and plates. I'm glad we decided to support local and order catering from here. The food is delicious, catering also came with gravy as well. I will be back! Thank you so much for your hospitality and taking care of us!

Me watching you

Very good, really good service 10 stars amazing what went well a few things to consider in your review food service ambiance

Avocado BLT with fries
Annalisa P.

Kojak's has been in the area since the 70s. They serve a mix of American and Mediterranean cuisine. I was first introduced to this place after I got hired from my company and got to eat lunch with the other managers and directors. It's nice cause now it's a tradition I do with our new hires after a day of orientation. I've tried a few dishes, but I gravitate toward their avocado BLT on french bread. The bread is nicely toasted and still soft inside. There's plenty of bacon and avocado. Their crinkle fries are good, but it's the seasoning they use that adds a nice touch. You can ask for extra seasoning on the side. Other people have ordered soups, the gyro plate, and something homey like meatloaf. One of my coworkers is vegetarian, so it's nice that they have a falafel sandwich and other options. Many people seem to go here for lunch in between their work day. There's enough tables and chairs and some booth seats. Sometimes they are out of a certain type of soda or the ice machine is broken, but they do keep a bucket of ice or let you pick a canned soda of what's out.

18th street bagel sandwich featuring a Brazos Bagel everything bagel and bacon

Being from the East Coast you get the need for a good bagel sometimes... today was one of those days. My friend and I ordered bagel sandwiches. I'm glad that Brazos bagel has set up shop in Kojak's. Kojak's offers sandwiches with everything from chicken to lox. (Wednesday through Sunday only). Overall the service was okay. Nothing special. The girl was more concerned with her slicing items than originally serving us. I was semi bummed that they only offered the everything or plain as choices for the sandwiches. The overall restaurant is fairly simple. They had live music even on a Sunday morning. Plenty of seating all around.

Just WOW! The freshly baked bagel by Brazos Bagels was the perfect base for the scrumptious vegetable sandwich. Can't remember the exact name of the plate but the sandwich had a delectable pesto sauce and cream cheese paired with fresh and crisp tomato, spinach, purple onion, and avocado. I will be back just for that! Went nicely with a glass of rosé. The sausage, egg, cheese, potato & biscuit gravy bowl was so delicious as well especially if you're craving a hearty southern style breakfast/brunch. The gyro sandwich was great and the fries on the side were seasoned well and crispy, exactly how you'd want fries to be. Casual down home vibes with a Heights flare and very reasonably priced!

The atmosphere is chill I came in around 4 and it wasn't to busy only 3 customers including me

Owner named jack, checked on me and my experience. Food was amazing! Traditional home style! Very Homie and welcoming interior that gave it a diner vibe. Price point for what you are ordering is unbeatable!

Greek Power Bowl

This is a regular on our lunch rotation at work. Food is always fresh and delicious. We have never had a bad meal here in the 15+ years we have eaten here. Mark is always so kind and his staff always go above and beyond.

This is where you go to order your food.  They also do breakfast:  an omelette with feta, tomatoes, and/or spinach could be good.

What to do to fight cabin fever? Write a review or two on Yelp. When I visit a city I've never visited or have only visited a few times, such as H-town, I make sure to find the storied eateries, either chains or stand-alones, Italian food, Greek food, and possibly a type of cuisine the area is famous for, providing it's not spicy. As for filling the hatch with Greek food at a reasonable price, Kojak's fits the bill. It's called Kojak's Fine Foods because they appear to have items sitting on shelves the way they'd be displayed at an ethnic grocery store ... and they also cater. Neither of those two options were relevant to my needs as someone passing through town. However, their sit down cafe' was definitely relevant to me. I got myself a platter and sampled their gyro meat, hummus, and some stuffed grape leaves. It was all very good but I remember that the stuffed grape leaves really stood out. I could have eaten many more of them. At the end, I ate some baklava that was placed in a plastic clam shell. It was also good. They also have soft drinks and bottled drinks you can buy. For a quick meal during the lunch hour, you can go up to the counter and put your food on a tray. The prices were fair and, as others have said, the service was more perfunctory than friendly. I didn't care because it was obviously a busy time and they had to be efficient. I also liked the simple and open set-up of Kojak's eating area. You just help yourself to a four top, plant your food and your behind down, enjoy your meal, and take a respite from the L.A.-like hustle and bustle of H-town inside their air conditioned locale. Something about Kojak's struck me as funny. You are still inside the Inner Loop, although barely, but the area doesn't feel that much different than if it was on or near the Outer Loop. It's near a big freeway interchange on Houston's NW side. Once inside, there were a lot of suburban office park employees lunching and it was a little bit of a time warp, with some - not many - of the guys looking like they might have had a beeper and some of the gals sporting feathered hair! Regardless, the patrons seemed like a friendly, relaxed bunch. And, I couldn't finish a review without mentioning that Kojak's has free parking in front of their store in this strip mall where you might be jockeying for a space among people's trucks, muscle cars, and big SUVs down in the Republic of Texas.

This is the one and only location here and a great stop for all kinds of sandwiches. Their menu includes innovative offerings and iconic flavors, essentially the best of both worlds. If you're craving a classic or simple sandwich, you can get that. However, if you're looking for something special or out of this world, you can also get it. Ike's specializes in sandwiches with their Dutch Crunch bread and Dirty Sauce, both unique in its own way. Whether you're a meat lover, vegetarian, vegan, or on a gluten-free diet, their menu has it all. I personally am not a super fan of the Dutch Crunch bread since I find it a bit too harsh on the palate and somewhat dry, but love the Dirty Sauce (make it extra or on the side). I enjoy subbing the Dutch Crunch with either French or Sourdough. With over 300 unique sandwiches on the menu, there's a sandwich for everyone. My favorites have been the Menage A Trois (halal chicken, honey mustard, BBQ Sauce, real honey, pepper jack, swiss, cheddar), Ike's Reuben (pastrami, mack Sauce, purple slaw, gouda), Joker (all beef meatballs, fried zucchini, Ike's red pesto, ranch), and Grant Pinkerton, a Houston exclusive (Pinkerton Brisket, pastrami, BBQ aioli, provolone). All of my sandwiches have been stuffed and tasty, worth it! However, I find some menu items to be subpar in quality and flavor (chicken strips). The service is typically quick, efficient, and friendly. There are more than a handful of tables inside and some out on the patio. The shared parking lot can get very crowded as it is packed with lots of other businesses.

Here's a polished Google review version that keeps it honest but ends strong:…read more Review: I've been an occasional customer since this place first opened. Honestly, in the beginning it was pretty rough, slow service, incorrect orders, and the sandwiches just weren't as good as what I was used to getting in California. That said, I kept coming back every now and then hoping things would improve, and I'm glad I did. My last few visits have been great. The sandwiches have been fresh and really tasty, and the customer service has been solid. I also spoke with Jose, and he mentioned he's been working hard to turn things around, and it definitely shows. Not sure why they don't have more locations yet, but I hope they expand soon!

I asked our server a couple questions about some of the dishes and was met with Irritation and rudeness and comments like, "of course there is cream in the mashed potatoes, it's mashed potatoes!" I was also told that the green beans were "just fried in a little bit of olive oil", yet they came out on my plate in a brown sauce. Hmm. Our server seemed to be very nice to a couple tables around us but not so much with us. She also appeared to be the only staff person in the restaurant out on the floor. I overheard other people calling her Shandy and it turned out she was the owner! I was appalled! As a female, I'm passionate about supporting other females and women-owned businesses, especially minority women. But I do expect a certain level of professionalism and to be treated with respect. I didn't find that at Shandy's :( My mom provided feedback to the owner after our meal and the owner indicated to my mom that my mom was the only person to ever give her this type of feedback. Now, I thought I could just stop by and grab my order in about five minutes... that was not the case. It took well over 30 minutes. However, I do want to recognize the customer service, especially the gentleman in the red shirt who was running the cash wrap. He was very attentive and made sure orders were moving and getting out to customers. When I followed up on my order (about 20+ minutes in), he let me know there were about 9-10 subs ahead of mine due to a lot of online orders. Once I got my food, I thanked him and let him know next time I'll definitely be ordering online. If you're planning to grab lunch and not dine in, I highly recommend ordering ahead to save time. Now, the food... the sub was 10/10 amazing. I got the Jamaican Red Buffalo Chicken. Highly recommend. The only thing I want to point out is there was a guy working with bell peppers who came to the front line and started handling food for customers. He had on gloves and headphones, but when a customer asked him a question, he used his gloved hand to move his headphones, then went right back to handling food without changing gloves. Other than that, I'll definitely be back!!!!
