Kohl's is one of the very few department stores in Alameda, and I'm glad to have it around; it has proven useful a few times over the years when I've needed necessities in a pinch. Recently I've been looking for some clothing staples for work, and haven't really had any luck at other stores. Amidst a day of running errands all over the island, I popped into Kohl's to see what they have to offer. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. Respectable selection of season-appropriate women's clothing, at very reasonable prices. I particularly liked the Vera Wang and Nine West collections. Nice options for office wear, with classic styles, clean lines, attractive solid colors, and not many of the eyesore patterns that inexplicably seem to be so popular on women's clothing. I ended up purchasing a pair of slacks and two nice tops, all for less than $90 damage to my wallet. Kohl's also came through for me not long ago when I needed a pair of nylons, and was caught completely off guard to find Walgreens, where I've purchased nylons my entire adult life, no longer carries them, due to a drastic drop in demand. Um, what? Hose is no longer a thing? What are we wearing under skirts and dresses now, ladies? I must have missed this memo. Anyways, when I found out Walgreens no longer carries it, I headed to Kohl's, and found what I needed. This Kohl's also serves as a return center for Amazon purchases, which is incredibly useful and convenient. You can bring in your Amazon returns even without the original packaging, and they will take care of the rest. Very helpful! It didn't take me long to find what I needed, but finding the check out stand was another thing. They have a self check out stand. Sorry, but I don't like self check outs. I wait in line like other customers. Then the store sure knows how to tempt customers with the aisles filled with plenty of sweets, snacks and knick knacks while waiting in line to pay. I forgot my Kohl's card. The cashier was nice to help me with my using my CA ID. Drawback: I had to enter my SSN on the system in order to make the purchase. The service was not the best, no one assisted in the shopping experience. The selection was very simple because it looked as if everything was on every other CLEARANCE table because of the prices. I had imagined because of Trump freezing the delivery of merchandise to the stores, that there would be sales merchandise galore. Kohl's needs to do better. Went with my dad to try on slip on Skechers shoes. My dad's mobility is to/from the car with a cane, but he isn't strong enough to get a wheelchair or walker in or out of a vehicle, so he doesn't have one. Usually carts are okay for him to maneuver, but after a hospital stay, he is very weak. We asked if they had a little scooter for him to use since they have an ADA placard on their store window. No motorized scooters like target and walmart and every other department store? Ok cool, we can use the ONLY wheelchair they have in store. .... Except it doesn't have FOOTRESTS? They looked at me like I was crazy for asking for footrests. My dad has limited feeling of his feet, and would not be able to raise them off of the ground by himself. If you're going to provide an ADA accessible piece of equipment, make sure it's functional. No footrests = unusable piece of junk. Also zero benches in the store except for the one tiny one in the shoe section, my poor dad almost collapsed on the ONE bench provided OUTSIDE of the store doors. Not ADA accessible despite their little placard on the store window. smdh. PS, what's with not labeling your items with prices? I had to find a sales associate to scan a barcode to check the price. Sadly, my recent online order experience has been so bad, I am compelled to drop my rating for this company. To start with, like many businesses, Kohls assumes everyone has a smart phone. So, when I went to pick up one item that arrived from my online order, I had to wait in line at the store 2X - first to get assistance to pick it up, and then to return it - p.j.s that were entirely synthetic & therefore unwanted as I prefer not to sweat all night in synthetic night clothes. doh How about some cotton night clothes!? Next came the unprecedented experience of having my returned order recharged to my bank account repeatedly. What tha? Of course, the next step was having the other part of the same order "pending" in duplicate (in other words, being charged to my account TWICE even though I have not yet received it). I sent a message to the Kohls folks just now - they need to screen their finance dept. crew for basic math and logic skills. Now realizing they may also need some computer techs to redo their finance software... At this point, it's unlikely that I will shop at Kohls again; I may also pass on picking up the second part of the order mentioned above. Just exhausted from this store's lack of good old customer service and a basic grasp of reality (i.e., it's illegal to charge a customer for an item they have returned and/or charge a customer twice for the same item). I'm not sure why the low reviews at Kohl's. It's a department store. They have a huge variety of basic items that everyone can use. I found some summer tops earlier this year. Returns are easy. Amazon returns can be made here and you will receive a coupon in return to shop at Kohl's. My main focus during this visit was the Sephora store in Kohl's. It's full sized and beautiful! I loved that there was only one or two salespeople here -- I get intimidated in regular Sephora stores when a salesperson who is all glammed up approaches me every 10 feet. Nicely stocked. They appear to utilize both the Sephora membership and Kohl's too. So it's nice to have Sephora in town now (poor Ulta in the same mall). Check it out! read more

I did not come here to shop! I came here to return some clothing that I'd bought and it was easy peasy once I was pointed in the right direction. And it was so easy to get in and out. The first return was some clothes that I'd bought at the store in Vacaville. With my receipt, I returned my clothes. The second return was for some items that I'd bought online. And again, with my receipt, it was great! I don't come here often, but knowing I can make returns makes me smile. read more

My daughter found use of the sephora part of the store. I came in to try and find some stainless steel pans, which they had. They were off brand but they wanted over $100, which I thought was insane. Had an absolutely horrible experience related to the staff and my kohls charge card. The result was I had to cancel the account when my credit score dropped 100 points. I went in to pay my balance and was clear that I was there in person on the last due date to pay in full and avoid any penalties. The cashier charged me the even dollar amount but not the change. I assumed I had paid it in full. I got 2 penalty fees and my credit score dropped by 100 points before I caught it. Point blank kohls does not properly prepare its employees. I got the penalty fees back but very little support. They lost me as a customer for life! read more

The way we do things continue to progress and advance with time. My Walkman, alarm clock, check book, and home telephone is now my iPhone. Blockbuster and dvds is now streaming or torrents. Majority of clothes shopping can be done online now. Kohl's reminds me of an old relic of the department stores days. The days when every mom took their children to department stores like Mervyn's to buy school clothes. Coincidentally or maybe not coincidentally Kohl's acquired Mervyn's after bankruptcy. Walking around Kohl's, this department store is exactly as I remember it. Women's, Men's, Kid's, Home, etc. sections are divided up. Prices are moderate, there's always some sale going on, and Kohl's offers "Kohl's cash" or $10 for every $50 spent to use on future purchases. Smart way to get customers to come back and spend. Overall this department store is for those who don't want to buy online. Not everyone has the need or wants to evolve with how shopping is done, and I'm with them to a certain extent. Some things need to be touched, looked at, and tried on in the dressing room before purchase. So Kohl's is still important. Hopefully departments stores stick around forever. read more

I absolutely don't like the merchandise at Kohl's. I never see anything that I wish to purchase. Kohls, for me, is a combination of Sears, JC Penny's, Mervyn's and a bunch of other stores that carry Walmart clothing & jewelry that I simply would never be seen wearing, gifting or purchasing. The funny thing is that I am not a high end material gurl. But I do like sustainable clothing made of natural fibers. In addition, they carry such "designer" clothing like "JoLo"and I'm just not feeling it. I mean, I don't even like her music or movies.... so, why would her "designer line" appeal to me? The other designer line they carry is "Candies" that was hot back in 1986... However, I DO come here to return all of my Amazon merchandise because I only need to show my scan and I'm out. This Kohl's is a decent size in a convenient location, in Alameda's Southshore Shopping Center. They have decent priced items and a pretty friendly staff. More recently they just started processing Amazon pickups and returns, so you can do returns without needing boxes and they print the return slips for you. My wife and I just started utilizing them and it's super convenient than what we'd do in the past. And when you do a return they give you a discount coupon on Kohl's merchandise. Win-win. read more

I have been going to this Kohl's for a long time. It is a pretty straight forward department store. They generally have a good selection. I shop here about once a month. The rewards are what always brings me back. Between the khol's cash and the 30% off coupons I will continue to be a steady customer. Store has plenty of parking and the lines are never too long. The Black Friday sale is always in my opinion the best of the year. Just went in today and picked up everything I needed and ended up spending $200 less than I expected. Some broken glass observed in the parking lot likely evidence of a recent car break in. Watch out people. Leave nothing in sight and if you've got an SUV or hatchback God speed. They've got it all here. House stuff, vacuums, clothing. No canister vacuums and no pressure cookers. People need those things. Prices seem gimmicky. I don't like that. just want to say that the asian guy (we think he's the manager) was so nice. he was super friendly with everyone - someone in front of us was searching for some shoes and he was really patient. they couldn't find out order immediately and he apologized for the wait even though it really wasn't that long or a problem at all. a nice reminder that there are still good people out there during this time! all the workers were wearing masks and gloves at the customer service area. super clean and there was hand sanitizer all around. read more

This store by far has the rudest service! I live in Oakland so I usually just go to the Kohls at Bayfair. I decided to check this one out as I was already in Alameda. And when I look online they always have a lot of the jewelry that i'm interested available at this location. Where as Kohls in San Leandro has limited supply or I have to have it shipped to the store which is annoying. I did maybe 6 laps around the jewlery department for the lady to be working the day I went to not have said a word to me and give me ugly looks! She asked other people who walked up after me if they needed any assistance. But not me! Now the day I came I was looking bummy. Sweats and a sweater. My hair in a messy bun. My daughter in her stroller. But what? Did i not look like I had money to buy anything or something. I don't know. But it was unpleasant. Even walking through the babies clothing. The man working in the girls department right across from where I was was giving me looks. As If I was a thief or something! I have a Kohl's Credit Card the "Most Valued Customer" Card too! Horrible, horrible service. William Wong, the supervisor, just kept trying to pawn me off on a salesperson. Saying he couldn't correct it. I explained that the order was incorrect ~ it wasn't mailed ~ I came to pick it up and they said there was no such order. Then i called and got put through to William Wong AGAIN , who kept trying to put me through to a salesperson AGAIN. I said I'm no longer buying from Kohls, so he hung up, blaming me for my frustration about their failure to mail order, their failure to get the order correct, and their failure to correct it. Kohl's carries clothing and shoes for men, women and kids, kitchenware, bath, bedding, and housewares. It is a great place for getting your basics, clothing to bedding to housewares. Recently, my sports watch died and saw one online at Kohls.com. Went to the store, but they did not have it in stock. I was told by the jewelry dept. cashier that I could order online and if I was not happy with it, I could return it at the store. I went home and ordered two watches that interested me. I decided to keep the one I liked and return the other one. Had no problems returning it at the store and received my refund. Also, Kohl's frequently have $10 off $30 coupons and coupons that are sent to you if you are on their mailing list. The best thing is that they let you stack coupons so you can get a pretty good savings on your purchase. read more

In the countless times I've been to a Kohl's store I've never had someone blatantly roll their eyes at me as I looked them in the face. I came here shopping with my 70yr old mom and sometimes she has a hard time hearing. That seemed to be "too much" for this young girl to handle and it was obvious. I really don't like shopping for clothing for myself and the reason is, because whether I have money or not when I go shopping I hardly ever find anything like or need. No joke people! Yesterday was my second time going to Kohl's. I was in search of black Dockers khakis for work. When I got there I was amazed to see how wide their selection of Dockers khakis. JCPenney and Macy's have crappy selection of dockers khakis compared to Kohl's. They actually had my size and I was able to find my khakis in no time due to the fact that everything was well organized and labeled. After I found what I needed I took a walk around the store and the men's department had a lot of variety as compared to other department clothing stores that I've been too. Everything is kept clean and well organized. When I got to the counter to pay the clerk asked if I wanted to sign up for Kohl's credit card. I told her no because I know that I'm going to get approved. She said that I would get a 30% discount off my purchase and 15% off if I didn't. As I expected, I didn't get approved but I got 15% off my purchase. I was happy. Kohl's sits now where Mervyn's used to be. It's a Mervyns with a different name haha. I made a purchase and used my 25% off coupon for the two items, then realized immediately after paying that I needed to return one of the items, and purchase the shirt in long sleeve instead, which I did. When Daisy, the clerk/manager took my 25% coupon she said I cannot use it for the replacement shirt, and that it should have been taken from me. She said she would allow it just this one time. Then in her passive aggressive manner, she proceeded to make a storewide voice announcement, that by no means should anyone be allowed to use the Amazon coupon twice, and that they should be sure to take them from all customers! This an obviously public method of accusing me as a customer that I was trying to take advantage of the system. Daisy's need to prove herself right by publicly reprimanding her customer only proves that Kohl's is failing to train their staff in how they treat the customer, but rather enforce a flawed policy over the customer's positive experience! read more

It would have been helpful to have found a service person to ask for direction. The worst part was standing in the check out line for 15 minutes watching two check out associates visiting with their respective customers and not tending to business. I finally gave up waiting when it looked like there was no end in sight. They never looked up to see a number of us impatiently waiting.
