There are so many things I love about shopping in Alameda. It's so convenient with everything being in one place. South Shore got a makeover and new shops! When my sister said she had never heard of or been to a Daiso, we made a beeline for it. Let's just say the experience ended up being so much more magical and kawaii than shopping at a Target. Daiso has a lot of high quality items at a low cost. If you have two dollars, you could leave with something good whether it be something useful for the home, party/decorative supplies, a toy, a snack, or makeup/beauty products. Our baskets kept on growing the longer we spent in the store. We only had a little time to shop but we ended up staying about 45 minutes. It was so much fun to browse the aisles. Things we acquired: 1. Seaweed flavored chips 2. Hi-Chews 3. Fake eyelashes 4. Eyelash glue 5. Tiny dollhouse furniture 6. Paper that soaks up oil from food 7. Food inspired erasers 8. Tupperware 9. Gift bags 10. Stickers They sell the most random things at Daiso from fake grass patches for cats (oh yea we bought that too) to inflatable boobs and a swan neck and head to be faked as a penis? Way smaller than most other Daiso stores with the same run of the mill Daiso products. There's one in Japantown in SF that I'll goto instead of this one because that one is the size of a theater. I'm not going to bash this location since they do seem to carry the essentials and all the non $1.50 items seemed well marked. TL;DR - 4 Stars for overall cleanliness, affordability, and customer service. 3 stars for limited selection/variation in comparison to other larger locations, however, just for this I can't really knock them a star completely! No matter what location you go to, you won't feel too bad about your expenses since the prices are always low! Unless otherwise indicated, items are priced at $1.50! Daiso carries a variety of goods available for purcahse too - from fake eyelashes, various snacks/drinks, household items, school supplies, and what have you...there's a little something for everyone. I've been to my fair share of Daisos and the biggest caveat I have with this location is its size. While there is still the usual items for sale and they do have a good amount of variety with the space they have, this location is definitely smaller and because of this, it feels very limited with the selection and stock they have. This location is located in the South Shore Shopping Center, so if you don't find what you need here there's a Ross, Ulta & a variety of other stores and restaurants within reach. Since it is in a shopping center, parking shouldn't be a problem either since you can park from whatever part and walk from there esp if you're trying to go to other stores in the center. Overall, not a bad option - but I don't think I'll become a frequent visitor and Union City (or if I'm in SF, the SF location) will be my regular locations because I'm all about perusing different items and having a variety of things to choose from! We came here as a side trip from visiting the shore line after dusk. Such a beautiful area here.... but the Daiso was difficult to find. It circles around to the back of the shopping center and you walk down a dimly lit alley to reach Daiso with virtually NO signs directing you there unless you follow the music which takes you to the restaurant directly across from Daiso. There were two doors, but one was sealed off and the other served as the entrance and exit. This is a smaller Daiso, and I have been to a few different locations. Daiso in my mind serves as the cleaner, more orderly and a bit better in quality dollar stores I am used to seeing. They have shopping baskets for where you can put your selections and carry around the store. They offer import candy, treats and snacks and I love browsing that section the most. You can sometimes find things that are not available elsewhere. This visit, I stocked up on japanese pens and magnets by the handful. And their trinkets, pens, and housewares have a wide assortment of useful cute items. They even have a pet section, storage boxes, dinnerware, and laundry section. Daiso comes a long way from the typical dinky small dollar stores. They offer lots of things and are economically priced at 1.50 with a few exceptions of larger items that are priced as marked. Daiso recently moved into a much larger storefront that is steps away from the original location. They sell a variety of Asian made products that are predominately $1.50. Products include housewares, kitchen products, office supplies, clothing items, toys, gardening items, and food items. If you've never been to Daiso, you'll probably find something during your first visit. I'm happy with this larger store which has most items carried at the large SF Japan town location. read more

I got really cute short pink oven mitts from here that I have gotten a lot of compliments for. This is a very small and tiny Daiso in the Alameda South Shore Center here in Alameda California. The selection here is very limited due to the small size of the store. The people who work here are friendly and helpful. No shopping carts at this location, only hand shopping baskets for instore use only. Overall, just a meh 3 stars. I love all Daiso stores. The only way I really distinguish between them is the size. This one falls into the smaller sized Daiso stores that I've been to, but they still have plenty of things and varieties for you to choose from. As compared to other discount stores, they have good quality items for the price. Everything in the store is $1.50, except for the things that are marked otherwise. I love getting little kitchen knick knacks here. And the Japanese snacks and candies are fun too. A great place to take the kids with their allowance. Most things are $1.50, but it is worth splurging and spending $4 for the Fedora hat. So much fun. I avoid the kitchen stuff because they sometimes have warnings posted re: the chemicals in them, but cute gloves and lots of little Japanese erasers in cute shapes are a hit. The $1.50 earphones are surprisingly good. A great place for stocking stuffers or gag gifts (can you say piggy banks with no opening to get your money back out). :) Definitely worth a visit with the kids in tow. Note: No returns or exchanges allowed, so if the sunglasses case doesn't fit your sunglasses at home, you are out $1.50. No harm done. They do take credit cards at the new location. This Daiso store is a smaller version of the store in Japantown but there are many products from kitchen, bath,household when woman's beauty supplies. Imagine a "Dollar Store" but a Japanese version. I was looking for some small bathroom and kitchen gadgets. I was stuck buying a pink toilet bowl brush because they ran out of the blue ones. The products have Japanese writing on them but the rear label usually says Taiwan or China. Daiso also offers these small colorful binder and zipper pockets for organizing papers and stuff in your backbag, bag or briefcase (do people still use though). I have a bright green one in my DaKine backpack. Nothing worse then looking for something in your car at night and everything in your bag accessory is black.... I can't see it The best thing is that everything is either $1.00 or $1.50. If you spend more then $20.00 in this store you have gone absolutely wild. Who can go wrong with that. read more

Let's be real, can you really go wrong at a $1.50 for almost everything in store? I would take Daiso over any dollar store in a heartbeat. Daiso practically has everything I've needed plus a lot more. I've bought a lot of makeup, organizers, supplies for school, headphones & chargers, and other knickknacks. I've bought a lot of mini plastic drawers from them in the past to house my growing makeup collection and also to hold jewlery. They're in really good quality and if you buy a lot in the same size, you can dismantle the tops of the lids and stack them together. I'm also quite pleased with buying supplies for crafts here as well. I've bought tons of origami paper, mini present boxes, scissors, mini staplers, pencils, and pens, and I haven't been disappointed with any of those purchases. Also, their socks ARE SO SOFT & PLUSHY. :3 As for their technology, I really like how they offer Android chargers on sale for cheap (and Iphones, but very rarely), as well as headphones. I will say though, the headphones break easily if not taken care of well. Their make up is pretty hit and miss~ I REALLY LIKE- - their packs of lashes (the bigger pack size which is about $5). Really thin band and not heavy on the eyes as well. -Their eyeliners (The Double Ended One that comes in a Purple Heart Tube which is half liquid, half eye crayon). It also is water and smudgeproof, which is a huge bonus! -They also carry one of my favorite eyebrow pencils there (IN THE PINK TUBE) which I like because it dupes the Anastasia Brow Wiz, which in comparison the Daiso one is about 16x cheaper?. It also has the spoolie on the other side to brush through your brows, which I find really convinient. -The eyelash curlers ain't half bad. I like the gold chrome plating. -Their eyebrow tools/grooming set is pretty good as well. I would STEER CLEAR of -Their eyelash glue, it absolutely BURNS your eyes. -Also BEWARE of another kind of eyebrow pencil that comes in a small silver tube. It also has a spoolie on the other end of the pencil which is convinient but the product is SO HARD and SO DRY it not only is painful using it, the product also doesn't even show up. After being annoyed using it I tried scribbling it on a piece of paper to see if it would show up there. It BARELY LEFT ANYTHING. Customer service is pretty good, if you need help they're extremely friendly and willing to help. However there have been a couple of times in the past where I'm waiting in line and I have to ring the bell multiple times before they come to the front to ring me up. Do bring a reusable bag with you, they'll charge you about an extra 20 cents per bag if you don't. I also have to mention in comparison to the bigger Daiso chains, this particular Daiso won't have as much of a selection in comparison to them. If you could I would head to the bigger chains. But as a whole, I just love Daiso and will be back again in the future! read more

Shore Center, it's inside the outdoor shopping center in the middle of the Trader Joes, Apple Bee's and Starbucks. Had a really hard/confusing time looking for this place since I had the old address, for a second I thought the store was shut down... and idk if I'm the only one but it IRKS the HELL out of me when there's no # to call the store for directions in cases like mine.... Anywhooo, onto the review! I work at Oyster Point in South San Francisco and like to go to the big Daiso store in front of Serramonte Mall after a paydays day of work! I REALLY love all of their useful nick-nacks and adorable decorated appliances for your bathroom and kitchen! I only gave this store 4 stars because of the size... I know it cannot be helped but it's uncomfortable (at least for me) to shop here because the aisles are so small.. everyone has to be excusing each other to go down aisles. Another disadvantage of having a small store is that they don't have a lot of stuff a bigger store would have... From what I've read in the reviews I guess they just recently moved to this particular spot in the center? Might I suggest renting out another bigger spot if the budget allows it, lol. As for the staffing... I usually don't need any help looking for things unless I absolutely NEED them.. and I don't need to be babysat through out my entire shopping experience by one them either, much rather them keep their distance and leave me alone. The cashier's experience was nice and quick though, so that's something. Overall, if I ever have an itch to go to buy something stupidly unnecessarily cute and i'm at home and not at work.. this will be my to-go store! Shoot - I didn't know I needed ninja socks until I saw their endless variety of ninja socks. Just because sometimes your big toe needs a break from the rest of those knuckleheads. What about a Santa beard? Yup, I needed that too! Just in case I ever need a disguise. You can afford to grab a few things you thought you didn't need but really you need it. This is JAPAN HEAVEN!! I love everything at daiso and it's so cheap. I bought so many things and I don't feel guilty about it because it's so useful and did I mention CHEAP? Yup I bought many weird things so I'll name some for you 1) Pedicure Feet Sponge thing - so that it keeps your toes separated when you are doing your pedicure 2) A pink plastic face scrubber so you can use it to clean your face to feel extra CLEAN in getting the dirt and oil off 3) A workout wrist band with a little pocket zipper built-into it so you can put your keys in there while you are jogging 4) A neck massager - OOhh MY it feels good. 5) Lots of notebooks and stationary items 6) Nice gift boxes for presents 7) Hi-CHEWS!!! TONS!! In fact, I love this store so much I will go there now after I finish this review!! This Daiso store is also bigger than the one in Berkeley so it has tons more stuff. This was from my experience at the store last week. I found this store quite odd and at the same time very fascinating with all the misc gadgets as well as their endless amounts of useful everyday needs. It's a bit of fresh air with all the food and clothing places in the shopping mall. A cool Japanese store is what the mall really needed! The customer service was great! The young man was quite friendly and knew the store well. Helped me find pretty much everything I was looking for. Things I bought, double sided tape, beautifully designed ceramic bowls, makeup travel containers, false eyelashes (They have so many styles), and a nice grocery bag. Things to note -Everything there is dollar and a half unless there's an indicated price. -They charge 20 cents for bags which I hear people complain about but with everything incredibly cheap, I think it's totally acceptable. -So many cute merchandise! Things that I had some disapproval with. The store is amazing and the service is great with the employees but a few things that I've noticed and I'm just nitpicking because I used to work retail and this caught my attention. There were many areas that seemed quite empty, maybe they were expecting more merchandise that day? Some shelving lacked items as well as a lot of random baskets strewn across the variation of aisles. I noticed that two of the female employees were idling about, using their phones instead of working. Personally I found this quite unprofessional with my experience in retail. Makes me wonder how they still have that job. They seemed very offputting and I'm extremely glad I found someone else for assistance. Overall, a great place to shop for so many neat things! This is a store that sells things for $1.50 on almost everything, but some of the store sells weird products such as products with no English names and adapters for Japanese products to work in America. The store is big and white colored, and the staff here is pleasant. However, I am disappointed in the return policy, and some of the items break very easily even with gentle care. Gotta love Daiso. Every time I come here, I find another unnecessary cute thing to buy. + THE GOODIES If you can think of any item you need to live, you can probably find it here. Daiso is like an upgrade of the Dollar Store. Everything has a cute little flair to it! I always come here to buy organizers or any kitchen related tools. Surprisingly, their quality isn't bad either! I've bought kitchen knives, oven mitts, and utensils from here and everything is still in top notch quality. - THE ENVIRONMENT As much as I like Daiso, coming to this particular location gives me a headache sometimes. I like that it's located in Alameda, which is much closer to home than the one in Union City. However, the shop is so tiny compared to the mega-Daiso in Union City that you feel a bit claustrophobic in it. The aisles are so narrow and everyone and their mothers shop here so you barely have any moving space. Since the place is so tiny and there's a lot of items they sell here, a lot of their goodies are tossed all around the place and it can get pretty messy when other customers leave random stuff behind. read more

One of the smaller Daiso I've been to in Nor Cal but also the only one in Alameda that sells everything for 1.50!! Well actually.. not EVERYTHING is 1.50.. some of the stuff can go up to 3.00... but that's still not bad!! A tiny Japanese shop that sells things that you will use daily for an affordable price.. they have bowls and utensils for 1.50 as well!! Perfect for college students that don't want to use anything fancy.. but their bowls and utensils are actually really nice.. haha Hmmm.. keep in mind.. bring your own bag because they charge you 22 cents for a bag.. since Alameda is enforcing the eco-bag law. Coming from So-Cal.. not a lot of places enforces that law yet, so everything Im here visiting my friend.. I always dont remember to bring a bag to put stuff in!! As I was walking around lovely Alameda, I came across this store. I had actually heard about this store before on youtube so I was really curious to see what the whole hype was about! You're not pleasantly greeted or much not at all. Everything is clean and well kept. You can literally find so many things here eyelashes, kitchen supplies, pet supplies,food, plates, etc oh, and did I mention that everything is $1.50? It's pretty much the Japanese version of the dollar store. For some reason, you're just tempted to buy everything in this store lol. You do have to bring your own bags or they charge.
