When they break your stuff, how much will you have to pay to replace it. The worst was the shattered corner of a screen which they wrapped in a blanket when it was moved: $1200 to get a new one. My one bedroom move was quoted around $500 which they went over time and they charged me $800. In the end there was a cracked box spring, broken dresser drawers, broken dining room table (which they tried to fix I will give them that), broken coat rack, broken mirror, and many chipped pieces of furniture. A pot rack was left behind in the building hallway, half of it disappeared. I would be weary reading some of the other good reviews now as they all sound like the same person wrote them. Also be weary of the certificate of insurance they send, they say none of the damages they caused are covered by insurance. The company was very responsive to us when booking the move, and was immediately was less responsive after the broken furniture. Now they completely ignore all correspondence and have done nothing about the broken things. It looks like they have done the same thing to a few other people as well, broken furniture. Both the building that I left from and the one I moved into have said this is least experienced moving company they have seen. I don't write too many reviews nor do I like to write poor reviews. However, this company didn't make any attempt to ameliorate the problem. We are very reasonable people if they would just return our calls or emails. read more

I had an agreed start time of 8:00a.m. But the movers didn't show up until after 10:30a.m. The dispatcher, John, called me and immediately started arguing with me and blaming me for their botched start time. He talked over me and kept telling me I was being disrespectful because I told him we had an agreement. As he talked over me, he kept saying "ma'am" as if that would make it seem more respectful than what he was really being. He then made an odd statement of "all calls are recorded" as if I was being unreasonable. Who does/says that?!? What conversation was he having? He althreatened to cancel (on the day of moving) and refund my money and not show up. Even though it was their mistake on the agreed delivery time, he treated me like I was being difficult and that they were the ones being inconvenienced. Who threatens a customer with a "no show" on the day of the move? And why wouldn't you apologize for your scheduling mistake? This company states that they pride themselves on customer service and being on time yet I did not have that experience. Even though the sales pitch stated they have experience in all Burroughs, the driver didn't know they couldn't take their truck on the FDR and had to take "a local route". This made them even later than the agreed start time. Fail. Not only was I treated poorly, I was overcharged. I paid $588.33 for a four hour move with 20 boxes even though I only had 11 boxes and four pieces of furniture and it took two hours. Even though I had an agreed amount of $330.00, I was not reimbursed for the difference. They then proceeded to try to charge me for a ticket as if it was my fault except when I set up the movers, they said they have three movers onsite so that one stays downstairs with the truck so they don't get tickets. I told them I refused to pay for a ticket that was not my fault and then John says d "ok, fine, give my guys a quarter to pay the parking meter". What?!? The whole move took over five hours when it should have taken two and The movers stole a few of my items as well as put a hole in my couch and when I tried to call back and discuss with the company, they stated too bad as I had told them I was happy with the service. Except, I was surrounded by men and felt pressured to say that as they hadn't finished moving my belongings into my apartment. This company was referred to me by an amazing broker so I am disappointed that I had such a bad experience. I wouldn't use this company as there are better ones out there. This was my second time using the company for a move within NYC. John (the owner) is extremely communicative. Prior to your move date, John reviews with you all of the requirements that will help expedite the moving process. This was key as it helped us fully prepare in advance of our move and left no surprises the day of. And if there are any hiccups or issues on move day (i.e. traffic, not able to find a parking space, etc.), John provides real-time updates to immediately notify you of the issues in an effort to be fully transparent. On both of my moves with the company, unforeseen conditions out of Koala's control extended the move period. They help talk you through how to pack things up and the best way to arrange it to make you move super fast. Both times to didnt have to lift a finger. Everything was secure and packed in the truck and delivered to their locations. They also have the best pricing you can find in the metropolitan area. They respond to emails even after hours when you have questions or concerns. The guys were on time and efficient in their work, in large part of the instructions I received on how to pack. These guys are very friendly and straightforward with the price. Almost every other company, even the big name companies, felt shady when looking for movers, but Koala didn't. I looked at more than 20 companies, looked at fake yelp reviews, got quotes, looked at real yelp reviews, spoke to people on the phone and emailed my inventory everywhere. Also I really hate those stupid forms moving companies make you fill out and then just have you email your inventory anyway. Also, so many moving companies are really aggressive; once they have your number they text and call constantly to book. Koala didn't do that so that was nice. Their quote was the cheapest--$359 for the first 2 hours and $80/hr after that. Well, there was one cheaper craigslist quote but it felt totally creepy and like they would've changed their price when they actually showed up on move day or maybe just tried to murder us. So I went with Koala. Getting a quote was fast over the phone with Katrina, but not too fast--I felt like she actually listened to what I was saying and got all of the details correct. Also this was a New Year's Day move--and the prices weren't jacked up and they were able to totally accommodate our very annoying 4pm move time--thanks building! I talked to a bunch of moving companies like I said. Many of them seemed like dicks. One guy from another company was like "yes, yes we'll be there on the 2nd!" After I asked him if they were available Jan 1st and he didn't even get my address, so I wonder where the hell he was going. Other quotes we got for this same 1 bedroom, 1 block, move were $600-$1100. You can pay Koala via Paypal which is super helpful. They arrived 4:30pm for our 4pm scheduled time, but called to let me know they were in route. They moved our 1 bedroom apartment from ground floor 7th to 1st floor (with elevator) 8th street and it took 4 hours for 2 guys. Nothing is missing and everything arrived in one piece--except for one old chair which we had previously found on the street. The leg broke but it had already broken before the move and we had kind of repaired it--not a big deal. Everything else showed up in great condition. That's including things like: a huge 6ft x 3ft mirror, framed art, a 7ft couch, 2 mattresses, 2 dressers, a 6ft wooden bookcase, a 50 year old table, probably 20 boxes and 20 bags and a bunch of lamps and stools--all showed up in the same condition they went in the truck. They made sure to have us look at the truck at the end of the job to see that nothing was left. They adjusted the invoice for the exact amount of hours they worked and emailed it at the end of the job--no fuss, no muss, no haggling over hours. After reading many reviews I thought I found a great moving company. Unfortunately, I was very wrong. Koala arrived at the moving site unprepared and lacking the correct equipment for a move. The move started at 10 am and did not end until almost 10 pm. The movers were unskilled and unprepared to move a one bedroom unit. They required frequent breaks and at one point disappeared for almost an hour. Towards the middle of the move we put pressure on the team to hurry up so that we were able to move into the other building(our elevator reservation had ended hours earlier). When we finally got to the other unit we realized our boxes were completely destroyed to the point it appeared as if they threw them up against a brick wall. When we started unpacking we realized almost all our items were broken. The bed frame, the dresser, the mirror, tv, etc. In addition, they left expensive items in the hallway and several boxes of valuable items were left behind.
