I can't believe how down hill this place gone to in the last few years. Take for example on our last visit it is now only one sauce tray per two people so share! We got seated in a reasonable time with a large group of regulars. My wife ordered the filet snd shrimp and I went with the filet and lobster. Other at the table ordered various things. We were served salad as e petted then the chef showed up and started cooking. No soup. Good for us the regulars spoke up and they finally brought out the soup. Ordered my filet med-rare but got med. Lobster was over cooked. Same for my wife. Over cooked steak and rubber hard shrimp. Told the wife I wanted to give them another chance. Boy was I wrong. So suggest you avoid this place and try the others I hate being rushed and pushed out the door after a terrible meal read more

Why 3 stars? Because I hate to say it, but it was all just okay. --- --- --- I went to Utah to visit my childhood best friend. We still have plenty in common, but one big difference between us is that I eventually became someone who loves trying new restaurants and new cuisine as often as possible, while he mostly sticks to the 5-6 things he loves and doesn't stray from that. But when we were talking about his favorite restaurants, Kobe was #1 on his list. Sure, it didn't have a crazy high Yelp rating, but my favorite restaurant in Tampa had a similar rating, so I was plenty open minded. Off we went! First up was the salad: I'd give it a solid 4.5-stars. I liked the crunchy stuff on top. Good start! Soup: 3-stars. This didn't do much for me. But hey, I'm not really a soup guy. Fried Rice: my friend talks up how amazing the fried rice here, but I'm thinking that most fried rice is about the same. I take a couple of bites, and I'm not sure how to describe it, but something was just a tick off about it. Not that it was bad, but I thought it was just okay. 3.5-stars in general, but downgrading it to 3 because fried rice from a hibachi place is usually such an easy win. Scallops: My absolute favorite thing at hibachi places are the scallops. They are always awesome. This time? Argh - they were alright. Now I'm getting sad. Same thing: 3.5-stars, but down to 3 because I have never had scallops from a hibachi grill that weren't 5-stars until this visit. Filet: 5-stars for the tenderness, 3-stars for the flavor. It was really lacking salt. But I'd forgotten about the dipping sauce! That will surely make it better, right? Sadness. The dipping sauce was to subtle that it didn't really make any difference. Another 3.5-stars graded to 3 on a curve. This also ended up being the most expensive meal during my stay in Utah. And when I compare it to my trip to Benihana a few months earlier, it was clearly a step below that in just about every way, and I gave Benihana 4-stars. The worst part of the experience was the pressure of my friend grilling me about what I thought the whole time. I'm an honest person, but they were staring through my soul. I ultimately said I'd rate it 4-stars, but as I was writing this review, I just couldn't do it. If I lived in the area, I would view this as a place that I wouldn't really ever need to go back to. And if that's the case, how can I give it 4-stars? If you ever read this review, I'm sorry broski. I still love you. Outstanding Experience from Start to Finish! We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Kobe Teppanyaki! We were celebrating my son's 13th birthday with a group of 12 people, including two young kids, and everything exceeded our expectations. I accidentally made the reservation for the wrong number of people, so we did have to wait a little longer before being seated. That was completely my mistake, and honestly, it wasn't an issue at all since we weren't in a hurry. The wait actually flew by because the kids loved watching the beautiful koi pond. It was spotless, peaceful, and such a nice touch that kept everyone entertained. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Amanda, who immediately made us feel welcome. She had the biggest smile, was incredibly friendly, and treated us like valued guests from the moment we arrived. You could genuinely tell she enjoys what she does, and her positive attitude set the tone for the entire evening. Then our teppanyaki chef, Cornelius, came to our table, and within minutes we knew we were in for a great experience. He was polite, personable, and genuinely hilarious. He kept everyone engaged--from the adults to the kids--with his fun personality and entertaining cooking, but what impressed us even more was just how talented he is as a chef. The food was cooked perfectly. We had promised our son he could finally try Kobe beef for his birthday, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. After dinner he said, "That was the best steak I've ever had in my life... by far!" That pretty much says it all. I ordered the steak and shrimp, and the steak was incredible--it practically melted in my mouth. The shrimp was excellent as well. Every single part of the meal was delicious. The fresh salad, flavorful mushroom soup, perfectly cooked noodles, fried rice, vegetables, shrimp, and, of course, the amazing steak were all outstanding. There wasn't a single thing we didn't enjoy. From the warm hospitality to the entertaining chef and phenomenal food, this was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. First time visitor and last time orderer. This is by far the WORST Sushi restaurant that I've ever been to! Was looking for somewhere new and fun to take a friend to for their upcoming birthday and this place definitely isn't it! I ordered their Crab Rangoons (notice in the description it does not state how many that you will actually receive for $8). I received a total of FOUR completely BURNT and inedible rangoons with no requested sweet and sour sauce. Instead they gave me two small containers of some very bland yellow dipping sauce that I suppose wasn't even necessary because all of the Rangoons were burnt to a crisp and INEDIBLE. I also ordered their Spicy Crabmeat roll that came with eight tiny pieces that certainly didn't live up to their "spicy" description or price! They did come with a small amount of wasabi and nori but something was very old and unfresh with the tiny pieces of nori. I had requested spicy mayo, dipping sauce, soy sauce, etc. I received zero condiments, and zero napkins; just an open pair of chopsticks. Completely overpriced and overcooked bland food here. We were seated by the Sushi chef station and they watched us the whole tome we were there. Going for a late dinner on a Friday night was a total win at Kobe! We were seated after a 5 minute wait, and were given great service by the support staff. We ordered the Ogden roll as a starter, which fantastic and fresh! The dinner presentation was amazing and so fun! Our chef was Will, and he had great tricks and a sense of humor! We honestly kept saying that this was the best quality of food from a Teppanyaki restaurant that we have ever experienced. The salad and sauces for the meat were very fresh! The meat (especially the filet mignon) was so buttery and tender. The shrimp (even the thrown ones) weren't over cooked! We went for a Holiday Party and they easily accommodated the group lovely. The inside is all decorated and has a large fish pond. You can even buy food to feed the fish. The Chef cooking was funny and entertaining. Typical jokes you would see and hear at any Teppanyaki restaurant. The food was good. I wouldn't say great. They use a ton of butter and there was some grease all on my plate from my steak. I will say the steak was cooked correctly. I did enjoy that there was broccoli in the veggies. The four of us went for a birthday dinner. My first time here, I was excited to see the building and watching them cook. We were seated quickly and had the front row seats after requesting it. I decided on the filet with scallops and shrimp, I also opted for the fried rice. Our cook was nice and he was going through all the motions but not really exciting, had some good humor. Scallops were awesome! the shrimp really good and my medium rare steak ended up medium well and a little tough. Butter! Butter! The food here is not good. The salad had dried up cucumber slices that had to have been cut days ago, impossibly unripe cherry tomatoes, and a tasteless pre made dressing. The soup is clearly not from a house made broth/dashi. There was literally a load of French's fried onions in the soup which further made the whole thing taste like a processed mess. The fried shrimp are clearly a frozen pre breaded product that they buy in. I asked for steamed rice with my teppanyaki and they brought it out more than 15 minutes before the guy even came to start cooking. By the time my steak was served, my rice was cold and dry. The cook asked how I wanted my NY strip. I said mid rare. It was served beyond well done. The sole reason I presume anyone is leaving a positive review for this place is that they have some sort of nostalgia for it and/or have entirely non-discerning palates. read more

It was okay, a little too strong & not sweet enough for my liking but my boyfriend really enjoyed it. We shared an order of Gyoza which came out pretty quick but I didn't realize how much food actually comes with your meal. I probably would skip an appetizer next time. I ordered a vegetarian entrée (not necessarily featured on their menu that I saw) & my boyfriend ordered the Filet Mignon and chicken entrée. Each entrée comes with a side salad & a cup of house soup/miso soup. I really enjoyed the dressing on the house salad. My soup was full of tofu, I didn't love that. But the broth was good! My boyfriend loved the house soup with his order. The fried rice was excellent and our friend ordered the noodles & those also looked really good! I just ordered the regular white rice, but I wish I ordered the fried rice! Next time I will do that. It was amazing watching them cook right in front of you & they always make the show really fun! From the point you walk in to the point of leaving you will be in ah with how they have perfected the art of satisfying their customers minds, hearts and tummy's! When you walk in you will be greeted by a very friendly host, please wear your mask as required and he will politely take your temperature. I had a reservation and was seated right away but got to gaze at the beautiful koi pond on the way to the teppanyaki table. You can purchase koi food for 25 cents to feed the fish if you like too. Sadly I did not. I was sat at a table with 2 other couples, wished that had been a bit more chatty and or animated but it's Utah and well sometimes conversation escapes "Utahans". The hostess, waitress brought drinks and took the sushi and menu order and was very attentive throughout the entire experience (keeping drinks/water filled, plates cleared etc.). I started the meal off with a fresh salad with dressing, soup, and I ordered a spider roll. Then we moved onto the meal and experience! A mixed review. We had a surprise birthday party for my husband here with 17 people in attendance. When I made the reservations for 5:45 I explained it was a surprise party & I had requested that people be seated as they arrived and that we would be there at 5:55. They said that would work fine. I received a call at 5:55 asking when we would arrive as some of our people were already there and that we were late. They had another party coming at 7:00 for our table. I indicated we were almost there and again requested the others be seated. When we walked in the maitre d pointed out again that we were late and they had another party at 7:00 for our table. (Why would they book us for only 1.25 hours and then not seat us right away - not good management) I replied that as I explained when I made the reservation this is a surprise party for my husband and they were to have seated everyone prior to our arriving. He just looked at me. Note that all but 3 other people were already there but they were all still waiting to be seated. His welcome approach was very rude. We still waited another 10 minutes to be seated. And then there seemed to be no hurry to take our orders. The food was very good and staff very friendly for the most part. The chefs put on a great show but did not prepare the food at the same time on the 2 grills. Having said that, three of the sushi orders were not served when other food was. They actually canceled one order on their own, one was served after they had finished eating and the other was given to us to go. Not right. It was great to have a table in the back corner for us all to visit with one another. When we were ready to leave I asked one of the wait staff if they could please take a picture of us all. The maitre d had walked into our room a couple minutes prior and was pacing. When he heard we wanted a picture he asked us to move to the garden area to take a picture and that they had another group who has already been waiting 30 minutes. Again rude. I should've written reviews of this restaurant before because I've been here several times since at least 2011. Great place for a large group! We just ate here last night with eight adults, three toddlers and two babies. Everyone loved it! I called ahead a few hours to make a reservation. The employees were friendly and helpful. We bought food here for the kids to feed the fish in their cool indoor pond. They have a bench for children to stand on so they can reach. The chef was hilarious and entertaining. My grandkids are going to be bored at other restaurants now. The food was delicious and meats cooked to order. Several servers kept our drinks filled and used dishes cleared. They were generous to send home extra sauces with leftovers. It was a wonderful experience. Not inexpensive, but totally worth it. read more

This establishment has a traditional Japanese look outside and inside of the building. Once you walk in, you are greeted by a host/hostess and taken to your table. On the way over to the table, you pass the sushi bar and a beautiful arrangement of nature and water. The time and effort spent on this center piece of the restaurant can be truly noted and I would advise to take a picture with it or alone. It is definitely a beautiful background that should be seen. The interior of the place is well-managed. The one thing I enjoy most about the place is the way the tables are sectioned. I sat in the first section of tables and did not have a chance to see the other sections, but what made this experience different than any of my other teppanyaki experiences was not the show, but the way this place was set up. Compared to other teppanyaki places I have seen, this place is not just a continuous line of tables and shows, almost like a cafeteria, but this place has walls to part the noise and other people from you. I believe it increases the teppanyaki experience as when there are no walls, you are able to see someone else's performance before your own from across the room. Throughout the restaurant there are many different decor pieces lining the walls and ceilings to create the authentic atmosphere throughout your dine-in experience. The show is generally about the same as other teppanyaki places. It comes with the amazing skills of the chef along with some silliness and smiles. These chefs are definitely well-trained and know how to entertain a crowd. The servers were polite and attentive. We were given everything we needed and requested in a timely manner. I ordered the filet and scallops option that comes with miso soup, salad, and a rice or fried rice option; I suggest you go for the fried rice, even if it is a little extra. The salad has this delicious asian dressing that is not too creamy or too wet. The miso soup tasted different than what I am used to, but it was definitely delicious. I was given my meat first and I asked for it to be cooked medium. It was cooked to perfection; I normally like my meat cooked almost all the way and my meat was cooked all the way without it ever being dry. At the end of the chef's show, I was given my scallops. These scallops were so soft to the touch. This part of my meal was my favorite. The scallops were not overcooked, they were soft, and was a perfect touch to my meal. I do not travel to the Ogden / South Ogden area very often, however, if you happen to be in the area or if you are looking for a place for a special occasion (as it is pricey, like any other teppanyaki place), I would suggest you visit this place! I hadn't been to Kobe since they relocated down the block and shame on me for putting it off so long. Our visit was great and one that should happen more often. The decor of the new spot is fantastic. A gentle pond running through the entire restaurant adds ambiance and gives a good, natural break between entry way, sushi bar, grills, and banquet style rooms. It adds to the experience and is entertaining for the little ones (okay, I was entertained too) until your table was ready. It's the beginning of prom season and the hostess was only mildly put out that we didn't have reservations. She was very accommodating and squeezed us in with the fluffy dresses and rented tuxes. The teens treated the staff like garbage and I am sure the tipping was well below what was deserved but the waitstaff took it all in stride and provided great service our entire visit. Our chef was fantastic. This isn't the type of place that caters to the littles but he was outstanding with our 5 year old. He let the boy participate in the "show", wear the chef's hat, and do some fun activities while prepping dinner. Definitely a plus in my book. The food was spot on. We tried the salmon, the chicken, the shrimp, and the fillet. All were prepared perfectly and served with the veggies and rice. They created kid- friendly chop sticks that my boy enjoyed as well. Pricing at Kobe is very reasonable and in line with what you pay at all of these grill places. Sushi was less expensive than a traditional sushi bar and our Spider Roll, Unagi, and Hamachi were all very good. We're definitely coming back. read more

Landscaping and surroundings led me to believe the restaurant wasn't open. Friends frequented recently so I go stag. I felt my appearance was received as if they just discovered gum on their shoe. Tanya my waitress attempted to seat me next to a party of nine who were celebrating a toddlers birthday. Being my first time there I selfishly wanted the full experience. Brandy07 the manager acquiesced to my request. Thus I now experienced Cornelius as my personal chef extraordinaire. Who exhibited skills of grace and flare. Flavors of the food were mediocre. Although the salad dressing was divine and the two sauces served were distinctly complementary- a ginger and a mustard. We chose Kobe Teppanyaki for our birthday celebration and while the birthday girl was in the middle of enjoying dessert we were told we need to leave.! It has been years since I last had a meal at a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant so when the opportunity arose for a family dinner, I gladly joined the group. Kobe is rather difficult to find these days, it is tucked between a car wash and a Walgreens drug store on a side road that parallels highway 89. Not easy to get into depending on which direction you are traveling. And the sign at the drive way entrance is difficult to see as it is a small metal sign mounted on a rock. We finally made it to the entrance and were greeted by a friendly hostess as we entered. We were ushered over a bridge spanning a koi filled pond and seated at our counter which surrounded a large stainless steel grill. We make our drink and sushi selections which were promptly served. I thought about having sake, but the selection list was rather confusing and the cold sake selections seemed limited unless one wanted to buy a whole bottle for $50. So I settled for an Asahi beer, which is served with a big mug. As for the sushi, I thought it was quite good and fresh. And the price for the sushi and sashimi was good too. We ordered the teppanyaki dishes, which had the choices of chicken, beef or shrimp. I ordered the shrimp and beef combo. A chef dressed in a Japanese outfit came to the grill and poured some oil on its hot surface, then lit it on fire to start his cooking exhibition. He chopped and diced and flipped and clanged and make all kinds of entertaining comments as he prepared the dinner for all of us, dividing our portions onto our plates as the food was cooked. My first time to this restaurant and was not entirely sure what to expect other than Japanese food. Well I have to say I was very impressed with the atmosphere the show performed by the chef the positive attitude of the staff and most importantly the food.. they take the literal meaning of dinner and a show and provide that for you.
