This is a cozy restaurant that shares a space with a vietnamese cafe. There was no wait to order at the kiosks on a Saturday late afternoon, the 5-minute ready time was not bad at all, and service was friendly. Indoor and outdoor seating was limited, and no restrooms were available on site. Parking in the area is a pain too. Got the original bbq short rib koja with a fried egg. I enjoyed the tender flavorful meat sandwiched inside two thick slices of garlic rice which had a softer consistency than what I'm used to at other Koja Kitchen locations. The koja burger was saucy with some gravy on it, and it got messy, easily falling apart. Luckily I don't mind eating with a fork. And my meal was satisfying nonetheless. I got a Too Good To Go meal at Koja Kitchen on Friday night , March 28, 2025. Total cost including tax was a little over $6 which would make this a great deal. Keep reading. In it, there was fried rice, French fries, some spring mix salad, some chicken pieces, and if you look at my photos, there's HALF a shredded Egg Roll. It's not a clean cut half egg roll. It's shredded in half! I took photos of both sides of the half shredded eggroll. The other half was NOT in this container box. I'm like... what??? I don't know why the eggroll wasn't CUT in half. Because seeing a half shredded egg roll to me, looks like someone took a bite of the egg roll, and didn't want the other half. Nasty. This may not be the case, it just looks like that. I rather get the eggroll that's a full eggroll or I rather they didn't include this half eggroll that looks like someone took a bite from it. I'm a germaphobe and I decided to not eat the box because of that half shredded egg roll. I really home that wasn't someone's discarded eggroll and Koja Kitchen decided to place it in my Too Good To Go order. I rather not have that eggroll at all to begin with. read more

I found out of Koja kitchen through their excellent food trucks. I'm a huge fan of the unique rice buns and how it can create a "burger" and yet be its own thing. My short rib with pineapple was juicy but wasn't overly saucy. I've been enjoying this yummy place for quite sometime and I highly recommend both the short rib AND the teriyaki zen. read more

The short rib koja, a unique sandwich made from crispy rice as the buns, was one of the best things I've eaten in some time. Many an expletive of excitement was uttered while munching. The meat was moist, tender and flavorful, topped with an excellent slaw. It's easy to taste the quality of ingredients used and expertise of preparation. I've enjoyed the food at Ko Ja three times in a week with the help from DoorDash. I would always order the Short Rib Bowl with extra meat, add Kim Chee and Furikake white rice. While strolling through the Inner Richmond District of San Francisco on Clement Street...tucked away on 6th Avenue I came upon an awning in Bright Yellow that had "Little Vietnam Cafe" scripted on it...and then if you look up you too will see a sign for "Kojo Kitchen"...with a little bit of searching I discovered that both of these establishments are swished together in one kitchen...(talk about smart business practices). Anyhow I was thinking about ordering some Vietnamese cuisine but I was diverted to the KoJa Kitchen menu...I asked the friendly guy behind the cash register what he liked and he asked me which menu...I replied with KoJa Kitchen...I then asked what dish he would recommend for my first order and he replied try the "Beef Bowl"...I said lets go for it and along with that I ordered their Strawberry Mango Mint Lemonade. When my order arrived (quick I might add) I was pleased with their Beef Bowl which I ordered with Brown Rice but along with that it came with just the right amount of Kim Chee, the Beef was marinated with a sprinkling of Sesame Seed, and finally Salad greens...I would call this dish a well balanced meal!!! The Lemonade was a bit sweet but it went well with my meal. So to sum up my experience with KoJa Kitchen they deserve a 5 Star Rating. I sat inside and ate my meal on their counter facing 6th Avenue. Delicious fusion food! My favorite was the Umami Fries; probably the best fries I've ever had. The Koja was dry and not my cup of tea; the garlic rice was hard to eat. Koja Kitchen is a great stop for some asian fusion snacks! They have things on their menu like rice burgers, bowls, and tacos. My order was the Umami Fries which includes Crisscut waffle fries, miso-coconut braised pork, red sauce, garlic aioli, green onions, masago, fried onions. The flavors were perfect enough to satisfy my comfort food needs. The pork was soft, but did have a couple of fatty piecesin there (not for me, but good if you like that). Ordering is walk up, and they have cups of water available. Napkins and ketchup and a bit in the back near the soda machine. It didn't seem like there was indoor dining but their outdoor seating is nice, more of like a patio situation. Overall, a good place to stop by for a bite if you're craving for some unique food in the area. read more

I've been to this Koja Kitchen as well as their other locations and food truck for awhile now, so this review is long overdue. We always get the kamikaze fries no matter the location. It's the right amount of spice, meat, sauce, and fries. They're always consistent no matter the location so that's a huge plus. This time around, my husband and I both got the ahi tuna bowl along with our fries. We both found the bowl to be delicious and very filling. Since there are not many poké places around the Richmond district, it's nice to have this dish to fulfill that craving. In the past, we've had their kojas and tacos as well. All were really good. This location and its staff are usually really chill. If you get it to -go at an off hour, expect your food to be ready in 5-10 minutes. While I see people of the neighborhood line up to eat here, I just found it to be okay. The kamikaze fries were the best part of the meal, perfectly cut wedge fries and tender savory beef. The tacos though, served on two stale corn tortillas, they just made my Mexican grandmother cry a little bit. There are some combos that will not be better elsewhere--a tangy, maybe wasabi mayo for the chicken taco, delightful. And the pork was tender and tasty. This is a better Koja Kitchen in the San Francisco Richmond region. They have more indoor dining and outdoor setting areas available than some of the other Koja Kitchen in the San Francisco Bay Area. The food tastes better and is fresh at this location. Most of the foods are prepared after they receive the order. They don't have a parking lot at this location, but street parking is available with meters. It may be a little hard to find parking on the weekend or the holiday. read more

Back when I tried KoJa Kitchen's truck for the very first time, I knew almost immediately I'd be giving them five stars. If there was one (albeit minor) complaint to note about this particular location, it'd be with how the majority of seating is technically outside. Granted, they aren't exposed to the elements, thanks to the thick curtain and shades covering the frontage, and they do have overhead heaters to keep people warm, but you can still feel a chill when it's particularly windy and/or cold. All in all, between the quality of the food, price point, and convenient location (parking can be tough, but it beats parking around Spark Social or hunting down their truck somewhere), KoJa Kitchen is a great spot in the area for a quick bite. Not to mention the fact that it's pretty cool to see another food truck open up a successful brick and mortar spot. I'll most definitely be back! read more

I think this is one of those instances of having a pretty solid Food Truck concept that turns into an average Brick and Mortar store. I've seen some reviews that really lay into the quality level here. I will not say that I find it to be flat out bad. It's not. But it's just OK and it's not that inexpensive anymore. KoJa Kitchen has a range of different items like a sandwich between two rice cakes. The fillings are tasty, but the rice cake isn't a game changer. The waffle fries are hit or miss. And yes, they do hit. But the also miss. I actually like the Ahi Salad because I've had it a bunch but haven't had a comp somewhere else. I like it. I see it is also panned in a lot of reviews. I like the space. I LOVE the location on Clement. I used to love the Food Truck. It's at least three stars. It would be 3.5 if I could. read more

We enjoyed the Korean Buffalo Wings (yes, the sauce has some heat!); the loaded Umami Fries, (topped with delicious coconut pulled pork); and the crispy chicken bowl. We have been following them since the food truck days, so when we were back in town and saw that they had a brick and mortar it was a no brainer to decide where to go. What we got, (and what they are known for) is "the original," which is short ribs sandwiched by two rice patty buns. IDK what the sauce is on those short ribs, but you best believe we were licking our fingers. We ordered to go but my kiddo was super hangry so we wound up eating some of it there. Unfortunately, the flavor of the short rib seemed like it was low quality meat that had been over marinated to cover up the off flavors of the underlying meat. The soy garlic had that perfect savory taste. The fries were ok. The only reason I can't give them five stars is because the pork was a little dry. Me: "No, for here..." *Buzzer goes off and we receive our "dine-in" order packed to-go in a brown paper bag* Damn, alright...we get the hint. *Fingers crossed that the food is, as good as, their food truck days* My Short Rib Bowl ($10.45 + $1.25 egg) was awful and this is after having 4 boozy drinks. I wished I had read David G's update before coming here. The brown rice was fine on the top but mushy and wet in other places - did they mix two different batches of rice? The short ribs were thick, large chunks of dry, tough beef that looked and tasted like chuck or top round (beef stew meat). False advertising and deceptive to consumers. The meat was marinated in a mixture of soy and oyster sauce (?) with lots of sugar, bleh. It ended up in the trash. I tried a bite of the Kamikaze Fries ($5.95) which were a soggy mess of criss-cut fries drowned in aioli and sauces. Friend: "You're not eating, you don't like it?" Me: "Naw, I'm getting a crepe across the street." *Looks around and sees two guys at the other table picking at their food* Friend: "Yea, the food here is not good." While enjoying our crepes across the street at Genki, we run into the same two guys who were picking at their food at Koja. Guess we weren't the only ones who didn't like the food... I loved Koja when they started out as a food truck so it's really disheartening to see them turn into a chain that's cutting corners, sacrificing food quality, being deceptive to customers, and not properly training their staff (an elderly person could have slipped on the wet floor and seriously injured themselves). These days, I try to not give businesses less than 3 stars but sometimes it just has to be done when you have such a bad experience. Very interesting concept with the rice buns so of course I had to try a koja. I will say it is really hard to get one good bite of the entire thing just because of how big it is. I ordered the braised pork koja and it was alright but I tried a little bit of the beef koja and it tastes so good!! Also, both fries (kamikaze and umami) were soooo dank. My friend ordered a bowl and I will probably order that next time since I don't know if I'm a big fan of the rice buns. HOWEVER, The service there was really awesome. My friend and I ordered over the phone and picked up, only to realize that we were missing two orders of fries once we got back to the apartment. We called them and they added an extra order of fries for the inconvenience, which was greatly appreciated.
