My "super old" $20 bill.
Shannon K.

I was just turned away from the cashier at DollarTree on Blanding because I was paying with a 20 dollar bill that the cashier said was "too old". She said they had a new store policy that they can't take "old twenties" anymore. She then went on to examine my bill and say that it was "old and full of marks". This after I wasted 15 minutes in the store. I asked her why there wasn't a sign about this new policy, and she just shrugged and flippantly told me to take it up with corporate". I asked to speak with a manager, and she said she WAS a manager. I went over to DollarTree on International in Oakland, and they accepted my bill with no problem. The cashier and manager both looked at my bill and said it was fine and that they'd never heard of a DollarTree policy where they stopped accepting older twenty dollar bills.

They charge you a bag fee even when you don't want a bag

They charge you a bag fee even when you don't want a bag. I didn't notice when I got to the car and was too lazy to go back for 10cents Improvement: don't charge ppl a bag fee if they decline a bag.

My daughter loves Stich and princess! My LoL wrapping paper yeah us! 11.17.2022 suppose to b getting Mothers birthday gift bags!

Found everything I wanted and to much more. My 22 year old came up with stocking stuffers! I was spending $10 not $22 ha! I didn't appreciate not getting my receipt! When I pay credit card I like my receipt! I do not appreciate she began ringing up the next customer. Than shocked I needed a receipt! My only complaint! And I choose to be kind and not hold up the line. I also zap my receipt for points to earn money back! Grrrrr! Do better Dollar 25 store!

Quality/Quantity - You get what you pay for, but sometimes you get more!! I shop here for very specific items, but then I sometimes get more with my impulse buying/hoarding... Mainly because the Dollar Trees in Reno are almost always out of stock, so I have to buy everything I am not able to get up there. I can't even tell you what I bought; one of this, two of that, etc.. Plus, I can't even remember why I came here today??? Atmosphere - Great in stock conditions; they were filling the shelves today! Service - Got lucky. One register had a long line when I walked in, but by the time my hands were full (yes I did NOT have a basket or cart) and walked back to the front, there was NO line. Price - $1.25 each + tax, so for me, I spent $20+ today. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1989 with 15,288+ locations. I did not know that Family Dollar "merged" with you in 2021.

Seeds!
Matthew L.

Dollar Tree is a great place for gardening supplies! Dollar Tree has 25 cent packets of vegetable and flower seeds, which all have had a pretty good germination rate. The best selection of seeds are available in the beginning of the year, and the best picks usually get all taken by mid-March. You won't be able to find any rare varieties of flower or veggie seeds; however, there are (surprisingly!) quite a few of heirloom vegetable seeds available such as some of their beans, peas, and lettuces. If you're lucky and come early enough, you can score some pretty nice planters. Dollar Tree also offers $1 bags of soil. Soil quality is not good, as it's very heavy and sandy, so I would SKIP it unless you plant to amend the soil. Other than gardening supplies, Dollar Tree offers quite a wide array of kitchen tools (mostly from the Betty Crocker brand), stationary and gift wrapping items, and general household goods. I love how everything is a $1 or less. Quality is generally pretty good, although some items are better than others.

Cookie tins for Christmas!
Jenn H.

The Dollar Tree is a great place to stop for supplies. Some favorites include - disposable plates, serving platters, etc. (easily transported but low price, so if it breaks or gets lost, NBD) - gift wrap, bags, tissue and more! - tupperware More recently, we found these cute Christmas cookie tins that we used to gift cookies to our friends. Customer service is hit or miss. A few weeks ago, the employees were all super friendly and helpful. Recently, when I went to pick up a few more cookie tins, there was an employee putting away all the Christmas items. While I was looking at the tins, he was taking tins out from in front of me to put away. A bit off putting, but I was able to get what I needed.

East Oakland

They said lines were super long. The cashiers rang up other people items quickly. This made my family thrilled. Also, a 3 bc it is in a scary part of East Oakland. One man just kept walking past the car saying hello. I believe he was unhoused. He didn't asks for any money/food. It was just the way I parked and the car next to me were super close. He had to squeeze between them. It was sort of awkward. ! But he was kind. I would recommend bc my family said they had everything! A heart could desire.

Tons of shoppers and many registers open. Great place to go for Christmas decorations or craft stuff or maybe cleaning supplies. As I checked out the lines were so long they opened yet another register. I really think the people working here are outstanding. Some of the shoppers here are not very refined though. So just realize that and let them do as they like - its not your job to teach the random population manners because their mom didn't or couldn't or wasn't there for them. Have sympathy for these people. I think they might have lives that are so bad they maybe feel scarcity and so focus only on themselves and their family only. When life is good you think about other people and your community - and even more importantly - people outside of your community... and you love and try to give what you can to them. I love shopping at Whole Foods and Trader Joes - the people there are so polite. They cover their sneezes and don't cut people in line - really I'd love to be a part of or maybe at least donate to an organization that teaches manners - if you really think about it - it would buy people a better chance at a better job and get out the cycle of poverty and scarcity so they have enough to feel the option to think of others.

I love and live by the powers that are Grocery Outlet. Is it a random store? Sure, but I can get so…read moremany things from there at a much lower price than at the regular grocery store. I've come here to stock up grains because of the low prices, and the organic section is amazing. Their cheese section is amazing and affordable as well. Over the summer I came here for seeded watermelon and was not disappointed. The cost per pound was cheaper than other retailers. Same with cold brews, coffee creamers, and non-dairy vegan milks. I've gotten Bizzy's Organic Cold Brew for about $3.99, coffee mate creamers at 99 cents, and some pretty good bar products. On my most recent trip - yesterday - I had searched the app the day before to see what the had for hair. A couple of months ago they had this brand called Next Of Us in their bar care section. I smelled everything like it's a candle. Pleased with the scent of the products I quickly looked up reviews and normal price before buying. Guys, I kid you not! The stretch cream I purchased for $4.99 at GO is going for $15.98 at Walmart. Also, the product was a 10/10 for me. I loved it! I was in there recently as bought my friend two jars, but I may go back if they're still there and buy some more just to keep a good stock of it. When I find something I like, I stick with it. Other cool deals I've gotten here are a 6 pack of Siete Kettle cooked chips for $1.99. Another time I got a pack of 12 Muse sodas for only $2.99 and Torani Salted Egg Yolk Syrup for $1.99. Most recently I purchased this brand of vegan hair care products called SashaPure. Each product is sold at $10 each. I've seen online they're on sale at drugstores for $5. Here at GO they're only $2.99. The price for produce is usually pretty good as well. I love that I often find bok choy at this location, along with the large containers of salad. Anyway, I'm a frequent shopper. I love it here. Grocery Outleeeet Bargain Maaarket

The Grocery Outlet started off in San Francisco in 1946, selling discounted food from government…read moresurplus supplies. There are many stores now - probably over 20 of them dotted around the Bay Area alone - and some items are deeply discounted for various reasons. Sometimes it's surplus stock - like from a great winemaker with excess inventory, if you're lucky. Sometimes products are discounted because the packaging has been updated or is even just out of season, like Valentine's-Day-branded chocolate sold in March. Sometimes items are just getting close to their expiration dates [Excuse us - we prefer the term at our peak!]. This Alameda store is one of my faves. It's in third place for having a fun vibe, after the Richmond and Oakland stores. I feel the Alameda peeps are normally fun-loving but don't seem to be bringing their A-game it to this store. I have good luck there sometimes with wind finds - the really good finds can often be still found here even after they've sold out in Oakland and Richmond. Case in point: some excellent wines from Sebastiani winery that are available this week. Hurry up and get some! The Grocery Outlet is becoming increasingly useful for anyone on a budget, and especially anyone who's trying to adopt a more sustainable, plant-based diet. Meat and dairy substitutes can be expensive, so this is one of my main reasons for going. Overall, I think that the Grocery Outlet deserves 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on these factors: * Stocking food that would otherwise be in danger of being tossed out because of packaging changes, overstock, imperfections, or looming expiration dates, is part of a solution to the huge problem of food waste. Around 30% of food is wasted globally, contributing 8% of greenhouse gas emissions. * GO stores have been trending towards stocking more plant-based and organic food. * The Grocery Outlet stocks a good number of brands that rate well, ethically. For example, Miyoko's, Cascadian Farm, Dr. Bronner's soap, Treeline vegan cheese, Beyond Good chocolate, etc.) * The Grocery Outlet brings plant-based food (meat substitutes like Beyond Burgers) within reach for those on a budget who want to live a more sustainable life.
