Kohos is where we often eat when we stay at Maui Beach Hotel. The food has always been tasty and enough variety that we each can find something that that suits our palate. Thus visit the food was still tasty but as I looked across the table in our booth I noticed that the cushion behind my husband was very dirty. I was afraid to look at mine until after I finished eating, I did not lean back. After eating I looked at my back cushion, it was even worse. Lunchtime with family was the occasion and we were seated at a table for 7, which meant an automatic gratuity of 20% was added to our bill. Service was excellent, so we would've given that much anyway. He was friendly and attentive and our food came out in good time. We had fajitas which came out sizzling (always cool), fish and chips (good, but I was hoping for more flavor from the beer batter), Cobb salad (absolutely loaded), Buffalo chicken wings (tasty), saimin (hard to mess up), fries and onion rings. If you are looking for a non touristy joint where the locals go, then come here. They have amazing onion rings and burgers, their taco salad is huge. The stand out is the Ahi Poke Nachos! I've heard their advertisements on KPOA 93.5 FM and decided to give them a try. Glad I did. Their fish & chips was great!. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted and seated in a booth. My server was pleasant and professional. While for the food prep, I noticed two different groups of diners greeting folks seated and enjoying their meals. I wanted to make a reservation for 8 people and since there is no option to do this online I decided to call. The conversation went as folows: Her: *picks up phone*.....hello? Me: ...is this Kohos? Her: yeah Me: Oh um, ok...would I be able to make a reservation for [date]? Her: uhhhhhh yeah? How many in your party? Me: There would be 8 of us. Her: Oh you can just call the day of and we should be able to. At first I thought I dialed the wrong number. The fact that I had to ask her to confirm I called the correct establishment is not a good start- not to mention the unprofessional "greeting". She even stated I could make a reservation then later said to just call the day of. Why would I want to do that instead of confirming a party of 8 ahead of time? This place used to be one of thee most popular restaurants back in the day. I thought I would give it a chance since I have not gone in years. If making a simple reservation is this difficult I do not even want to risk what the service and food is like now. Looking at the other recent reviews, I am not surprised of my experience. Whenever we travel we always try and support local restaurants rather than clatter chains. Would have loved try Koho's but they refused to seat us. We are a party of 4 that showed up at 7pm. There were at least 5-6 empty tables. When we first walked in, the host was friendly when he greeted us, but immediately said he had to go check with his manager about something. When he came back his demeanor had changed. He now said that the manager said they were holding the door. We asked what that meant, and he said they couldn't seat us for 15-20 minutes or maybe longer. We said we wouldn't mind waiting. He then said it will probably be longer of a wait. We got the hint that they were not wanting to seat us because we were not locals and left. Sad because it looked like a fun spot. There's always something new to eat at on Maui, it seems. At least to me anyway. My friend recommended coming here for lunch. And they have alcohol. We made our way back from Makawao and the T Komoda's store and bakery to Queen Kaahumanu Mall in Kahului. I didn't know there was this restaurant here at the mall. Maybe I'm just not on Maui full time to know these things. Lol With that said, we arrived here around 11:30am for lunch. The location was very centrally located and we had to drop off a friend to her car after we carpooled it to Makawao initially. It was suggested to us that we should have lunch here and the first words out of my mouth was "Do they have alcohol?". lol Yes, yes, they do. The entire experience here at Koho restaurant and bar took about 1 hour or so. I think that Koho is the replacement of a restaurant that used to be here pre-Covid 19. The staff here served us well and was friendly. Even though I was a tourist yet a local Oahu boy visiting Maui, it was all the same to me. For lunch though, I ended up having the mushroom burger. You can't really go wrong with a burger, or can you. It came with reguar french fries and I ordered an extra side of onion rings. For the drink, I went with the local brew on tap. It was nice to have alcohol and not be driving since my friend was doing that anyway. The overall experience here at the Koho's Grill & Bar was nice and casual. The ambiance was nice, quiet, and what you'd expect on a chill Saturday on Maui. The restaurant itself was large enough to accommodate maybe 40 to 50 people at one time, but it was spaced out enough so we could enjoy ourselves with the social distancing thing requested. The restaurant itself was clean and, while I didn't notice there is wifi, the company was excellent and the conversation was golden too. The mushroom burger was good and delicious. The server didn't ask how I wanted my burger cooked, but I guess it really doesn't matter for a burger. The french fries were great, crispy brown and definitely provided that snap that only french fries lovers know and love. The onion rings were good and spot on. They also provided dipping sauce for the onion rings. At the time of my experience, the restaurant didn't seem busy, although it can be behind the scenes. This place is definitely some place you'd want to have a meal in before or after flying in or out of Maui. While the restaurant serves typical local comfort food favorites, it's a good place to bring friends and family to hang out and enjoy the new normal post COVID. I myself enjoyed myself as the best I can do. The prices are usually a selling point for me, I was conveiently forgetful, since I was on vacation. Usually that's how it is for everyone eh? Discover the flavors here at Koho's Grill and Bar on your way in or out of Maui. They serve alcohol here. Koho's Grill and Bar is located at the Queen Kaahumanu Mall on Maui. Can't miss it really. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash. It's physical address is 275 W Kaahumanu Avenue, and is near the Starbucks and Jamba Juice entrance of the mall. The mall itself has a generous amount of parking slots here, so best bet would be to come here early to secure your spot and walk on over. If you are a public transportation guy like me, the Maui Bus main terminal is at Queen Kaahumanu center. Find the route that ends at the mall, so you can get here as soon as you can. Of course, there's always Uber and Lyft at your disposal. Might say that this place is a hidden gem, although that's probably the loco moco talking. Check this place out and you'll find something you'd love. After a long day at the beach we decided we wanted burgers and maybe some steaks. Found this place and was like hmm this might be good. Upon arrival we were nervous as it's located in a run down mall. I was like hmm not sure. When we went in there were many empty tables. We stood at the front for about 5 minutes before anyone came to help us grab a seat. We were seated and once the server took our order we never saw her again. Then comes the food that takes forever to come out. It was very bland. No one on my table was happy. The ribs are without bbq sauce and are given a little bowl of really bad store bought bbq sauce that's not good. We never were asked how was our food, if we needed anything else. No one ever came until I asked a passing by worker for more sprite which she was not our server. The when she came back I asked for the check and suddenly a guy came who brought us our check and some toothpicks. I left for the first time on vacation no tip. I felt odd doing so but the place didn't do anything for us. Food was not great abs way over priced. Won't come back. Trust me we are frequent visitors to the island and cross this off the list of places for us to eat at. Super disappointing. Stop serving paying customers food that is obviously bad! If you wouldn't eat dry/burnt food, why would you send it out?! Managers can be loud and/or rude. Bathrooms are dirty and managers don't seem to care. It's too bad because most of their servers are great people. Ingredients included elbow macaroni, kidney beans, onions, carrots and tomatoes. Highly recommended! Koho Dinner - $15.95 This is the same dish as the Koho Plate (chicken breast topped with Koho Sauce which is a mix of sour cream and cheese) but includes either a cup of soup or salad, an additional half piece of chicken, and sautéed veggies but NO macaroni salad. Sausage Kale Soup This came as a starter with my Koho Dinner entree. I hate kale but when it's cooked in a soup, it was actually palatable. First, when we were seated by the manager, she didn't say a word, just grab the menus and motioned for us to follow. Then, after ordering 2 basic taco salads, one salad was satisfactory, but the other salad could barely be eaten due to excessive orange grease on salad. I have to say, Kohos is one of our favorite restaurants here on Maui. The food is seriously fresh and fantastic . We have never had a bad meal here. I can't say enough good things about it. A must when I come back home to Maui. One of the few restaurants that's been around for many years. I remember coming here when I was in high school (not going to mention how many years ago that was). Located right in the front of Kaahumanu Shopping Center by Macy's. Ample mall parking right in the front. I feel as though there is new management and/or new staff working here. This time, the hostess was very helpful and friendly, unlike ever before. Yay! I always get the usual, Mushroom burger with French fries...hold the sprouts. The burger and bread seem homemade, which I appreciate as that makes it more special. The French fries are nice and crispy. The only thing I would probably change is the amount of fries that come with the burger. More would be good. ;) The Koho Plate and Fajitas are my other go-to choices. Fajitas for two on Tuesday nights are definitely worth the amount of food and price. I hope Koho's continue to improve and get better as I would like to see them around for many years to come. read more

It was pretty slow so we were seated promptly. Our server was really nice and helpful. Upon looking at the menu i noticed the change in prices- not a big difference but still noticeable. I went ahead and ordered a steak fajita and mushroom burger. The fajitas now only come with 3 tortillas for $15. They used to come with 5 if I'm not mistaken (I remember taking home my leftovers the last time). Anyway, the mushroom burger was okay, not much taste and a little too dry for my liking. However, the sautéed mushrooms from the pupu menu.... YOU NEED TO TRY IT! Those mushrooms literally put me in a good mood because it was so yummy! Next time I come that'll be the only thing I order. Also wanted to add that every Thursday is margaritaville- $2.95 margaritas, I'd recommend on the rocks rather than blended because it's too watery. I gave 3 stars because if you're going to raise the prices, at least give portions that reflect those prices. Don't charge more for less.
