Daiso, Alameda (South Shore Center) I've been here many times, the staff are awesome and friendly. This Daiso location has a lot of stuff but it's very small, it's a very tight squeeze when you're trying to walk past people. The prices for their items has gone up over the years. Like all Daiso locations, there's no return or exchange. All sales are final. Highly recommend to buy school supplies and some Sanrio, Hello Kitty stuff. read more

This would have been my dream store when I was a kid. Everything is cute, and a bit leaning on the feminine side. If you've been to a Daiso store before, this one is pretty typical. If you haven't, it's a store with lots of cute discount items from Asia. There are games, toys, plushies, cute stationary, and lots of snacks. There's also household items that are attractive, but I question their durability. There are lots of gadgets that are sometimes hard to resist. This location is very convenient, near lots of food places and stores. There's plenty of parking, and the area is nice. They have self-checkout, as well as someone at the register. It's a nice place to browse and maybe walk out with a new gadget you didn't know you needed. read more

Happy 4th of July. Quality/Quantity - One of my wife's favorite brands, not mine. Just noticed they raised the price again, now starting at $2.25. Inflation continues. I was hoping to find an ice cube scoop, but failed. Amazon here I come... Atmosphere - Small location. Open 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm; Sundays from 10am to 8pm. Plenty of mall parking, even today on this holiday. Service - Self service. Price - Still affordable. But as mentioned above, prices continue to increase. See menu of pricing. After picking up groceries at Trader Joe's, I stopped by Daiso to take a peek. To my surprise, there were a bunch of Sanrio, Rilakkuma and Tokidoki items. The store was well-stocked with Rilakkuma and Tokidoki magnets, file folders, gift bags, wrapping paper and keychains. I had to buy these items, because the Daiso back home does not carry any of these. I think I spent 45 minutes in the store. With each aisle, there was different and cool merchandise. I bought a bunch of keychains as it makes good souvenirs for my friends. I also found BTS merch to give to my K-pop loving friends. The prices are affordable too. The standard price is $1.75 for most items. read more

Been to this location times. The place is quite small but they carry a lot of items that I love especially Sanrio. this time around we purchased more household items and didn't splurge on "wants". My hubby picked up a few items to give as gifts for his co workers. Now, of course the standard price is $1.75. Still a great value even though they have lots of items there that cost more. They will have different colored sticker label on the item and you'll need to refer to their price guide posted throughout the store. If I'm ever in the area again I'll definitely visit again. When we walked in very well greeted! Being greeted is huge for me. We walked around so much fun things to buy. The only problem is I don't understand the prices. Of course I didn't take a picture of that! I just went the register asking a times! I believe the prices should be in English as well. I would buy a lot more. So after waiting in line asking prices. Daiso is like the Asian version dollar store. I would say it's a bit more higher quality. All items start at $1.50 and up. Pretty similar concept to Target's Playground & Dollar Spot. This store is smaller than most other Daiso stores. The aisles are small and usually cluttered. I can't even look at something for more than two minutes without someone saying excuse me and me having to move for other people to get through and vice versa. Not really able to enjoy my shopping experience here. Every time I drop in, they would have new items. I don't know when they have added this, but they now have Sanrio products. My childhood favorite! So nostalgic. That says so much of my age though.. ha! I had to grab a few items ;) All of my office supplies and snacks are bought here. They have really cute stuff! And they last pretty long too. Daiso is one of those stores you don't really need but want. You'll have the intention of only getting an item or two but will end up getting more than you'll need. read more

I've been coming to this Daiso location on multiple occasions now and have enjoyed my experience here every time. As noted in almost every other review, this is an exceptionally small Daiso location compared to most. However, it is quite impressive how they've managed to pack in nearly everything that could be expected from other Daiso stores in such a limited space. The one downside is that it can get very crowded here, especially on the weekends. Especially when the queue to pay is long it can be a bit of a claustrophobic mess but it really helps that everything in this store is placed in a very neat and ordered fashion. The workers are excellent as well in keeping the store in good shape and in being friendly to customers. read more

Tiny store, so they limit the amount of people that can be inside at once during COVID. It was really stuffy in there and I immediately felt lightheaded, I feel bad for the employees but maybe they don't mind it. Has everything you need, and see in a basic Daiso. Kitchen stuff, clothing, pet supplies, stationery, gardening supplies, bath supplies, arts & crafts, etc. My kitchen is basically full of Daiso bowls, plates, and chopsticks. I adore this store. Daiso is a Japanese brand of chain discount stores. They used to be $1.50 and up but now are $1.75 and up. You can still get a great deal on household items, Japanese/Korean/Asian snacks, and beauty items. Their products are made and distributed from all over, besides what you'd expect (China) at discount stores. I have found items made in Japan and Korea for sale here too. They seem to be all over various cities and states in the USA now. The Alameda location is somewhat small compared to other venues but they still have a good selection of items. Most of it very adorable and kawai. You can sometimes find limited Sanrio brand accessories here (Hello Kitty, etc) and their soft plushies are great to give as gifts. read more

We all have to collectively stop giving money to businesses that fail to train and manage their surly, rude teenaged employees. If these unpleasant staff members can't be trained or managed into being minimally pleasant, the store can't stay in business. My last visit was the last straw after many, many bad experiences. There was a young employee restocking shelves, and her cart was stopped in front of the shelves with the merchandise I was looking for. I stood there for a minute, and she ignored me. I finally said, "excuse me, do you mind if I move this so I can get at these shelves?" She made a sour face and said nothing, staring at the floor. I moved the cart about six inches. She continued to frown and not look at me. I said, "I'm sorry, am I bothering you by shopping?" She said without a hint of self-awareness, "It's ok, the cart's just really big." She continued to stock things on other shelves, and I decided to leave the store without buying anything. Honestly, customers don't need to accept this kind of rudeness and incompetence when there are a dozen other places to buy any of this stuff. No more Daiso for me. read more

I love Daiso! It's like an Asian dollar store except a little more expensive. I came by to check out what they had to offer since every store sells different things. They have some cuter adult face masks than the store in my area so I had to grab them since I didn't get the other designs in the beginning which unfortunately sold out after I returned two days later ): but this makes up for it. The girl that checked me out at the first cashier taking cash gave me a disgusted face the entire time she was checking me out. It made me feel uncomfortable and I thought it was really rude. As someone else mentioned, going into to this store is a lot like a short trip to Japan. I lived in that country for 4 years and I speak from experience. However, this store is much less expensive than most places in Japan. There are many useful things most Americans wouldn't think of, e.g., little knitted sox to put on chair legs to stop marking ones floor & cut down on noise. The ones I bought look like cat legs, yeah. I've bought several sizes of mesh bags with zippers that are handy for carrying things, e.g., laundry coins, any collection of small items. There is never much of a wait to check out and the staff is friendly & helpful, though some are not proficient in English. Be kind. The only thing I continue to look for that is available in Japan but not here are stretchy cloth toilet seat covers - washable of course - and, SO welcome on cold days. There are lots & lots of Japanese snacks and home items, serving ware, etc. As others have mentioned, the prices are hella low too. read more

A nice sized Daiso located at South Shore Center in Alameda. The selections are not bad....bit of out-of-stock items here and there. I was hoping to see more items considering the location but oh well. I was able to get some organizing containers, toys and kitchen items. I liked that I was able to find different Jaapanese condiments and snacks from what I could find in Sacramento. Easy and free parking and there are bunch of other big retailers like Safeway, TJ Maxx, Ross and Kohls so it is nice you can shop all in one here. Next time I am making the extra 20min trip to Daiso in Union City...the biggest one in North America! read more

Daiso is like a Japanese dollar (except at $1.50) store. This location is pretty small--significantly smaller than the ones in Emeryville, SF, Japantown, etc. Supply is hit or miss. The store is pretty cramped, so much that having 2-3 people in the same aisle feels like shopping at the Great Mall on Black Friday. Some favorites: - SNACKS! When I used to work in an office (and especially when I was younger) I would stock up on Asian snacks to bring to work - Notebooks - kitchenware, especially tongs and serving utensils - Sna...oh wait, already mentioned that Okay, so who am I kidding, I come here for the snacks. I absolutely love Daiso, and I was so glad I found one in Alameda. Anytime I see one near me, I love to see what they have since they all seem to have different stock than other stores in the area. It's similar to a higher-quality dollar tree with cute kitchenware, office supplies, clothes, makeup, jewelry and housewares. All my cute office supplies are bought from Daiso, and at this location I even found Rilakkuma notebooks and pens! I was pleasantly surprised, and my coworker and I bought so much stuff lol. I also got cute cat pens and stationary for snail mail. Kitchenware sports a lot of cheap and adorable additions for any home -- I love that there is a cat-theme that is so popular in this store, but they have other animals too. I would buy way too much here if I was in this shopping center more. But I definitely recommend it if you're trying to find some kawaii deals. :) read more

This Daiso location is okay. I prefer the Emeryville location. Alameda's location is really small and cluttered. I can't get a good look at everything because people are constantly bumping and shoving; not to mention, the kids running, screaming, and playing in too small aisles. I'm a spatially aware person and offer individuals space to do their thing and enjoy their breathing room. In Daiso's case, I'm not able to enjoy the space that I offer others because there is none. It affects my shopping experience. Their merchandise is good and they have creative things, but Emeryville takes the trophy. Try them out and see how you feel about it! read more

Daiso Japan is what I call a cutesy-wutesy store with items at $1.50 each, except for the Hi Chew at $1.00. For a few more dollars, one can purchase a cap, hat and/or black T-shirt. This store is small because I had at least four to five customers backing into me while I was trying to manuever through the different aisles to browse and check out the merchandise, products and/or items on the shelves. Then there were the few employees on step stools in the aisles replenishing and/or stocking the shelves with more merchandise. Am I in an obstacle course in this store or what? Besides candy and snacks, they carry knick knacks, kitchen gadgets, sponges, small plastic containers, an assortment of plastic bento lunch boxes, porcelain mugs in various sizes, melamine bowls (for kids), gift bags, birthday cards (limited selection), toothbrushes, beverages, etc. I had to chuckle under my breath when I heard an elderly Chinese woman say in Chinese that most of the stuff is useless (mo yung)...hey that sounds like what my mom would say if she were in this store...lol. Most of the customers were either young people or parents with babies/children. Yep, it was crowded in this store. I tried not spend too much money here and shop wisely. Actually, the total for what I bought was less than $8.50 (tax included) - Teas' Tea Half & Half Green Tea w/Peach, 2 packs of Hi Chew candy (peach and mango flavors), 2 Japanese style soup bowl for children (okay, I'm 61 years old and a big kid at heart) and a porcelain rabbit cover mug (pink). The soup bowls are perfect for some miso soup, a small salad or a serving of an ice cream sundae. The pink mug is ideal for hot tea or I can use it as a door prize for an upcoming Easter Egg Hunt in my office before the end of the month. Hmmm, I believe I better return to Daiso for more of those rabbit mugs...lol. read more

I always shop this store and I was treated very badly today. I got a snack on a shelf with price tags all around $1.75. When I went to check out, the cashier told me it was $2.50. The manager named Anh was very mean and rude, she came to me after two staffs checked on the price tags and said to me "it's $2.75, so you want it or not", I said I will report your store with her attitude and she said "yes, you can". This manager obviously did not check the price and said a random price of $2.75. It's really misleading! I attached a photo here for the proof. read more
