Just split a Chicken Parmesan dinner and I wish I had eaten the whole thing myself because it was sooooo good! I actually did get plenty, even with half. They split the order for us and it looked like each of us got a whole serving of the sides. Should have taken a pic of both plates. Chicken was tender, moist and very flavorful and mixed vegetables were well seasoned and wasn't just a pile of mostly squash. Neither of us eat squash but there was lots of green beans, tomatoes, onions and carrots so it was still great. Pasta side dish was good, too. Never would've known this place existed if it wasn't for me driving by. It's been opened for over 13 years! Glad that I decided to try it out. I just had the Spinach egg and feta muffin sandwich but everything about it was delicious. The quality of the English muffin very fluffy and moist the fetta is spread all over and egg perfectly done plus the salsa they give you completes the job. I didn't want to finish it. I went in a Thursday morning in search of breakfast tacos. The tacos were a decent size, and priced well, but they were only good, and not great. Not much to say about the staff. They seemed friendly, but there was not too much dialog exchanged between the staff and myself. Towards the end of my visit, I realized that they had Wi-Fi for their customers, but a password was needed. I'm assuming that the staff gives out the password if asked. 2 stars due to the lack of customer service. So grub hub tells me my food will be delivered by 2:14. I call at 3:00 pm and this young lady answers stating that I won't get my lunch order till 4:18 pm. Because that makes so much sense that I would want to wait an additional 2hrs for a burger. Situated in the Timbergrove area and veiled under the facade of a monotonous strip-center, Kojak's is a quaint little place to catch a meal. Although I suspect the lunch crowd is hectic, the ambiance here is nice, laid-back and quiet if you catch it at the right time. My favorite thing about Kojak's is that I don't have to travel too far to get a gyro now. They're not the best here, but they are hearty and available. Hummus is another precious luxury available at Kojak's too. The little baked goods display will undo any diet pretty quickly; it's just too damn tempting to pass up. The pecan roll is my weakness. This is nice little lunch spot. It will probably rank higher in updates, but I ordered the meatloaf special my first time here and got handed a plateful of blah. I just wasn't into it and can't quite put my finger on what about the meatloaf was so unfavorable to me that day. I was elated to find Kojak's Mediterranean Cafe in my neighborhood, just around the corner on 18th, boasting "Gyros" and "Homemade Breakfast" on their plate glass windows. I headed over one Sunday for breakfast, only to find they were closed. I went the next weekend on Saturday... closed again! On closer inspection of their hours, I found they're only open Monday - Friday. And their hours are spotty: 7:30 - 10:00 AM, then closed for 30 minutes as I guess they switch the kitchen from breakfast to lunch, then 10:30 - 5 for lunch, and 5 - 7:30 for dinner. I finally stopped by for dinner one evening, and had to go for the gyro. The meat was good, however it hadn't been tossed on the griddle before serving, so it was soft, without that crispy char at the edges. The pita was soft and fluffy, however it too was neither baked nor toasted at all, so there wasn't that slightly crispy exterior, and it didn't taste like it was made in-house. The tzatziki, on the other hand, was excellent, tasting as though it were homemade, with visible dill seasoning, which isn't so common. I had to stay at home one morning to wait for a plumber, so I had time to stop by Kojak's for a weekday breakfast. I went for the "Lumberjack" with a side of French toast, to get a good sampling. The two eggs were lightly fried, the bacon crispy and savory, and the golden potatoes were excellent, griddled with onions. The French toast was the star, soft and sweet on the inside, with a slightly bittersweet char at the edges like the best marshmallow from a campfire. I didn't even top the two slices with any syrup; they were already delicious. The whole breakfast left me wishing even more fervently that Kojak's was open on weekends. The layout is such that as you walk in, you'll see tables scattered throughout the ample dining room to your right with news or daytime shows playing on the Telly Savalas (sorry, couldn't resist), a bakery display case and the main counter in front of you, and a small market to your left. Over here there are goods on display like oils and seasonings, and a refrigerated case with po-boys, salads, and the like to take with you. I picked up a sandwich for lunch as I finished breakfast, selecting a turkey po-boy from among the choices of roast beef, chicken salad, tuna, and others. The sandwich was good, if unremarkable, dressed simply, like an Antone's, with turkey, cheese, mayo, and sweet pickle. In the end, I'm glad to have this little cafe just around the corner in "Timberbrook" (as the Kojak's styrofoam cups state), and am eager to try the rest of their offerings - if I can catch them when they're open. read more

Like Teresa I love the great meals, fresh food, and ability to take it home. When I was pregnant I LOVED the salad trio with chicken salad, tuna salad and pasta salad despite what all the books say about feta and deli meat. They have great tea and coffees. The meat empanadas at the counter and the baklava and dessert bars are awesome. My favorite right now is the falafel sub in which you get hummus, tabbouleh, and of course falafel. I took away a star because every time I want to go there their hours have changed. The hours are strange and I never know when they are open. I also find the tables and chairs, though pretty and mismatched, they are at times awkward and uncomfortable. I happened upon Kojak's as a I was taking a new way home from work and decided to just drop in. I sat in the parking lot reading Yelp reviews to determine what to order. I settled on the Parmesan Crusted Chicken which was really good. The chicken was moist, my two side items of mashed potatoes and mac & cheese were warm and they tasted homemade. My only complaint was that there was only a bit of cheese on top of the chicken, and no sauce to speak of, so it seemed a little dry to get through. Having the sides helped. You'll hear no complaints out of me about Kojak's because it was clear and was a great overall experience. First a little bit about the restaurant. You order at the counter or you can serve yourself sandwiches or salads from the cooler to the right of the front door. The dining area is an eclectic mix of mismatched tables and chairs and almost has a bistro like feel to it. It's never crowded and it's a nice place for a quiet evening dinner and conversation. And it's BYOB. Four stars for the atmosphere. Now, for the food. The menu is pretty varied and there are usually dinner specials posted on their website. I've tried a lot of the items , and none of them are spectacular and all are heavy. The parmesan chicken, which is supposedly their most popular menu item, is heavily breaded as is the tilapia. I'm not sure how to make fish feel heavy, but Kojak's does. Same goes for the chicken enchiladas. The rotisserie chicken is usually dry. The sides come overcooked and bland. The pastas are equally poorly done. Greasy sauces and overcooked pasta. Two stars for the food. Final verdict: I really want to like Kojak's. It's the closest restaurant to my house and I want to feel like I have a neighborhood place where I can go to when I don't feel like cooking. Unfortunately, Kojak's isn't that place even though I've given it chance after chance after chance over the past six years. Wow, I never even knew this place existed, even though I've lived only a couple of miles from here for 6+ years now. Of course, it is hidden in a strip mall on a not-so-sterling stretch of 18th St. near Ella. Found it to be quite bustling with a weekday lunchtime crowd. The menu on the wall seemed to indicate that cold sandwiches were already pre-prepared, which caused me to frown, but the hot sandwiches looked good and fresh, and the muffaletta I ordered did not dissapoint (though it was definitely on the greasy side). I've become a regular at this cozy restaurant around the block from my apartment. For two months I met 20 other Census workers here for our morning meetings. They have a separate room in the back that's nothing special but was perfect for our needs and is large enough to accommodate a small party or group gathering. I've tried quite a few items on the menu but their po-boy sandwiches are my favorite (especially the tuna). Most of their food is basic American fare and is hearty, filing, and tasty. It won't blow your mind or anything but it will fill your belly and will do so kindly. Their salads are all homemade daily and are superb! Keep your eyes open for the pasta salad, potato salad and tuna salad. So, I like my tuna, ok? Be sure to leave room for dessert because the triple layer dark and white chocolate mousse cake is the best in town! The service is hit or miss. It really depends on what kind of mood the counter girl is in. Since this place isn't "service centered" I don't think it really matters. I'm not coming here expecting to sit down and eat and have people be nice to me. Typically at any establishment where you order at a counter you are not expecting world class service. Overall, Kojak's is a neighborhood deli with solid food at a reasonable price. It's great for the person who's hungry and not really looking for a "dining experience". Local eater that has a variety of items. What kind of food does Kojak's serve? I have no idea cause there were things all over the place. Some times a good thing, some times a bad thing. I guess you have to know what to get cause normally everything can't be good on a menu when it's so diverse like this. I like the old feel of the place and it's a great place for a quick lunch. You order at the register and they call your number when it is ready. Pretty big place so larger parties can be accommodated. I got the gyro plate is what I got and it was ok. Nothing to crave again. Portion size was fair as well so no complaints there. Will be back to try some other items and hopefully one of those will make me excited. read more

I have been to Kojaks for lunch several times and I am a big fan. The menu changes daily with some repeats. When I first dined here I had the quiche and salad combo and have never looked back. Thankfully my lunch dates get something different so I can try other items! They all love the quiche (We've had a veggie mix, ham and cheese, spinach and mushroom) too and we end up sharing entrees. We've shared the salad trio, gyro, and the Parmesan crusted chicken. All have been great with a couple exceptions: The chicken was a little dry and something was off with the ham and cheese quiche. I would try both again, though! Also its important to note that it is BYOB with a cork fee, however during dinner you get a free app or dessert. If you've read any of my reviews you know I love BYOB. Speaking of dessert I've had chocolate cookies, baklava, and brownies. SO good. One thing I have to mention is there menu is a little confusing the first timers. They have it written on the wall, on a sheet of paper, and they have some at the counter. Its also all of the place from gyros, to meatloaf, to my fav quiches. They also have a little deli corner with an assortment of drinks (decently priced) as well as a dessert case, so it lives up the deli part of the name. I have yet to come here at true dinner time (I've had really late lunches or "linner" with wine, though!). I know that the times we've thought about it they seem to be closing (after 7pm) and I've seen different times listed for their hours. One of these days will we try it at dinner time! read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside and it's not exactly a date place but awesome for a quick bite to eat. Some of the complaints that seem to go with this place is that they have so much variety. I mean, how often are you going to find a place that serves a burger, fries, potato salad, and falafel? That's just a small handful of items on there with many random inclusions. Overall, the food is still pretty good. I won't say it's the greatest I've ever had, but what you are paying, it's a huge step above fast food, it's usually fairly quick in terms of service, and the food is good. I'd recommend the falafel. Again, not the best thing I've ever had, but it's still quite good. For once, I'd recommend going non-fries. Their fries are similar to wedges, thick, but not much to it and also, you won't be getting the super-sized five-hundred fries like McDonalds or Niko Niko's. Regardless, try the potato salad or one of the other side items. There is zero atmosphere here, fair warning. Come here for the food and for a quick lunch with your co-workers or pals. There is a TV that is usually showing sports. Also, a negative is they shut down early and don't even make it past 6:00pm. Check it out. It might not be a win for you, but compared to the other options around in the Heights, this is a win, and the food is good enough for more than one visit. Service is friendly.
